SPEAKER_02 (00:15):
Hello everyone,
welcome back to Overopinionated.
I wanted to get this episodearound Wednesday, but there's a
reason why I um only do oneepisode a week.
Really, I do three episodes amonth most of the time.
But um you know, just a quickpolitical update.
(00:38):
When some Sears had her debatewith Abigail Spanberger, Abigail
basically said a bunch of wordsthat meant nothing.
That's just how she is.
Um, she's a great wordsmith, butthey have no substance.
She refused to say she would notallow biological men in women's
(01:00):
uh bathrooms and uh privatespaces.
She refused to say that becauseshe's going to allow it, and we
know that.
She refused to unendorse JayJones for his horrible comments
we talked about last week, uh,toward former Speaker Todd
Gilbert and his children callingfor their deaths.
(01:25):
So, um, and remember you canvote early, Monday through
Friday, at your local earlyvoting precinct, your um
register, your voter register inevery locality in the state of
Virginia, please go and vote.
But this is not a politicalepisode, it is a biblical
episode, and um we'll start offwith the apostles' creed.
(01:50):
I believe in God, the FatherAlmighty, maker of heaven and
earth, and in Jesus Christ, hisonly son, our Lord, which was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified and buried.
He descended into hell the thirdday he rose from the dead.
(02:10):
He ascendeth into the hell intoheaven and set up at the right
hand of God the Father Almighty.
From henceforth he shall come tojudge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, theHoly Catholic Church, the
communion of the saints, theforgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, andthe life everlasting.
Amen.
Remember, uh hell is interpretedmany by just the grave.
(02:34):
And Holy Catholic Church meansthe universal church, not the
Roman Catholic Church.
And the universal church is theone we are all a part of.
So we are getting back into theLife of David series.
It has been a while, so a quickrecap in uh chapter 20.
Uh King Saul is trying to killKing David.
(02:57):
And um King Saul has uh tried toget his son, Jonathan, to kill
King David.
Jonathan and and um David workout a plan, and uh David runs
away and he escapes, so that hislife may be spared.
Um and we're gonna be readingchapter 21 through 24.
(03:22):
Relax, I'm not gonna be readingthat.
We are actually gonna be usingthe King James version of the
Bible because I found acopyright-free audio Bible of
the King James Bible.
Now it sound kind of sounds likean old movie, as my wife told
me, but it's copyright-free.
We don't want to get struck downwith copyright.
(03:43):
Uh, if not today, in the futureor something.
And I'm gonna be pausing ummomentarily to give my
commentary.
This helps me not have topronounce extremely hard words,
and um, so forth.
And it makes things go a littlebit quicker.
(04:04):
Um, so but if you want to followalong with whatever version of
the Bible you want, if it wantsto be the King James or the NIV
New King James, we are not KingJames onlyist, but uh my
problem's never been with theKing James Bible, but only the
King James only position.
So, um I'm gonna be playing someof the copyright-free um uh King
(04:29):
James Bible, and we're startingin First Samuel chapter 21.
Just a disclaimer (04:34):
if you hear
clacking or pans in the
background, my wife is makingsupper.
So here's chapter 21.
SPEAKER_00 (04:45):
And Ahimelech was
afraid at the meeting of David
and said unto him, Why art thoualone and no man with thee?
And David said unto Ahimelechthe priest, The king hath
commanded me a business, andhath said unto me, Let no man
know anything of the businesswhereabout I tend thee, and what
I have commanded thee.
And I have appointed my servantsto such and such a place.
(05:06):
Now therefore, what is underthine hand?
Give me five loaves of bread inmine hand, or what there is
present.
And the priest answered Davidand said, There is no common
bread under mine hand, but thereis hallowed bread, if the young
men had kept themselves at leastfrom women.
And David answered the priestand said unto him, Of a truth,
women have been kept from usabout these three days since I
(05:29):
came out, and the vessels of theyoung men are holy, and the
bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified
this day in the vessel.
