But there may not be anything to save down here beneath the surface. I’d like to take you to Long Beach, California, just as autumn is beginning to fade. The air and ocean are indistinguishably grey and paint a bright canvas against the ocean liners docked in Long Beach Harbor. There are many ships floating here on the peninsula - some are only sleeping until summer, but only the Queen Mary is dead in the water - stationary and rusted. It is decidedly not tourist season.
