UNKNOWN (00:00):
Thank you.
SPEAKER_00 (00:09):
Hello and welcome to
A Path to Redemption, the
podcast.
My name is Daniel Arona and justremember this simple truth.
The Father loves you, Jesusloves you, and the Holy Spirit
loves you.
Once again, I hope that you'vehad a great week.
I hope that you've had time tospend with the Lord in prayer
and also in his scripture.
Again, I know I say it everysingle week and it's like a
broken record at this point, butmake sure you're fostering that
relationship with him.
Make sure you're doing the work, putting in the work that needs
(00:31):
to happen in order to fosterthat relationship with him.
I recently just rereadPracticing the Presence of God
by Brother Lawrence and And in aconcept in there is about the
understanding that as the templeof Christ, you know, that we,
Christ say that the God is everpresent with us.
He's always with us.
We need to just understand hispresence is with us constantly.
(00:54):
And the way to do that is tofocus on him.
And if we focus on him, theneven the most menial tasks and
brother Lawrence was a, was acook in a kitchen, even the most
menial tasks will, we will findjoy in because we were doing it
onto him or with him.
So, I find it very interestingand I'm trying to do that myself
and I'm just going to tell youright now it's not easy and
(01:15):
Brother Lawrence in the bookactually says that it's not an
easy practice but one that ifmastered and if can that God
will show grace unto those thatseek him and it's really the
fulfillment of seek first mykingdom or seek the
righteousness and all theseother things will be added unto
you so it's really kind of thefulfillment of that but it's not
(01:37):
necessarily that God changes oranything else like that it's we
change we recognize his presencewe commune with him we become
one with him you know we do allof these things and really I
think that that intimacy iswhat's going to keep us through
particularly in the times thatare coming because the world is
getting absolutely crazy not tomention the wars some of the
(01:57):
things that the NATO chiefs aresaying about Russia and China
coordinating efforts to sparkWorld War 3 then you also have
the terrible terrible floodingin Texas and even now as I'm a
recording this podcast there'sthere's flooding in new mexico
where the river rose 20 feet inless than 30 minutes so we need
to be praying we need to bepraying for people please pray
(02:18):
for the families and those intexas and those in new mexico um
just devastating loss and justpray that the lord would comfort
them and and would strengthenthem um in the way that only
only god can god's the only onethat can move in that situation
um you know i do apologize forthis recording being a little
bit later than what i like itook a As I mentioned last week,
(02:41):
I was having surgery last week.
It was successful.
Still in a little bit of pain, but doing okay.
Doing pretty well.
So that's why this one is alittle late.
I thank you all for yourprayers.
I really truly do.
Everything was a successaccording to the doctors.
And I should be good to go.
So I just want to say thank youfor all the prayers and
(03:01):
everything.
And I want to thank the LordJesus Christ for getting me
through it as well.
Because without him we'renothing.
Without him we can't even walk.
It's like that old song, I can'teven walk without him holding my
hand.
So with all of that being said, last week we are still in
Matthew 27.
There's still a lot more to gothrough.
So last week we discussed thereconciliation of curses that
(03:24):
Jesus took on the cross.
While all of that was happening, there were several other things
that were also going on thatwe're going to kind of look at
relative to the crucifixion.
And then next week we're goingto look at what his death
actually accomplished.
And then also kind of whathappened in those three days
that he was in the belly of theearth, you know, just as was the
(03:45):
sign of Jonah at that time.
So we'll look at all of thatnext week, but there's some
loose ends that we need to tieup before we get into his actual
death and some other things thatwere happening on the cross at
this time as well.
But some housekeeping items.
Again, all of our scripturecomes from a New King James
Bible.
If you'd like a copy of a NewKing James Bible, feel free to
(04:06):
drop me a note atPathToRedemptionOhio at
gmail.com more than happy to getone into your hands also please
just remember my books out graceabounds if you'd like a copy of
that feel free to drop me a noteat path to redemption ohio at
gmail.com again more than happyto get one into your hands and
then finally do not take my wordfor it make sure that you are
studying to show yourselfapproved make sure that you are
(04:28):
praying about these things thati teach make sure that you're
the one finding out from theholy spirit exactly what's truth
and what's not and look i'lltell you that i'll never lie to
you i'll tell you that i'll walkout I walk everything that I
teach, and I absolutely do.
