Speaker 1 (00:21):
welcome my friends to
to the Pat's Peeps podcast as
we resume our broadcast day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hey, we're at Pat's Peeps.
What 211?
I am back on a Tuesday, february18, 2025, and I'm so happy
(00:41):
because, as I look out thestudio windows into the
beautiful foothills of NorthernCalifornia, it's sunshining.
I'm so happy because, as I lookout the studio windows into the
beautiful foothills of NorthernCalifornia, it's sunshine and
I'm loving it.
Still cool out, but somesunshine makes me feel good and
I'm feeling good.
That makes sense, because Ihaven't been feeling good.
(01:01):
I've had no energy.
Yesterday was a holiday, president's Day and I had no
energy.
Oh, I need to make a correctionon it.
Hold on a second.
I don't want to forget this.
I don't want to forget this andI said this Okay, all right, I
want to make sure that, becauseI almost forgot, but I wasn't
(01:24):
feeling very good last couple ofdays, last few days, thought I
had the flu, whatever, but Iknow I got the vaccination
anyhow, I'm not gonna get boggeddown into that, but suffice it
to say I'm just gonna saytoday's the first day I've had
been back to myself, today's thefirst day I've had energy and,
uh boy, it feels great againwith the sunshine.
(01:45):
You combine the energy with thesunshine, which may have
something to do with it.
I feel great.
So happy Tuesday to you.
Pat Walsh of the Pat Walsh Show, heard in Sacramento at KFPK
Radio and nationally andinternationally on your free
iHeart app, just like ourpodcast here, our Pat's Peeps
podcast, by the way.
Today, on the 18th of November, today is well, it's a lot of
(02:08):
different days today, like it'sNational Battery Day.
Oh, today is National DrinkWine Day.
I haven't, honestly.
I love well, I was going to sayI haven't had red wine in a
while, but that would be a lie.
I actually drank red wine withmy sister-in-law, mary, during
(02:30):
the Super Bowl this year.
Prior to that, I hadn't drankany red wine in a while.
Did I just use bad grammar?
I don't know Whatever, but itis National Drink Wine Day.
I only drink red.
Personally, I don't drink whitewine.
A lot of people prefer that.
I like it in the summer.
It's not as heavy.
(02:51):
Cow milked while flying in anairplane day today.
So that's right.
I don't even know what thatmeans, but in case you forgot, I
just want you to know.
It is national cow milked whileFlying in an Airplane Day Also,
not to forget and I'm sureeveryone has their cards out
already.
I certainly we talked aboutValentine's Day being a hallmark
(03:13):
holiday.
Right, happy Valentine's Day.
But today maybe you got yourhallmark cards out for Gambia
Independence Day.
So, again, we always saluteGambian independence.
Yeah, national Battery Day,it's National Crab Stuff
(03:34):
Flounder Day, and if that's notexciting enough, it's Pluto Day.
And it is also and this is oneof my favorites National Thumb
Appreciation Day.
They say thumbs exhibit theforms of emotion that the body
it is attached to feels.
Yeah, I'm kind of curious aboutthat, by the way.
(03:56):
How is that possible?
So your thumbs exhibit theforms of emotion that the body
it is attached to feels?
Well, I'll tell you what that'sinteresting to me, and why is
that?
Because and this is the truthmy thumbs are the most unusual
thumbs you will probably eversee.
Maybe you won't see my thumb,so you may not actually see my
(04:23):
thumbs.
That reminds me of the Zappasong.
Show me your thumb if you'rereally dumb.
Show me your thumb if you'rereally dumb, but my thumbs?
When I was in Cub Scouts andWeeblos and Boy Scouts, you had
to do the Boy Scout sign withyour hand, right.
(04:44):
Do you know the Boy Scout signwith your hand right?
And I couldn't do it because mythumb will not bend over the
palm of my hand.
Check yours out, it will right,it's got that joint in there
where the thumb just opposes, itgoes across the palm of your
hand.
I got to find this and minedoesn't do that Like.
(05:08):
My thumb does not bend, it doesnot oppose across my hand.
And I remember being in aplastic surgeon's office back in
the early 80s.
I got into a car accident, putmy face through a windshield in
a car accident.
It was terrible.
And I asked him when I wasgroggy and he was working,
(05:34):
trying to patch my eyelid backtogether.
I asked about my thumbs.
He said what's that now?
I said you my thumbs.
You know you're a plasticsurgeon, you ever see anything
like that.
He says, okay, when I'm doneI'm going to look at it.
So he looks at it and he'sgoing you've got to be kidding
me.
Your thumbs do not oppose.
