Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello, and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, Tammy Hembro
isn't happy about Matt Sakowski's latest claims about their failed marriage,
and Sarah's Day's new fitness challenge feels familiar. But first,
the feud between Jackie Alexander and Gabby Sullivan is intensifying.
(00:27):
Last week, we discussed how Jackie was forced to defend
herself after her former best friend claim she got drunk
and ruined her wedding.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yes, So, on Friday, Gabby Sullivan released an official statement
about the incident on her Instagram story. Interestingly, she didn't
name Jackie by name, but it was clear who she
was referring to. So in the statement, Gabby claims she
never wanted to publicly discuss the incident that took place
at her wedding, but she said she could no longer
remain silent after she was made aware of tiktoks and
(00:57):
comments made about her and her wedding. She wrote, bullying
is not okay. It's twenty twenty five and thriving off
Mean Girl energy and staring up drama and spreading false
narratives is appalling and incredibly damaging behavior, especially from people
who have also experienced the awful impact of online bullying themselves.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Now, Gabby echoed her original allegations that Jackie was extremely
intoxicated at her wedding and started a loud argument with
her at the dinner table. She said she wouldn't stand
for being called a liar when she had a dozen
witnesses to back up her story. She also claimed that
she tried to salvage the friendship because she believed alcohol
played a role in Jackie's behavior, but a month later
(01:36):
things turned toxic and they blocked each other.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Now Amy, it appears the comments Jackie gave to The
Daily Mail, which we covered last week, was the final
straw for Gabby, so to refresh listeners memories. Jackie labeled
Gabby's accusations as false and hurtful, and denied yelling at
Gabby and ruining her wedding. In fact, she said that
they remained friends after the wedding, and Jackie went on
(01:59):
to tell the Day that there was a deeper problem
and level of the story that was missing. So it
turns out As expected, Gabby was also approached by The
Daily Mail for comment, but she said she declined to
give one to avoid further drama, and she said that
she was really disappointed Jackie went to the media.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Would did she go to the media or did she
just respond to the media?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, well she responded to the media, which I think
was actually a very smart move, because whenever media say
oh so and so declined to comment, you instantly think, oh, well,
it's true.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Look.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
I can understand why Gabby didn't want to speak to
the Daily Mail on the record, but sometimes it is
worth taking the phone calls and saying, look, while I
don't want to speak on the record, off the record,
there is no truth to these allegations, and sometimes that
will stop journals from actually running stories.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Or they'll run them by saying an insider, which is
often the person that they've spoken to off the record.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Jackie hit back at Gabby's statement in the form of
a TikTok mime. So she mined to this trending sound.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I am fully a weird of what y'all say about
me number one, and I don't give a fuck.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
And she went on to capture the video. Let them
talk behind your back. They're behind you for a reason.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I love that the TikTok mimes are literally what we
did back in the two thousands on MSN. Anytime you
had a fight with a friend, you would change its
to some kind of passive aggressive quote or some kind
of song lyrics.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, nothing has changed except the medium that we now
share our passive aggressive nature in now. Someone commented underneath
Jackie's video, drop it, we beg and she replied, gonna
have to since my name is being slammed it. Another
person wrote, I love you, but you have been giving
mean girl energy, so either spill your side or drop
it now. Jackie responded, saying, if you think a little
(03:43):
TikTok is giving mean girl, just wait until you hear
while the other person has been doing. Someone else wrote,
or wait until they hear you were too drunk to
talk at your best friend's wedding and ruin it for
her now. Jackie replied, I never said that didn't happen,
but there is a lot of missing piece and that
is not why we're no longer friends now.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Jackie also entered the chat on influencer update AU's Friday
live stream. So she wrote in the comments. Yes, I
was drinking. It was a wedding, she yelled at me.
