As I take a look out my studiowindows into the beautiful
foothills of Northern California, where the weed eating woke me

(00:43):
up very early this morning, I'mlaying in bed.
I like to lay in bed.
We've got my window open.
I love that breeze coming in.
The weed eaters they'reeverything.
7.30 in the morning, god Go.
I mean, I understand we've gotto weed eat.
This property up here Everyonehas this long old weed.

(01:06):
It's a blessing, isn't it?
It's a blessing to be alive ona sunny spring Friday.
Temperatures are going to getlike to 102 or 103 today and
tomorrow.
I love the heat, I don't care.
Hope everyone can tolerate theheat.
By the way, let me introducemyself.

(01:27):
My name is Pat Walsh.
I'm also the host of the PatWalsh Radio Show on KFBK Radio
in Sacramento, 93.1 FM, 1530 AM,streaming live everywhere on
your free iHeart podcast.
Just like this.
Just like this podcast today.
Today is going to be and someof you are going to go well,

(01:50):
thank God for small favors, butthis might be a little shorter
of a podcast today because youknow one of our missions here at
the Pats Peeps, withoutbelaboring the point, is to
support small business.
So I'm headed down toSacramento today.
We're going to shoot video forone of my endorsements for a
small business, a Pats Peepsbusiness Excited about that

(02:11):
Always, anything I can do tohelp the small business, I'm
always excited about that.
By the way, today I pluckedanother record out of my 45
collection.
You know, a couple of days agoI said that you know it's not my
favorite favorite song but alot of you love it and it's just
a huge hit and uh.
And so I played it and it wasKarma Chameleon by Boy George,

(02:32):
the Culture Club.
And you know I'm not a fan,being honest, it's just a random
pluckage of the record from theuh collection.
And then yesterday on the showI did another one which again,
it's not like when I was growingup I was like, yeah, awesome,
this song is on right on bro.

(02:52):
No, I wasn't, you know, it wasJanice and I heard the news at
17.
You know, I thought I was sappyas a kid, I didn't hate it, I
understood it, you know.
But but that was yesterday'sfeatured record.
Now, today's record that Iplucked out from my 45
collection.
I don't like this song.

(03:13):
I'm sorry they're not all, they're not always going to be
ones that I appreciate, butagain, I know how many people
love this song.
It is beloved, it's iconic.
They used to play this on fmall the time.
This is like the shorterversion, but they used to play
this song on fm.
But you know, just thought Iwould set it up.

(03:34):
Now we have some good news againwith the pats peeps podcast.
Again with the pats peeps, notagain with the podcast.
Anyhow, thank you, I'm still soproud.
We're over 50,000 downloads foronly 270 episodes.
And you know what?

(03:54):
Again with no YouTube hooked upto this, like no video, it's
just audio, where we don't eventalk about a specific thing.
Oh my God, I'm so proud of thatand it would have happened if
it weren't for you and ourever-growing podcast family.
And you guys keep calling myradio show now and going Pat,
I'm loving the podcast.
I got another couple of calls onthat last night.

(04:15):
The more you do that and themore you go to patspeepscom,
which is so simple and savemoney by doing it, the bigger
this becomes.
So I really please again.
I know I keep saying it, but Ipromise you, it means so much to
me.
You know I do these every dayand to these businesses, if you

(04:36):
would just, and to you.
You know it's going to save youmoney.
Patspeepscom.
All right, enough of that.
The good news is and I can't.
We haven't finalized everythingon this yet, but here's what's
happening with the pats peepsnumber one my work, all right,
they.
They contacted me because theywant to do some, shall we say,
pats peeps gatherings.

(04:57):

We are planning to do patspeeps gatherings at the
California State Fair.

I can never remember which oneit is.
Let's find out.
Is it this one?

I mean that one's a lot betterthan if I said and we're going
to be on Studio 40.
Right, just the sound effectitself.

(07:10):
It means so much.
Stop it, thank you Anyhow.
So we're going to be promotingPat's Peeps.
Understand this when we'redoing these things all right,
these are things that I'mworking on to make sure that I'm
supporting local business.
And what we're doing here, ourmission, when we are at the fair
and we are doing my and whatwe're going to be doing is my

(07:33):
radio show.
When I say Pat's Peepsgatherings, by the way, I'm
talking about doing my radioshow from there.
So we're going to be invitingall these people to be part of
our you know our list.
We're going to have a livestudio audience.
Please I'm going to tell youthe dates Please come out there.
Let's get a huge mob of Pat'speeps out there.
It would be huge for me and forall of the businesses.

