Thank you.
SPEAKER_00 (00:08):
Hello and welcome to
A Path to Redemption, the
podcast.
My name is Daniel Aron, and justremember this simple truth.
The Father loves you, Jesusloves you, and the Holy Spirit
loves you.
Once again, I hope that you'vehad a great week.
I hope that you've had time tospend with the Lord in prayer
and also in his word.
Again, I cannot stress thisenough.
It is imperative that we stayintimate with him, that we stay
about his business, that weremain faithful over all things,
(00:29):
because at the end of the day, that's our responsibility,
right?
For the salvation that he hasgiven us, for the work that he
has done on his cross, is tomake sure that we stay faithful,
faithful over everythingfaithful over the things that
he's given us no matter what sojust make sure that you're doing
that make sure that's where yourfocus is make sure that that's
where where God wants you to bebecause at the end of the day if
(00:51):
we're not faithful over the fewthings he's not going to make us
rulers over many so just makesure that you focus on that make
sure you stay faithful over thethings that God has given you
including your relationship withhim it's imperative that we do
that it's just crazy how muchthings are lining up again I
know I keep saying it every weekbut we're Looking at scripture
being fulfilled right now.
Turkey's on the move.
(01:12):
There's a lot of things goingon, particularly in Syria as
well, which is reallyinteresting.
Relative to Micah 5, also knownas the Antichrist, being called
the Assyrian.
There's just a whole lot goingon.
So make sure that you'rewatching.
Make sure that you're praying.
We know that as we see thesethings that our redemption draws
nigh.
It's our responsibility to lookup and to be looking for him,
(01:34):
but also to make sure that wekeep our hand upon the plow and
that we move forward.
Amen.
So last week we talked about theGarden of Gethsemane and Jesus
praying.
Now that everything is settledand his mind is made up, it's
time for him to go through withthat decision.
So it's now time for him to goto the cross.
And all of that starts with thebetrayal.
(01:56):
And you know, I always teachthat we have to have our mind
made up before we go throughwhat God will have us to go
through.
And this is really what drivesus and will settle us regardless
of what happens.
We're about to see that play outwith Jesus here.
So make sure that you have yourmind made up.
Make sure that you have allthose things set and ready to
go.
And that you know that you'regoing to go with him no matter
(02:18):
the cost and no matter theconsequence.
Because Jesus told us.
Jesus told us straight up tocount the cost and make sure
that we're worthy.
And that's what we have to do.
Amen.
So with that being said, justsome housekeeping items before
we jump into scripture.
All of our scripture comes fromthe New King James Version.
If you'd like a copy of the NewKing James Bible, feel free to
drop me a note at path toredemption ohio at gmail.com
(02:40):
more than happy to get theseinto your hands i'm also my
books out grace abounds if you'dlike a copy of that feel free to
drop me a note again at path toredemption ohio at gmail.com and
then also don't take my word forit make sure that you are
studying to show yourselfapproved on the god make sure
you are putting in the work amenso with that being said let's go
(03:01):
ahead and jump into scriptureand in matthew 26 matthew 26 47
through 49 says and while he wasHe's still speaking.
(03:38):
1 Corinthians, 1 Thessalonians,Romans, he says it in 1
Corinthians, and Peter tells usin 1 Peter.
You know, in the Old Testament, the sign was the same.
Absalom, in order to win thehearts of the people before he
rebelled against his fatherDavid, would actually put out
his hand and kiss whoever camebefore him.
And he would say, oh, that I wasking of Israel and that I could
(04:00):
pass judgment.
This is after he had alreadybeen banished and come back and
all these other things.
It was just a terrible terriblething so at the end of the day
though you see this and you seeall these things happening the
kiss being the meaning of thereverence and now we see Jesus
being ultimately betrayed bythat point of reverence you know
(04:23):
Psalm 2 which is the psalm aboutthe Messiah's triumphant kingdom
says in verse 11 and 12 servethe Lord with fear and rejoice
with trembling kiss the son lesthe be angry then you perish in
the way when his wrath iskindled but a little blessed are
those who all of So that sign, again, the reverence, and it's
(04:43):
the sign that the king used todo.
If you go back even to the oldtimes, the king would put out
their hand and then you wouldkiss the hand as a sign of
reverence to the kingship, as asign of reverence to the
position, to the person that wasthere.
