Australian influencers on a brand trip to Uluru have been accused of disrespecting sacred Indigenous sites. The influencers defended their social media posts, saying they were adhering to the trip organiser’s strict content approval process.

Tammy Hembrow and Bailey Smith made it Instagram official on Friday night, just three weeks after they were busted on a date on the Gold Coast. The pair confirmed their romance by sharing an intimate look at their date night. Tammy posted a photo of Bailey’s hand on her leg, as they dined at an exclusive restaurant in Melbourne. The hard launch has added further fuel to speculation that Tammy will be walking the red carpet at the Brownlow.

Chrissy Teigen has revealed she had to get a tattoo of her kids’ birthdays so she can remember them. The admission came when she appeared as a guest on the second series of Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello, and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
hottest influenza and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, Australian influencers
on a brand trip to Ularu have been accused of
disrespecting indigenous sites. Chrissy Teagan resurrects Megan Markle's disastrous second
season launch, and Tammy Hembro and Bailey Smith make it

(00:25):
Instagram official. But first, Kate, A lot of our listeners
have been joking that Laura Henshaw has put a curse
on you.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Look, I think she's too much of a nice person
to do that. I think I've brought karma on myself
because in our Subs episode we spoke about how terrible
and raspy her voice was because the poor thing was
sick as a dog. I'm not really that sick. I
just sound terrible recents.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
I've got laryngitis, yes, and you refuse to miss out
on being on the podcast. Sophie said she was going
to sub herself in, but you've insisted and that you're
going to push through.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Well, there's some great topics to speak about this week,
So I'm sorry that you have to listen to my
very annoying voice. So April fourteenth May, Wait, is that
sixteen or eighteen?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
On eighteenth?

Speaker 4 (01:04):
John?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Miles? May May sixteen.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Chrissy Tagan has revealed she had to get a tattoo
of her kid's birthdays so she can remember them. The
admission came after she appeared as a guest on the
second series of Meghan Markle's Netflix show We Love Meghan.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
I feel like this was a real highlight for the
show because we are fans of Meghan, and I don't
like to bag her show out because I thoroughly enjoy it.
But it seems to have bombed in the ratings. It
wasn't even in the top Netflix shows to watch well.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
When we were chatting about the show earlier today, k
you said that it's a great show to have on
in the background to fall asleep too.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Oh my god. I had the best sleep on Friday
night in front of this show. I got my Squish
mellow and a blanket on the couch. I was out
for hours. It was delightful. It kind of reminds me
because I used to love falling asleep in front of
like Nigella Lawson, And that's no disrespect to her show.
It's about the atmosphere that it creates.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I don't know if that's the inten with love Meghan,
for you to fall asleep in front of her, but
I know what you mean. It's just that wholesome, like
you can have it on in the background and be
doing something else. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I also did a puzzle on Saturday Night, I mean
the wild weekend that I had.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Gosh, you really are the target market for this show.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
But I think this season they've actually had a lot
better guests. So they had like Jay Shaddy, they had
Chrissy Teagan. There were a few that they could have
done without, Like there was this boring old guy at
the end that I had no idea what he was
on about.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
But do you notice they actually highlighted some of Meghan's
mistakes throughout the show.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
When they were doing the flower arranging.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
She poured water into the vessels and all of the
water flooded the table. And there was another time when
she was making some kind of like fruit roll up
and she couldn't sive it through or were you asleep then?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
I actually don't recall the second but the weirdest thing
for me is that every time she introduces this new craft,
she's like, oh, we're going to be making soap, and
then she admits it's the first time that she's ever
done it. It's like, well, it's obviously you've just been
told that you have to do it.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Well, she's a princess. She's hardly making her own soap.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
What about when she was making the silk scarfs and
she just was like so impressed with everything that she did.
She's like, yeah, they're gonna like this.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
She knows that most normal people, like, if you were
given a gift from Megan Markle that was handmade, how
much would you treasure that even if it was just
some like piece of crap.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, I love her line is not too shabby, Like
that's not too shabby.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
I love it because every time she gets a compliment,
she's so selfishured she's like, I know, like, yeah it
is it is really great or something.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
She hands out the compliment before people have even had
a chance to In terms of Chrissy teaken forgetting her
kid's birthdays, this came up when Meghan suggested that they
should make pressed flower jewelry, and she said that they
should use flowers from their children's birth month, and it
sent Christy into a bit of a panic because she's like, Oh,
hang on, I actually don't know my kid's birthdays. She
then remembered that she has a tattoo on her arm