I defended myself. This is so juicy.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Watch this space because what is missing is the context
of what this wedding day argument was about. And I
don't think it will be too long until we find out.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Day one of Project Comeback is complete.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Sarah's day has unveiled her latest secret project. The self
proclaimed holistic health princess is launching a sixty day fitness
challenge that feels very reminiscent of her old Project Comeback days. Now,
before we get into Sarah's new challenge, Kate, can you
bring listeners up to speed with what Project Comeback was.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I feel like listeners who followed Sarah back in the
day may get a bit of PTSD when they hear
the words Project Comeback.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
If we're channeling Sarah, we should be saying Project Comeback.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, it does feel wrong saying project anyway. So Project
Comeback a recurring series that Sarah shared on her YouTube channel,
and essentially she would document flogging herself in the gym
and restricting her diet under this guise of needing to
do a comeback because she'd put on weight and it
is so crazy to look back at these flogs. So
(05:16):
I watched one from April twenty sixteen, and in it,
Sarah revealed that she put on weight after having her
wisdom teeth out, so she weighed herself on camera and
showed the figure on the screen. She also went on
to list everything that she had eaten and filmed herself
punishing herself in the gym.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Isn't it bizarre that we did not bat an eyelid
back in twenty sixteen watching this type of content.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I know because I remember watching it and being like, oh, yep,
another project come back, Like, let's get some tips and
tricks on how to lose a bit of weight.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Well, let's sit down with like a piece of cake.
Watching this, I would always find myself like gorging on
something sweet watching Sarah's days video. For some reason, I
felt like I had done a workout just watching her.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
It did make you feel hungry. Yeah, give this vlog justice.
I want to throw to what she said in the vlog.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
So, like you guys saw my last vlog, I just
got my wisdom teeth out, and basically it wasn't a
very good time. Over the last three weeks, I've gained
a solid kilos, put on a little bit of fat,
and yeah, I'm not very fit anymore. So I'm sick
of feeling so for myself, sick of being down. So
today we get back on the daily grind after a
(06:25):
week of eating clean and going to the gym again.
If I haven't seen any results, then I'm allowed to
be a little bit down. But for the moment, I
have myself to blame. There's no point in getting upset
about it and feeling ashamed of my body. There's worse
things in life than having a little bit of extra
fat on you.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
There is no way an influence it could post a
monologue to camera like that with a following like Sarah's
Day and not be called up on it. But at
the time, as you said, Amy, no one batter than
I live well.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
She even went on to refer to herself as a blob.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Oh, there was a lot of negative speak going on
and it was really difficult to listen to.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Now.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Seven months later, Sarah did another project, Come Back, after
she returned from a holiday to Queensland, and one of
the scenes that made me feel ultra uncomfortable was Sarah
doing this body check to the camera to show that
she had put on weight, and I just couldn't believe
it because she was so toned and there was no
way that she needed to lose weight, like this shot
(07:22):
was a shot that you would see on a fitness pinterest,
like she was ripped her abs for popping. But this
apparently was deemed not good enough.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
And it's important to point out that Sarah was not
the only fitness influencer posting this type of content. Unfortunately,
this really was the norm.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, it was, and this is probably why it didn't
stand out at the time, and when we're looking at
it from a twenty twenty five lens, it's just so jarring.
Now after documenting what she had eaten and what she
did in the gym to lose weight, she then said
this to the camera.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
But day one of Project Comeback is complete. Definitely stay
tuned because they'll be doing it at least three blogs
of Project Comeback, and every single blog will be showing
different tips of how it lean and shredded again because
I do have a lot of events coming up where
I need to look a certain way and be lean again,
and I'm still feeling quite bloated and just not as
lean and tone as I was a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Sarah always used the term shredded. In fact, it was
actually in the title of her first e book called
sweatd to shred it, you don't really hear it anymore.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I really think the most contentious project come back she did, okay,
was the one six weeks after she gave birth to Fox.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Yeah, and arguably the most damaging because it was aimed
at postpartum women. And when Sarah released her promo last
week for her new fitness challenge, I couldn't help but
feel like I'd been catapulted back to the early twenty ten.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
So.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
The promo was shot by Sarah's husband, Kurt Tills, and
in the video, Sarah stretches on a sand dune wearing
a sports bra and bike shorts, and the video deliberately
zooms up on her very toned body and her abs
as she gazes off in the distance. Then take appears
on the screen that reads sixty days, sixty Workouts, five Rules.
(09:05):
You won't just move different, You'll feel different, and Sarah
captioned the video the five sixty Challenge coming soon. Sixty
days sixty Workouts, five Rules, Become a Better You, a
challenge designed for busy women juggling at all who can't
pause their life but need to fill their own cup.