So here we see the sign ofreverence turn into a sign of
betrayal.
And as we discussed in the storyof Judas, Satan had entered into
(05:04):
him.
We see in John 13, 2, where itsays, And the supper being
ended, the devil having alreadyput into the heart of Judas
Iscariot, Simon's son, to betrayhim.
So we see that the devil had putthat into his heart, but later
on in John 13, 26-27, we seeJesus answered, It is he whom I
(05:25):
shall give a piece of bread whenI have dipped it.
And having dipped the bread, hegave it to Judas Iscariot, the
son of Simon.
Now after the piece of bread,Satan entered him.
Then Jesus said to him, What youdo, do it quickly.
Why is this important?
You know, it's just like Satanto take something that was meant
to be the sign of reverence anduse it as a sign of betrayal.
(05:49):
Everything that God does, Satantries to twist and change into
its opposite.
In essence, Satan was greetingChrist as the teacher or rabbi
with the reverent kiss only tobetray him.
It's kind of like this, whensomeone comes in for a hug and
then betrays him and stabs theknife in the back.
That's kind of exactly what washappening here is that, yo,
(06:12):
rabbi, rabbi, and thenultimately kisses him.
And then the soldiers then goand take Jesus Christ.
And verse 50 is reallyinteresting.
The very following verse whereit says, but Jesus said to him,
friend, why have you come?
Then they came and laid hands onJesus and took him.
If we understand what John says,Jesus is saying this to either
(06:34):
Judas or Satan.
Either way, neither one of themwas really his friend in the
context of what we And we sawthat Judas was a thief and a
devil from the time of hischoosing.
And we know what Satan was andthe betrayal of God and the
rebellion of God back in thefall and his fall.
So why does Jesus call themfriend here?
(06:54):
And this was not his desire forJudas or Satan.
Jesus was there in thebeginning.
He was part of the creation ofLucifer.
He was part of the creation ofJudas.
He still has love for them both.
Yet they made their decision andnow here they are in the garden
of Gethsemane betraying Christ.
It was not only the man of Judasthat did this, but Satan as
(07:14):
well.
This is what happens when manaligns with Satan.
This will happen again, and itis happening as we approach the
end of this age, and willultimately usher in the return
of Christ.
You see, at the end of the day, they're betraying him.
And Paul even tells us, he said, look, if they had known what
they were going to do incrucifying Jesus Christ, they
(07:36):
would have never done it.
If they knew what was going tohappen, if they knew what was
going to be When all of thatwent down, they would not have
done it.
So it was after this that theylaid hands on him and took him,
and now he's in the hands of theSanhedrin.
So after this, in Matthew 26, 51through 44, it says, Look, we
(08:13):
know from John 18 that the onethat Jesus was with was Peter
and the servant was Malchus.
And we know from Luke that Jesushealed his ear in front of all
of them.
And I find this so interesting.
Here they are.
They come out.
They're with clubs.
(08:33):
They have all this stuff andswords.
And they're coming to arrestJesus who has been nothing but
peaceful at no point in time hashe ever done any type of
violence other than throwing themoney changers out of the temple
which you know his father'shouse must be a place of prayer
but at the end of the day hereyou have Jesus he sat in the
temple he's taught them he'sdone all this stuff and here
(08:56):
they are about to arrest him andPeter cuts off the ear of
Malchus and according to toscripture you know Jesus kneels
down and ultimately heals him atthe time of the arrest.
And while they're still runningaround trying to arrest him,
Jesus goes and heals his earback.
(09:17):
And I just find it fascinatingbecause if you had seen the ear
cut off, you see your brotherMalchus in pain, and then you
see Jesus reattach it, shouldn'tyou at some point stop and
think, ah, maybe I shouldn't dothis.
But at the end of the day, whatdo they do?
They still do it.
And that's the kind of thing isthat it was a come to time, the
appointed time for Jesus toultimately go to the And Jesus
(09:40):
tells us in Matthew 26, 52-54why this was done this way.
(10:09):
And then...
And that's a key here, right?
He says exactly what he meanshere.
He says that he can bring out 12legions if he wanted to.
He could sit down, he could callthe legions of angels, he could
wipe out the face of the earthif he wanted to.
So why didn't he?
He made up his mind in thegarden that he was going through
with this and that he was goingto see the scripture fulfilled.
(10:32):
He was full of God, fully God,yes, but he was also fully
human.
