UNKNOWN (00:00):
Bye.
SPEAKER_00 (00:08):
Hello, and welcome
to A Path Through Redemption,
the podcast.
My name is Daniel Arona, andjust remember this simple truth.
The Father loves you, Jesusloves you, and the Holy Spirit
loves you.
Once again, I hope that you'vehad a great week.
I hope that you've had time tospend with the Lord in prayer
and also in His Word.
Again, I cannot stress thisenough.
I'm telling you, the time isquickly, quickly approaching.
There are a lot of thingshappening in this world that we
(00:29):
have got to keep eyes on.
Obviously, being living in theU.S., we take a look at what's
happening in Los Angeles.
with the riots that arehappening there.
But I want to point your eyes toIsrael.
There's additional reports nowcoming out that Israel is
preparing an attack on Iran, particularly on the nuclear
sites.
If that happens, we might belooking at the fulfillment of
Jeremiah 49, at least a portionof it, with the prophecy of
(00:52):
Elam.
We don't know how the world willreact to that.
It's very possible that theymight attack Israel in
retaliation, in which Israelwould retaliate again.
We actually talked a little bitabout this in several episodes
ago.
If you go back and listen toJeremiah 49, Isaiah 17 in the
(01:13):
previous season of this podcast,it would actually kind of talk
through a lot of the things thatare going on.
The Psalm 83, Jeremiah 49,Obadiah, Ezekiel 38 and 39
portions of the podcast.
So it's just important that wekeep our eyes there because
again, Israel is our stopwatch.
Israel is by what we take thetime with when it comes to these
(01:33):
end time scenarios.
But if that happens I mean we'realready seeing the portions of
Obadiah be fulfilled becauseagain even since the the time of
David or when Israel actuallyconquered the the known or the
land of Canaan they've reallynever controlled Felicia they've
never controlled the areas ofGaza and Gath and those types of
(01:55):
places up until recently wherethey're starting to take over
the those areas so just makesure that you are watching and
you know that you are prayingbecause When you see these
things, the scripture says thatwe are to look up for our
redemption draws nigh.
So just make sure that you'refocused on that and that you're
focused on other things that Godwants you to do and focused on
(02:15):
your relationship with him.
Make sure that you're spendingtime with him in prayer.
And again, I just cannot, cannot, cannot stress that
enough.
Okay.
So with that being said, lastweek, we looked at how Jesus
went before the Sanhedrin andthe core of the Jews and how he
was accused.
This week, we're going to goahead and take a look at what
happens when Jesus goes beforethe court of the Gentiles and
(02:38):
Pilate.
And look, this is reallyimportant.
I want to start here becausethere's an economy here.
There's the court of the Jews.
Now he's going to go into thecourt of the Gentiles.
And we see this throughout thePassion right now.
We see this all the way up tothe crucifixion.
The Jews delivered Jesus to theRomans and then ultimately the
Romans have him put to death.
Or in this case, the Jews judgethat he is not worthy or that he
(03:02):
needs to be put to death.
The Romans or the do not, yetthey still are complicit in the
death of Jesus Christ.
So what does all that mean?
Basically, it means that all ofus were complicit.
All of us had part in the deathof Jesus Christ.
And we'll look at that next weekwhen we really kind of look at
Barabbas and how Jesus took hisplace.
(03:24):
But at the end of the day, Jesusis going, he's taken from
Caiaphas, the high priest fromthe Sanhedrin, and he is then
given into the Romans, into thecourt So let's go ahead and jump
(03:44):
in.
(04:05):
And if you remember when wefirst started with the Passion
of Christ, I talked about theinspection of the Lamb at the
beginning.
The Jews would find issue withtheir Lamb, but ultimately the
Gentiles would be completelyfine.
They would find no fault in Him,but yet would still...
So, in Matthew 27, 11-14, itsays, go into a lot of detail
(04:52):
about this okay again he isshowing Christ as king a king
doesn't answer when questionedby someone unworthy to talk to
him so I want you to understandthat a king does not answer that
that's what Jesus did here hewould not address Pilate and
that's what Matthew shows yetthe book of John gives much more
detail as to what exactlyhappened here and we need to
(05:15):
show this because John showsChrist as God and ultimately his
interaction with man So let'sread this here.