I couldn't make the Boy Scoutthing because my thumb will not
touch my pinky on either hand.
(05:55):
I can't cross my thumb over totouch my pinky.
And he's looking at that, goingthis is I've never seen this
before, and the only otherperson that I know that has this
is my son.
So there you go, timothy.
And so in Boy Scouts, I'mtrying.
(06:16):
What do you mean?
You can't do it.
I go, I can't because you'dhave to have, like, your three
fingers up and then you'd havethe pinky resting on the palm of
your hand and then your thumbresting.
So you're just exposing thethree fingers for the Boy Scout
salute with your thumb layingacross the palm of your hand.
Well, I can't.
I cannot push my pinky downwhile I've got the three fingers
(06:39):
.
Like that it won't work.
Won't work.
I don't know.
Something is awry.
So I appreciate National ThumbDay.
Frank Zappa had a song about it.
He had included the word thumbs.
Why end up working in a gasstation?
Pat's peeps 211.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
It's all about the
fancy stuff.
If these guys can't pick upshort jobs, that's the way this
world.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I come from yeah,
zootaloers, let me see your
thumb.
Speaker 3 (07:18):

Let me see your thumb.
Let me see your thumb.
Let me see your thumb.
Let me see your thumb.
Let me see your thumb.
Let me see your thumb.
Let me see your thumb.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Let me see your thumb
.
Check out the guitar rip righthere by Frank.
Let me see your thumb.
(07:52):
If you're really dumb, show meyour thumb.
If you're really dumb, show meyour thumb.
If you're really dumb, show meyour thumb if you're dumb.
Frank would want you to knowthat today is crab stuffed
flounder day.
My ma taught me that I can comeup with a song with you.
Name the word I.
I've got a song for everything.
It's the first thing that cameto mind when I was talking about
(08:13):
thumbs.
Show me your thumb off.
You're really dumb.
Zoodle lures 1977.
Pets peeps 211.
Hey, you want us.
This is cool.
I spent all day figuring thisout yesterday.
I'm so proud of myself, by theway, so proud of myself.
It took me all day to do thisbecause I was stuck.
(08:34):
I couldn't figure it outbecause I got an Alexa as a gift
.
Uh-oh, I just said its name.
That's right.
You can't say the name Becauseit's listening, which is kind of
the weird thing.
Alexa listens.
(08:54):
But watch this.
Let me see if I can get it todo it.
I finally got it hooked up.
It took me like two and a halfhours.
Let me see if we can do thisAlexa play Pat's Peeps podcast.
Let's see what it does Playing.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Pat's Peeps podcast
from Amazon.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Music.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Here's the latest
episode, episode 210, today's
Valentine's Day specialChildhood card swapping delights
Valentine's.
Day humorous insights.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
And a genuine heart
of romance.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Check that out.
It's that simple.
You just say mm-hmm.
You know what?
Say your name and it plays mypodcast.
I just realized, when I'mtalking really loud, the mic
(09:49):
turned up.
There we go, I think I wasovermodulated.
Here we go, alexa, stop.
So isn't that cool.
You can just say that to your.
I don't want to do it againthere.
Hey, I was proud of myself.
(10:10):
It's that simple.
Same thing on your phone.
You say it into your phone.
Bam, some people are stillstuck trying to figure out how
to get a podcast.
It is literally that simple.
Very, very exciting, I thinktoday.
Speaking of exciting, I thinktoday are the a, is the a's
(10:32):
first spring training game.
I believe it is um the a's forspring training game.
Um, no, no, no, no, no.
I guess they're just practicingright now.
They're god, I love springtraining, like I mentioned
previously, but their firstspring training game is going to
be against the Padres Friday, this Friday, at Peoria Sports
(10:58):
Complex.
I love that little sportscomplex, man, it's beautiful.
In Scottsdale, excuse me, theA's are going to play their
first home game at Holt CampStadium in Mesa, so I guess
let's see They'll play their, let's see first spring training
game against the Padres Friday, the 22nd, but they played their
(11:20):
first home game in Mesa Saturday.
Oh, I see what they're saying.
So their first game will be the22nd and the first home game
will be against the Rockies onthe 23rd.
That's what I love about.
Another thing I love aboutgoing to spring training is that
you get the Giants, the Padres, the Dodgers, the White Sox All
(11:43):
of these teams are right there, either Camelback Ranch, or
they're out in Glendale, wherethe Dodgers and the White Sox
play in the same stadium outthere, which is a beautiful
stadium.
The most relaxing thing I'veever been to sports-wise was
going to a spring training gameat the Padres' place at ballpark
at spring training, and it wasthe most incredibly peaceful
(12:04):
spring day, wow.