He struggled just as any mandoes as he struggled with the
decision as we saw in thegarden.
But here he was decisive.
The scripture had to befulfilled and he had to bring
about the salvation of theworld.
So here he also said that if youlive by the sword, you are going
to die by the sword.
(10:53):
Jesus here is saying that we arenot to take matters into our own
hands.
We know that in Deuteronomy 8.3that Moses told Israel, so he
humbled you, allowed you tohunger, and fed you with manna,
which you did not know, nor didyour fathers know, that he might
make you know that man And Jesusquoted this when he was tempted
(11:18):
in the wilderness by Satan.
He knew this.
You see, we are to live by theword of God.
That's why I always say, nomatter what happens, no matter
what we hear, no matter thethings we go through, we have to
make sure that it lines up withscripture.
If it doesn't line up withscripture, we have to throw it
out.
That's what we have to do.
Now, Jesus goes on.
And we know that we're supposedto live by the word of God.
(11:40):
But we're also supposed to liveby faith.
(12:10):
Recall the former days in whichafter you were illuminated, you
endured a great struggle withsufferings, partly while you
were made a spectacle both byreproaches and tribulations, and
partly while you becamecompanions of those who were so
treated.
For you had compassion on me andmy chains, and joyfully accepted
the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better
(12:32):
and enduring possession foryourselves in heaven.
Therefore, do not cast away yourconfidence, which has great
reward, for you have need ofendurance so that after you have
done the will of God, you mayreceive the promise.
For yet a little while, and hewho is coming will come and will
not tarry.
Now the just shall live byfaith, but if anyone draws back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.
(12:54):
But we are not of those whodraws back to perdition, but of
those who believe to the savingof the soul.
You see, we are to live and towalk by faith.
We are to live according to thescripture.
You know, and we're not, we'resupposed to do this and not by
what we see in front of us.
Paul tells us in the context ofIn 2 Corinthians 5, 6-8, he
(13:18):
says, But we are justified bythat faith and must put all
(13:44):
trust in him no matter what thecircumstances are.
And that's not an easy thing tosay or an easy thing to do.
The only way to do that is to gothrough the trials and
tribulations of life untilultimately we can see Jesus and
that we can live in the trustthat we have for him.
That's built up.
You don't trust someone rightout of the gate in your
relationship.
(14:05):
That trust is built and thattrust continues on.
But here's the thing I'd tellyou is that I agree with David.
When he said, I have been youngand I have been old and I've
never seen the righteousforsaken nor his seed begging
bread.
Now, God may not answereverything according to the way
that you want it, but at the endof the day, it'll be the answer
you need.
And that's something else thathas to happen.
Our iniquity, our concept ofself, the things that we want
(14:28):
have to go a certain way.
Then it has to go the way of thegrave and death and the
crucifixion of Jesus so thatultimately it can be resurrected
into the life of who he is andwhat he wants to accomplish in
our lives.
So it was after this that headdressed his captors, though,
which I find really interesting.
And it says in Matthew 26,55-56, This is really
(15:08):
interesting, saying you havecome out against a robber, John
10, 1-3 says this, All who evercame before me are thieves and
(15:42):
robbers, but the sheep did nothear them.
I am the door.
If anyone enters by me, he willbe saved and will go in and find
pasture.
Now the thief does not comeexcept to steal and kill and
destroy.
I have come that you may havelife and that they may have it
more abundantly.
See, here Jesus clearly saysthat he's the door and that
(16:03):
everyone that does not come fromhim is a thief and a robber.
But during the arrest, they cameto him...
You see, the thief and therobber is any other way to God
other than Jesus.
That's the law of Moses.
It's all the false gods.
(16:23):
You see, they quote this whenthey talk about this as though
it's Satan that comes to kill, steal, and destroy.
And yes, all the falsedoctrines, all the doctrines of
devils do come from Satan, butit's those who teach other ways
to get to the Father and theSon.
other than through Jesus Christand other through the grace of
Jesus Christ.
You know, it's important that weunderstand this because we have
(16:46):
got to make sure that whateverit is that we believe is rooted
and grounded in Jesus Christ andin the grace that he has.
Because at the end of the day,we have to make sure that our
faith, that we live according tothe faith and that we live
according to the work that Jesusdid on that cross and according
to the word of God.