(05:50):
Therefore the Jews said to him,It is not lawful for us to put
anyone to death, that the sayingof Jesus might be fulfilled
which he spoke, signifying bywhat death he would die.
Then Pilate entered thepraetorium again, called Jesus,
and said to him, Are you theking of the Jews?
Jesus answered him, Are youspeaking for yourself about
this, or did others tell youconcerning me?
(06:14):
Pilate answered and said, Am I aJew?
Your own nation and the chiefpriests have delivered you to
me.
What have you done?
Jesus answered, My kingdom isnot of this world.
If my kingdom were of thisworld, my servants would fight
so that I should not bedelivered to the Jews.
But now my kingdom is not fromhere.
(06:34):
Pilate therefore said to him,Are you a king then?
Jesus answered, You say rightlythat I am a king.
For this cause I was born andfor this cause I have come and
Now, a few things that we needto look at here.
(07:02):
First off is that the Jews didnot go into Praetorium.
This was so they would notdefile themselves during the
Passover.
This shows the time frame of thecrucifixion.
Remember, Jesus is the Passoverlamb that was crucified.
So all of this had to take placeduring the time for the
scripture to be fulfilled.
(07:23):
Remember, the Old Testament isChrist concealed and the New
Testament is Christ revealed.
So Pilate then, what does he do?
He went out to them.
The Jews were to be the light tothe Gentiles.
Isaiah 42, 5-9 says, He says,And look, that's exactly what
(08:26):
happens.
I mean, the first apostles, theones that set the foundation
along with Jesus Christ as thechief cornerstone, they were all
Jews.
The Christian religion, theChristianity, the belief in
Jesus Christ is rooted inJudaism.
Without them, we don't have aSavior.
Without them, we don't have asalvation.
You see, we were always going tolook to the Jews for salvation.
(08:48):
That was the promise that wasgiven to Abraham in Genesis 12,
1-3.
Now the Lord had said to Abram,Get out of your country, from
your family, and from yourfather's house to a land that I
will show you.
I will make you a great nation.
I will bless you and make yourname great, and you shall be a
blessing.
I will bless those who blessyou, and I will curse him who
(09:10):
curses you.
And in you all the families ofthe earth shall be blessed.
In Abraham all the families ofthe earth shall be blessed.
And that was through JesusChrist.
It was because of the lineage ofJesus Christ.
So here we have a Gentile in theform of Pontius Pilate who went
out to the Jews to behold andinspect the salvation that was
(09:31):
to come.
See, the They were the light.
That's what they were supposedto be.
That was their purpose, was tobring salvation to the world and
ultimately to the Gentiles.
And look, they did it.
Jesus Christ came through thelineage of the kings.
He was born of a virgin.
He came here, again, given tothe Jewish people, but
ultimately their rejection ofhim led and allowed the
(09:54):
Gentiles, all of us, to havefaith in him and to come and
find him because at the end ofthe day, he was not the one that
was lost.
We So at first, Pilate wantednothing to do with this.
And I think this is a key point.
You know, Pilate's not wantingto take part in whatever the
Jews were doing.
And it shows a disconnectbetween the Jews who have
(10:14):
already rejected Christ and theGentiles who frankly just wanted
to ignore him.
And we see this today as well.
All the Orthodox Jews completelyreject Christ.
While those unsaved Gentilesjust really don't want anything
to do with him.
It's really not that they...
openly reject him.
Now, some do.
We've gotten to the point in oursociety where some are saying
(10:37):
all types of slander andeverything else about Jesus and
are saying all manner of evilthings, particularly going on in
this month.
But at the end of the day, forthe most part, the
run-of-the-mill Gentiles do not, they just want to ignore him.
They don't want to deal withhim.
They don't want to have anythingto do with him.
They kind of want to have thiskind of nonchalant attitude
(10:59):
about Jesus and about who he is.
While others will fight youtooth and nail, basically saying
that, no, he is not God.
So there's a mix of both inthere.
But at the end of the day, a lotof people just don't want
anything to do with him.
And Pilate tells them ultimatelyto go and judge him.
But because they weren't allowedto put him to death, he had to
be delivered to Pilate.