So the priest gave him hallowedbread, for there was no bread
there but the shoe bread thatwas taken from before the Lord
to put hot bread in the day whenit was taken away.
Now a certain man of disturbanceof Saul was there that day
(05:49):
detained before the Lord, andhis name was Doeg, an Edomite,
the chiefest of the herdmen thatbelonged to Saul.
And David said unto Ahimelech, and is there not here under
thine hand spear or sword?
SPEAKER_02 (06:01):
For I'm going to
pause that right there.
I was trying to pause itearlier, so forgive me.
So the bread that they aretalking about, David's man is
hungry.
Um, as I was looking at, this isthe bread only um for the
priest.
Um and um you're only reallyonly the priest were supposed to
(06:21):
have it, but uh in the case ofemergency, common men could have
it if they would not sleep withtheir uh wives, had not had
sexual relations with theirwives, or just anyone in
general.
And um I'm gonna read you alittle bit of a verse from
Matthew chapter twelve, startingat verse one, and uh Jesus
(06:43):
mentions this, and we're stillin the King James at that time
Jesus went on the Sabbath daythrough the corn, and his
disciples were hungry and beganto pick the corn and to eat it.
But when the Pharisees saw it,they said unto him, Behold, thy
disciples do that which is notlawful to do upon the Sabbath
(07:07):
day.
He said unto them, Have ye notread what David did when he was
hungry and they were with him?
Now he entered into the house ofGod, and he did eat the sh
showbread, which was not lawfulfor him to eat, neither was them
(07:27):
with which were with him, butonly for the priest.
Or have ye not read the law nowthat on the Sabbath day the
priest and the in the templeprofane the Sabbath and are
blameless, but I say unto youthat in this place is one
greater than the temple.
But if ye had known what thismeaneth, I will have mercy and
(07:54):
not and not sacrifice, ye wouldnot have condemned the god the
gutless, for the Son of Man isLord even over the Sabbath day.
And um yeah, that's so Jesus isusing uh David's example of him
and his men being hungry, and istrying to tell the Pharisees,
(08:18):
listen, the Sabbath was made forman and not uh man was made for
Sabbath, not that men theSabbath was made for men and men
not made for the Sabbath.
So Sabbath was to give us abreak, not to put a burden upon
us.
And that's what Jesus is tryingto get through the fixed goals
(08:42):
of the Pharisees.
I just thought that was aninteresting tie-in.
We're going to continue readingin 1 Samuel chapter 21.
SPEAKER_00 (08:49):
I neither brought my
sword nor my weapons with me,
because the king's businessrequired haste.
And the priest said, The swordof Goliath the Philistine, whom
thou slewest in the valley ofElah, behold, it is here wrapped
in a cloth behind the ephod.
If thou wilt take that, take it,for there is no other save that
here.
And David said, There is nonelike that.
(09:10):
Give it me.
SPEAKER_02 (09:12):
And David arose and
Isn't that pretty cool that um
David gets to use the sword ofGoliath, which he um slew?
And David said, Well, there'syou know, there's none like
that.
Uh give me the sword.
We'll continue.
SPEAKER_00 (09:31):
And fled that day
for fear of Saul, and went to
Achish, the king of Gath.
And the servants of Achish saidunto him, Is not this David the
king of the land?
Did they not sing one to anotherof him in dances, saying, Saul
hath slain his thousands, andDavid his ten thousands?
And David laid up these words inhis heart, and was sore afraid
(09:54):
of Akish, the king of Gath.
And he changed his behaviorbefore them, and feigned himself
mad in their hands, andscrambled on the doors of the
gate, and let his spittle falldown upon his beard.
Then said Akish unto hisservants, Lo, ye see the man is
mad.
Wherefore then have ye broughthim to me?
Have I need of madmen that yehave brought this fellow to play
(10:17):
the madman in my presence?