(03:47):
that lists them all. However, she needed Meghan's help deciphering
it because one of the tattoos was a little bit blurred.
She couldn't tell her son's birthday was on the sixteenth
or the eighteenth.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
But the birthdays were in Roman numerals, so she had
to call that for a husband to try and tell
Roman Yurila was.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
That was where the confusion was.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
See. I forced Reese to watch Meghan's show with me,
and he said, God, you can see how powerful Meghan
Markle is that she's got John Legend waiting for his
wife in the room next I.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
She was like, Oh, sorry, had I know, and I
would have got Age here to hang out with you.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
We're talking about h Meghan dropped that she had hats
made for Prince Harry's fortieth so they gave them to
all of his friends that attended the party, and printed
on the hat.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Was p H forty What Prince Harry?

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, so that means his friends call him Prince Harry.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
When I hear the word pH I just think of
like the acidity levels. Wouldn't you feel like a bit
of a wyanker walking around with a hat that said
Prince Harry on it?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I wonder if she has one that says dos Duchess
of Sussege. I was really surprised to hear Chrissy and
Meghan talk about deal and o'deal, because that's how they
actually met, being briefcase girls on that show. I thought
Megan might have tried to hide that a little bit.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
What did I just get in my head when you
said that briefcase wanker from in Betweens?

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Well?

Speaker 1 (04:56):
I thought it was kind of good that Meghan touched
on it, because everyone's been talking out about it behind
her back, Like every meme of Megan Markle was her
opening the briefcase.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Uh dressed with me.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Tammy Hembro and Bailey Smith made it Instagram official on
Friday night, just three weeks after they were busted on
a day on the Gold Coast. The pair confirmed their
romance by sharing an intimate look at their date night.
Tammy posted a photo of Bailey's hand on her leg
as they dined at an exclusive restaurant in Melbourne. The
hard launch has added further fuel to speculation that Tammy

(05:27):
will be walking the red carpet at the Brown Low.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
My jaw hit the floor when I saw Tammy's story.
As I mentioned in the megan topic, I was a
comatost on the couch in front of that show, and
when I saw the initial snap of the fancy restaurant
go up, I studied it very closely, and I couldn't
see any distinguishing features of who she was actually dining.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
With, even though it was so obvious it was him.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Well, she's been in Melbourne with her sister, so I thought,
maybe it's her sister. Maybe she's just teasing.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Oh, she just so.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Happens to be in Melbourne now every weekend. I mean,
she's been in Melbourne more times than she was when
she was dating Matt, and.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Melbourne, of course is his hometown. Thankfully, Tammy didn't keep
us guessing for too long, because two hours later she
shared an updated photo from the table, this time with
the visible hand on her leg. Bailey then only re
shared the photo to take any guesswork out of it.
It's funny because it seemed like some people were confused
in Tammy's comments because she ended up posting photos of
her in that pink dress that she wore on the date,

(06:21):
and people were like, oh, were you out with Matt?
Is it back on?

Speaker 5 (06:23):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
What? So keep up?

Speaker 3 (06:25):
People read the daily Mail for goodness sake.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I love how it was almost like Tammy was trying
to soft launch this relationship by sharing the stock standard.
You know man's hand in the photo. Yeah, they'd been
kissing in front of all these diners at arrestaurant a
few weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
They've been popped out together.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I was wondering how many wines deep they were when
they shared the photo. But when I had a closer look,
Tammy was the only one drinking. She had a glass
of wine in front of her, but Bailey was visibly
double parked on two soft drinks. He is in the
midst of preparing for a finals campaign with Geelong Football Club.
He had the weekend off before his team takes on
Brisbane at the MCG on Friday night. I have a
feeling Tammy will be there.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
I can't imagine Gelong's coach will be thrilled about this.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Whole relationship all their supporters if they bomb out of
the finals.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Just giving Victoria Beckham vibes. When Bex was playing in
a lot of the finals and the coach was just like.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
For fox sake, why is she down at the game.
It's so distracting.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yeah, if ge'el long out of the finals, all the
supporters are going to play temmy on them.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Now, this day came just twenty four hours after Bailey
made headlines at the AFL Awards.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
It's funny because I was out on Thursday night with
my best friend and also soph and the TV was
on and sop and a friend Owen was like, oh,
is that the Brownlow Medal? Like, it's Tammy out that
My No, the Brownload medal is right before the Grand Final.
We haven't even started finals yet.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I thought you were going to say, look it's Tammy
Hambro's boyfriend on the TV.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
But on a more serious note, Bailey bravely spoke about
his mental health battles and this is while he was
accepting his All Australian Blazer. Let's take a listen to
what he said.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
It was about a year ago I got out of
asych word, I was in Epworth Campbell for like four weeks.
I'm and I got a couple of hours out today
and I spent that sort of training and I went
through a really dark time, and yeah, I didn't think
i'd get to suppose the other side. I know, not
just an injury, but until you sort of experience it
and have a sense of identity sort of taken away
from you and then sort of go through, you know,

