UNKNOWN (00:00):
Bye.
SPEAKER_00 (00:08):
Hello and welcome to
A Path to Redemption, the
podcast.
My name is Daniel Arona and justremember this simple truth.
The Father loves you, Jesusloves you, and the Holy Spirit
loves you.
Once again, I hope that you'vehad a great week.
I hope that you've had time tospend with the Lord in prayer
and also in his scripture.
Again, I cannot stress enoughthat the day is quickly
approaching.
I truly, truly believe that weare looking at the last days, if
(00:30):
you will.
We're looking at the end of thisage.
I'm really staring it down rightnow, in particular, in the war
with Israel and Iran.
I want to Talk a little bitabout that before I get started
here.
You know, I think this is aprecursor war.
This is not Ezekiel 38.
You're going to hear people saythat, but it is not Ezekiel 38.
It's not because the U.S.
(00:50):
has helped Israel.
In Ezekiel 38, Israel is aloneand God has to come to its
rescue here by himself.
And then they all end up on themountains and they then get
eaten by the birds of the air.
So understanding that, this isdefinitely not Ezekiel 38.
So I want to be clear aboutthat.
But on the other hand, I dothink this is another precursor
(01:11):
war.
It's another step.
Persia is part of the Ezekiel 38coalition.
We've already seen the October7th.
If you read Jonathan Cahn'sbook, The Dragon Prophecy, what
you actually see is that Libya,Sudan, some of these other
nations, Turkey, actually helpedfund Hamas for their October 7th
invasion.
So there's a lot of differentthings that happened and are
(01:32):
going on right now in terms ofprecursors and what's happening.
The one thing One thing that wehaven't seen, though, is anyone
strike the Bushir nuclear plant.
That is the only active nuclearreactor in Iran, and that's what
actually powers the power grid.
Understanding that, if someoneactually attacks that, you'd
(01:54):
have nuclear meltdown.
You might potentially see thefulfillment of Jeremiah 49 there
with the prophecy of Elam.
Elam was a nation that was onthe coast of where modern-day
Iran is at this point.
Look, you're not going to findscripture about the U.S.
attacking Iran's nuclear sites.
It's not in there.
There's nothing in there aboutthat.
(02:15):
But there are certain keynotches that I think that will
lead up into the end, into thetime of the end, into the end of
this age.
I think this is a precursor.
It's possibly the Psalm 83 war.
That is very possible.
We've talked about that beforewhere peoples come against
Israel.
We've kind of been seeing thatsince October 7th of 2023.
(02:37):
But at the end of the day...
What all this is saying is,look, you've got to be prayed
up.
You've got to be ready to go.
You've got to make sure thatwe're telling people about
Jesus, that we have a sense ofurgency about it.
And that's my biggest concern,is that does the church have the
sense of urgency needed to tellpeople about Jesus and to tell
people that the end of this ageis coming and to warn them?
We all have a responsibility todo that, and it's important that
(02:59):
we are doing that, becausethat's how close I really think
that we truly are.
And look, there's going to be alot of anti-Semitic teachings
that are coming out.
I've already heard quite a fewsaying that the Israeli land
isn't really the land of Israel, that the people aren't really
Israel.
All of that is just bold-facedlies.
God's land is where he wrote hisname.
(03:20):
Jerusalem is where he wrote hisname.
The Israeli people are still hispeople, his chosen people.
It's up for him to sort it allout.
That's not our responsibility tojudge.
Our responsibility is to prayfor the Israeli people and to
pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
If you don't understand thatChristianity is basically a
Jewish faith, a Jewish religion.
(03:42):
I don't know what else to tellyou.
Jesus was a Jew.
Obviously, all the prophets, theOld Testament are all Jewish
history.
Even the very foundation of thechurch, the apostles were all
Jewish men.
So it's important for us to seethat and to know that and to
understand that.
But more importantly, it's timeto pray.
Now's the time to intercede.
Now's the time to ask God tomove in your loved ones.
