drop show, where we break downthe day's biggest moves in
culture and community throughconversation that matters.
(00:23):
All right, once again, peace,family.
I hope that you are doing welland blessed.
Today it's your host, carlGerard, and I appreciate you
locking in with me, whetheryou've been following every
episode or this is your firsttime tuning in.
This is a space about truth, clarity and conversation that
truly matters.
I'm not here to tell you whatto think, folks.
(00:49):
I'm just here to lay it out foryou, all right?
So let's get into this.
If you caught one of my lastepisodes, that I did when we
broke down the Trumpadministration's plan to end TPS
, that's, temporary protectionstatus for over 500,000 migrants
, including tens of thousands ofHaitians who've been legally
living and working right here inthe US.
But now we got a major updateon that case.
(01:11):
A federal judge has justblocked that plan.
That's right.
Haitian migrants took the Trumpadministration to court and the
judge ruled in their favor.
Well, at least for now, allright.
This fight isn't quite over.
The White House has alreadyvowed to appeal the decision and
(01:32):
they're arguing that theexecutive branch has the legal
authority to end temporaryimmigration programs like TPS
whenever it wants.
Now, brothers and sisters, again, this is this, this.
This ain't about the legalarguments or court rulings.
This is about real lives.
So let's talk about Haiti, andwhat folks actually would you
(01:52):
know, would be returning to ifthat protection ended.
According to the United Nations,90 percent of Port-au-Prince,
the capital city of Haiti, isunder gang control.
Now let that sink in for aminute.
This year alone, there havebeen more than 4,000 targeted
killings, and that's a 24%increase from last year and over
(02:13):
1.3 million have been forcedout of their homes.
The violence over there isnonstop and the government is
barely functioning right.
And now the UN is straight upwarning of a possible total
collapse of state presence inHaiti's capital.
And that's how bad it's gotten.
International flights aregrounded, aid is blocked,
streets are ruled by armedgroups, the city is in a
(02:36):
chokehold and, in response, theUN has appointed Carlos Ruiz, a
diplomat from Mexico, as the newspecial representative to Haiti
.
He'll lead the UN's integratedoffice in Haiti or I might be
pronouncing this wrong folks, soplease forgive me the BINUH to
stabilize things.
So that's basically.
The UN operating within Haitiis called the BINUH I might be
(03:00):
pronouncing it wrong B-I-N-U-H.
Binuh.
Don't beat me up if I'm sayingit wrong.
Guys, but let's be honest.
One appointment won't solvewhat's turning into a full-blown
humanitarian disaster.
So, back in the US, the questionis how can we even think about
sending people back into thatkind of chaos?
And we're talking about folkswho've been here for years,
(03:26):
working, building lives, raisingfamilies, and now they're
facing the threat of being sentback into a war zone.
So I'm turning it over all, orturning over this to you all.
I should say Do you believe theTrump administration was right
to try to end the TPS?
Now, I've seen in the comments,a few people were saying
different things.
Well, not particularly here, you know, on YouTube, but like
in other outlets that I'veposted on, where they're saying
(03:47):
well, this is what it is, it'stemporary status, but listen,
think with your heart, not withthe politics.
Do you think that this issomething that should happen?
So again, I'm not here to tellyou how to think.
I'm just here to lay it out foryou.
Do you believe the Trumpadministration was right to NTPS
or does?
Does the federal judge rulingmake it clear that the situation
in Haiti is too dangerous foranyone to be deported.
(04:08):
So let me know in the commentsand this is something big too.
I want to ask you guys, too, ifany of you who are listening or
a TPS recipient or know someonewho is.
I definitely want to hear yourstory and your take on this.