Shall this fellow come into myhouse?
SPEAKER_02 (10:22):
Okay, we'll stop
there.
That's the end of chapter one.
So David goes to the king.
Um, that king, as he's runningaway from King Saul, and he acts
like a madman.
He's deceptive, he lies to thesepeople.
Um now, have you ever been in asituation at work or just a s
(10:43):
just a situation in generalwhere even though you know lines
of sin, you do it anyway, because you're in fear.
Uh maybe your boss asks you ifyou did something or didn't do
something, and your firstresponse is out of no, yes, no.
That is a human reaction.
(11:03):
It's still a sin, but it's ahuman reaction.
That's the same thing that KingDavid is going through.
Now we see later on that it doeshave a pretty costly penalty for
the priest.
And um I'm gonna we're gonnacontinue 1 Samuel chapter 22.
SPEAKER_00 (11:24):
Chapter 22.
David therefore departed thenceand escaped to the cave Adullum.
And when his brethren and allhis father's house heard it,
they went down thither to him.
And everyone that was indistress, and everyone that was
in debt, and everyone that wasdiscontented, gathered
themselves unto him, and hebecame a captain over them, and
there were with him about fourhundred men.
(11:47):
And David went thence to Mizbiof Moab, and he said unto the
king of Moab, Let my father andmy mother, I pray thee, come
forth and be with you till Iknow what God will do for me.
And he brought them before theking of Moab, and they dwelt
(13:25):
with him all the while thatDavid was in the hold.
And the prophet Gad said untoDavid, Abide not in the hold,
depart and get thee into theland of Judah.
Then David departed and cameinto the forest of Herod.
SPEAKER_02 (13:41):
So it seems like uh
that particular king of Mo the
king of Moab was going toprotect David's family while he
asked David to leave to Judah.
I think we're picking up atverse six.
SPEAKER_00 (13:55):
Saul heard that
David was discovered, and the
men that were with him.
Now Saul abode in Gibeah under atree in Rhema, having his spear
in his hand, and all hisservants were standing about
him.
Then Saul said unto his servantsthat stood about him, Hear now,
ye Benjamites, will the son ofJesse give every one of you
fields and vineyards, and makeyou all captains of thousands
(14:17):
and captains of hundreds, thatall of you have conspired
against me, and there is nonethat showeth me that my son hath
made a league with the son ofJesse, and there is none of you
that is sorry for me, or showethunto me that my son hath stirred
up my servant against me to liein wait, as at this day.
Then answered Doegvi.
SPEAKER_02 (14:38):
So he's still
continuing in this paranoia of
the people liking David morethan him, being afraid of his
throne being overtaken, thisjust un uh unreasonable paranoia
that King David was coming forhis throne.
We're picking up in verse nine,I think.
SPEAKER_00 (15:02):
Domite, which was
set over the servants of Saul,
and said, I saw the son of Jessecoming to Nob to Ahimelech the
son of Ahitab, and he inquiredof the Lord for him, and gave
him bittles, and gave him thesword of Goliath the Philistine.
Then the king sent to callAhimelech the priest, the son of
Ahitab, and all his father'shouse, the priests that were in
(15:25):
Nob.
And they came all of them to theking.
And Saul said, Hear now, thouson of Ahitab.
And he answered, Here I am, mylord.
And Saul said unto him, Why haveye conspired against me, thou
and the son of Jesse, and thatthou hast given him bread and a
sword, and hast inquired of Godfor him, that he should rise
(15:49):
against me to lie in wait as atthis day.
Then Ahimelech answered the kingand said, And who is so faithful
among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son-in-law,
and goeth at my bidding, and ishonorable in thine house.
Did I then begin to inquire ofGod for him, be it far from me?
Let not the king impute anythingunto his servant, nor to all the
(16:12):
house of my father, for thyservant knew nothing of all
this, less or more.