(04:03):
Because I truly do believe thattowards the end of this age, as
things get worse and worse andworse and worse that people that
knew the truth before are goingto be coming back they're going
to come back to the knowledge ofwho Jesus Christ is and they're
going to really want to engagein it before it's all said and
done at least that's my prayer Ihope it is I don't know if the
revival happens for the world asmuch as it happens in those that
(04:24):
have backslidden and hopefullycome back but what we're seeing
right now we're seeing atremendous apostasy we're seeing
a tremendous just I mean justterrible terrible things from a
teaching standpoint and from abiblical teaching standpoint so
That's why it's so important toknow scripture.
That's why it's so important toput in the work and to do the
work and to do what God hasasked you to do.
(04:45):
Amen.
So last week we looked atBarabbas and how Christ became
the propitiation of our sins.
Now it's time to look at thebeatings and the cross.
And look, there's a lot tounpack.
And we're going to takemultiple, multiple episodes to
cover what we can here.
But I do want to say somethingabout this before we kind of get
into it.
I don't believe that we willever fully understand all that
(05:07):
Jesus accomplished on the crossuntil we see him.
I really don't.
I just think there was so muchin it and it was so important
that God had to send his son toaccomplish everything.
God had to send part of himselfto do it because in our fallen
state we had no chance to do itat all or any of it, frankly.
So understanding that, theculmination of human history is
(05:28):
the death and resurrection ofJesus Christ.
That is the climax of humanhistory and it's the greatest
single act in human history.
It is the greatest single thingthat we will ever understand in
the We will talk about for allof eternity.
And I think that at the end ofthe day, we take it for granted
now because we know that we dolive in the age of grace, that
we make mistakes, and that Godis gracious and merciful to
(05:49):
forgive them.
But at the end of the day, weshouldn't.
We cannot take it for granted.
We need to make sure that we'reputting in the work.
You're never going to beperfect, but he does ask for a
relationship.
He asks for you to strive withhim.
And look, if you can't do itanymore, then ask him to come to
you and he'll be more than happyto.
So make sure that we're puttingin that work.
And I know I stress that, butit's really important.
Really, really important.
(06:10):
So before we jump in, again, allof our scripture comes from a
New King James Bible.
If you'd like a copy of a NewKing James Bible, feel free to
drop me a note atPathToRedemptionOhio at
gmail.com.
And then also my book's out,Grace Abounds.
If you'd like a copy of that, feel free to drop me a note at
PathToRedemptionOhio atgmail.com.
And then finally, don't take myword for it.
Make sure you're putting in thework, studying to show yourself
(06:31):
approved unto God and doing thework that he's asked you to do.
Amen.
So let's go ahead and jump in.
We're going to spend a lot oftime on four verses.
Matthew 27, 27 through 31.
(07:04):
It says, This was thepraetorium.
This was where the judgment ofthe Romans was executed in
Jerusalem.
It was where Pilate would havetaken Jesus to question him and
where the Jews would not go.
While the Jews handed him over,it was the Gentiles in the form
of the Roman governance andmilitary that beat him and
killed him.
So we've kind of talked aboutthat before, how the Jews handed
(07:25):
him over, but it was the Romans, the Gentiles that actually went
ahead and crucified him.
So understanding that it wasboth Jew and Gentile that
actually went and crucifiedJesus Christ.
Just want to be clear aboutthat.
So an entire garrison was aroundhim, and a garrison could be as
few as 100 or as many as 5,000.
Now, more than likely, this wasthe Praetorian Guard, who were
(07:47):
typically the most elite, butalso the most brutal of all the
Roman soldiers.
It should be no surprise thatthey would relish the
opportunity to beat someone, particularly given the
reputation that Jesus would havehad even among the Romans.
We know that at the very least,at least one centurion went to
him for the healing of hissermon.
So the next thing it is, thisstripped him first.
(08:08):
And we will get to the mockingportion here in a second.
But I want to pause here becauseI think this is really
important.
They stripped Jesus Christ, theSon of God, naked before them.
