Hello and welcome to A Path to Redemption, the
podcast.
My name is Daniel Aron, and justremember the simple truth.
The Father loves you, Jesusloves you, and the Holy Spirit
loves you.
Once again, I hope that you'vehad a great week.
I hope that you've had time tospend with the Lord in prayer
and also in his scripture.
Again, I know I say it everysingle time, but I truly believe
the day is quickly approachingwhere we are going to see him
come from the clouds and thatwe're going to see the return of

(00:29):
Christ.
So just make sure that you'refostering that relationship and
being intimate with him andtelling others about him.
You know, and I think that's theimportant key is that I'm not
just kind of taught this lessonat our Wednesday night church.
And I really believe if you lookthrough the parables at the end
of Matthew 24 and into Matthew25, there's really three main
points here that Jesus tries tomake.

(00:49):
And it's be faithful, beintimate, and then make sure
that you are advancing thekingdom, whatever that may be,
whatever that calling is that hehas in your life.
You've got to make sure that youare advancing the kingdom.
And I think that it's importantthat we realize that because if
we do those three things, thenthere's not going to be any
chance of us not getting caughtup and not going with him.

The question is, the people thataren't faithful or weren't
intimate or weren't advancingthe kingdom, those are the ones
that Jesus casts out in theouter darkness, which is what I
truly believe is the tribulationperiod.
So at the end of the day, ifwe're doing the work that God
has called us to do, then we'renot going to have any issues
whatsoever.
He just has to find us workingand being faithful and intimate

with him.
So that's why I start out everysingle week with this, just
because you have to.
You have to be faithful You'vegot to be intimate and you've
got to make sure that you areadvancing the kingdom.
That's the responsibility of anybeliever.
And that's doing the basics andthe foundational things that we
are to do.
Amen.
So we're going to continue ourlook in this today.

(01:53):
We are going to look at the lastsupper.
And last week we looked atJudas, the profile of Judas, who
he was, how he betrayed Christ.
And now we are finally here.
We are at the last supper, whichis going to kick off kind of the
passion of Jesus Christ.
And before we get into this, acouple of housekeeping items.

That's how you stay faithfulthat's how you stay intimate and
that's how you continue toadvance the kingdom when you
have a close personalrelationship with jesus christ
through prayer and throughscripture and again i stress
that and i think that it'simportant because we have to
have that especially as we goforward so we're going to take a

look at the last supper todayand before we kind of get into
this the last supper is a is akey part here it's the
celebration of the passoverseder and the passover being a
representation of jesus and thework that he had here and um I
don't think that it can beunderstated where Jesus knew
where he was going to go at thispoint.
He's literally celebrating thePassover that is the foreshadow

(03:18):
of who he is.
And I want to set thatfoundation before we kind of go
in.
So let's go ahead and jump inhere.
Matthew 26, 17 through 19 says,Now on the first day of the
Feast of Unleavened Bread, thedisciples came to Jesus, saying
to him, Where do you want us toprepare for you to eat the
Passover?
And he said, Go into the city toa certain man and say to him,
The teacher said, So thedisciples did as Jesus had

directed them, and they preparedthe Passover.
So the culmination of 4,000years of human history was
coming to the single mostimportant act in human history,
and that is the death andresurrection of Jesus Christ.
In Matthew, Mark, and Luke, wesee the same story.
There was a man that is notmentioned who, his name isn't
mentioned, but that had a guestroom that was fully furnished

(04:07):
and ready for the Mass For Jesusto have a final meal with his
disciples.
When it is our time to go aboutour work, to do exactly what it
is that God has called us to do,the provision is going to be
there.
When it is time, God's provisionwill be there.
This is a demonstration of that.
He told the disciples this inMatthew 6, 25-34.
Therefore I say to you, do notworry about your life, what you

(04:30):
will eat or what you will drink,nor about your body, what you
will put on.
Is not life more than food andthe body more than clothing?
Look at the bird So why do youworry about clothing?

(04:51):
Consider the lilies of thefield, how they grow.
They neither toil nor spin.
And yet I say to you that evenSolomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
Now if God so clothes the grassof the field, which today is and
tomorrow is thrown into theoven, will he not much more
clothe you?
O you of little faith.