Now, of course, the reason Ibring this up is, of course, the
A's.
I am centered in Sacramento, like I said earlier, kpk Radio,
but the A's can be playing theirhome games at Sutter Hill Park
in West Sacramento for at leastthe next three seasons.
It's scheduled to move to Vegas, but this is a chance for
Sacramento to show up and showwhat a baseball town really is,
(12:27):
what a baseball town we reallyare.
So let's support the A's.
They're not even going to becalled the Oakland A's because
they're not in Oakland, they'renot the Las Vegas A's, they're
not the Sacramento A's, they'rethe A's for now.
So let's support the athletics.
Speaking of support, I'm veryexcited to mention this.
(12:47):

Meanwhile, shark bites the handsoff a woman who was trying to I
don't know take a selfie withit.
A shark bit the hands off awoman trying to take a selfie
(19:32):
with it in the Caribbean orCaribbean, however you might
want to say it.
According to multiple reports,a 55-year-old tourist from
Canada was at Thompson CaveBeach in the Turks when the
Caicos Islands when sheattempted to get a photo with a
(19:52):
shark this February 7th.
Local authorities said shestrayed a few yards into the
water when she attempted toengage the six-foot shark to
take a selfie with the shark.
Selfie with the shark.
The shark, which had beenreported in the water 40 minutes
earlier, attacked the woman.
(20:13):
One arm was amputated below thewrist, the other halfway up her
forearm Again.
Now gosh at the risk of beinginsensitive, because I'm not,
and God forbid this shouldhappen to anyone you know, when
you say the shark attacked thewoman, I don't know.
(20:36):
It's a shark.
People had been warned and youknow you went out to take a
selfie with the shark.
I'm not so sure you can saywell, the shark attacked.
It's like like you were there.
The shark said hey, listen, there's a gal over there, I
think I'm gonna go attack her.
You went to take a selfie.
(20:57):
Now I wasn't there Again.
This is just according toreports.
Here's one from the Telegraph.
Her husband rushed into thewater to attempt to drive the
shark away before it couldstrike again.
How horrendous.
Other tourists responded byusing their clothes to attempt
to slow the bleeding.
The woman, who was notidentified, flown off the island
(21:18):
to receive medical care.
She had since returned to herhome in Canada for further
treatment.
They had to close the beach.
There was only one shark attacklast year in the Turks and the
Caicos.
One shark attack reportedlyincreased in recent years
(21:39):
because she took a selfie withit.
Now there were 88 confirmed orpotential shark bites recorded
globally last year by theInternational Shark Attack File.
This is at the University ofFlorida.
24 were provoked or occurredafter a human initiated the
(22:02):
contact with a shark.
So again, while I do feel badfor of course you would feel bad
, terrible for anyone who wasbitten by a shark.
So, again, while I do feel badfor of course you would feel bad
, terrible for anyone who wasbitten by a shark you know,
again, you, you provoked theattack, not the attack, you
(22:23):
provoked the shark.
Is how I see it, how somepeople see it.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I see it that way,
but maybe I have a big fear of
being attacked by a wild animal.
Is that a weird fear?
It'd be weirder if I had a fearof being attacked by a goat.
I guess, like sharks, I'mscared to death of sharks.
Man, watch that show Shark Week.
You ever watch that Good show.
It's basically a bunch of peoplewho for those of you who
haven't seen it that go swimmingwith sharks Horrible idea, and
(22:56):
I'm watching it.
This guy's in I think it wasSouth Africa or something and he
was swimming and a 15 footshark swam right by him.
I guess that diver had readsomewhere if that ever happens,
you punch the shark in the eyeand swim to the surface.
What I read, a different bookthat said take a crap in your
wetsuit and cry Punch the sharkand he does it.
(23:22):
He punches the shark in the eye.
Punch the shark and he does it.
He punches the shark in the eye.
15-foot shark Swims to thesurface of the water and looks
at his buddy that's filming andgoes.
Did you see that that shark cameout of nowhere?
I'm at home on my couch likeDude.
You're in the ocean.
A shark didn't come out ofnowhere.
(23:43):
You freaking came out ofnowhere.
Poor shark, she's going for ashark swim.
He goes back to his cave.
His buddies are like Hank.
What the hell happened to youreye?
That's a good shark name.
What happened here?
This human being came out ofnowhere, punched me in the
(24:10):
freaking eye.
It's a gay shark.
I think he read that book.
You could rarely say that ashark came out of nowhere.