This is where he bore our shame.
You see, Genesis 3, 7-10 says,Then the eyes of both of them
were opened, and they knew thatthey were naked.
And they sewed fig leavestogether and made themselves
(08:28):
coverings.
And they had heard the sound ofthe Lord God walking in the
garden in the cool of the day.
And Adam and his wife hid fromthemselves from the presence of
the Lord God among the trees inthe garden.
Then the Lord God called to Adamand said to him, Where are you?
So he said, I heard your voicein the garden, and I was afraid
because I was naked, and I hidmyself.
You see, our shame is in ournakedness.
(08:50):
We see this with Noah as well.
Genesis 9, 18-27 says, Now thesons of Noah who went out of the
ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
And Ham was the father ofCanaan.
These three were the sons ofNoah, and from these the whole
earth was populated.
And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard Then
he drank of the wine and wasdrunk and became uncovered in
(09:10):
his tent.
(09:36):
So Leviticus repeatedly tells usthere's a whole lot packed in
that scripture, right?
Particularly about how we willall dwell in the tents of Shem,
those of us that know JesusChrist.
The Japheth was basically thefather of the Gentiles.
(09:58):
Ham really settled in Africa.
But then ultimately Shem wouldhave been where the Jewish
people descended from.
He would have been after theorder of Melchizedek.
We've talked about that.
You can go back and look forthat episode to really
understand the order ofMelchizedek and how that worked.
But Leviticus repeatedly tellsus to not uncover the nakedness
of anyone in our family.
Yet here, Jesus' nakedness wasuncovered as he bore our shame
(10:21):
before the Roman Praetorian.
You see, this was the beginningof bearing our shame.
He would be crucified naked forall to see.
He does this so that we may haveour glorified bodies that have
no shame.
It's as Paul says thatcorruptible will put on
incorruption.
And it's important that we seethat.
You know, he He bore all of thisfor us, and that's where we're
going to look at a lot.
What did he bear through thecross?
What did he bear through thesebeatings?
(10:42):
What things actually happenedhere?
So the next thing is that theymade him a mocked king, and
we're going to start with theoverall piece of this, and then
we're going to go into thedetail of the individual
aspects.
You see, when Adam fell, he wasking of the earth, and I think
that that's something that'sbeen lost in teaching.
You see, God delegated thatauthority to him.
(11:04):
We see that in Genesis 1, 26-30.
Then God said, And it was so.
(12:06):
How do we see that?
In the curse given to him,Genesis 3, 17-19.
Then to Adam he said, Becauseyou have heeded the voice of
your wife, and have eaten fromthe tree of which I commanded
you, saying, You shall not eatof it, cursed is the ground for
your sake, and toil you shalleat of it all the days of your
life.
Both thorns and thistles itshall bring forth to you, and
(12:26):
you shall eat the herb of thefield.
In the sweat of your face youshall eat bread till you return
to the ground.
For out of it you were taken, for dust you are, and to dust
you shall return.
No longer was man givenauthority over the ground, but
yet in toil we would have to eatof its fruit, and we would not
be able to control the thornsand weeds that come up out of
(12:47):
it.
And I think that's key.
The authority, when he fell, theauthority was taken to him, and
it was given to another.
Now that authority and dominion,it wasn't given to Satan, not
this time, but at that time, itwas given to death.
And Paul tells us this in Romans5, 12-14, where it says,
Therefore, just as through oneman sin entered the world and
(13:08):
death through sin and thus deathspread to all men because all
sinned we all sinned in Adambecause we ultimately were all
in Adam we were all in the seedof Adam so everyone's a
descendant of Adam so for untilthe law was in the world but sin
is not imputed when there is nolaw so let's time out for a
second if there was no law thatit was wrong for Adam to kick
(13:30):
the tiger and he kicked thetiger there's no sin there can't
be sin imputed where there's nolaw right but in the Even after
Adam, people didn't sin the sameway that Adam did.
Because this is what he goes onand says.
