Carissa Peterson, wife, mother, sister, daughter (my daughter) friend, entrepreneur & business owner.
I could go on and on about my girl as I'm sure most parents could about their kids.
In this episode of Ordinary Courage, I have Carissa back with me and we dive deeper into her story, all the messiness. We talk about the aftereffects of trauma and abuse and learning to live through it all, putting in the hard work and the beautiful part of it when we can go from blaming our abuser and traumatic experiences, to taking full responsibility for our lives and turning our trauma into a victorious life worth living, giving and sharing.

We discuss addiction and recovery and how that looks different for everybody- Carissa describes her recovery journey as the "poo poo platter" coined from Brene Brown's blog.

We get down to some real nitty gritty in this episode and I've never been more proud of my girl for fully showing up in her arena. This is what bravery looks like fully undressed.

PS. Carissa will also be launching her own podcast soon so stay tuned!

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