(11:21):
You know, and that's really kindof the thing here is that when
we give the gospel, when we tellpeople about Jesus Christ, we
have to offer it as a gift.
We have to offer it like, look, here's a better way.
Here's Jesus Christ.
Now, the other piece here isthat Jesus had to be taken to
(11:53):
the Romans to be lifted up.
Throughout his life, Jesus saidthat he would be lifted up.
In fact, John 3, 14-15 says inas Moses lifted up the serpent
in the wilderness, even so theSon of Man must be lifted up,
that whoever believes in himshould not perish but have
eternal life.
We see this reference going backin Numbers 21, 4-9, where it
(12:15):
says, Then they journeyed fromMount Hor by the way of the Red
Sea to go around the land ofEdom, and the soul of the people
became very discouraged on theway.
And the people spoke against Godand against Moses, Why have you
brought us up out of Egypt todie in the wilderness?
For there is no food and nowater And our soul loathes this
(12:40):
worthless bread.
(13:01):
put it on a pole, and so it was,if a serpent had bitten anyone,
when he looked at the bronzeserpent, he lived.
So when the children of Israelrebelled, they were bitten by
snakes.
But when they looked at thebronze serpent, they were
ultimately healed.
What they were looking at wasJesus Christ taking the sins of
the world on him to bringredemption.
(13:22):
It was bronze because the bronzealtar was the figure of the
remission of sins at that time.
The only way for Jesus to belifted up on that pole was to be
crucified and the only way to becrucified would be for the to be
delivered to the Romans becausethe Romans were the ones that
were killing people that way sojust as sin and the curse of
(13:44):
everything of the law andeverything had bitten us had
taken us had given us franklyseparated us from Jesus Christ
because you could only beritualistically clean.
When we look at Jesus on thecross and we believe on him,
then we ultimately have life andare redeemed and are saved the
same way that the people inMoses' time were redeemed and
(14:08):
ultimately were saved and werehealed, right?
It's amazing because even if youlook at an ambulance today, this
picture of a serpent on a brazenpole is what is actually the
symbol of all the ambulances.
And the reason for that isbecause it's a picture of the
healing, but the healing powerof Jesus Christ.
They have no idea that on theside of the ambulance is
literally a picture of Jesus onthe cross.
(14:30):
And imagine if people trulyunderstood what the meaning of
that image was.
But anyway, continuing on here,Pilate went into Praetorium and
called Jesus.
See, the Jews would not go inthere as to defile themselves,
yet here Jesus goes in to beinspected by Pilate.
This shows that the purity ofwho Christ is had nothing to do
(14:50):
with the ritual spiritualisticpurity of the Sanhedrin.
And that's a key point becausethroughout Christ's ministry,
the Sanhedrin or the Jews or thescribes and the Pharisees would
constantly talk about the law,the law, the law.
And Jesus would turn the law onits head and he would say, look,
you know, I know that you sayit's not good to commit
adultery, but I tell you, evenif you look at another woman in
(15:13):
your heart to lust, then youhave committed the very sin of
adultery.
So he takes it to another level.
And here they say the law, thelaw, the law, but It's all about
ritualistic and it's all aboutcarnality and laying God over
top of the flesh.
And that's not what you have.
You have to have a change ofheart here.
And the only change of heart cancome is through Jesus Christ.
So his purity was greater thanthe ritualistic purity of the
(15:37):
Sanhedrin.
You see, his purity was of theheart and theirs was of the
flesh.
The external things do notmatter if the heart is not
there.
And we've got to know that.
Your heart has got to be right, not just towards God, but
towards your fellow man.
You know, we cannot, we shouldnot even go before the Lord in
prayer if we have ought againstour brother.
We have to go fix that oughtfirst, and then we can go before
(15:59):
the Lord.
You see, there are manyChristians today who sit in pews
week after week after week, whose hearts are as far from the
Lord as it can be.
They may be ritualisticallypure.
And what I mean by that, they goto church, they do the right
things, they may even pay theirtithes, may do X, Y, and Z to be
on the book roll, but at the endof the day, their hearts are far
(16:20):
away from the Lord.
What matters is not theritualistic signs of purity, but
your actual heart.
Your actual heart.
Do you love the Lord?
Are you praying?