I walk everything I teach andpreach.
But at the end of the day, though, that's just my word.
And the best way to discern isthrough my prayer and asking the
(04:50):
Holy Spirit to help you andasking the Holy Spirit to tell
you what's true and what'sfalse.
So at that point in time, that'sbetween you and Him.
And look, I'm going to be heldaccountable for the words I say
and for the teachings I do inevery podcast I teach, in every
teaching I do at church, everymessage I preach at church,
every book I write, everythingthat I do.
that I do I'm going to be heldaccountable for because of the
(05:12):
what God's put in me and what Ifeel called to do so I don't
take it lightly but at the endof the day it's important that
you were putting in that workand especially as this age wraps
up so with that let's go aheadand jump on in Matthew 27 35
through 44 says then theycrucified him and divided his
garments casting lots that itmight be fulfilled which was
(05:34):
spoken by the prophet theydivided my garments among them
and for my clothing they castlots Sitting down, they kept
watch over him there.
Then they put up over his headthe accusation written against
him.
This is the Jesus, the King ofthe Jews.
Then the two robbers werecrucified with him, one on the
right and one on the left.
And those who passed byblasphemed him, wagging their
(05:56):
heads and saying, you whodestroyed the temple and build
it in three days, save yourself.
If you are the son of God, comedown from the cross.
Likewise, the chief priests alsomocking with the scribes and
elders said he saved others.
He's You know, this is a reallytelling tale of what happens in
(06:29):
the natural, and particularlywith Christians.
And Jesus walked through this,so we have to understand that
we're going to walk through thistoo.
The accusation that persecutiondidn't stop with the
crucifixion.
It kept going.
Even as Jesus is nailed to thattree, even as he is bloodied,
beaten, bruised, the accusationsdid not stop.
The reveling did not stop.
(06:49):
And this is a key point that wehave got to understand.
See, the world had won at thispoint.
Satan, this was his coup degrace, the crucifying of the
king of glory.
They had no idea what it meant, but they thought it was amazing.
Okay, boom, I'm going to goahead and kill the son of God.
And yet it wasn't even enoughfor them.
They had to completely humiliatehim in every way imaginable they
(07:11):
blasphemed him they shook theirheads mocked him for his words
mocked him for his positionevery even one being crucified
with him did this as well couldyou imagine being that man dying
on a cross going through thesame crucifixion because of the
crimes that you committed andthen here you are reveling this
guy next to you and rather thantrying to say you know what
(07:33):
maybe he is the son of God andmaybe I should repent and see
that's what's going to happen inthe end here too except it's not
going to come in the death andresurrection of Jesus Christ
it's going to come when JesusChrist parts the clouds and
comes down as the king of glorybecause the first advent leads
to the second advent and what doI mean by that Jesus is on the
(07:53):
cross he's providing redemptionreconciliation for all of
mankind through his death andresurrection but here you have a
man reveling him and saying lookif you're the son of man why
don't you bring yourself downbut at the end of the day that's
exactly what's going to happento the world Jesus is going to
judge this world according tothe book of Revelation.
(08:13):
We'll see the seal judgments.
We'll see the trumpet judgments.
Up until then, the world isgoing to continually reject him.
They're going to reject God.
They're going to reject him.
And they're going to mock God.
And they're going to mock inrevel in Jesus Christ and the
Holy Spirit as well.
And that's what's going tohappen at the end of this age.
(08:34):
So you see it here by a man whois set for destruction, who's
dying.
on the cross, right next toJesus Christ, doing that same
thing as the people will in thefuture who are going to be dying
because of the plagues and thejudgment in the book of
Revelation and because of theirrejection of Christ.
And look, this is going tocontinually happen because man
(08:55):
is only evil continually in hisheart.