And the king said, Thou shaltsurely die Himelech, Lamo, and
all thy father's house.
And the king said unto thefootmen that stood about him,
Turn and slay the priests of theLord, because their hand also is
with David, and because theyknew when he fled and did not
(16:34):
show it to me.
But the servants of the kingwould not put forth their hand
to fall upon the priests of theLord.
And the king said to Doeg, Turnnow and fall upon the priests.
And Doeg the Edomite turned, andhe fell upon the priests, and
slew on that day fourscore andfive persons that did wear a
linen ephod.
(16:55):
And Nob, the city of thepriests, smote he with the edge
of the sword, both men andwomen, children and sucklings
and oxen and asses and sheepwith the edge of the sword.
And one of the sons ofAhimelech, the son of Ahitab,
named Abiathar, escaped and fledafter David.
And Abiathar showed David thatSaul had slain the Lord's
(17:17):
priests.
And David said unto Abiathar, Iknew at that day when Doeg the
Edomite was there that he wouldsurely tell Saul, I have
occasioned the death of all thepersons of thy father's house.
Abide thou with me.
Fear not, for he that seeketh mylife seeketh thy life.
(17:38):
But with me thou shalt be insafe God.
SPEAKER_02 (17:41):
So we see here,
David's sin, his deception,
calls the priest their life.
Says Saul is drove crazy.
He asked his men to kill thepriest.
They wouldn't do it.
He turns to someone else and hedoes.
And you notice here, Saul doessomething here that he refused
(18:01):
to do to the Philistines, whichwas kill them all.
So God kills all of God'spriests, and Saul even calls
them the priest of the Lord.
You gave his men bread and him asword.
And Saul does here what he wascommanded by Samuel and God to
kill all the Philistines andrefuses to do it.
(18:26):
And kills God's prophets.
David sees this, and I believeis broken and hearted.
And he lets one of the sons ofthe prophets take refuge with
him.
He says, For the same man thatcomes after my life is coming
after your life.
(18:48):
Sin affects people that we'rearound.
And um we all sin, we all fallshort of God's glory, but we all
try to strive to become moreholy.
And listen, I have many, manysins in my life still right now,
that I need to get rid of, andI'm trying to work to get rid
of.
(19:08):
I don't believe that there'sever a day that we're completely
sinless.
I don't.
And I was talking to a friendone time, he said, Well, maybe
you go one day without sinning.
Well, maybe, but I don't thinkyou can spend a conscious day
without commit um maybe you cango one day without sinning.
(19:30):
But you're not going a weekwithout committing a sin.
That's pastors, that's teachersof God's word, that's me, that's
you.
I know that I'm held to a higherstandard, and that scares me.
But it also scares me to donothing with the calling God
wants me to do.
Both would be sins, both wouldbe bad for me on Judgment Day.
(19:52):
So the things I struggle with, the things I sin with, I ask God
to forgive me.
I know I'm going to heavenbecause it's his work.
But I believe everyone should betaken back at Judgment Day in a
holy fear of God.
God, please forgive us of oursins.
And please help us, Jesus.
(20:14):
In your holy name.
Amen.
But we're going to continue.
Chapter 23.
I like how this is going.
We're getting through a lot morematerial.
And I believe that this guy hasa good voice.
It might be the King JamesVersion.
But, you know, if someone elseis reading it, it's not as bad,
right?
And um, let me know.
(20:35):
Give me your feedback on how youlike this.
Chapter 23.
SPEAKER_00 (20:40):
Then they told
David, saying, Behold, the
Philistines fight againstKeilah, and they rob the
threshing floors.
Therefore David inquired of theLord, saying, Shall I go and
smite these Philistines?
And the Lord said unto David, Goand smite the Philistines and
save Keilah.
And David's men said unto him,Behold, we be afraid here in
(21:02):
Judah, how much more than if wecome to Keilah against the
armies of the Philistines?