Only time you can say thatmaybe you're in Palm Springs,
you know, camping with yourbuddies and you go to roast your
(24:31):
s'more Tiger shark snaps yourarm off.
That shark came out of nowhere.
Thanks a lot, you guys.
I'm Mark Takami.
Enjoy the show, mark Takami.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Pat's peeps 211.
Meanwhile, robert F KennedyJr's daughter suited up oh god,
suited up in cigarette pants, Idon't even know.
(25:09):
And Kyra favors Gucci forconfirmation.
I don't even know what I'msaying.
Honestly, I don't know what I'msaying.
This is at the White House, though apparently I don't even
know what I'm saying.
This is from.
What is this from?
I don't know.
Know what I'm saying.
This is from.
What is this from?
Do, do, do?
I don't know what this is.
Wwd, wwd, wwd reporting.
(25:33):
Let's see what is this story.
Robert F Kennedy Jr was sworn inas the new Secretary of Health
and Human Services Thursday.
He was accompanied by hisfamily members, including his
wife, cheryl Hines.
Really, cheryl Hines?
No, isn't Cheryl Hines?
(25:54):
Wait a minute.
Hold up, hold up, cheryl Hines, what?
Okay, wait a second, I'mtripping here for a moment.
So, robert F Kennedy, his wifeis Cheryl Hines.
Is that, like Cheryl Hines, theactress Cheryl Hines?
(26:16):
How did I not know this?
Is it the same Cheryl Hines?
Maybe it isn't, I don't know.
Daughter's kick and Kyra, didyou?
It is Cheryl Hines.
How did I not even know this?
Okay, anyhow, the sistersembraced contrasting looks for
(26:41):
the occasion which Trump hosted.
The Oval Office, right, kyraKennedy, robert F Kennedy Jr
shares with ex-wife MaryRichardson Kennedy opted for a
monochromatic outfit.
I just never read stuff likethis.
I can't even believe it.
Cream turtleneck I don't care.
What are cigarette pants, isall I want to know.
(27:01):
Opted for a classic silhouette.
I don't know what are cigarettepants, is all I want to know.
Opted for a classic silhouette.
I don't know what this means.
I shouldn't have even broughtthis up.
I didn't know I was going to gointo all this fashion garbage
but, um, I didn't know whatcigarette pants were.
And then, but you know what?
But in learning this, which Istill haven't learned, I still
don't know what they are.
What I did learn is it's CherylHines Is RFK's wife.
(27:26):
Alright, I gotta I tell you whenI Google or when I use Bing I
don't know I'm going to Bingthis.
I don't know what cigarettepants are.
Who can tell me Cigarette pants?
I've never heard of such athing.
I still don't know.
(27:47):
I honestly don't know what theyare.
I can't find a definition.
Anyhow, I can't spend that muchtime.
Oh wait, All right, hold onWomen's pants with straight,
very low, very narrow legs.
Oh God, I thought there wassomething so much more exciting
(28:09):
than that.
All right, scrap that wholestory.
Ah, too late.
I already did it.
I started a joke.
Hey, I pulled a record from theRare 45 collection today and I
will tell you this when I alwayssay my Rare 45 collection today
, and I will tell you this whenI always say rare, my rare 45
collection, I believe that thisrecord I'm holding in my hands
(28:30):
might be one of the rarest thatI own.
I'm even a little hesitant toeven put it on a turntable.
Okay, this is in a the standardradio station, dark green paper
sleeve.
I'm going to pull it out ofthere and look at it.
I got to tell you pleaseimagine, what I'm trying to tell
you.
This part's very important.
(28:51):
This record is in wonderfulshape, wonderful shape,
specialty.
Look at this.
Oh, this is so rare.
This is I hadn't even looked atthat part.
This is so, so rare that Icouldn't find anything on this
(29:13):
record in terms of anyinformation.
Even there might be somethingout there, but I can't find it
all right.
So let me describe what I'mseeing.
I'm looking at a record that isin absolutely beautiful
condition.
The record label is white.
It's a little dirty, it's alittle worn, but it's amazing.
(29:34):
Atlantic Recording Studios.
It's got a couple of radiostickers on there from the
stations.
One says 4030, one says 497,and the other says 1968.
And it says 45 RPM.
One of the reasons there's somany reasons that this has to be
one of the rarest records thatI own and I don't know how many
(29:56):
of these, literally how many ofthese, are even in existence
today.
I really need to find out, because there can't be many of
these that even exist.
They got it out so fast, to therate they wanted to get out to
the radio station so fast thatthey didn't even have time to
put the um, the Atlanticrecording studios actual printed
label Like they would standard.
You know, just like on any 45or any album.