If you really want to understandwhat's going on here in the
world right now, read the backhalf of Romans 1 and it'll tell
you.
It'll walk you through exactlywhat the road to the mind is to
the debased mind, as the NewKing James puts it.
And then it'll tell you all thethings that are happening right
(09:15):
now in this world and theapproval of those things that
are happening.
And it just shows you rightthere.
And all of that represents thefullness of iniquity.
So this is going to happen to ustoo.
I want you to understand that aswe go into the end of this age,
persecution is part of the costof following Christ.
We know that.
When we are being crucified orgoing through whatever it is the
(09:37):
Lord wants us to go through thatthe flesh may die people and
sometimes even church peoplewill say things like well he was
sinning so God is punishing himor he is getting what he
deserves thinking he's holierthan thou in all manner of other
things not realizing that itreally is the trial of our faith
that we may grow with God andinto his image and look I gave
(09:59):
you a couple of examples thathave been said to me personally
but at the end of the day eventhe man with the blinded eyes
the disciples asked him Well, who sinned that this man would
be blind?
And he said, no one did.
It was also that Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, may get glory.
So that's the same way our trialof faith is, right?
(10:20):
It doesn't mean that you sinned.
It doesn't mean that anyonesinned.
But it means that God is nowdealing with a certain area of
our life.
We have to go through the trialin order for our flesh to be
crucified.
But the reveling and theaccusations and all those things
will not stop while we're goingthrough that trial.
In fact, they'll be worse.
And sometimes they're worse fromchurch.
which we saw it from the Jewsand from Gentiles here, and
(10:42):
that's the way it kind ofhappens.
Well, he's going through thisbecause of X, Y, and Z.
Well, no, not really.
I'm going through it because Itold the Lord to take the parts
of me that are unworthy of him,to take them, kill them, and
resurrect them.
The moment that I said, Lord, come into my life and Lord over
me.
It is my reasonable service tooffer myself a living sacrifice,
(11:02):
holy and acceptable unto theLord, as Paul says in Romans
12.1.
So at the end of the day, if wedon't do that that we're not
performing our reasonableservice but it's not going to
stop the world and unfortunatelysometimes religious people from
saying well you did x y and zwe've got to understand that
we've got to walk through thatjesus walked through it and
we're going to have to as welland specifically though they
(11:26):
went and they mocked who he ishe's king priest and lamb and we
see that in the book ofrevelation you see jesus christ
first presented as high priestwhich is his current station to
the church walking amongst thechurches because he sits down at
the right hand of the fatherconstantly making intercession
for all of us and then you seehim as a lamb worthy to open up
(11:47):
the seals for the judgmentthat's because of his sacrifice
on the cross and the redemptionof mankind and the rejection of
those that did that then at thevery end you see him as king of
kings and lord of lords comingback that is the fullness of the
revelation of who christ is anda couple of seasons ago we
actually did i did a detailedpodcast on you know christ the
(12:08):
revelation of Christ Christ theLamb Christ the King and Christ
the High Priest as shown in thebook of Revelation so if you
want to you can go back and findthose podcasts and listen to
those it would be a really goodrefresher but they actually
persecuted him and reveled himbecause of his station and the
position that he earned and thatultimately was his from the
(12:29):
beginning of time see theymocked him about the temple and
rebuilding it in three days notrealizing he was changing the
temple from a physical templePaul, a Jew's Jew, recognized
this in 1 Corinthians 3, 16-17,where he says, You see, Jesus
(12:58):
Christ is still today the highpriest of the temple that we
are, which is his eternalpurpose.
Yet they mocked him over hisplace as high priest.
Now, Now, they also mocked himfor being the king of kings, or
the king of the Jews, I shouldsay.
And that's who he was.
He is the king of kings and thelord of lords.
(13:18):
We know that.
Even in the millennial kingdom,David's going to rule over
Jerusalem under Jesus Christ.
He will be the king over KingDavid.
And even David called him lord.
But regardless of all of that, they mocked him for being that.
Why?
Because they hung that sign overhim that said, this is Jesus
Christ, the king of the Jews.