Then David inquired of the Lordyet again, and the Lord answered
him and said, Arise, go down toKeilah, for I will deliver the
Philistines into thine hand.
So David and his men went toKeilah and fought with the
Philistines and brought awaytheir cattle and smote them with
(21:23):
a great slaughter.
So David saved the inhabitantsof Keilah.
And it came to pass whenAbiathar, the son of Ahimelech,
fled to David to Keilah, that hecame down with an ephod in his
hand.
And it was told Saul that Davidwas come to Keilah.
And Saul said, God hathdelivered him into mine hand,
(21:45):
for he is shut in by enteringinto a town that hath gates and
bars.
And Saul called all the peopletogether to war to go down to
Keilah to besiege David and hismen.
And David knew that Saulsecretly practiced mischief
against him, and he said toAbiathar the priest, Bring
hither the Ephod.
Then said David, O Lord God ofIsrael, thy servant hath
(22:09):
certainly heard that Saulseeketh to come to Keilah to
destroy the city for my sake.
Will the men of Keilah deliverme up into his hand?
Will Saul come down as thyservant hath heard?
O Lord God of Israel, I beseechthee, tell thy servant.
And the Lord said, He will comedown.
(22:29):
Then said David, Will the men ofKeilah deliver me and my men
into the hand of Saul?
And the Lord said, They willdeliver thee up.
Then David and his men, whichwere about six hundred, arose
and departed out of Keilah, andwent whithersoever they could
go.
And it was told Saul that Davidwas escaped from Keilah, and he
(22:51):
forbeared to go forth.
And David abode in thewilderness in strongholds, and
remained in a mountain in thewilderness of Zipp.
And Saul sought him every day,but God delivered him not into
his hand.
And David saw that Saul was comeout to seek his life, and David
was in the wilderness of Zip ina wood.
(23:13):
And Jonathan, Saul's son, aroseand went to David into the wood
and strengthened his hand inGod.
And he said unto him, Fear not,for the hand of Saul my father
shall not find thee.
And thou shalt be king overIsrael, and I shall be next unto
thee.
And that also Saul my fatherknoweth.
(23:33):
And they too made a covenantbefore the Lord.
And David abode in the wood, andJonathan went to his house.
Then came up the Ziphites toSaul, to Gibeah, saying, Doth
not David hide himself with usin strongholds in the wood in
the hill of Hekilah, which is onthe south of Jeshimon?
(23:54):
Now therefore, O king, come downaccording to all the desire of
thy soul to come down, and ourpart shall be to deliver him
into the king's hand.
And Saul said, Blessed be ye ofthe Lord, for ye have compassion
on me.
Go, I pray you, prepare yet, andknow and see his place where his
haunt is, and who hath seen himthere, for it is told me that he
(24:17):
dealeth very subtly.
See therefore and take knowledgeof all the lurking places where
he hideth himself, and come yeagain to me with the certainty,
and I will go with you.
And it shall come to pass, if hebe in the land, that I will
search him out throughout allthe thousands of Judah.
And they arose and went to Zifbefore Saul.
(24:37):
But David and his men were inthe wilderness of Maon, in the
plain on the south of Jeshimon.
SPEAKER_02 (24:43):
Saul also pause
there just a second.
So we see David's um we seeJonathan swearing again his
loyalty to his friend David overhis father, who went berserk in
rage, and Saul eagerly seekingDavid to kill him and eliminate
him from his um troubles.
SPEAKER_00 (25:07):
And his men went to
seek him, and they told David,
wherefore he came down into arock and abode in the wilderness
of Maon.
And when Saul heard that, hepursued after David in the
wilderness of Maeon.
And Saul went on this side ofthe mountain, and David and his
men on that side of themountain.
And David made haste to get awayfor fear of Saul, for Saul and
(25:29):
his men compassed David and hismen round about to take them.