(13:50):
He says, Then the Lord saw thatthe wickedness of man was great
in the earth, and that everyintent of the thoughts of his
(14:11):
heart was only evil continually.
So let me time out there for asecond.
So we have the Adam and Eve,they fall, there's only one law,
donate the tree of the knowledgeof good and evil, they eat of
it, so they break the law, sinners and death enters.
After that, there's no otherlaws.
There's no law that's given inscripture, there's nothing
that's said, anything betweenAdam all the way down to Noah.
(14:33):
So man does everything that isright in his own eyes.
But because Because of theiniquity that was merchandised
by Satan into Eve and thenultimately into Adam, you see
iniquity grow.
But unchecked, we don't know howto act on our own accord because
of the iniquity that rests inus, that focus on self, that
looking inward rather thanoutward to God.
So understanding that, man isonly evil continually in his
(14:57):
heart because of the iniquitythat we all inherited through
Adam.
That's our sin nature.
So at the end of the day, without that law, though,
there's no sin.
Nevertheless, yet death reigns.
But because of that, it wasunchecked.
And because iniquity wasunchecked, God had to destroy
the earth by a flood.
So God says, fine, I'm going toshow you the rules of do and
don'ts.
I'm going to show you what it isto be holy.
(15:18):
So he gives Moses the law ofMoses to show us what it means
to be holy.
Here's the thing.
None of us can ever be holy inour own selves.
It is not possible for us tofulfill the law.
That's why we needed JesusChrist.
But he shows us the law as amirror to show how evil and
awful that we are, how thestandard is.
and how we will never get tothat standard, but we can only,
(15:39):
through the righteousness ofJesus Christ and our faith in
him, get to that standard by thework of him through the cross of
Jesus Christ.
Now, when the law came, that'swhen Satan was able to take the
keys to death and hell, becausenow that the law was here, he is
able then to have sin happen, tohave iniquity grow even more,
(15:59):
and it was only through the lawthat he could merchandise his
iniquity and therefore impartsin.
For Adam to Noah And I hope thatyou understand that.
That was a pretty quickexplanation of some of the
dispensations here.
But I think it's important forus to understand where we're
coming from.
And that, look, sin really hasto take advantage of the law.
(16:23):
And the law of Moses is whatallowed Satan to merchandise
that.
Once the law came, Satan thenhad...
He was the ruler at that pointof this world.
Now, Jesus being mocked as kingreconciled mankind back to its
rightful place.
In 1 Corinthians 15, 42-49, Ishould say this.
(16:44):
Jesus being mocked as kingreconciled mankind back to its
rightful place after the deathand resurrection of him.
But in 1 Corinthians 15, 42-49,it says, So also is the
resurrection of the dead.
The body is sown in corruptionand is raised in incorruption.
It is sown in dishonor It israised in glory.
(17:30):
And as is the heavenly man, soalso are those who are heavenly.
And as we have borne the imageof the man of dust, we shall
also bear the image of theheavenly man.
So Jesus here is shown as thesecond Adam, putting himself in
the rightful place of thedelegated authority that is over
this earth.
He will have full authorityduring the millennial kingdom,
(17:51):
and he is seen here mocked witha crown of thorns, a purple rod,
and a reed for a scepter, butthat delegated authority will
cause him to return.
Because It says in Revelation19, 11-16, that he would strike
(18:30):
the nations.
And he himself will rule themwith a rod of iron.
He himself treads the winepressof the fierceness and wrath of
the Almighty God.
And he has on his robe and onhis thigh a name written, King
of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Because of the mocking that tookplace, he can come back and rule
(18:51):
and reign.
And for those of us who believein him, we recognize that
kingdom now.
You see, we give him fullauthority over our lives.
And when we submit ourselves, Wecan actually see the kingdom of
God happen in every single oneof our lives every single day,
but only when it comes tosubmission.
(19:12):
And there's one last point Ireally want to make here because
it's really, really important.
The one last point is that Psalm2, 1-9 says, And cast away their
(19:33):
cords from us.
