In this study of 1 Peter 3:1-7 Peter is discussing the way that husbands and wives should treat each others. Our discussion includes a lot of conversation about how single people can learn from these verses how to prepare to be the kind of husband or wife that will foster a strong, healthy marriage. We also discuss how the principals Peter describes apply to all of our relationships. Join us as we discover Godly wisdom for our most intimate relationships.

Questions:

Girls:

vs 1-2 - Peter doesn’t describe the perfect husband. He just got done talking about honoring bad leaders.

Peter says showing your husband respect and living out God’s commands is the same way Jesus changed the world.

Whether you’re a wife now, or you want to be, what are some concerns or challenges you have in showing respect to your husband?

vs 3-6 - There is so much pressure on girls and women to look beautiful. Peter isn’t saying don’t put effort into your looks, he’s saying - make your inward beauty your priority.

What are some ways your character and inward beauty can reflect Jesus?

What benefits are there in letting your life and example be the motivation for your husband/future husband to change rather than your words?

Guys:

Peter starts his words to us with “In the same way”, again pointing to the example of Jesus

vs 7 - Peter describes the relationship we have with our wife/future wife as one of honor. Our culture likes to dehumanize women, making them a prize or a trophy.

What are some examples of this in our culture? How should we treat women differently, with honor?

Peter tells men to treat your wife with understanding. Not to bulldog our way with them.

Again, what are some examples of this? Has this been modeled for you? How can we be intentional to change this in our lives?

Peter describes wives as “equal partners in life”. You have the responsibility to lead, but not to dominate.

How can we lead in ways that make it easy for our wife/future wife to follow?

Finally, Peter tells us that being a jerk will hinder our prayers.