But there came a messenger untoSaul, saying, Haste thee and
come, for the Philistines haveinvaded the land.
Wherefore Saul returned frompursuing after David and went
against the Philistines.
Therefore they called that placeSila Hamalekoth.
And David went up from thenceand dwelt in strongholds at
(25:53):
Engedi.
SPEAKER_02 (25:55):
Oh, I'm glad we're
doing the Bible read along with
the copyright-free stuff, because I would not want to
pronounce that word.
Um so um David is pursuing Saul,I mean, Saul is pursuing David
heavily, trying to eliminatehim, kill him and his men.
(26:15):
And then the Philistines invade.
Um I definitely think that'sGod's divine intervention there.
God pulling Saul away fromDavid.
We're gonna continue.
Chapter 24.
Um, and this I don't really likethis chapter.
This chapter always sticks outwith me.
(26:37):
And I'll tell you why.
SPEAKER_00 (26:39):
Chapter 24.
And it came to pass when Saulwas returned from following the
Philistines that it was toldhim, saying, Behold, David is in
the wilderness of Ingedi.
Then Saul took three thousandchosen men out of all Israel,
and went to seek David and hismen upon the rocks of the wild
goats.
And he came to the sheep coatsby the way, where was a cave.
(27:00):
And Saul went in to cover hisfeet.
And David and his men remainedin the sides of the cave.
And the men of David said untohim, Behold, the day of which
the Lord said unto thee, Behold,I will deliver thine enemy into
thine hand, that thou mayest doto him as it shall seem good
unto thee.
(27:21):
Then David arose and cut off theskirt of Saul's robe privily.
And it came to pass afterwardthat David's heart smote him
because he had cut off Saul'sskirt.
And he said unto his men, TheLord forbid that I should do
this thing unto my master, theLord's anointed, to stretch
forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the
(27:43):
Lord.
SPEAKER_02 (27:44):
Let's pause it right
there.
So David has the opportunity tokill Saul, as Saul is relieving
himself in the cave, and Davidcuts just a piece of Saul's robe
off to show that he could havetook his life, but didn't,
because he respected God'sanointing.
(28:05):
And um just take a look at that, how David is on the run from
Saul trying to take his life.
But David still respects Saul asthe anointed king appointed by
God.
When it comes to our leaders, wewe're not running for our lives
particularly vast majority oftimes.
(28:28):
How many people would have donewhat David did in that
situation?
We gotta evaluate our heartsthere.
Um I think it's funny it saysthe mountain of the goats.
I man, if you've ever had goats,my condolences, they get
everywhere.
I remember having goats with myparents.
I'd get text messages from theneighbors, your goats eating my
(28:49):
flowers again, and goatsclimbing out of the fence, goats
here, goats there.
If you can keep them up, they'regreat animals, they keep stuff
down.
Don't even let you pet them, butthey get everywhere, and they
can climb like no otherbusiness.
That's that's what is making methink about the that.
(29:10):
And maybe that's why they namedit that, maybe it's not, but
they're hidden in these cliffs.
I just imagine a goat walking upthese cliffs with no problem
whatsoever.
Something that us people wouldhave a harder time doing that
David's hiding out in.
We're gonna continue.
SPEAKER_00 (29:29):
So David stayed his
servants with these words and
suffered them not to riseagainst Saul.
But Saul rose up out of the caveand went on his way.
David also arose afterward andwent out of the cave and cried
after Saul, saying, My lord theking.
And when Saul looked behind him,David stooped with his face to
(29:51):
the earth and bowed himself.
And David said to Saul,Wherefore hearest thou men's
words, saying, Behold, Davidseeketh thy hurt?
Behold, this day thine eyes haveseen how that the Lord had
delivered thee today into minehand in the cave, and some bade
me kill thee, but mine eyesspared thee.
(30:13):
And I said, I will not put forthmine hand against my Lord, for
he is the Lord's anointed.