Are you reading your Bible?
Are you trying to get as muchout of him as you possibly can?
Are you trying to grow as closeand as intimate as you can?
That's what will judge yourheart.
(16:40):
That's what will make your heartbe right, versus just going to
church and hearing a sermon oncea week.
Now, after this, Pilate is goingto hold his own court.
In this court, Pilate is judge, jury, and executioner.
What he says goes.
Also, Pilate represents all theGentiles.
He performs the inspection ofthe Lamb to determine if Jesus
(17:02):
Christ is worthy enough for theGentiles.
So during this, he's going toask five questions.
The first one he asks is verysimple.
Are you king of the Jews?
Jesus asked Pilate if he isasking for himself or what
others have said.
You see, this is key because weare all going to determine if we
(17:23):
have a relationship with Christor if we know about Christ
through others and what do Imean by that like if you know me
in my life and in my normal lifehere you know where I stand you
know that I wear my Christianityacross my chest I wear it on my
sleeve there is no doubt aboutmy faith there's no doubt about
my morals there's no doubt aboutwho I am as a person I'm the
(17:44):
same that I am in private as Iam in public or in front of
people there's really no changeso at the end of the day what
does that mean?
That's basically saying, look, Ihave a relationship with Jesus
Christ and you can see it.
I'm not putting myself up on apedestal.
I'm not saying I'm this greatChristian.
I fall, I fail every single dayand I need a savior and a
salvation whose name is Jesusbecause without him, I can't
(18:07):
make it through my day.
But the question is, I knowJesus in my relationship.
The question is, do you knowJesus or do you know about the
Jesus that the preacher preachesabout on Sunday?
That's a question.
Look, it's a difference betweenthe intimate relationship and a
difference between just having aperiphery relationship where,
yeah, Jesus is kind of myacquaintance.
(18:27):
I don't have a great intimaterelationship with him.
I'm not talking to him everyday.
But at the end of the day, Iknow who he is.
That's the difference.
That's exactly what Jesus isturning around and asking
Pilate.
Are you asking this, Pilate?
Or is this because someone elsetold you?
Do you recognize my kingship,Pilate?
Or did someone tell you I wasking?
So I ask that same question toyou.
(18:49):
Do you recognize the kingship ofJesus Christ in your life to
where he is Lord over everythingthat you have or do you just
know about it and you know thepeople who put Jesus before
everything?
That's the question.
I hope that everyone listeningsees Jesus as King of Kings and
Lord of Lords in their lifebecause if you're trying to get
(19:09):
to heaven or if you're trying toget intimate through someone
else's relationship you're nevergoing to get there.
Now this led to the secondquestion that Pilate's going to
ask and it's am I a Jew?
See Pilate was Pilate was not aJew, and it's a rhetorical
question.
Pilate here, though, acknowledges that he had no
relationship with God.
That's why he said, I don't havea relationship with God.
(19:32):
That's what he says in thisquestion.
So he acknowledges, look, Idon't recognize you as a king.
I don't know that you are.
I knew through other people andwhat they're saying.
So Pilate acknowledges here thatnot only him, but all the
Gentiles have zero relationshipwith God.
And how could they?
Up until Jesus Christ came, thelaw, everything that God had
(19:53):
really wasn't for the Gentiles.
It was only for the Jews.
So understanding that then,Pilate says, look, am I a Jew?
I'm not subject to all thisstuff.
I don't recognize your kingship.
I don't know who you are.
But he follows that up bysaying, your own nation has
delivered you up to me.
What have you done?
He responds by telling Pilatewhere his kingdom was from.
(20:16):
Jesus does.
This revelation was not given tothe Jews in their court trial,
but it was given to the Gentilesduring theirs.
And that's key.
This shows the transfer of thepromise to be offered to the
Gentiles.
Pilate was the first one toknow, truly, that Christ's
kingdom was not of this earth, but of elsewhere.
Think about that for a second, right?
(20:38):
Because here the Jews arerejecting their king, but yet
here the king is revealing tothe Gentiles, to Pilate, hey,
Guess what?
My kingdom's not up here, butthere's another kingdom from
where I'm from.
Amen.
How amazing is that?
Because this is what openseverything up to us.