(08:16):
some teething issues with I don't know, moving clubs and
I don't know outside noise and still trying to just
grow up and yeah, rehab a knee. So yeah, I'm
super grateful to be, you know, on the other side
of it.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
I was absolutely blown away by what he said. It
was incredibly powerful and I think it will help so
many young men out there. I've personally lost a friend
to suicide and he used to play AFL and I
got goosebumps listening to it because it is this type
of honesty and bravery we need. So thank you to
Bailey for sharing this because I think it will save lives.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
His speech was so strong, and I think it was
even more powerful because we don't normally see men Bailey's
age or even older men talking about their emotions like that,
and I think it will open the floodgate for other
men out there to have some serious conversations. I haven't
followed Bailey's career too closely, but I've heard he's this
breath of fresh air in the AFL and he's used

(09:11):
to having these sorts of candid conversations. And on Friday night,
I totally understood why he is this jen Z Pinnock
because away from his obvious good looks, he also speaks
about these really important topics. Yeah, and I can understand
why Tammy Hembro was so smitten, and she gave us
an insight into exactly how she was feeling before her date.
So she filmed a fit check along with a miming

(09:32):
session as she does.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
So. She was dressed in this slinky pink dress and
mind to Olivia Dean song man I need. If the
title doesn't give it away, the song is all about
knowing how you deserve to be loved and not being
afraid to ask for it.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Now, Tammy specifically mine to the lyrics already gave you
the time and the place, so don't be shy, just
come be the man I need tell me you got
something to give.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I want it.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Tammy keeps telling us everything we need to know, one
song at a time. I'm very grateful for that insight.
And it seems like the date went really well because
influencer updates au was reporting that Tammy's Instagram story of
a kangaroo hopping around the next morning was taking in Belbray,
which is where Bailey is from, so obviously visiting the family.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
I wonder what the family think about it. I saw
this funny video pop up the other day and it
was this boomer dad talking to his daughter and he
knew all the goss about Bailey Smith and Tammy Hembro.
He didn't quite know Matt Sakowski by name, but he's like, Oh,
that's that girl that recently got a divorce.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
It's just so funny hearing boomers now talking about Tammy Hembro.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Oh, worlds are colliding.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Here is the AFL suddenly going to experience the Taylor
Swift effect? Yea, all these new people going to be
tuning into the footage just to spot Tammy there.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Well.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
To be honest, I've always grown up loving the football,
but in my mid twenties, that interest kind of waned
and I'm like, oh, I'm actually want to see if
she's there on the sidelines now. One media publication whose
interest has dramatically increased in Tammy Hembro is The Herald's
and we spoke on Friday about how she had told
The Herald son that she was in Melbourne for work
and play and she wasn't wrong. She's been very busy

(11:07):
on both fronts. So on Thursday night she attended a
fashion event where she told media that Bailey was a
sweetie and a nice guy, and the following day she
was at the chemist Warehouse twenty twenty five brand showcase,
where she was promoting her Selfish Supplements range.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
This Chemist's Warehouse event was all over my Instagram page.
It looked like an incredible event, But what really caught
my eye was the fact that not only was Tammy there,
but so was Masakowski.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
There were so many influences there and from so many
different areas. You had like uryality, TV stars, your AFL players,
media personalities. Yeah, but I didn't expect to see Matt
Sakowski there because it was heavily promoted that Tammy's Supplement
range was going to have an activation there. It turns
out that their appearances were coordinated to avoid any awkward
run in. So Matt attended the morning session and left