(17:06):
You know, in season five of thispodcast, I go through Zechariah
5 and that lines up with this.
They were trying to bring thecurse that goes out over the
whole world onto Jesus.
That's what they were trying todo.
But Jesus bore that curse thathe may truly become the door.
And it's only because of thatthat the writer of Hebrews was
able to say in Hebrews 4, 14through 16, seeing then that we
(17:29):
have a great high priest who haspassed through the heavens,
Jesus, the son of God, let ushold fast our confession for we
do not have a high priest whocannot sympathize with our
weaknesses, but was in allpoints tempted as we are, yet
without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly tothe throne of grace that we may
obtain mercy to find grace tohelp in the time of need.
(17:52):
Because of the work of JesusChrist, we can now go boldly to
that throne of grace.
But here in the garden, theytried to say that the door was
the robber.
But in all actuality, the doorwas never the robber.
The door was what brought usinto relationship with the
Father And him being the door, the Father can then call his
sheep and go back to them and wecan be reconciled back through
(18:15):
him, through the Holy Spirit.
So all of that becomes importanthere because, again, Satan is
counterfeiting this.
He is counterfeiting exactlywhat it was.
You see, Jesus taught openly inthe temple.
He says that.
He's like, look, I've taught inthe temple all this whole time
and you're just now coming to meas a robber.
And what they did, though, isthat while Jesus taught openly,
(18:38):
they arrested him.
And this is a key point, becausethe people would listen to his
teaching, and he was beforethem, but because the Pharisees
were scared of the people, theydid not take him.
Now that's going to changedrastically here soon as well.
Why?
Because ultimately the peopleare going to turn on Jesus
Christ, and they're going towant to ultimately have him
(19:03):
crucified.
And don't forget that it wasJesus that said that whatever we
do in secret, God will do it.
will reward openly now he wastalking about prayer but at the
end of the day the principle isstill the same if we things are
done secretly he's going toreward it openly and that's
exactly what he's going to dowith the pharisees because even
though they arrested him youknow at night under the darkness
(19:24):
of night they will crucify himbefore everyone and i think that
that's a key here but jesus saysclearly that that this was all
done that scripture might befulfilled they could only take
him when the time was rightmeaning that when the passover
was come because he had tofulfill the Passover sacrifice
for all of us.
Until then, they could not touchhim.
(19:46):
Now, the final part of thisscripture is this, is that the
disciples forsook him and fled.
We knew that this was coming.
We knew this was coming whenJesus told them at the Last
Supper earlier in this chapter,Matthew 26, where it says,
Matthew 26 and 31, then Jesussaid to them, all of you will be
made to stumble because of methis night, for it is written, I
(20:07):
will strike the sheath They allforsook him, despite them
telling him that they wouldnever leave.
They stood up in their arroganceand their iniquity.
Ah, master, ah, rabbi, we'renever going to leave you.
But the scripture had to befulfilled that when the shepherd
would be struck, that the sheepwould scatter.
(20:27):
And ultimately, it was thefulfillment of scripture.
But I want to point outsomething here.
They abandoned their friend, whothey walked with for three plus
years.
At this point, it didn't matterthat he was the Messiah.
At this point, the miracles thathe did didn't really matter.
All that mattered was theirlives before the chief priests.
And that's the way that we canget as well, where, you know
(20:50):
what, man, all of a sudden thesalvation doesn't matter.
All of a sudden, the things ofJesus don't really matter.
What matters is exactly what'sright in front of me, whether
it's your life or whatever itmay be that takes that highest
point between you and JesusChrist.
And that's why it's importantthat we make sure that we are
casting down all of thosethings.
(21:11):
Casting down all the things thatstand between before us and
Jesus.
And it can be anything.
It can honestly be anything.
People put a lot of things on apedestal.
People put a ton of things on apedestal.
And it really doesn't matterwhat it is.
It can be family.
It can be friends.
It can be wealth.
It can be riches.
It can be health.
It can be a ton of differentthings, right?
(21:32):
But at the end of the day, ifthat stands between you and God
and Jesus Christ, He is going tofocus on it he is going to
address it and he is going totake it and you know I've told
the Lord myself Lord if there'sanything that stands between me
and you go ahead and take careof it take it down take it down
and deal with it that's what Ineed you to do because I don't
(21:52):
want there to be anythingbetween me and the Lord but
that's a hard thing that's areally hard thing but all of us
have to walk this path all of ushave to do that and all of us
have to figure out what it isthat is keeping that is staying
between us and the Lord Samething with the disciples.