Right?
And that when the they did that,it mocked his station and who he
(13:40):
was.
So they've mocked him as thehigh priest.
They've mocked him as the king.
And then finally, they mockedhim for being the sacrifice.
They said he saved others, buthe cannot save himself.
This is the mockery of him beingthe lamb.
He was not going to savehimself, but would walk through
this to bring salvation to theworld, to all of us that would
(14:03):
just believe on him, that wouldbelieve on him and confess with
our mouth and walk this thingout and You see, the persecution
that we face through this isgoing to go to the core of who
we are.
Satan does not pull any punches.
Here, Jesus was dying on thecross and now he's being reveled
about the very person he is.
This will happen to us.
(14:24):
We have to expect it.
Remember what Jesus said inMatthew 5, 11-12.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for greater So after this,
though, Matthew shows us anotherscene here of Jesus on the
(14:52):
cross, and this time having todo with Jesus and the Father.
So Matthew 27, 45-50 says, Andabout the ninth hour, Jesus
cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama
sababachni That is, God himselfcasting darkness over the land
(15:40):
of Israel.
We see why when Jesus cries out,My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me?
Now, it is at this point that Ipersonally believe that Jesus
bore all the sins of mankind.
Clearly, here, there was aseparation between God and
Jesus, or else Jesus would nothave said, My God, my God, why
have you forsaken me?
(16:01):
The separation is sin.
That is what created theseparation in the garden.
That is what eternally separatedPaul said in 2 Corinthians 5,
20-21, Now then, we areambassadors for Christ, as
(16:28):
though God were pleading throughus.
We implore you on Christ'sbehalf, be reconciled to God.
For he made him who knew no sinto be sin for us.
that we might become therighteousness of God in him.
He did not know sin, but hebecame sin.
And because of the nature of theholiness of the father, he
(16:48):
cannot have anything to do withsin.
So it was here that I believethat all my sins, all your sins
were put on Jesus Christ becauseit had to separate him from God.
Now he was still fully God andstill fully man.
I don't know how the mechanicsof it worked.
I don't know how any of thatworked.
I'm not even going to pretend totell you I do, but it's At some
point, there had to be aseparation, and the man who knew
(17:10):
no sin became sin.
And the Father cannot look uponsin.
He can't.
Even when he looks at us when weare saved, he looks upon us
through the lens of his Son,Jesus Christ, through the
righteous work that Jesus did.
That's how we are reconciled tothe Father.
We have no righteousness inourselves.
Our righteousness is onlythrough Christ Jesus.
(17:31):
That's why we pray to the Fatherthrough Jesus Christ.
But because of this, the lightdid not shine on earth And see,
this is why I personally believeabiding in the death of Jesus
Christ is so important.
This is why Romans 6-8 inGalatians deals so much with the
flesh being crucified to thecross of Jesus Christ.
(17:53):
And David said thisprophetically in Psalm 91, 1-2.
You see, there is no shadow ofthe Almighty God.
In all the depictions of theFather in Scripture, His
brightness cannot even bebeholden.
(18:14):
He told Moses, look, you can'teven bear the front of me, but I
will hide you in the cleft ofthe rock, and I will pass by
you, and you can see behind me.
At the end of the day, there isno shadow here, because even in
the new heaven and the newearth, God Himself is going to
provide that light.
Yet, did He say, David says toabide under the shadow of the
Almighty.
Jesus did that when he washanging on the cross and bearing
(18:36):
the sin of all mankind.
To dwell in the secret place ofthe Most High, we must abide in
the only thing that makes usrighteous.
That is the death of JesusChrist.
It is only here that ourcarnality dies to be resurrected
into the newness of who Christis.
That's a very important part.
That's why Paul said we mustreckon ourselves dead to sin.
(18:58):
That's why he said that we Wemust crucify the deeds of the
flesh.
That's why he said, I amcrucified with Christ.
Nevertheless, I live.
But yet it's not I live, butit's Christ that lives within
me.
He said all of these things, understanding that our spiritual
walk and our Christian walk mustbe rooted and grounded in the
death of Jesus Christ.