(11:55):
by eleven thirty and Tammy was at the afternoon session.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
I don't blame Matt for leaving before Tammy got there
because his sister Amy was also there.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
That would have been super awkward.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
I mean, if I was mad, I probably wouldn't have
shown up at all.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, it was pretty interesting because he was seen hanging
out with former AFL footballer and Big Brother contestant Dan Gone.
And we recently spoke about Dan on Outspoken because he
was the one that created that viral video where he
dissected the serving of gravy in that photo of Tammy
and Bailey making out at a restaurant.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Yeah, I feel like Dan would have a lot to
say about this relationship with Tammy and Bailey. Now, on
the topic of viral videos, we need to talk about
Paul Alima's video poking fun at Tammy Hembro.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Now, it really divided.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Opinions in the Outspoken Facebook community and we ended up
having to delete it because it got reported a number
of times.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
So for those not familiar with Paul Alima.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
He is better known by his handle Alima Amiga. So
he's a former Irish soccer player who creates these skits,
mainly poking fun at influences as well as content on teas.
And he recently cracked the three million follow account on
Instagram and he's got a similar audience on TikTok. I'd
say his skits have a Celeste Barber kind of vibe

(13:10):
because he often imitates something he's seen on social media.
There was a hilarious one he did on Megan Markle,
you know that podcast she was on Yet Yet anyway,
So he often takes podcast clips and then he'll pretend
he's in the editing studio listening.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Back to them. It's absolutely hilarious.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, And he used a similar formula for the Tammy
parody on Friday. So he captured the video collecting online
sympathy since twenty seventeen and opened the video by sharing
a snippet from Tammy's recent crying videos for those who
missed it. A couple of weeks ago, Tammy shared a
montage of videos of her crying during her marriage to
Matt Sakowski. So, after Alima shared the clips of Tammy crying.

(13:48):
The video cut to him pretending to be Tammy setting
up the crying shots.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yes, so he showed himself sitting on the toilet, Fate
crying in front of a camera which was set up
on a tripod. There was another shot of him in
the car and he asks a friend to pass him
this full on professional lighting and he starts Fate crying
into the camera.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Yeah. There was also this one of him filming his
own handshaking and he was asked an assistant if he
got the shot. There was also this clip at the
end in the editing suite. Let's throw to what he said. Yeah,
I mean I think this.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Video should go second.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yeah, yeah, and then maybe.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Yeah, do you have any music?

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Don't we concuse I've got this one.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Here's Yeah, this.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
One is sad enough.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Yeah. Look, this might have been an unpopular opinion, but
I laughed when I saw this video, and I actually
thought it was hilarious.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
I have to agree with you, Amy. I laughed out
loud when I watched the video. And I was a
bit surprised by the feedback in our Facebook group because
I got tagged by people saying, oh my god, can
you delete this. It's so offensive, And I get where
people were coming from because it does seem mean to
pay Tame out when she was sharing her true feelings
about a difficult situation. But again, when we discussed this

(14:56):
on the show, I did find it odd that she
had time to set up a camera. She did explain
she was actually filming voice messages to her sisters and
that's how she managed to organically capture these shots. But
I think it's more commentary on influences in general.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah, I mean, when I saw the video, I thought,
do you know what?

Speaker 1 (15:13):
He could have actually just made the video and not
shown the clips of Tummy at the start crying but
guess who it was. Yeah, but that's his style. He
could have poked fun at influences generally filming themselves crying.
But I almost feel like, because Tummy has now moved
on with Bailey Smith, yeah, it almost makes it funnier
because she's probably laughing at herself. I can imagine Tummy

(15:36):
sitting down with her sisters and having a bit of
a giggle at that. I don't actually think it was
meant to.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Be really really mean.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
It's just meant to be sort of a laugh as
you said about how crazy it seems for normal people
to see influencers filming themselves like that crying.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah, it's more commentary on influencer culture in general. I
want to know how you feel, though, Amy, about the
fact that it's come out that Tommy's ex husband Matt
Szakowski liked the video alongside her ex fiance Matt Paul
and his new partner Analise See.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Even though I find the video funny, I feel like
it was a bit of a dog move for them
all to like it.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Yeah, it's a big statement from those three because it
gets in pretty bad taste to publicly like the video,
like go and send it in your group chats, have
a laugh about it.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
I can understand why Matt Zakowski's liked it because he's
hurt over the Bailey Smith thing. But for Matt, Pool
and Annalise, I found that surprising because from an outsider
looking in, they seem to be getting on well doing
the co parenting stuff, and that cast a shadow of
doubt on that friendly relationship that we're meant to think
that they have, because you think, oh, wow, actually do