Moreover, my father, see, yea,see the skirt of thy robe in my
hand, for in that I cut off theskirt of thy robe and killed
thee not.
Know thou and see that there isneither evil nor transgression
in mine hand, and I have notsinned against thee.
(30:36):
Yet thou huntest my soul to takeit.
The Lord judge between me andthee, and the Lord avenge me of
thee.
But mine hand shall not be uponthee.
As saith the proverb of theancients, wickedness proceedeth
from the wicked, but mine handshall not be upon thee.
After whom is the king of Israelcome out?
(30:59):
After whom dost thou pursue?
After a dead dog, after a flea.
The Lord therefore be judge andjudge between me and thee, and
see and plead my cause anddeliver me out of thine hand.
SPEAKER_02 (31:16):
So we see David
making his plea to Saul, showing
him, Listen, I had theopportunity to take your life as
you've tried to take mine, chasing me into this mountain.
And he just shows his loyaltynot only to Saul but to God.
And here's Saul's response.
SPEAKER_00 (31:39):
When David had made
an end of speaking these words
unto Saul, that Saul said, Isthis thy voice, my son David?
And Saul lifted up his voice andwept.
And he said to David, Thou artmore righteous than I, for thou
hast rewarded me good, whereas Ihave rewarded thee evil.
(32:03):
And thou hast showed this dayhow that thou hast dealt well
with me.
For as much as when the Lord haddelivered me into thine hand,
thou killest me not.
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away?
Wherefore the Lord reward theegood, for that thou hast done
unto me this day.
And now behold, I know well thatthou shalt surely be king, and
(32:28):
that the kingdom of Israel shallbe established in thine hand.
Swear now, therefore, unto me bythe Lord that thou wilt not cut
out my seed after me, and thatthou wilt not destroy my name
out of my father's house.
And David swear unto Saul, andSaul went home.
But David and his men got themup unto the hold.
SPEAKER_02 (32:51):
So we see Saul
having remorse.
Um I read somewhere said he hadremorse, but not repentance, I
don't know, but he has remorsefor trying to take David's life
as David took his life.
And um it just shows David, although a sinful and flawed
(33:14):
man, still had a heart afterGod.
So it is possible to havestruggles with sin and have
God's have a heart for God.
David knew it was better.
David knew it was better tospare Saul than to take his
(33:34):
life.
And I I I want to read thatbecause this is gonna be your
verse of the day, Psalms 34.
(33:54):
Because Psalms 34 was written byDavid, and most people think it
is about this time period.
If he didn't write it duringthis time period, they believe
that he wrote it about this timeperiod.
And this is Psalms.
Psalms 34 34.
SPEAKER_00 (34:11):
I will bless the
Lord at all times, his praise
shall continually be in mymouth.
unknown (34:16):
My soul shall make her
boast in the Lord, the humble
shall hear thereof and be glad.
SPEAKER_00 (34:22):
Oh, magnify the Lord
with me, and let us exalt his
name together.
I sought the Lord and he heardme and delivered me from all my
fears.
They looked unto him and werelightened, and their faces were
not ashamed.
This poor man cried, and theLord heard him and saved him out
of all his troubles.
(34:42):
The angel of the Lord encampethround about them that fear him
and delivereth them.
O, taste and see that the Lordis good.
Blessed is the man that trustethin him.
O fear the Lord, ye his saints, for there is no want to them
that fear him.
The young lions do lack andsuffer hunger, but they that
(35:04):
seek the Lord shall not want anygood thing.
Come, ye children, hearken untome, I will teach you the fear of
the Lord.
unknown (35:13):
What man is he that
desireth life and loveth many
days, that he may see good?
SPEAKER_00 (35:20):
Keep thy tongue from
evil and thy lips from speaking
guile.
Depart from evil and do good.
Seek peace and pursue it.
The eyes of the Lord are uponthe righteous, and his ears are
open unto their cry.