Tag your five to sixty training partner for accountability now.
(09:26):
This video went absolutely nuts on Instagram. At the time
of recording, it has had over a million views, twenty
six thousand likes, one point one thousand comments, and one
point three thousand send on. So a lot of people
were tagging their five sixty training partner.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
The strangest thing about this is though there's no real
call to action, like there's no link to follow. I
saw a lot of people commenting, how do I do this?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
And is this going to cost money? The answer is yes,
of course it's going to cost money. Now, Sarah was
really trying to pump up her followers. She shared the
real her Instagram story and wrote, I'm so excited to
start this challenge with you. I'm interested to see if
she will do it for the sixty days because I've noticed,
as being a longtime follower of hers, often she'll do
it for the first couple of days and then get
(10:12):
too busy.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Surely she will. I mean, she needs this to be
quite a big money earner for her, especially because of
that failed perfume deal she has.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yeah, I was thinking the timing was pretty interesting because
she dropped that she was creating this secret project off
the back of freshly being dumped by Who Is Elijah
from that perfume collaboration. So I kind of got the
vibe that it was a bit of a cash grab.
Maybe they were banking on getting this money from Who
Was Elijah and they need to do something else, And
(10:41):
I think it's going to be extremely lucrative for her.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Well, it makes a lot more sense for her to
release a fitness program. That's what she is known for.
She's hardly known for her scent, is she? But in
saying that, I think she's moved away from being this
fitness influence, so like she's more in the mummy blogger space.
And I thought it was also strange considering that only
a couple of months ago, she released her pregnancy and
postpartum workout guides that were supposedly challenging bounce back culture.
(11:09):
So the promotion she shared back in May was in
stark contrast to this five sixty challenge. So she shot
a reel where she showed realistic vision of what her
stomach looked like in the early days of her postpartum journey.
She pushed it around and showed it from different angles.
It was very raw and real, and while vision of
her exercising where her kids flashed across the screen, text
(11:32):
appeared on the reel that said she didn't bounce back.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
She moved forward. She created, grew and birth, She evolved
and matured. She became strong. She refined her past perceptions
of health and beauty. She is resilient, She is confident
and joyful, and at that time she captured the video,
if you knew me then, you don't know me now,
particularly since having my second son, I have evolved, grown, learned,
and developed more than I had ever anticipated. My perception
(11:58):
of success and fulfillment are complempletely different than that of
my twenty five year old girl I once was growing.
My three babies are by far three of my greatest
achievements and truly transformed the way I see, speak, and
treat my body to all my mama bears. Juggling one
hundred different jobs in a day, wearing multiple hats, and
carrying the never ending mental load, You're incredible now this
(12:19):
real again also went off, even though it was completely
different to the Challenge one. It got three point six
million views.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Despite doing so well on social media, I wonder if
this didn't perform very well for her sales wise, because
it seems like a pretty quick turnaround to be releasing
another guide. Maybe Sarah doesn't actually have as many postpartum
women following her. I mean, this guide seems to be
aimed at anybody and everybody who is wanting to maybe
(12:46):
start a new fitness regime. It's interesting you say that,
because initially, when she was dropping clues about this secret project,
it seemed like it was something aimed at mothers, because
she said that she'd been inspired to create it because
she'd lost her sense of self during a difficult period
of motherhood. And that's why I was really shocked when
I saw this promotion, because I was expecting a soft,
(13:09):
sort of holistic challenge that allowed mums to do something
for themselves and feel supported by a community of other women. However,
it just seems like a spin off of the very
contentious seventy five Hard Challenge. Working out every day for
sixty days is pretty extreme. It's giving toxic dieting and
over exercising vibs just on Sarah saying that she felt
like she lost herself and this project is for her.
(13:31):
I mean, if you think about it, Sarah's old identity
before having her children was this fitness queen. So maybe
in that sense, she's finding herself by going back to
her roots and releasing this fitness program for all of
her followers, not just the mums. Yeah, but the promo
for the e book a couple of months ago, for
the postparton one was saying how much she's changed and
that she now isn't that person anymore. So it does
(13:54):
seem like a real backflip from Sarah because for years now,
I think she's really tried to prove that she's changed
from this person that used to push toxic dieting and
fitness content. But we don't necessarily know that it's toxic.
