Speaker 1 (00:01):
hello everyone and
welcome back to the next episode
of overcome yourself, thepodcast.
As you know, my name is nicoleand I'm so excited to be here
today with alara.
Am I pronouncing that correctly, because I didn't ask you
before we started?
Yeah, that's correct.
Awesome, thank you so much.
So thank you so much for beinghere with us today and please go
ahead and take it away and letus know who you are, alara, and
(00:24):
who you help.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Absolutely so.
My name is Alara Sage and I amthe Oracle of Wealth and I
really have a mission to createa movement around how we are
creating wealth in this world.
We have been taught that thereis scarcity, that there is a
(00:47):
lack, that we should be afraid, that there's never enough, and I
personally experienced thiswhile I had plenty of money.
You know, we often think theonly people who have no money
have this fear, have thisanxiety, and it's just not true,
because it's what we've beentaught by society that there
just isn't enough.
(01:07):
So, even if you have enoughmoney quote, unquote you you
better keep working to get more.
And in 2021, I had a reallysuccessful business.
I really had everything fromthe external.
Looking in, my business wasvery good, I had plenty of money
in the bank, and yet I wasfeeling anxiety around money.
(01:31):
I still didn't even want tolook at my bank account and I
would still fear not havingenough, even though I had plenty
.
And the interesting thing was is, in the fall of 2021, I had
this devastating blow where allof my money was stolen from me.
(01:51):
Oh my, and it was in thismoment.
I remember it so clearly.
I was sitting at this computerin the kitchen and I was working
with this mentor who had beenrecommended to me, who I trusted
right, this wasn't, uh, off theinternet, it wasn't like an
email I received.
This was a person I'd beenworking with for about a month,
(02:13):
that had been referred to mefrom by a friend, and he
literally scammed me and Iwatched my bank account go to
zero and then he erasedeverything and disappeared and I
literally dropped to the floorin shock and despair and kind of
(02:34):
like what just happened to me,and I've always been able to
create my reality really clearlyand powerfully.
So even in that moment, Idefinitely felt the fear and I
was just like you know what?
I'm just going to turn thisaround and I'm going to just,
I'm just going to make the moneyback.
You know six figures, I'll justmake it back.
(02:55):
And then I had another blowwhere, in the next couple of
months, my entire businesscollapsed and I went into debt.
Entire business collapsed and Iwent into debt and I had to
face some really deepsubconscious belief structures
around scarcity, that there'sthis lack and that I was in such
(03:16):
a heightened state of fight orflight.
My nervous system wascontracted.
I wasn't making decisions froma place of groundedness and
centeredness.
I was making all of mydecisions from this fear and
this anxiety.
And through recognizing that, Ilearned how to use my breath to
(03:40):
shift my nervous system andbring myself into a regulated
nervous system and learn how torewire my body and my mind and
my emotions around money, realizing that all humans have
(04:11):
this, no matter what our levelsof wealth are, that we can have
these fears and anxieties aroundwealth.
So I help people to transformthat anxiety, that fear, that
not enoughness, that belief thatwe have to hustle, we have to
grind, we have to push, we haveto do all of these things that
are very exhausting grind, wehave to push, we have to do all
of these things that are veryexhausting in order to feel safe
in money.
And then, surprisingly enough,it never really works.
And so I'm here to create amovement where we actually that
(04:39):
they can start to really begrounded in their life and in
(05:02):
their experiences and recognizethese patterns that they've
created and shift those patternsand actually experience wealth
that feels good, wealth thatfeels effortless wealth that
feels effortless.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I love that so much.
You alluded to something veryimportant in the beginning and
you talked about abundance, evenwhen it's not related to money,
and so that made me think of.
There's a quote from a bookthat is on my list to read the
Soul of Money.
I believe it's called, and ittalks about how lack can show up
in places like when we wake upand we're like oh, I didn't get
(05:45):
enough sleep.