(05:38):
So what happened is that Jesustells them to go to this certain
man, and the man already has aroom ready.
All they have to do is goforward and prepare the
Passover.
They still had to prepare themeal, and then ultimately for
the move of the master.
God will always make provisionfor the work, but those that are
to prepare the table for peopleto eat must do so.

(06:00):
And I think about this in termsof ministry quite a bit, right?
The study that I do, the notesthat I do, the praying that I do
around what to teach on whetherit's a Wednesday night at church
or even on this podcast and howto put it together.
All of that is me going forwardand preparing that meal,
preparing that meal that peoplemay eat of it.
And that's what the discipleshad to do.

(06:21):
You know, we have to prepare thebread, prepare the meal for
people to eat and allow Jesusand the Holy Spirit to serve it
up.
See, the provision has beenmade, but the work is the study.
It's the notes.
It's the prayer time.
It's the intimacy with Christ.
All these things matter in thepreparation.
When we make You see, those ofus that teach and preach must

(06:47):
always realize the reverencethat is needed when we get
behind the pulpit or the podium.
You have to understand, I amgoing to be held responsible for
everything that has come out ofmy mouth and anything that I've
ever preached or taught.
And that comes with a reverencethat has to be there.
We have to know that it's fromGod.
We have to know that it isbiblically accurate that is

(07:09):
spiritually accurate.
And the only way to do that isto make sure that you're putting
in the work.
And that's why I value thatwork.
That is so important.
That's why I lead every singletime here.
But I want you to know thatwhatever your calling is with
God, the provision's alreadybeen made.
The only thing that he's waitingfor is for us to tell us, hey,
go and find that provision andthen make the meal.

(07:31):
And that's what we have to do.
And just wait on him andeverything's already been taken
care of as long as you'rewalking according So, Matthew
26, 20-25 continues on and says,Okay, before we continue on, I

want to look at Luke 22, 15here, because as Jesus sat down
with the disciples, this is whathe said.
He said, Now, I want to put thisin the context here.

(08:33):
Jesus knew he was going to thecross.
He knew that he was going to goand die for the sins of the
world he knew that he was goingto have to go down to hell take
the keys to to death and helland that he was going to have to
come back up and resurrect heknew all of this was going to
happen yet he longed or desiredfervently to have this last

(08:53):
supper with his disciples youknow oftentimes when we are
about to go through one of thehardest things in our lives or
when we're going to we know thatsomething's coming and that that
it's time for us to go or maybeit's those loved ones that that
have already passed on and andare already in that city.
Maybe it's them, but they wanttheir family around.
They want those that are closestto them around.

(09:15):
And the disciples were theclosest to Jesus.
And they're the ones that hewanted.
He desired to spend these lastmoments with him.
And I think that we need totreasure that.
We need to treasure thosemoments that we have with him.
Because unfortunately,everything that has a beginning
must have an end.
And that's the way it is.
In fact, Solomon said that moreblessed is the end of a thing

(09:37):
than the beginning.
So, we've got to make sure thatwe are cherishing those moments
and doing that as well, just asJesus did, because it was a
fervent desire, even though heknew he was going to die, that
he wanted to spend that time ofintimacy with his disciples.
So anyway, I just wanted to kindof hit on that, because I think
that gives really good contextinto exactly what was going on
here.

(09:57):
But going back to Matthew, weknow that this is about Judas,
and we talked about him lastweek, so we won't go into that.
But I do want to say this, inJohn, Mark, and Luke, the fact
that Jesus was Now, why is thatimportant?
Judas had partaken of the Lord'sSupper while his heart was far
from the Lord.
And this is what Paul said whenhe put down this warning in 1

(10:21):
Corinthians 11, 27-32.
In the same manner, For he whoeats and drinks in an unworthy

(10:56):
manner eats and drinks judgmentto himself.
So we must partake worthily.