(20:01):
This was prophesied that Godwill set his son on his holy
hill in Zion to rule thenations.
He was mocked as king that hemay receive the promise to be
king of kings and lord of lords.
What's even more amazing is thateven Satan offered this to him
when Satan tempted Jesus.
In Matthew 4, 8-10 it says, Andhe said to him, All these things
(20:30):
I will give you if you will falldown and worship me.
(20:59):
like the prodigal son did andlike what Jesus would eventually
teach, then maybe he can goahead and do that.
But no, what happened is Jesussaid, you know what?
Nope.
I'm going to just worship theLord, my God.
That's what the scripture says.
I'm going to follow my father.
And ultimately that's going tobe his inheritance at the end.
Okay.
But we can see that kingdom now.
(21:20):
And that's what I want to beclear here is that if you
believe in him, if you submit tohim, you can absolutely see the
kingdom of God now happen inyour life.
But that's a different lessonfor a different time.
Okay, now let's look at theindividual pieces here.
The robe, they were putting onroyalty on the shame.
This is exactly what we do everysingle day.
You know, we try to justifyourselves in our own flesh.
(21:43):
We are the kings of our ownlives.
This is the picture of iniquity.
And this is what Jesus took andwould eventually be nailed to
the cross.
You see, when we set ourselveson the throne of our own lives,
rather than God, rather thanrecognizing the kingship of
Christ, then ultimately we dothis.
We take the robe, the royalrobe, and we put it on our own
shame, on our own cardinality,on our own sin, on our own
(22:05):
flesh, until ultimately it just,we think that we're right.
And there's a way that seemsright unto a man, but the ends
are our destruction.
Now the next thing is that theytook the scepter.
This was the reed that theywould eventually use to beat And
we saw how Revelation would saythat he would rule with a rod of
iron.
Yet here he is being mocked andsomething that ultimately beats
(22:25):
him.
See, the rod of iron means thatrighteous justice will be swift
and according to the letter.
And frankly, at this point, morethan likely without mercy.
And I know his mercy is renewingwith the rising of the sun, but
we are talking about a differentdispensation.
We're talking about themillennial kingdom.
We're talking about righteousjudgment on those that have
rejected him as king.
So I want to be clear aboutthat, right?
(22:46):
So they, it's a differentdispensation.
It's going to come swift, and Ithink it's going to be without
mercy.
But at the end of the day, theytake that reed, they take that
scepter, and then they begin towhip him with it.
They try to whip him with hisown authority, his own place of
authority.
And to me, that's justcraziness.
But that's what they do, becauseit's not with the rod of iron,
but it's with this reed.
So at the end of the day, though, we know that his
(23:08):
authority is going to berighteous, and his authority is
going to be just during themillennial kingdom.
Now, the final piece I want totalk about is the crown of
thorns.
And look, they shoved it down onAnd we know the blood and
everything else came from hisforehead and from his head.
As we talked earlier about howAdam lost a minion and Christ
took it back, well, the cursestill had to be borne by Christ
(23:28):
in order to alleviate it, thatwe all may walk according to the
kingdom.
Remember the curse in Genesis 3,17-19.
Then to Adam he said, Becauseyou have heeded the voice of
your wife, and have eaten fromthe tree of which I commanded
you, saying, You shall not eatof it.
Curse is the ground for yoursake, and toil you shall eat of
it all the days of your So thecurse here for the earth is that
(23:53):
thorns and thistles.
So Jesus literally bears a crownof thorns to bear the curse that
was given to the earth becauseof Adam's fall.
Now this relates to us in thekingdom because Jesus would
(24:16):
teach this in Matthew 26.
Therefore I say to you, do notworry about your life, what you
will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you
will put on.
It's not life more than food andthe body more than clothing.
Look at the birds of the air,for they neither sow nor reap
nor gather into barns, yet yourheavenly Father feeds them.
(24:36):
And are you not of more valuethan they?
Which of you, by worrying, canadd one cubit to his stature?
So why do you worry aboutclothing?
