Now on to the show.
Hey friends, welcome back toanother episode of Organized
Chaos.
So today we're going to betalking about how to take action
.
So have you ever had an idea ora goal, maybe even something
(00:52):
that you're super excited about, but you're just not taking
action on it?
So you start to overthink it,you put it off and then you
start to wonder why you can'tget yourself to move forward.
So the thing is is that we allget stuck sometimes, but what
I've learned is that thedifference between staying stuck
and making progress is justthat first step.
(01:14):
So today I'm going to walk youthrough how to get out of your
own way and start taking action, even if it's small, because
that's the key Small steps leadto big progress.
So by the end of this episode,my hope is that you feel ready
to take action on somethinganything at all.
All right, let's dive in.
(01:34):
So first we want to identifywhat's holding you back, because
, I mean, to be honest, it's notusually about not having enough
time or not being ready.
Most of the time it's somethingmuch deeper, and that's what I
do for my clients we dive deepinto some of the situations that
(01:54):
they're going through so thatwe can really pinpoint what's
holding them back.
But this is a really greatexercise for you to do on your
own, so that you can starttaking those small steps, for
you to do on your own, so thatyou can start taking those small
steps.
So maybe for you it's a fear offailure, or feeling like it has
to be perfect before you caneven start, or maybe it's just
feeling overwhelmed by all thesteps involved that frees you up
(02:16):
and then you don't take anysteps at all.
So here's a little selfcheck-in that you can do by
asking yourself these questions.
So here's a little self checkin that you can do by asking
yourself these questions.
Number one what am I reallyafraid of here?
Number two what's the worstthat could happen if I just
tried.
And number three what's onesmall thing I can control right
now?
So you'd be surprised howpowerful it is to face those
(02:41):
thoughts head on, instead ofletting them sit there in the
background messing with yourconfidence.
And I get it.
Failure is scary, but here'swhat I've learned Every time
I've quote unquote failed.
It's taught me something, it'smoved me closer to the next step
.
It's never been wasted, and Iwant you to think about that for
(03:02):
yourself as well.
What if failing is just part ofthe process of getting where
you want to go?
All right, now let's talk aboutstarting small and building
some of that momentum.
So, now that you've gotten alittle bit of clarity from those
questions that you askedyourself, the next step is to
(03:23):
just start.
Here's a trick Don't think big,think small, like ridiculously
small.
So let's say, you want todeclutter your home.
Don't think about reorganizingthe whole house.
You just start with one drawerin your kitchen.
Or if you have, like, a bigproject that you've been putting
off for a long time, don'tthink about completing the whole
(03:47):
thing.
Just commit to working on itfor 10 minutes a day.
So why does this work?
Right, because taking actioncreates momentum and momentum
creates motivation, not theother way around.
So you don't need to wait untilyou feel ready or inspired.
You just need to start withsomething tiny.
(04:10):
A little momentum can buildfrom there.
So let me give you an example.
When I started this podcast, Iwas completely overwhelmed by
everything that went into it theplanning, the recording, the
editing.
I didn't even know where tostart.
So I started a course, and thatwas also overwhelming because
(04:33):
it had 10, 12 modules that I hadto go through.
But this is what I did.
I told myself just start withthat one module, just do 10
minutes, just do 15 minutes.
And those tiny actions led toanother and another.
And here we are at 300 episodeslater.
(04:54):
So here's a reminder for youDon't wait for perfect
conditions.
Just start small and see whereit leads.
The first small step.
(05:23):
So what's next?
It's setting yourself up forsuccess.
This part is all about creatingkind of your environment that
makes it easier for you to takeaction, because sometimes we
just make things harder forourselves.
So here are a few tips.
First, remove distractions.
Put your phone in another room, close all the 20 tabs you have
open in your browser, whateverit takes and then get the tools
(05:48):
ready.
Whether it's setting up yourworkspace or laying out your
workout clothes or prepping yourmaterials, just having
everything ready to go can makeall the difference.
And this is my favorite blockout time on your calendar.
Treat it like an appointmentthat you can miss.
Another big piece of this isaccountability.
Tell someone that you'reworking on this, write it down
(06:08):
so it feels real, and don'tforget to celebrate your
progress along the way, even ifit's just a small step.
Every little step counts.
Now let's talk about somethingthat trips so many of us up
Perfectionism.
So here's the thing you don'tneed to have it all figured out,
you don't need to get it righton the first try.
(06:29):
You just need to take actionand keep moving forward, because
guess what Done is better thanperfect, and every imperfect
action you take is still movingyou closer to your goals.
So, instead of focusing on allthe reasons why it might not
work, focus on this.
What if it does?
That's it.
What if this one smallimperfect action is exactly what
(06:53):
you need to get to where youwant to be?
Let that sink in for a secondand then go, take that step.
All right, friends, let's do alittle quick recap of today's
episode.
So we talked about how to takeaction even when you feel stuck.
So first identify what's reallyholding you back.
Then start small and buildmomentum.
(07:14):
Then you want to set yourselfup for success by creating an
environment that supports youractions, want to set yourself up
for success by creating anenvironment that supports your
actions and finally embraceimperfection, because progress
is better than perfection.
Okay, I know that was short, but I hope that was helpful and
I hope that this gave you someinspiration to stop overthinking
and just get started.
The only way you can get out ofyour own way is to actually
(07:38):
take that first step.
And hey, if you do take actionon something after listening to
this, let me know.
All right, thanks so much fortuning in and I'll see you on
the next episode and until then, keep those small steps going
and trust that you're on theright path.
All right, I hope you have anamazing day and I'll see you
next week.
