The wise men showed true wisdom—they followed God’s direction, journeyed far, and worshiped Jesus with their best gifts. They didn’t let Herod’s threats sway them; they listened to God.

Real wisdom is the same today—seeking Jesus, following His guidance, and offering Him our best.

That’s the gospel.

(00:02):
Why were the wise men wise?
Hi, David Hill.
Got a minute?
Matthew chapter 2 tells us aboutwise men who came to see Jesus at his
birth in Bethlehem—men of the Magi.
We associate them with that group.
They came from a place eastof the Euphrates, maybe as
far away, some say, as Persia.
They came as honest seekers.

(00:23):
Faith is that which leads one to seekevidence, substance (Hebrews 11:1): "Faith
is the substance of things hoped for theevidence of things not seen." They were
seeking that which they had known aboutby and through the evidence that God
had given—the star in heaven and otherthings, perhaps, that they'd come across,

(00:45):
that they had studied and understood.
This was the Son of God.
They came to worship Him.
Verse 2 of Matthew chapter 2 tellsus that they came with a purpose:
they came to worship Jesus.
And they said so even to Herod, who was seeking to destroy Him.
That's an amazing thing, isn't it?
To stand before King Herod and say,"We've come to worship the Christ."

(01:09):
They brought the very best when they came.
Verse 11 tells us that they hadopened their treasures to Him.
They brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the King of
Kings and the Lord of Lords.
Not a trade or a barter or a good deal.
They hadn't gone by the temple fleamarket that we read about in John 2:13-22.
No, they brought the very bestbecause He is worthy to be praised.

(01:33):
He's worthy to be given the very best.
And they came to give thevery best to the Christ.
They were wise because they heardGod Through the noise of the
world, they were listening to God.
Though ordered by Herod, theylistened to the angel of God.
And though they had greatresponsibilities at home, they

(01:55):
left what they had to find Jesus.
That's why they were wise.
We need to be that wise.
We need to be honest seekers—thosewho seek, find, and worship Jesus
and offer the very best to Him.
That's the gospel.
Thank you for listeningto One Gospel Minute.