(30:18):
You would just see the song onthere printed like right from
the studio or wherever this one.
Someone just took a typewriter.
The label was.
Someone took a typewriter andtyped onto this label and then
stuck it on the record and youcould even see it.
You can see the paper wheresomeone stuck it over the record
.
So the label, so the actuallabel under here, must be blank.
(30:41):
So this is a label stuck overanother label and it says the
name of the record right there.
Atco 6639.
If you flip this record over, the white label is blank.
There's no writing, there's nostickers, it's completely blank.
And the other side, you couldput it on a turntable.
(31:05):
You could put a needle on it,you could let it go across.
It'll go from start to finish, but there's nothing there, there
are no grooves.
It will just gently guide yourtone arm over to the center and
it'll stop.
It is blank.
So the label is blank and thevinyl is blank.
And I just noticed so the pardonme, like the little end track,
(31:31):
whatever the little thing iswhich you would call.
So if you put a needle on therecord it would start to play
and then there's a track, ablank area at the end of that
record.
When the tone arm hits that ittells that the record's done.
It's just that shiny black partof the record.
And a lot of times you'll seesomething scratched in there,
like record industry, I don'tknow what they are, little codes
(31:52):
and things.
But this one clearly sayssomeone scratched it in there,
mfg, manufactured by in bigwritten letters, someone like
scratched it in there Specialtyrecords, and flip it a little
further and it says back plate.
It just says back plate.
(32:12):
So this is super, super rare.
I really need to look more intothis record because, again, I
could even barely find anyinformation on this.
But I'll tell you about thesong Boy.
This group became huge butthere's a song written by this
(32:35):
group from the 1968 album Ideawhich was released as a single
in December that year.
It was not released as a singlein the UK, but buyers who could
not afford the album, well, uk,but buyers who could not afford
the album, well, that's whatbuyers who couldn't afford the
album.
They could buy a Polydorversion by Health Hampstead.
This was the last of thisgroup's singles to feature Vince
(33:00):
Maloney's guitar work as heleft the band early in December
after this song was released asa single.
The song's B-side, which againis not on this record, kilburn
Towers, except in France whereSwan Song was used.
This song, the A-side, waswritten by, well, two of the
(33:24):
three brothers You'll get itwhen I tell you what the name of
the brothers are Barry andMaurice, robin mainly Barry and
Maurice on the bridge, and songsfor the album were completed.
Idea album were completed onJune 20th and this was the last
(33:48):
to be recorded.
According to Robin Gibb of theBee Gees.
The melody of the song wasinspired by the sounds on board
an airplane.
The melody of this one heardaboard a British Airways.
Vickers Viscount, about 100miles from Essen, was one of
(34:09):
those old four-engine prop jobsthat seemed to drone the
passenger into a sort ofhypnotic trance.
Only with its this was it wasdifferent.
The droning, after a whileappeared to take the form of a
tune which mysteriously soundedlike a church choir.
So it was decided they accostedthe pilot, forced him to land in
the nearest village and rightthere in a small pub, they said
(34:32):
the Bee Gees finished the songwith Barry.
Actually it wasn't really avillage, it was a city.
It wasn't a pub, it was a hoteland they did not force the
pilot to land in a field.
But why ruin a perfectly goodstory, said robin gibb,
originally recording the kia gmajor.
(34:54):
But I don't want to get intoall that, I'm just going to play
it here.
Great tune.
Their sound changed over theyears but this showed how
versatile the Bee Gees were withthe song.
I always liked this one.
I Started a joke.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Which started the
whole world crying, but I didn't
see that the joke was on me.
Oh no, I started to cry, whichstarted the whole world laughing
(36:03):
.
Oh, if I'd only seen that thejoke was on me.
I looked at the skies Runningmy hands over my eyes and I fell
(36:34):
out of bed, hurting my headfrom things that I said Till I
finally died.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
By the way, I just
want to correct something I said
yesterday.
Well, on my Valentine's DayPats Peeps 210, it was Meg Ryan
and Billy Crystal in therestaurant doing that scene I
said sleepless in Seattle, ofcourse I meant when Harry met
Sally, that the joke was on me,so I thought it was appropriate
to say that right there in thatscene.
I said sleepless in Seattle, ofcourse I meant when Harry met
Sally, so I thought it wasappropriate to say that right
there, the joke was on me.
(37:09):
I blew it.
By the way, in another quickupdate.
I'm feeling better.
Back to my routine of stayingin shape.
I want to remind you I am stilldoing that and I hope you are
too.
I'm off for my run, hopefullydoing that, and I hope you are
too.