So then Pilate then asks, areyou a king then?
And then Jesus responds saying, yes, I am.
(21:00):
This is who he is and thateveryone who knows the truth
hears his voice.
He tells Pilate straight up whohe is.
Yet we see that Pilate does notbelieve it in the next question
because he asks, what is truth?
Pilate ultimately is unable torecognize the truth standing
right in front of him as JesusChrist.
(21:22):
John 1.14 says, So Jesus, beingthe fullness of grace and truth,
is standing right in front ofPilate, declaring the truth of
his kingdom, of his kingship, ofwho he is, and Pilate can't see
(21:43):
it or understand it.
In so many people are like this.
They hear Jesus, but cannotunderstand the truth that is
Jesus.
Not only the truth of what heis, of who he is, the truth of
what he did, the truth of thesalvation, of everything that he
offers us when we believe inhim.
(22:04):
So understanding that, thatPilate sees him and just can't
do it.
Why not?
Why can't Pilate do that?
The reason is because Jesus hadnot died yet.
When Jesus dies and resurrectedThen guess what happens here?
A few days after that, the HolySpirit comes down.
It is the Holy Spirit that drawsthe Gentiles in.
(22:26):
It is the revelation of the HolySpirit that allows the Gentiles
to have access to the gospel.
It is the key differentiatorhere.
It draws all those in to besaved.
When you first got convicted andyou felt like you needed to give
your life to the Lord, and youfelt the butterflies in your
belly, and you felt like theLord was dealing with you,
That's what it means.
(22:46):
That was the Holy Spirit drawingyou into Jesus Christ.
But Pilate could not have thetruth because Jesus had not
died, he had not resurrected, and the Holy Spirit was not
there to draw him in.
It is the Holy Spirit thatreveals the truth of Jesus
Christ because the Holy Spiritwill always, always point to
Jesus.
And Jesus will always, alwayspoint to the Father.
(23:09):
That's how the Godhead works.
At the very end of this, though,Pilate says very plainly, I find
This acknowledgement means thelamb is acceptable.
It means the Gentiles can haveaccess to him once and for all,
and that redemption had finallycome to them.
This is why when Jesus dies, ultimately the curtain in the
(23:31):
temple rips and tears in two.
We're going to talk about thatat some point, but it meant that
all had access.
Everyone had access, not justthe priests, not just the Jews,
not just the people of thelineage of Jesus.
David but ultimately everyonehad access to Jesus Christ the
way that Paul says whosoevershall call upon the name of the
(23:53):
Lord shall be saved amen all ofthis was done that scripture may
be fulfilled and that ultimatelysalvation may come to the world
not just to the Jews but to theworld to the Gentiles as well
but without it there had to be acourt of the Jews there had to
be a court of the Gentiles aswell and we know that the Jews
(24:17):
ultimately delivered Jesus tothe Gentiles, but it was the
Gentiles that ultimately had himcrucified.
So look, both the Jew and theGentile are responsible for the
death of Jesus Christ.
And I want you to understandthat everyone was condemned in
this.
Everyone was.
All of us are guilty.
Every single one of us, eventhough we weren't there, all of
(24:37):
us still had a part to play.
Why?
Because while he was hanging onthat cross, as we saw in John
17, we were on his He waspraying for us.
And I just want you tounderstand that and know that,
that Jesus loves you that much, that he, when the gardener gets
sent to you before his hardesttrial, his hardest day, he would
actually pray for you and praythat you would come into unity
(25:00):
with the brethren and beaccepted of the brethren, and
that ultimately you would cometo believe in him and be one
with the Father.
Hallelujah.
That's the amazing love thatJesus Christ has for all of us.
Amen.
So look, next, I hope you gotsomething out of this.
Next time, we are going to talkabout Barabbas and Jesus taking
(25:20):
his place ultimately in thecrucifixion.
And what Barabbas had done andwhat he was accused of and the
things that he was guilty of.
So with all that being said, again, make sure that you are
studying to show yourselfapproved.
Make sure that you are puttingin the work.
Amen.
So until next time, justremember this simple truth.
(25:41):
The Father loves you.
Jesus loves you.
And the Holy Spirit loves you.
God bless.
UNKNOWN (25:47):
Bye.