(11:25):
So what does that mean?
First off, we have to believe inhim.
We have to be saved through ourfaith.
It is only in his righteousnessthat we are even worthy to be
partakers of it.
And it is only through him thatwe can do anything.
So we have to be saved.
We have to recognize who he is.
The second is that we must havea relationship with him.
You see, Judas walked with him,talked with him, but his heart

(11:47):
was far from him.
We have to understand that.
We can do church and we can dothe work of the ministry, but if
we aren't intimate with arelationship with him, then we
are not worthy.
We're not worthy of him.
We are not worthy to partake ofhis death.
You see, nothing can be betweenus and him.
If that's the case, then wepartake unworthily and the
judgment of him comes upon us.
There is no iniquity and thereis So think about this for a

(12:20):
second.
Judas walked with him, talkedwith him, but yet his heart was
far from him and sat there andpartook of the Last Supper.
We can partake of it as wellwith our hearts being just as
far.
That's why Paul says examineyourself.
Judge yourself.
Judge the actions.
Judge where your heart is.
Make sure you are intimate withhim.
Ask for forgiveness.
and walk through it.

(12:40):
But here's the other thing too,is that yes, Christ will forgive
us.
He is just to forgive us when wesin.
He is just for all those things.
But you can't just go before himand say, Lord, forgive me,
forgive me, forgive me for doingthe same thing 800 times.
If you are struggling with acertain area, ask for
deliverance in it.
Ask the Lord to remove it fromyou.
Ask the Lord to deliver fromyou.

(13:00):
Look, that's how I was deliveredfrom drinking and smoking, was I
was on the front porch, andyou've heard this story, where I
was smoking a cigarette and Ilooked out I said, Lord, you
don't want me to do thesethings, but I can't stop.
And I said it in earnestsincerity.
And I didn't hide anything fromhim.
And I said, Lord, I cannot stop.
You're going to have to take itfrom me.
And that's what he did.

(13:20):
The next day, he took it fromme.
And that was it.
So at the end of the day, that'swhat we have to do.
When we judge ourselves, wejudge that, look, what we're
doing does not align with thescripture, does not align with
Jesus Christ.
So ask him to take it.
Ask him to change you.
And he will.
He is just and faithful to doBut as we begin to talk about

(13:40):
the Lord's Supper, it's possiblefor people to partake and not be
worthy to do so because theyhave not examined themselves the
way that Paul talks about.
And I want to do that basicteaching because it's clear.
When you partake of the Lord'sSupper, when you partake of the
bread and the grape juice orwhatever it is, then at the end
of the day, you are partaking ofthe death of Jesus Christ.

(14:04):
And I want to be clear aboutthat.
Because what do we do?
We have to take up our cross andfollow him well I've told you
before that that cross we aregoing to be nailed onto that as
parts of our carnality die butwe cannot bring carnality into
the redemptive work of JesusChrist it's not possible the
flesh will always be an enmityagainst God that is a fact and

(14:25):
that's why we must judgeourselves and make sure that we
have that relationship and thatwe are saved by grace through
faith not by works lest any manshould boast so with that all
being said let's look at thelast supper itself Matthew 27
26-30 says, He took the breadand he broke it.

(15:18):
He said, And while I read thatscripture, because we partake of

(15:51):
his body as a picture of what wewill become when we take up our
cross and follow him.
When we take that up, it leadsto the same place.
It leads to the crucifixion ofour flesh.
It leads to the persecution bythe world to us.
Why?
Because we refuse to conform tothis world And that's a key
here.
When we partake of his body,we're partaking of the death,

(16:13):
the beatings, the bruisings, allof those things that he did,
that he went through as well.
Why?
So that ultimately ourcarnality, our carnality and our
flesh can go through the sameexact thing that it might be
changed into the likeness ofJesus Christ.
Let it be beaten, let it be torndown, then let it be nailed to
that cross so that ultimately itcan resurrect into who he is.

(16:35):
You see, 1 John 3, 1-3 says, Itsays, is an area of my life I

(17:09):
need you to take care of I needthe Holy Spirit to put me on
that cross and to do that that'swhy Paul said in Romans 12 1 I
beseech you therefore brethrenby the mercies of the Almighty
God to offer yourselves a livingsacrifice holy and acceptable
unto the Lord which is yourreasonable service it is our
responsibility to offerourselves up to him and allow
him to do the work of the highpriest which is to cut off the

(17:32):
parts that are unworthy and toand burn them on the altar and
offer us to offer our flesh andour carnal And that's so that we
can be changed into hislikeness.
You see, Christ was theforeshadowing, the breaking of
his body on the cross.
You see, iniquity has to bedealt with, with the breaking of
the flesh and carnality.
There is no other way becauseiniquity is the root of all that

(17:55):
we are.
So at the end of the day, if wedon't do that, or if we don't
allow the Holy Spirit to dothat, I should say, then we
really are not going to moveforward with Jesus Christ.
You see, Paul said in Galatians,5.16-25 Just as I told you in

(18:41):
time past, that those whopractice such things will not
inherit the kingdom of God.