So can you talk to me a littlebit about how this lack
mentality shows up in some otherplaces that are not necessarily
related to money, but somethingwe can spot and be like oh wow,
I didn't even realize that wasa lack mentality.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
That's a great
question.
So I define wealth as resource, not money.
Money is absolutely one ofthose resources and a very
important resource currently inour human reality.
Another one of those resourcesis time.
So people who feel like theynever have enough time right,
(06:25):
who feel like there aren'tenough hours in the day and
there is truth that there areonly so many hours in a day,
right Like, let's not pretendthat that's not real and
simultaneously, we can stillstructure our lives in a way
that feels good and that we arenot cramming ourselves in a
to-do list.
(06:45):
That is coming from this beliefthat we are already in lack, so
we better catch up right.
That's where it's the belief oflack in our nervous system that
creates this society where wehave to cram our schedule and
that we feel that the only waywe succeed is through
productivity.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
And recognizing that,
yes, while there are only 24
hours in a day.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
It's really what you
do with that time.
That matters not how much youdo in that time.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
I love that and it
makes me think of the bunny the
bunny was he a bunny In Alice inWonderland?
And he was just always runningaround like I'm late, I'm late,
I'm late for what, I'm late, Idon't know, I don't know what
I'm late for, but I'm late, right, and so you're always
behind, you're always justbehind, and that is such a such
an interesting picture of oursociety, because that's yeah,
(07:41):
we're always like we're alwayslate, we're always running to
the next thing, and so Iabsolutely love that and seeing
the abundance in those in thosemoments, right, because it's.
I love how you put it, thatmoney is just one of the
resources that we use, and evenin business, I tell my clients
you have a choice you can eitherinvest time or you can invest
(08:04):
money, but we're going to haveto make an investment of
something.
So it alludes perfectly to that, to your time also being a
resource.
Can you tell me a little bitabout what part gratitude plays
in this picture?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Gratitude really
opens us up to receive more,
because where we focus, what wefocus on, is where our energy
flows.
And so when you are focused onwhat you have, you are actually
telling your brain this isneuroscience, this is not just
spirituality you're actuallytelling your brain that you have
(08:45):
, you have, I have, I have, Ihave.
I'm so grateful that I have, Ihave.
And so what this does is thisis programming your brain
through your perspective andyour belief structures.
It also programs your cellsthat you have and our reality is
through our perception.
This is quantum mechanics ofunderstanding.
(09:05):
The observer actually changeshow the reality shows up.
You will perceive the worldthrough your belief structures,
world through your beliefstructures.
So when you believe that youhave enough, when you continue
to focus on how much you haveand continue to program your
body and your brain, your cells, with what you have already, you
(09:26):
see the world through the lensof abundance, of gratitude, of
havingness, rather than it's notenough, I need more that it's
so important and it's to notethat it's not that those things
weren't there before.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
What we're doing with
this is we are adjusting our
perception so we can see what'salready there.
The problem is that we'rewearing these glasses of black
and so they're like blacked outright, like they have like black
stuff on them dirt, and so youcan't you can't see, and so
we're kind of clearing off thelens and we're like how can we
see from this perspective?
Um, and that is just sopowerful.
And you mentioned that you havebeen in fight or flight for a
(10:11):
really long time and I canrelate to that.
I'm sure a lot of people in theaudience can relate to that.
And you mentioned that you usebreathwork.
So can you talk to us a littlebit about how that works, if you
have any tips for us on usingbreathwork to get out of fight
or flight?
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yeah, I would like to
back up just a little bit
because actually, before fightor flight, I was in freezer fawn
, which is a lot of a state thatpeople don't recognize.
It's where we are.
We've gone past fight or flight, we're actually shut down and
this is where we're experiencinglife.
It almost as if you know, there's there's no excitement,
there's no real joy, there's nota lot of sensation because we
(10:46):
are.
We're literally in a deep stateof protection in our nervous
system.
So everything has this.