(16:39):
they all hate each other, particularly when Tammy has gone
out of their way to be respectful to Matt Paul.
They're almost implying she's the problem. Yeah, when you see
all the people liking it that are, you know, former partners.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Of her, you're like, oh okay.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
I also noticed that Bailey Scarlett, who used to date
Rehyese Hawkins, liked it too. So it seemed like this
opportunity for everyone that might have a bit of beef
with Tammy to get behind the video.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
So right now I am in Uluru, which I know
a lot of you would have seen. There is quite
a lot of social media discussion.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Australian influencers on a brand trip to Ularu have been
accused of disrespecting sacred indigenous sites. The influencers defended their
social media posts saying they were adhering to the trip
organizers strict content approval process. Now, Ularu is a sacred
place of deep cultural and spiritual significance to the Arungul
people who are its traditional custodians. It is a place

(17:31):
on many people's bucket lists, and it's not the first
time the location has been showcased on a brand trip. Now, Kay,
can you explain to us who the organizers behind this
trip are well.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
There's been a bit of confusion about who hosted this
influencer trip because the influencers keep tagging the handle explore
Ularu on social media. So explore Ularu is a social
media alias for the Airs Rock Resort, which is a
tourism precinct at Yulara. It's made up of a collection
of hotels, campgrounds, airport, shops and support infrastructure near Ularu. Now,

(18:02):
the tourism precinct is owned by the Indigenous Land and
Sea Corporation, which is an Australian government body that helps
Aboriginal and Torrestrate islander people's acquire and manage land and
water rights so that they can achieve economic, social, cultural
and environmental benefits. And the day to day operations of
the resort are managed by Voyager's Indigenous Tourism Australia.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Now, in terms of how the resort makes money, it's
run as a commercial tourism business, not a government funded hotel. However,
its ownership and financial backing ultimately comes from an Australian
government established body, which is the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation,
So therefore the resort is indirectly supported through government created

(18:42):
funding mechanisms now. In terms of this trip, a group
of mostly white creators were invited to come along. Alissa
Jane Bella, Messina, Jessica Thordo, Tyra Brook, Ella Victoria, and
Lily April Rose attended. Elissa, Bella and Jessica are the
influencers though who have been receiving the most backlash. So
the three women are friends and have gained large social

(19:04):
media followings for sharing content centered around motherhood and lifestyle.
Alissa and Jessica are actually both currently pregnant now. In
terms of the content they shared, it was typical of
what you would expect from an influencer brand trip, so
before arriving in Ularu, they shared what they had packed
for the trip and their time at the airport, and
upon arrival they did a room tour and showed off

(19:26):
the goodie bags they received.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah and the following morning, Jessica filmed to Get Ready
with Me video and she spoke about how it was
a real full circle moment for her because she actually
worked at the hotel they were staying at seven years ago.
She also spoke about what was on the agenda for
the day, which included a did Redo workshop, Bushyards, a
visit to an art gallery and dot painting Now people
were left outraged when the women started sharing content from

(19:50):
day one of the trip because rather than sharing about
the Indigenous culture, they shared fit checks and trending sound
videos in front of Ularu.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
There was a lot of backlash over this content and
a lot of people questioned why no Indigenous creators were
invited on this trip. The influencers also got criticized for
not appropriately acknowledging country in their content, and to make
matters worse, influencers are accused of blocking First Nations people
when they shared their concerns about the brand.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Trip Now influencer Eloi's fit was one of the first
creators to call out the trip, and annow deleted TikTok.
A Reddit thread was also created by an anonymous First
Nations woman who wrote, They've flown a bunch of white
women to Ularu to take selfies and make sponsored reels
because nothing says respect like turning a sacred sight into
your personal backdrop. The woman went on to write, Ularu