(19:19):
That is the only way foriniquity to be dealt with.
So to do that, that's how youdwell in the secret place of the
Most High.
And the way that I teach thiswhen I teach this lesson in more
detail is that look, youremotions, your will, your wants,
your desires, they don't matter.
Why?
Because if you are a dead man,if you're truly crucified with
Christ, a dead man has nodesires.
(19:40):
A dead man has no ambitions.
A dead man doesn't have any ofthat stuff.
Only thing that we are to beresurrected to is into the
service of Jesus Christ and intohis likeness.
That's why Paul, when he wrotesome of the epistles, said,
Paul, a bondservant to JesusChrist, he recognized his life
didn't matter.
What mattered was the work forChrist, and he did the work out
of love for the father and forthe Jesus who died on the cross
(20:05):
for him.
So that has to be our mentalityas well as we go through this
world.
Now the next thing here is theybelieve he cried for Elijah.
And this is a key piece here aswell.
The people were looking forElijah to return before the
Messiah.
This was prophesied in Malachi4, 5-6.
Behold, I will send you Elijahthe prophet before the coming of
(20:25):
the great and dreadful day ofthe Lord, and he will return the
hearts of the fathers to thechildren and the hearts of the
children to their fathers, lestI come and strike the earth with
a curse.
Yet Jesus said this wasfulfilled by John the Baptist in
Matthew 17, 11-13.
Jesus answered and said to them,Indeed, Elijah is coming first
and will restore all things.
(20:45):
But I say to you that Elijah hascome already, and they did not
know him, but did to himwhatever they wished.
Likewise, the Son of Man is alsoabout to suffer at their hands,
though the disciples understoodthat he spoke to them of John
the Baptist.
See, however, the Jews though, they rejected John the Baptist
along with Jesus Christ.
If they didn't accept the Son,they were never going to accept
(21:07):
the forerunner.
But as they were looking forElijah to come before the
Messiah, they said, look, let'swait and see if Elijah will
come.
Then I'll go ahead and believe.
See, that's the key here.
If our eyes are not focused onexactly what it needs to be
focused on, which is Christ, which is the Father, which is
doing the work that they areasking us to do, if they're not
(21:29):
focused where we need We willmiss the key points of his
coming, just the same way thatthe Jews did.
Our focus needs to be solelyupon him, solely upon him.
And if you get a chance, pleaseread the book, Practicing the
Presence of God, because that'sreally what it's all about.
Being solely focused on Jesus inevery aspect of your life and
(21:52):
allowing that even when you'redoing your tasks, even when
you're at work, even when you'redoing those things, still being
focused of him that we mayunderstand his presence.
And grasp it and praise him andworship him through the day in
which there is strength.
And guess what?
God inhabits the praises of hispeople.
So when you do it, it's going tobring you into further communion
with him and further intimacywith him.
(22:15):
So all of that is important aswe go into this age because we
don't want to be like the Jewsand miss exactly what God is
doing in this world.
So finally, the last point hereis after this, he cried with a
loud voice and yielded up hisspirit.
We know from John 19 30 what itwas that Jesus yelled.
So when Jesus had received thesour wine he said it is finished
(22:37):
and bowing his head he gave uphis spirit.
Now remember what that Jesussaid in John 10 18.
No one takes it from me but Ilay it down myself.
I have the power to lay it downand I have the power to take it
again.
This command I have receivedfrom my father.
Once the work was finished hewillfully gave up his spirit.
(22:59):
Now I want to be clear hereright now it drives me nuts when
I watch movies and and you'vegot Jesus on the cross and he
whispers it is finished and thenyou know it then he gives up the
ghost but here Matthew says hecried with a loud voice I
personally believe and that theythink there's scripture here to
prove this that Jesus yelled atthe lion of the tribe of Judah
(23:25):
the victory that he had in hisdeath because Paul even said if
they They had known what theywere going to do.
They would not have crucifiedthe King of Glory.
I truly believe that Jesusscreamed and yelled at the top
of his lungs, It is finished! Inthe loudest voice that you can
think of.