You know, when I was in freezerfauna, honestly, even the
things that I really enjoyedwere kind of like, eh, you know,
I didn't have passion, I didn'thave the aliveness, I didn't
feel like lit up from inside,Right.
(11:08):
And then when I moved myselffrom that state into fight or
flight, that's really where myanxiety lit up.
I never experienced anxiety inall my life.
I never felt like I was ananxious person.
That's because I was shut down,right.
So that feeling of anxiety, that feeling of you know, like
trying to chase something orgrab a hold of something or
attach to something, trying tocontrol your reality, those are
(11:32):
all how fight or flight reallyshows up in humanity and it's
understanding that breath isreally the fundamental way that
we can shift our nervous system.
Okay, so again, this is ascience.
When we breathe into ourbellies, when we breathe
correctly, we, our bellies, goout as we inhale and they drop
(11:55):
back down as we exhale.
When the belly goes out, whenthe belly goes out as we inhale,
the diaphragm drops down andflexes and that hits, it
massages the vagus nerve, theparasympathetic vagus nerve.
And so when we're breathingdeeply into our bellies, we are
(12:17):
naturally activating thatparasympathetic state which is
the rest or digest.
The parasympathic state is thatstate of relaxation that you
feel calm, you feel grounded.
But it's not just calm andgrounded.
It's like a sense of ease andpeace, right.
So what I like to teach is yes,we can absolutely do breath
work where we are doing a veryconscious, very intentional,
(12:41):
different types of breathpattern, and I do that with my
clients.
And the most important thinganybody can do is actually shift
their breath into properbreathing.
The way that we breathe whenwe're born as children.
We're born breathing into ourbellies and then, as our nervous
system starts to becometriggered and we don't process
(13:03):
our trauma, we start to breatheup into our chest and we breathe
shallow and I mean it's ironic,right, Because we're actually
not breathing properly, we'renot actually getting enough air,
and it's interesting that thenwe also believe that we're not
getting enough time, money, love, safety, security.
So it's really about breathinginto your belly and
(13:27):
reprogramming yourself.
So what I recommend is thatpeople take breaks.
You know you can set an alarmon your phone or you know you
can set it up where, every timeyou go to the bathroom, you
practice this, where you justpause and you just take a couple
of nice deep breaths into yourbelly and really begin to notice
(13:51):
how that feels, because mostlikely, if you're in any state
of a triggered nervous system,it actually won't feel good
because it feels tight and itfeels tense and it doesn't feel
like like when I breathe nowinto my belly it's like, oh,
there's so much room there andit feels so expansive and like
(14:11):
it feels good.
But when I first startedbreathing properly again, I
couldn't even breathe into mybelly.
Well, it was like my diaphragmwasn't working and I spent 40
minutes consciously kind ofopening up my belly to breathe
and finally I felt this like ohmy God, that's the biggest
(14:34):
breath I feel like I've taken inlike in years.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
That that is really
cool and it links up with
something that my pain coachtalks about and how like our
core is kind of like a circustent and so everything needs to
be like tensioned in the rightway or the circus tent will fall
.
And so if you have your bellysucked in all the time, your
(15:01):
circus 10 strings they're nottaught and that's gonna hurt
your back, it's gonna hurt likeeverything that's supporting it,
and so even taking these deepbreaths can help you with pain
everywhere else, because I knowthat my back pain it's been
reduced.
I had an accident on a boat andI just I had like a whole thing
but learning to not suck in mybelly and, let you know, letting
(15:24):
my body be as it is naturallyand being able to do those
things, cause if you're suckingin your belly all the time, you
can't take these deep breathsthat you're talking about.
Right, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
And you know that's
also just like a thing, right,
like second year ballet, right, like I think all women feel like
we've done that for sure.
And you know, the other side ofbreathing, again on a
physiological level, is thatwhen you're breathing properly,
you're circulating blood, we'recontracted, we're contracting
(16:00):
blood flow and the blood flowcomes from our prefrontal cortex
and it drains out of ourprefrontal cortex.
