Speaker 1 (00:09):
Hey, my name is Teresa Hildebrand and this is

It may feel chaotic at times, but with a little organization,
the right mindset and a ton ofself-love, we can still thrive.
Join me as we talk to otherbusy moms and experts who will

(00:31):
share tips and strategies tohelp you reach your goals.
Hope you enjoy this episode ofOrganized Chaos.
Now on to the show.
Now, before I start somethingnew, I will ask myself this
question, and that is am Iwilling to do this for six
months?
The reason I asked myself thisquestion now is because I was a

(00:51):
constant quitter and I wouldn'tgive things a fighting chance.
I would quit before I wouldreally give it my all.
And sometimes I wouldn't giveit my all.
I would just dip my toe in notdo it for too long and then say
to myself well, that didn't work.
And I got to give my husbandcredit for this one, because he
was the one that posed thisquestion to me, because he was

(01:16):
constantly hearing me complainabout certain things and he
asked me this question.
He said when you do something, give yourself, or give it six
months and then after the sixmonths, if you gave it a shot
and it didn't work, then move onto something else.
So this has a lot to do withbusiness related stuff.

(01:38):
So if you have maybe a businessidea, or if you have an idea
within your business, somethingnew that you want to try, or
even a course you want to take, this is for you and I will give
you some of my tips that'll helpyou stay the course and
actually find out if it's goingto work out and not quit before

(02:01):
a breakthrough.
So one of the most importantthings to set is what's going to
determine whether you shouldcontinue.
So this is going to be whattype of metrics or what are you
going to measure your progresson, so that way you know, when
you get to a certain point, whether this is working for you
or not.
So having that clarity is goingto give you the ability to

(02:24):
decide whether to makeadjustments, a pivot, or to
continue.
I think sometimes we will lookat progress in a very linear way
, where we see it as kind oflike an upward curve, and then
also sometimes we'll just lookat one metric to determine
whether we should keep doingsomething or stop, and it just

(02:48):
doesn't work that way.
First off, success does notlook like an upward curve or
like a straight line up.
It's up and down and alldifferent directions.
So definitely not the way tokind of set yourself up.
But also, you want to have aset of metrics.
You don't want to have just onemetric like, for example, an

(03:09):
income metric.
There could be a lot ofdifferent things that are going
well in that idea or that courseor whatever it is that you're
doing, and you won't see thatbecause you're so focused on
that one metric, which mayimprove later on.
But there's all these otherchanges that are happening, all

(03:32):
the great things that arehappening that you won't
necessarily see because you'reso focused on that one metric.
So my point is to have someclarity at the very beginning
and really determine what it isthat you're going to be looking
at, what set of metrics you'regoing to be looking at that are
going to determine whether ornot you know this is the right

(03:52):
path for you or maybe you needto do something else.
Now my next tip is to commitright.
I mean the title of thispodcast is are you willing to do
this for six months.
So committing to six months ora year, I mean you determine the
timeframe.
I mean one of my mentors, joshCoates, who I've had on the show
before.

(04:13):
He gave himself five years Now.
He went from detailing cars tolife coaching, which is a really
big jump.
But he did.
He gave himself five years, hewent to work, he put in the work
, he learned the concepts oflife coaching and he went from
really struggling to provide forhis family, his four kids to

(04:37):
now having a multimillion dollarbusiness.
Now, of course, the bigger thechange that you want to make,
the longer the timeframe youhave to give yourself.
But that's just a great exampleof really committing to
something and going all in andhaving clarity on exactly what
you want.
Now I'll give you a differentexample, a personal example.

(04:59):
So when I decided I wanted tocreate this podcast, I gave
myself a year.
Now there are things that I canlook at.
It's like a dashboard of howwell the podcast is doing.
So that was one of the thingsthat I wanted to see.
Right, I didn't want to createthis podcast so I could just sit
there and nobody listened to it.
Of course, I wanted it to growand I wanted to increase the

(05:21):
downloads and all of that stuff.
So that's like a dashboard thatI can see physically how well
the podcast is doing.
But I also wanted to see formyself if this was something
that was going to be long-term.
So I had to gauge whether Icould keep this up.
I didn't want this to besomething that was going to take
up too much of my time and Ialso wanted to enjoy it.

(05:45):
I wanted to enjoy recording, Iwanted to, you know, enjoy the
interviews that I was havingwith people.
So really, you know, vettingthe guests that were going to
come on to the show.
The podcast is growing, not inall different areas, but in some
areas it is, and I do enjoy itand I can keep this up because

(06:07):
I've been able to organize mytime so that this is something
that doesn't take up a lot oftime and I just enjoy it overall
.
So I'm going to keep doing it.
So I hope you enjoy theseepisodes and enjoy this podcast
overall, because I really doenjoy it and I didn't realize

(06:27):
that this was going to besomething that I really look
forward to doing every week, butI still gave myself that
timeframe so I can evaluatewhether or not I wanted to
continue.
So you know, it could havelooked a lot different.
It could have been that, youknow, I didn't enjoy it, or I
just I couldn't keep up with it,or it was becoming more of a

(06:49):
hassle, or, you know, I couldn'tfind people to interview, or I
just couldn't come up withtopics.
I mean, it could have looked somuch different, but it didn't.
I mean, it worked out.
And even if it didn't work outand I, you know, moved on to
something else, that would havebeen okay as well.
Okay, so now recap of what wetalked about.
So these two tips for one, haveclarity and determine what

(07:12):
you're going to use to measureyour progress and then, most
importantly, go all in for thetimeframe that you decide on.
Stop dipping your toe in things.
I mean, you won't know whethersomething works out for you if
you don't give it enough time.
All right, so I hope that washelpful and I hope you have an

(07:35):
amazing day and I will see younext week.