The face of the Lord is againstthem that do evil, to cut off
the remembrance of them from theearth.
(35:42):
The righteous cry, and the Lordheareth and delivereth them out
of all their troubles.
The Lord is nigh unto them thatare of a broken heart, and
saveth such as be of a contritespirit.
Many are the afflictions of therighteous, but the Lord
delivereth him out of them all.
He keepeth all his bones, notone of them is broken.
(36:05):
Evil shall slay the wicked, andthey that hate the righteous
shall be desolate.
The Lord redeemeth the soul ofhis servants, and none of them
that trust in him shall bedesolate.
SPEAKER_02 (36:18):
So we see that
verse.
So I want to play, oh guys, thehymn of the day.
Uh I started doing this and I Iquit it, but um this is by um
this is from Dan Brown.
It is copyright free.
It is i I am well with m It iswell with my soul.
Uh this song I I believe wasactually written by a man who
(36:41):
had just lost two of hischildren in a ship accident, and
um he was from America and hesent his wife and children
aboard a ship to England, and hewas going to join them later as
a minister.
The ship sunk, his wifesurvived, and his children
passed away, and when he wasthere he found the place that
(37:04):
the ship had sunk, and he wrotethis song, um, incredible story
after just losing two of yourchildren.
It's so heartbreaking.
But even in these hard times,David had a refuge he could seek
by God, and I like this song,it's a one of the greats.
SPEAKER_01 (37:24):
So here is well of
my soul.com crap.
SPEAKER_02 (38:29):
Um, it just I'm
gonna read y'all the I'm gonna
read it.
I mean, it is that was copyrightfree, but I didn't know it was
gonna keep doing that.
But um but yeah, it is Well withMy Soul, great song.
Um let me pull up the lyrics.
(38:51):
It's also known as When PeaceLike a River.
When peace like a riverattendeth my way.
When sorrows like sea blow, burrows blow.
Whatever my lot have taught meto say, it is well of my soul.
(39:12):
And we see here, he says, whenlike a sorrow, like a sea
bellows roll, recalling whathappened to his children.
It is well of my soul, it iswell of my soul.
Though Satan should bufferthrough trials should come, let
the blessing assurance controlthat Christ has regarded my
(39:37):
hopeless estate, that his shedblo his shed his own blood for
my soul.
My sin, all the bliss of theglories and fault, my sin not in
part but in whole, is nailed tothe cross, and I bear it no
more.
Praise the Lord, all my soul.
(39:58):
And the Lord hath the day whenmy faith shall be sound, the
clouds be rolled back as scorn, the trump shall resound, and the
Lord shall descend.
Even so it is well with my soul.
It's a beautiful song, beautifulold hymn.
Um, let's say the Lord's prayerand we'll close.
(40:21):
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, and thy
kingdom come, thy will be doneon earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day your dailybread, and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive thosewho trespass against us, and
lead us not in temptation, butdeliver us from the evil one.
Divine is the kingdom, thepower, and glory forever and
(40:41):
ever.
Amen.
Um, guys, thank you for tuningin to over Opinionated.
We will be back, probably beback here next week.
Um, we're gonna continue theLife of David series.
Um, I don't know if that's gonnabe next week though, but we're
gonna eventually finish the Lifeof David series.
I think it'll go much fasterwith this method, and I, you
(41:03):
know, um I like this becauseanyone that needs to look at the
character of the life of Davidcan go to this and reference
this for help and maybe do somecharacter breakdowns and book
breakdowns as well.
And um, it was kind of put on myheart earlier this year, and
we're continuing in it.
(41:23):
We still have quite a bit to go.
Um, but this is the lowest pointin David's life, and uh so far,
so far, in his life, and uhwe're gonna continue talking
about the amazing character ofKing King David, learning from
his mistakes and beingemboldened by his faith and
(41:44):
heart.
God bless you guys.
See you here next episode.