(19:08):
The only way for that to happenis for your carnality and your
flesh to be crucified to thecross of Jesus Christ.
So then that way we can walk inthe Spirit.
That's what Paul is talkingabout.
And that's what the breadforeshadows.
You see, Christ also blessed thebread before he broke it.
The breaking of the body was fora purpose.
It was the fulfillment of Isaiah53, 3-5.

(19:30):
He is despised and rejected bymen, a man of sorrows and
acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, ourfaces from him.
And he was despised.
You see, all healing comes fromthe breaking of his body,

(19:56):
spiritual, mental, and physical.
All healing.
Oftentimes, the reason that weworry, the reasons that we get
sick, the reasons that we seesome of these things is because
we take on that worry and thatstrife on ourselves.
and our body was never meant tohave to take on that our body
was meant to cast our care uponhim that cares for us you know
and you've heard the thingspeople talk about how stress can

(20:17):
make you sick and how how stresscan do some crazy things to your
body but at the end of the daythough if we truly believe that
Jesus bore all of ourinfirmities bore our iniquities
bore our transgressions that hehas provided all things for us
and that we're allowing him todo his work then we don't have
to we don't have to retain allof that on ourselves and we can
cast it on the one that that itreally did fall on, and the one

(20:40):
that it was supposed to fall on.
So the second aspect of this isthe death of us on the cross.
If we are crucified with Christ,we have crucified our fleshly
desires.
This is a good thing in the eyesof the Lord.
Psalm 116, 8-16 says, For youhave delivered my soul from
death, my eyes from tears, andmy feet from falling.
I will walk before the Lord inthe land of the living.

(21:01):
I believe, therefore I spoke.
I am greatly afflicted.
I said in my haste, All men areliars.
What shall I render to the Lord,for All his benefits towards me.

(21:37):
And, yeah, of course, of coursehe rejoices at that point.
Why?
Because we are reconciled backinto the oneness of Christ, into
the oneness of the Father.
But when we die to the flesh ofthe cross, we are also changed
into his likeness, which is alsoprecious before the Lord.
You see, and this is what we seein the breaking of the bread, is

(21:58):
that the breaking of the body,which is so key to what Jesus
was going to go through.
But then next, he took the cupand said to drink all of this,
This is the blood of the newcovenant.
Now remember, there cannot beany remission of sins without
the shedding of blood.
Hebrews 9, 16-22 says, For wherethere is a testament, there must

also of necessity be the deathof the testator.
For a testament is in forceafter men are dead, since it has
no power at all while thetestator lives.
Therefore, not even the firstcovenant was dedicated without
blood.
For when Moses had spoken everyprecept to all the people
according to the law, he tookthe blood of calves and goats
You see, Jesus is celebratingthe Passover, and he was

(22:46):
celebrating his own role as thetestator, the mediator, if you
will, of the new covenant.

(23:07):
His blood had to be shed, but itdoesn't matter.
It has no power at all while thetestator lives.
So it's only until Jesus diedthat we could inherit salvation.
And that's the key here.
So this is where we see thecrossover from the law and the
Passover or the foreshadow tothe work of the cross and grace.

(23:32):
In the law, you had to walkaccording to it in order to be
ceremonially cleansed by the Thelaw broke the flesh, since all
flesh had to be condemned in theflesh for us to walk in the
newness of life, and so it isall broken in the law.
You see, Paul said this inRomans 8, 1-4, There is

(23:54):
therefore now no condemnation tothose who are in Christ Jesus,
who do not walk according to theflesh, but according to the
Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit oflife in Christ Jesus has made me
free from the law of sin anddeath, for what the law could
not do, and that it was Sobasically, to condense this

(24:15):
down, in the law we walk tolive, but in grace we live to
walk.
And that's where the two thingsare reconciled here.
So in the breaking of the breadand the drinking of the wine,
the Lord reconciles the law inus as he walks through the in