We haven't seen what the program is yet.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Well, I think a fitness challenge that makes you exercise
for sixty days in a row is going to be
quite extreme. I mean even the promo and all the
zooming up of the body, I mean it was all
about her body in that like, we haven't seen anything
like that from fitness brands for a long time.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
It is difficult for influencers because there is such a
fine line with being motivational and then something appearing quite toxic.
Because I know, for me, I'm five months postpartum and
I am looking for content online that will inspire me
to get out and get fit and healthy, and unfortunately
a lot of the time we as consumers are drawn
(14:49):
to content like this sixty days you can change your
body in sixty days.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
But I don't think it's a fine line. I think
it's this is clearly pushing toxic diet, get fit quickly,
and we know that the challenges like this don't work.
And this is all coming off the back of the
negative review that Sarah received from the ABC about her
old workout guide, Sweat It to Shred It. So back
(15:15):
in April this year, the ABC enlisted this panel of
experts to review the most popular influence that exercised guides
of the twenty tens. So they looked at Sarah's days
Sweated to Shred It. They also examined kayla Ad Senas's
infamous Bikini Body Guide and Ashy Binds his seven d
K and the experts all agreed that the three guides
(15:36):
put participants at risk of developing unhealthy relationships with food
and disordered eating, and the risk was particularly worrying when
you consider that the target market these guides were aimed
at were young women who already have a predisposition for
eating disorders. In fact, the ABC was warned by the
Butterfly Foundation and inside our institute to report on the
guides with caution because there was a risk soociated with
(16:00):
reporting about disordered eating and exercise. So it just really
worries me that it seems like Sarah's Day is going
back to her golden time of Instagram and YouTube and
recycling a fitness challenge that from the promotion looks toxic.
I'm hoping that it's not. I'm hoping that we see
a much more balanced workout routine with better food than
(16:23):
a NUTRITIONNUS has actually approved. But when you promote it
by showing off a toned, lean body zooming in on
abs and you're saying you're going to be working out
for sixty days everyone, we're getting our shit together and
doing this, I don't get a good vibe from it.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Never ever, ever, let someone make you feel like you
are not good enough.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Tammy Hembro isn't happy about Matt Zukowski's latest claims about
their failed relationship. The og Australian influencer, was left reeling
after her ex husband revealed he felt dead inside during
their short lived marriage. Now Kate so'f discussed Matt's claims
in depth on Friday's show, but can you give those
who missed it a quick summary?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
So, Matt opened up about how he was feeling during
his marriage in an episode of his podcast dedicated to
Are You Okay Day, and in that episode, he reflected
on his past year and conceded that he had hit
rock bottom and struggled to get out of bed. He
also said he listened back to an episode of his
podcast from last year and realized he's a completely different
(17:26):
person now. He then made the jibe about being dead
inside this time last year, which was just a few
months out from his wedding to Tammy Hembro.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
It surprised me to hearm At say this, because that
was definitely not the impression he was giving across this
time last year. It just shows you how fake social
media can be.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
I personally wasn't surprised because you could tell there was
a lot going on behind the scenes now. On Friday,
Tammy seemingly responded to Matt's claims with a pointed TikTok.
So she used one of those Roulette style filters that
flicks through different options to decide what it was her
song to do. So the filter landed on this is
your sign to cool them out, and Tammy really played
(18:06):
it to the camera, acting as if this might be
a possibility, which sparked excitement in the comments. Unfortunately for us,
Tammy got cold feet, so she did film a call
out video, but then decided against posting it. So Tammy
touched on it during a get Ready with Me video
she posted over the weekend. This is what she said.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
I've been really good. Had a bit of a crash
out the other day. Like I started filming like a
full like crash out video that I was going to
post on TikTok, but I couldn't, Like I could not
get through it without crying. And there is no way
that I will post myself crying on any frickin' app
(18:46):
ever again, because I'm just going to get made fun of.