At this point in time, it wastheir own iniquity and their own
lives because they were worriedabout it.
(22:14):
They didn't want to getcaptured.
They didn't want to getcrucified the way that Jesus was
going.
So they ran and they ran andthey ran and it happened.
But here's the thing I'm goingto tell you is that I don't
blame them one bit.
You see, they did not have thesalvation.
Jesus hadn't died and beenresurrected before yet.
They didn't have the Holy Spiriteither, which the Holy Spirit is
that gives you this drive insideof you where you just can't
(22:37):
stop.
You just keep going and goingand going because it's like it
pushes you even when yourphysical body and your mental
capacity is done it justcontinues to push you you know
and Paul tells us this is thatwhen he says the same spirit
that raised Christ from the deadwill quicken your mortal body
and he does in the context ofthe resurrection but at the end
of the day it will still push uspush us and keep us it's like
(23:00):
this inner strength inside of usthat we don't know where it came
from but they didn't have thatat this point the disciples
didn't all they have is theiriniquity and What changes us is
Christ in the Holy Spirit.
It causes us to go forward nomatter what.
So I want to challenge youtoday.
One, if you don't know JesusChrist, first and foremost, make
sure you know him.
Make sure you ask him into yourheart.
(23:21):
Make sure that you say, Lord,I'm a sinner, and that you
repent, and that you walk andallow Jesus to make you a new
creature in Christ.
You don't need anyone to leadyou through that.
That's all you got to do is justbelieve in your heart, confess
with your mouth, and make surethat you ask him to come into
your life.
That's all And then begin tolove him.
Begin to love him.
Get into scripture.
(23:41):
Pray.
Talk to him.
It's going to feel weird atfirst, but that's the way every
relationship is.
When you first meet someone,it's awkward.
You don't know what to say.
You don't know what to talkabout.
But then when you know them overtime, it becomes second nature.
And you want to talk to them andyou desire to be around them.
So at the end of the day, youstart there.
Then make sure and ask for thebaptism of the Holy Spirit.
(24:03):
And look, I know that there aremany different denominations
that listen to this podcast, andthat's okay.
But I want you to know thatthere are many different
denominations I'm Pentecostal.
You guys all know that.
You know how I feel about thegiftings and the Holy Spirit
with the evidence of speaking intongues.
It's a free gift.
It is a free gift.
Is it crucial to salvation?
No, absolutely not.
Just because you're not baptizedin the Holy Spirit doesn't mean
(24:25):
you're not saved.
It doesn't mean you don't lovethe Lord.
It doesn't mean any of that.
But for me, I need the HolySpirit.
I need it to continue to push meand to give me that inner drive
to keep going when things arevery difficult and And I need
that baptism of the Holy Spiritin my life.
So I would challenge you to askhim for it.
Ask him for it.
Just ask him.
Say, Lord, if what thatpodcaster is talking about is
(24:48):
true, then I want a piece of it.
I'm asking you for the free giftof the baptism of your Holy
Spirit and see what happens.
And then just believe.
That's all it is.
That's all it takes.
So at the end of the day, theydidn't have that at this point.
And they were scattered.
They were scattered to thedifferent ways.
There were so many things thathappened.
Leading up to the betrayal ofJesus In the Garden of
(25:11):
Gethsemane And so many thingsthat happened at the Garden of
Gethsemane And next week we'regoing to look at the Sanhedrin
And how they began to interviewJesus How they began to question
him And how they're going tohave false witnesses And all of
these other things that aregoing to happen Because it's
just a sham It becomes akangaroo court if you will And
it becomes a sham of it And itwas just clear that they just
(25:31):
wanted to kill him They werejust looking for an excuse
Because he was challenging themAnd he was going to ultimately
usher in a new dispensation.
No longer was it going to be thedispensation of law, but it was
going to be the dispensation ofgrace in the church age for the
next 2,000 years.
So with all of that being said, make sure that you're spending
time with the Lord.
Make sure that you're fosteringyour relationship.
(25:52):
I just cannot stress thatenough.
Just make sure that you do that.
But ultimately, until next time, just remember this simple truth.
The Father loves you, Jesusloves you, and the Holy Spirit
loves you.
God bless.