(24:37):
order to be alive in theresurrection.
The Last Supper is importantbecause the inspection of the
Lamb had already happened andthe Jews had rejected him.
But the inspection of theGentiles had not occurred.
There had to be a connectionbetween the two, between the law
and between grace.
And Christ does that in thePassover Seder and ultimately
his work.
Because of the way that hewalked, because of the way he

(25:00):
walked in this world, he's ableto die and resurrect and walk in
the newness of life through theresurrection because of the work
that he did on this earth notjust on the cross but walking a
sinless life and fulfilling thelaw for us and that's the
transition there is because hewalked and lived but now because

(25:20):
of his work we can live and walkaccording to that newness of
life do you see how he bridgesthe gap there and that is so
important because the PassoverSeder really kind of does that
with him having been rejected bythe Jews celebrating the
Passover you know and then he'sabout to go into the inspection
of the gentiles here during thepassion and we'll talk about

(25:42):
that a little bit later wetalked about it a little bit you
know is that that that is theconnection point that is the
linchpin you know if we look atour own lives and say that we
believe in christ we should seethe breaking of self and
iniquity there will not be intotality until we fully see him
but there should be signs of thechange you see in verse 29 he

(26:02):
says that he will not drink ofthe fruit of this vine until the
day that when he drinks it withus in his father's You see,
after this, they sung a hymn andthey went to the Mount of
Olives.
And that's important, right?

(26:32):
Because the Garden ofGethsemane, where Jesus will be
arrested at the foot of theMount of Olives, it's on the And
he will return to the Mount ofOlives as well.
And it will split in two, as itsays in Zechariah 14.4.
The Mount of Olives is a specialplace for this reason.

(27:04):
It's where Jesus was arrested tobring the new covenant.
covenant.
It's where he ascended.
And it's where he's coming back.
And it's also where Davidclimbed up barefoot when Absalom
tried to take the kingdom.
And there's a picture there ofthe struggles of when rebellion
happens from the people.
But that's a different storyfrom a different time.

(27:25):
But the Passover Seder is aforeshadow of what Christ did on
the cross.
But it also bridges the law tograce.
And it's also the bridge fromthe Jews to the Gentiles.
See that is why Jesus says asoften as you It's remembrance
and partaking of the death ofJesus Christ.
Without that death, without thedeath of the testator, there is

(27:45):
no grace.
Without that, there's noremission of sins.
Without that, there's no wildvine being grafted in for the
Gentiles to come in.
Without the work that he did,and without the foreshadow of
this as well, there's none ofit.
We don't have anything.
We don't have a Christianitytoday.
But at the end of the day,Jesus, in his love, the love for

(28:07):
the Father, He loved the Fatherwith all that he was, and he
loved his neighbor as himself,to the point where he did not
want his neighbor to go and dieon the cross the way that the
neighbor should, because thewages of sin is death, and
that's really what we alldeserve.
But at the end of the day, hetook it for us, for our

(28:27):
propitiation of our sins, thepayment of our sins.
So, at the end of the day here,the Passover Seder is important.
It's the breaking of the bodyand the shedding of the blood,
and it's all things that we mustpartake of if we are going to
believe in him and we are goingto follow him.
My question to you then is thatwhen we partake of that, are we
doing it unworthily?
Are we focused on him?

(28:48):
Are we making sure that we arebeing faithful?
Are we making sure that we arebeing intimate with him?
Are we making sure that we areadvancing the kingdom?
Are we doing the things that Godhas asked us to do?
I know I start every podcastwith it, but at the end of the
day, that's what we are calledto do and that's what has to be
our focus.
So, look, I hope you gotsomething out of this.

(29:08):
We're going to continue thisstudy of Matthew and continue
through the Passion.
We have a lot to cover.
I will say that this is the bookI did just finish.
The timings were very good.
When I finished the second bookof my trilogy, The Cross, and
that is actually going to thepublisher this week.
So just pray for that and thatwe can get that going a little

(29:28):
bit faster than what it's takeniniquity to get out.
But at the end of the day, it'sall in God's timing and it's all
in His hands.

Just remember this simple truth.
The Father loves you.
Jesus loves you.
And the Holy Spirit loves you.