You can't be vulnerable online because people just make fun
of you anyway. I'm glad I didn't post it anyway,
because it was just a bit of a bit of
a moment. Other than that, I've been really good word now.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
This is clearly in reference to Alima Amiga's video which
went absolutely viral, and a couple of weeks ago we
discussed whether we thought Tammy would find it funny. I
thought she would have, but it appears she didn't find
it funny at all.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
No.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
I mean, I suppose it didn't help that her two
ex'es and her ex's new partner liked the video, so
she probably felt like she was being gained up on.
What I found most interesting about Tammy's video update was
just how much it'd actually mimic what Matt said on
his podcast. So she said that she was feeling lighter
(19:34):
and more and more herself, which is essentially what Matt said,
and she also made a vibe about how she's learnt
what she values, which is loyalty, and then said this.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Just feel like I've learned a lot. Never ever, ever
let someone make you feel like you are not good enough,
because trust me, you are. Oh my god, I'm not
going to start crying. Never crying on these archives. Never,
I actually never cry anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Tammy finished up by saying she's focusing on herself, her life,
and her kids and not paying attention or giving energy
to anyone else. And then for anyone who's playing along
at home and invested in Tammy's in visiline journey, she
dropped that she used to suffer with pain from jaw clenching,
but weirdly enough it stopped after her breakup. Unfortunately it's
back now though, because of her in visil line, which
(20:20):
obviously is a potshot to say, well, I was so
stressed in that relationship that was constantly clenching my draw. Well,
I think it's a stroke of genius that she didn't
put out said crash out video because she's still managed
to take a potshot at Matt and not have shared
all these juicy details. It says a lot without saying anything. Yeah, well,
(20:40):
she understands that her posting a call that video of
her crying and detailing all of the supposed things that
Matt has done to her would go viral. What's not
going to go as viral but still get her message
out there is her doing a get ready with me
and dropping a few little things about oh I was
gonna do this, but I just you know, I don't
want to be paid out again online and I'm not
going to put myself through that.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
And sometimes when you weighe through all the dirty details,
your message can get lost. I wonder if it's pending
in her drafts though, like that crying video was like,
she may have kept it and go my release this.
If he puts something else out, Yeah, I've got it
up my sleep. Wait say I'm dirty with Alima Omega
now because it sounds like he's cost us further details
about this breakup with his video.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Look, I think it's only a matter of time. I
mean with every podcast Matt releases, he drops a few
more bread crumbs and then we get a bit more
back from Tammy.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
We're talking about bread crumbs. Tammy has dropped a few
of her own in relation to the Brown Low. So
she's been documenting skin treatments she's undergoing at her sister's
skin clinic. This is what she said, come with me
to my skin appointment. So my sisters own a skin clinic.
It's called skin They're always booked out though, but I've
booked in appointments every single week now because i have
(21:53):
something coming up that I need, like really good skin.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
For Tammy is clearly going to the Brownlow, Like what
other event is she working so hard on getting her
skin looking good for? She knows that when she steps
foot on that red carpet, she is going to have
the eyes of all of the mainstream media of Australia
on her. And it seems like the AFL is annoyed
that all the attention about the Brownlow is on Tammy
(22:17):
and it seems like they're trying to shift the attention
back onto the football because an AFL insider has been
quoted telling News Corp the Brownlow is who is the
fairest and best player in the competition as opposed to
who has the hottest girlfriend.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
I'm pretty sure if you looked at the ratings though,
the viewership would peak during the Red Carpet at the
Brownlow and significantly drop off.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Oh definitely. I mean, everyone wants to see what's going
on in the Red carpet. No one really cares about
the count itself until the end of the night when
it gets close. And Bailey Smith is actually one of
the three AFL players that ESPN's Brownlow predictor has sitting
on top of the leaderboard. So if Tammy is there,
it seems like she may get a bit of airtime.
(23:00):
It's not like she's dating one of the players that
doesn't get any votes, like they're going to be panning
up on him and her at this election.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
I mean, the AFL might be pissed off about it,
but I'm pretty sure Channel seven will be loving the
thought of Tammy being there.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
The AFL should be welcoming her with open arms. I mean,
Sophie and I spoke about the Taylor Swift, Travis Kelsey
NFL effect.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
They should be.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Examining that and seeing how they can harness it with
the AFL. Well, that's where we're going to leave things today.
