The Legally Speaking segment discusses the California Supreme Court case-Ruelas v. Alameda County-a 2024 decision that ruled people in county jails, presumed innocent who have not been convicted of any crime, (a) can be forced to work for private for-profit contractors within the jail; and (b) are not entitled to be paid the minimum wage or overtime pay. Alameda County jail inmates' pay is limited to .25 an hour maximum.