(20:41):
is not your content farm, respect the mob, respect the
land now.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
In response to all the backlash, Alisa Jane revealed that
the influencers were briefed by the Annagul media team at
the start of the trip about what they could and
couldn't post now.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
During this hour long meeting.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
She says that they were informed that there was a
strict content approved process that they had to adhere to,
and she also said that they were told not to
include a welcome to country on every post. She wanted
to claim that the reason they hadn't been able to
share more about the trip was because they were waiting
on approval and some information they'd been taught they're not
allowed to share.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Bella Messina also responded to the criticism. She spoke directly
to the camera and tried to demonstrate how much she
respects Indigenous culture. This is what she said.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
I just want to say I have such deep respect
for First Nations culture and I have shown that for
years and years across my social media platforms. I have
an acknowledgment to country on my podcast, I have shared
lots of Indigenous Australian artwork.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
That I own.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
I have donated to Aboriginal and to Strait Islander charities.
In this trip, we have done so much consultation directly
with and a new community. We have talked directly to
mob and learned from them, and I have shared that
on my social media platforms. We have also talked to
media consultants and the National Park team. This has been

(22:06):
a deeply educational and beautiful experience. But unfortunately to share
a lot of the learnings we have, there is quite
an extensive approval process, and so that content is being delayed.
For that reason, I have posted some deliverables and some
approved content on my stories. I've done a TikTok, but

(22:28):
there is longer content that is still waiting for approval,
and that is why lots of stuff has not been
able to be shared right now, because we are trying
our hardest to be deeply respectful of this area.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Bella then went on to say that she would continue
sharing content from her troop and it would be done
so in consultation. She also said it was her job
to help amplify the important message on our large platform
and it would be a disservice to the elder she
had met if she didn't now.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
As expected, Bella's video attracted further negative comment, and she
hit back, writing a reminder as well to people who
are making accusations and dog piling without all the information.
This is my form of income as a single mother.
Wrongly accusing creators of poor behavior directly impacts my ability
to work in the space and therefore impacts whether I

(23:18):
can feed and clothe my children. I am all for
accountability and free expression of opinion, but it needs to
be done from an informed basis.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
The Airs Rock.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Resort also responded directly to the criticism in a screenshot
shared to Reddit. The resort said that they collaborate regularly
with Indigenous creators and communities. However, they sometimes host non
indigenous creators to help promote ULARU to the broadest audience possible.
They went on to confirm that they're actually hosting an
all Indigenous creator trip in October.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Wow, and I think it's important to say upfront that
we really can't speak on behalf of the Unengol people.
And while I was researching the topic, I came across
an interesting TikTok by a First Nation's creator called Selena,
and she originally posted a TikTok calling Elisa Jane out
for allegedly blocking her for questioning the trip. So in
this latest video, Selena spoke about how she ended up

(24:08):
deleting her original TikTok after she was gently reminded by
a member of the arn and Gul mob that she
shouldn't speak on behalf of a community she isn't from.
So while Selena is Indigenous, she's not part of the
Arnengul Mob, who are the traditional custodians of Oolarue. So
she said she can advocate and amplify their voices, but
not speak on their behalf.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Yeah, and she went on to relay the message from
the arn and Gou mob that the backlash had gotten
out of hand and the issue should be with the
brand and not the influencers. According to Selena, the member
of the mob said it was not the influencer's fault,
they were just invited on the brand trip. In terms
of what we can share our opinion on is the organization
of this brand trip from a pr perspective, because it

(24:50):
seems like they really tried their best with the content
approval process. They had this strict process in place, but
it's ultimately what let them down because the fat that
they approved fit checks and trending sound videos to be
shared first over videos that centered around indigenous culture was
a massive mistake. It really got this brand trip off

(25:12):
on the wrong foot and it's had everyone focusing on that,
and it seems like this trip has actually been really positive.
The influencers have immersed themselves in the culture. They just
haven't been able to share those moments yet because they're
still being approved. So I think if the approval process
was always going to be this lengthy, then they should
have told influencers to bang up content and then share

(25:32):
it after the trip to avoid any offense.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
It's really unfortunate because it seems like the brand may
have been trying to do the right thing by putting
this approval process in place. It sounds like they wanted
to be really sensitive about the content they shared, but
it's actually backfired because they haven't been able to share
the content which actually best.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Represents this trip.
