Vernon Fisher (1943–2023) was a multimedia artist born in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned a BA in English literature from Hardin–Simmons University in 1967 and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1969. He moved back to Texas and taught at Austin College and later at University of North Texas. Best known for his paintings that resemble chalk on a school blackboard, Fisher created visual narratives combining language and images—often with incongruous elements added.

In 2023, Michael Flanagan made Breaking the Code a biographical documentary about Fisher. Today's episode is a brief conversation about that film.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