Consider the lilies of thefield, how they grow.
They neither And yet I say toyou that even Solomon in all his
glory was not arrayed like oneof these.
Now if God so clothes the grassof the field, which today is and
(24:57):
tomorrow is thrown into theoven, will he not much more
clothe you, O you of littlefaith?
Therefore do not worry what weshall we eat or what shall we
drink or what shall we wear, forafter all these things the
Gentiles seek.
For your heavenly Father knowsthat you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom ofGod and his righteousness, and
all these things shall be addedto you.
(25:17):
You see, only those of us thathave submitted to Christ as king
who trust him as such can walkin the kingdom where this curse
is taken upon his head.
See, you have to understand herethat God really wants us to
(25:38):
reconcile all of us back to theway it was in the garden.
That's why he says this here.
He wants us to reconcile towhere we fall back on him and
trust him for everything.
For everything.
For what we're eating.
For what we're going to clothe.
That's the way it's going to bein the Millennial Kingdom.
We're going to trust in JesusChrist and in the Father to
provide everything for us.
(25:58):
And that's exactly what they'regoing to do.
It is his good pleasure to dothat for those of us that
believe.
And that's ultimately what hewants.
He gives us the example of thesparrows and the birds of the
air.
Because they don't sow and theydon't reap and they don't gather
stuff in the barns.
They don't even prepare fortomorrow.
They don't even think abouttomorrow.
They only think about right now.
And that's what God wants us todo.
You see, when he's mocked hereas king, they're not recognizing
(26:23):
his authority.
They're not putting their trustin him.
But because he was mocked asking, he's going to come back as
king of kings and lord of lords.
And ultimately, what's going tohappen is that we're going to
have that same trust, but we cando that now.
We don't have to wait for themillennial king, and we can put
our trust in Jesus Christ and inthe Father right now by the Holy
(26:43):
Spirit to be able to focus onhim and to recognize he has
everything Everything that weever could want.
And that no matter what happensin our life, our lives are in
his hands.
And that's what we have to getto.
Look, the world's going to gocrazy.
We know that.
But at the end of the day, if wecan focus our trust in him, it
really doesn't matter where wewalk, what we do.
What matters is that we'retrusting in him and that we have
(27:04):
our relationship right with him.
And if that's the case, then youcan walk in the kingdom of
heaven the way that Jesus Christdescribed.
So...
That's a key point here.
And it was after this that theybeat him again and took him to
be crucified.
But they said one more thing, hail king of the Jews.
We just talked about thismockery and how this mockery
allows him to be fulfilled inthe millennial kingdom as shown
(27:26):
in Psalm 2.
And look, we're going to stopthere for right now.
Next week, we'll look at Simonof Cyrene and then continue on
into the actual cross becausethere's a lot of things in the
cross there that we're going totalk about.
But like I said, we're going totake several episodes to really
look at the crucifixion and lookat a bunch of different things.
But there are a lot more topicsin this, but I just would hope
(27:47):
that you recognize Jesus Christas King of Kings and Lord of
Lords in your life.
He went to the cross for thatpurpose, that we might be
reconciled to the Father throughhim, and that we might also rule
and reign with him when hereturns.
So just make sure you're focusedon him.
Don't worry about everythingthat's going on.
Look, the time's short.
That's what everything's tellingus.
That's what everything shows us.
(28:07):
But focus on Jesus Christ, andyou will be okay.
Be about his business.
Be doing the things that hewants you to do and you will be
fine no matter what happensbecause what's the worst thing
that can happen to us?
Death?
Death may be the worst thingthat happens but then we go to
Jesus Christ and we spend all ofeternity with him if we're
believers.
So at the end of the day if youdon't know Christ if you're not
intimate with him I challengeyou to get intimate with him
(28:28):
real quick and in a hurry andthen we can go from there.
But at the end of the day I hopeyou got something out of this
but just remember this simpletruth the Father loves you Jesus
loves you and the Holy Spiritloves you.
God bless.
UNKNOWN (28:41):
Bye.