Why?
Because what was finished?
(23:45):
The plan of reconciliation.
Everything that Jesus bore.
The sin, the transgression, theiniquity, the guilt, the shame,
the curses.
All of it was born and nailed tothat tree that we may be
reconciled back to the Fatherthrough him.
That is why we prayed to God theFather in Jesus name only in his
righteousness could we possiblygo before him he had to wait
(24:07):
until the right time in theright moment as laid out in the
ultimate plan of the Father butthis was not a wimpy victory or
a wimpy it is finished becauseof what the pain and all that
suffering no he roared like thelion and the tribe of Judah that
he is that this work wasfinished because he knew he was
(24:28):
going to be glorified he knewthat he was going to sit down at
the right hand of his father heknew that the inheritance
promised to him is assured heknew all of those things the
moment that he was giving up hisghost willfully no one took his
life he willfully gave it up andhe had the power to take it up
again and he knew it andultimately he in understanding
(24:50):
all of that he shouted invictory it is finished this was
the key moment in human historythe key moment that we should
all be thankful that we shouldcry out to our Father and say,
thank you, thank you, thank youfor everything that's happened,
for everything that you've done.
And that is the key moment thatall of us hang on to.
(25:13):
It is the foundation of ourrelationship with God.
It is our foundation of ourrelationship in all things.
But at the end of the day, itwas the moment where Jesus
yelled and roared in triumph.
It is finished.
So I want you to think aboutthat this week.
because it is finished in yourlife if you are saved today
there's no generational curseson you if you are saved today
(25:36):
there there should be no bondageon you if you are saved today
there should be all of thesethings should be off of you
because you have a relationshipin jesus christ the only
question i have for you is thatwhy is your carnality holding on
to it if you yield your car yourflesh if you yield your
carnality to him he will dealwith it and he would don't you
(25:57):
don't get me wrong you're gonnago through a trial he's gonna
burn it and He's going to roastit on the altar, but he will
deal with it and you will comeout and you will come through it
as a completely differentperson.
You'll be able to raise yourhands and say, thank you, Lord,
for changing me into yourlikeness.
I'm telling you, this hashappened repeatedly in my life.
And when I teach about thenormal Christian walk, which is
(26:18):
what I'm talking about here, Italk about it from Psalm 23.
It's a psalm of life.
It's a psalm of life where wefind our rest.
We walk when Jesus tells us towalk, and then we stand in the
victory that he's given us.
You know, And then we'veovercome it forever.
And then we can go on to thenext aspect of our life.
But that's the normal Christianwalk.
And he's done it repeatedly, absolutely repeatedly in my
(26:41):
life.
Even right now, he told meprobably about a year ago that
he is taking me to an area in mylife that I've never been
before.
He said it's not going to begood, not going to be bad.
It's just something you're goingto have to walk through because
you've never had to deal withthese things before.
And that has been true in everysingle aspect of my life.
Whether it's my health, career, family, spiritual life, the
(27:04):
whole deal, it has beenabsolutely 100% true.
And look, I have learned a lot.
He has shaped me.
He has done a lot of things forme.
And at the end of the day, he'scontinuing to work on me, which
I am incredibly grateful for.
Because as long as he continuesto work on me, that means in his
will, that means I'm doing thethings that he's wanting me to
(27:24):
do.
And that he is perfecting me forsome reason in the future.
And look, and if it's It's justfor me to get more intimate with
him.
Perfect.
That is it.
I'm perfectly content with that.
Because just as Paul said, Ihave found that no matter what
state I'm in, they're with to becontent.
And that's what we have to do aswell.
So look, I hope you gotsomething out of this.
Next week we're going to talkabout what his death
(27:45):
accomplished and what happenedbetween the death and
resurrection, which is also verysignificant.
Like I said before we kind ofstarted this, we're never going
to fully understand what allJesus accomplished on that
cross.
until we get to glory.
And even then, I think he couldspend an eternity telling us all
the details about the thingsthat he accomplished on that
(28:08):
cross.