That's the space of ourcognitive thinking.
We also find that when we don'tbreathe properly, we don't have
emotional self-regulation, wearen't as connected to our
intuition, our vision and ourimagination and we're just
simply not in our full potential.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
That's important,
Because if you're trying to work
on all of those things that youmentioned regulating my
emotions but you don't startwith breathing, right, I don't
think it matters anything elseyou do for emotional regulation
your body is still going to becalling out for help, right?
It's going to be saying no, Ineed air.
(16:47):
So it doesn't matter how happyyou are, your body still needs
air and you're not giving it toit.
That's so big yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
And it's about
understanding that there's so
many subtle triggers that weexperience as humans that we're
not even aware of.
Right, If you are in any stateof scarcity in your subconscious
mind you won't necessarilyrecognize it.
Somebody will say somethingabout money.
You will not be in a state thatis of heightened decision
(17:16):
making.
You will be in a state that istriggered and is emotional, and
I think anybody could agree thatyou don't want to be making
financial decisions fromemotional dysregulation, right.
You don't want to be making itfrom fear, from anxiety, from
(17:39):
uncertainty.
You want to be making financialdecisions from a place of
clarity, and we do that.
We connect to that first andforemost through the breath.
So it radically affects ourrelationship to money and how we
handle our money every singleday.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
That is.
That is so cool, right?
Because, like, who would havethought that breathing had so
much to do with you know, withyour resources, with money?
But everything is connected.
You know all the things that wedo and everything is energetic,
and so it makes so much senseto break it down to the most
(18:21):
fundamental blocks and be like, well, what is the first, what's
the actually like in thehierarchy of needs?
Right, the first thing, we needair, and that's exactly what
you've done.
You've gone down to the core, and be like, well, what's that
first fundamental need that Ihave?
And it's breathing.
And if we're not doing it right, none of those other things are
going to stack up correctly ontop.
(18:43):
So I think this is just soimportant.
Now talk to me a little bitabout how can we stay in touch
with you.
So my website is alarisagecomand I'm also on social media
Alara Sage Facebook, linkedin, sagecom and I'm also on social
media Alara Sage, facebook, linkedin, instagram, youtube,
(19:06):
okay, and I don't remember fromyour intake form, but was there
a gift that you had availablefor the audience?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
I have both my
podcast, my professional podcast
that's called Wealth Embodied, and then I just recently opened
up something that's really fun.
It's called Living Wisdom andit's really a secret podcast.
It's really just informal andit's where I'm in the moment of
these beautiful epiphanies andthese insights, and I bring this
(19:29):
through as well as my ownpersonal experience.
I bring this through in aTelegram channel so I can
definitely share that link, because it is really very
personal and intimate and veryconnected that I enjoy very much
.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
Oh, that sounds
amazing.
And, as always, guys, all ofthose links are going to be
available down in the show notes.
Now, alara, as we are wrappingup, I would like to know what is
one of your biggest tips, whatis one of your biggest
strategies that you have for myaudience?
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Pause and breathe
regularly throughout your day.
I promise you, if you implementthis strategy, you will
recognize how you're beginningto become aware more clearly of
your life and make more grounded, clear decisions with regards
to your life and your wealth.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
I love that.
I love that so much.
And, guys, it's not, there's nobig secret out there.
There's no like complicatedformula.
When we're talking aboutabundance, when we're talking
about success, we're talkingabout the fundamentals, right,
and and like it sounds sillywhen I say it like this, but
breathing is one of the mostimportant fundamentals, and just
(20:43):
learning how we can usesomething that we already do
every day just a little bitbetter, right?
How can we improve just alittle bit?
And just taking notice of justhow you're breathing in and out
can make such a huge differencein your life.
This has been absolutelyamazing.
Alara, thank you so much forjoining me today and we will
(21:03):
catch you guys next time on thenext episode of Overcome
Yourself, the podcast.
Bye.
