Are You Ready for What Happens When You Die?

Death is not something most of us want to think about, yet Scripture makes it clear—eternity is written on every heart. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that God has set eternity in the human heart, while James reminds us that life is a vapor that quickly vanishes (James 4:14). None of us are promised tomorrow. Whether through sudden accidents, illness, or natural causes, death can come unexpectedly, and with it comes the unavoidable reality of eternity.

The Bible teaches that God's Word is "living and active" (Hebrews 4:12), not just an ancient book, but a divine revelation that speaks truth into our lives today. It reveals that eternity is certain, and that every person will live forever after death—either in God's presence or separated from Him in hell. Hebrews 9:27 declares, "It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment."

But God has made a way through Jesus Christ, who alone died, rose again, and is alive forevermore. Believers in Him receive eternal life, while unbelievers face judgment. Jesus Himself warned to "be on the alert, for you do not know the day nor the hour" (Matthew 25:13). That is why the Bible urges us to be ready now, not later. There are no second chances beyond the grave.

This message also explores the often-avoided doctrine of election, showing from Scripture that salvation is not based on human effort but on God's mercy and sovereign choice. Yet we are commanded to spread the gospel, because faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17).

The question remains: are you ready for what happens when you die? Eternity is forever. There are no do-overs or second chances for anyone who does not accept Christ before they die.