(07:53):
So when I'm doing this, it'srepresenting the business.
When I go on these TV shows,it's representing the businesses
.
When I talk about my podcast onthe radio show and here, it's
about the businesses because I'mhoping and I'm praying honestly
that some of you will go.
Okay, pat, you know what thatdoes sound pretty good.
I'm going to go to patspeepscom.
So we're going to be on Fox 40,on Studio 40, with Gary Gelfand

(08:38):

telling everyone at thisfabulous Sacramento Chamber of
Commerce what Pat's Peeps is allabout.
What an opportunity.
And again, I'll let you knowwhen all of these dates are set.
In stone Lay Tip, which isanother local group that

(09:02):
supports local businesses.
It is made up of localbusinesses.
They have asked me to be aspeaker at their group.
Thank you, thank you, my gosh, you guys.
Thank you so much.
See, this is what it wouldactually sound like if we had
the studio audience out there atthe fair like this.
We should have that many people.

(09:22):
Fair like this, yeah, we shouldhave that many people.
Someone said yesterday when Iwas, or a couple days ago when I
was I think it was pat's peeps256.
Have I even mentioned todaythat it's 272.
I don't even think I mentionedthat.
Pat's peeps 272.
Come on, oh, I'm gonna abusethese buttons.
Thank you, that's great.
Hey, now I said it was 156.

(09:45):
Yeah, that's right.
Instead of instead of, uh, 256or 265, I was saying 165.
Now I have no idea what I'mtalking about.
Thank you, that's.
What I needed is that lady'slingering laugh.

(10:05):
Did you hear that littlelingering smart ass laugh at the
end?
I can't believe I'm going totalk at the chamber and at late.
Tip.
Thank you, everyone.
Let's see what else is on mydocket today.
Ticket bastard.
Hi, welcome to ticket bastard.

(10:31):
Sorry, your call means a lot tous, but you know what?
We're a bunch of bastards, sowe're not gonna pick up and
you're gonna miss out on yourtickets.
Robin, the interrupter, was nothappy this morning when she was
apparently on hold with TicketBastard, or whatever.
It is trying to get tickets forthe Grateful Dead, and then she

(10:54):
did not get the tickets, as itturns out.
What a drag that is.
What are you kidding me?
She was on hold for a long time, or whatever.
Your call is very important tous.
Your expected wait time is onehour and 27 minutes.
They would never play great onhold music like this.

(11:17):
But she's trying to get ticketsto Jerry Garcia's birthday party
to go see the dead.
What'd she say?
It was like $240 a ticket.
Like $240 a ticket, what it'scoming up in, I believe August

(11:39):
Can't believe Jerry's been deadnow since 1995.
I can't believe Jerry's beendead now since 1995.
Wasn't that the same year asthe Macarena?
Ah, rest in peace, jerry.
So Robin is like she was veryemotional.
Robin, we're here to supportyou.

(12:00):
We care about you.
Robin.
She's like I couldn't, robin.
I couldn't get through.
I couldn't get through to what.
Were you on?
Get through to who?
Ticket Bastards?
Ha Hi, welcome to TicketBastards.
We'll have a bastard.
Get on your phone call as soonas the hells we can.

(12:25):
All right, bastard.
Remember George used to saythat in Seinfeld hey, you
bastards.
Was he talking with the Astros?
He was part of the Yankees.
Anyhow, don't worry Robin, allright, we'll get you tickets.
We'll figure it out.
We shall figure it out, ticketbastard.

(12:48):
Really cool to hear about.
Well, from a friend, mark Selig.
I heard from him today.
Mark Selig, he and I werecolleagues many years ago at
KPAY in Chico and Mark and Iused to do Live at Five at KPAY,

(13:11):
which was news and sort of youknow all-encompassing news and
weather and traffic and sportsand a bunch of chit-chat and all
of that.
And it was really awesome tosee that Mark, as he is driving
through Sacramento now hedoesn't live in the area but he

(13:32):
listens to my show after all ofthese years.
He was talking to Kitty O'Neill, who's also my colleague, who I
work with, and she sent mealong.
She forwarded this email abouthow much he loved the handoff
between Kitty O'Neill and myselfthat he listens to my show
every time he's in the area.
Man, I got to tell you Mark, thank you, longtime colleague

(13:54):
from way back, funny dude, justa great guy and used to do some
great dances, by the way, welaughed so hard.
Used to do the sprinkler andthe running man.
I don't know what you'd callall of these, but yeah, he says
the show's fantastic.
What you'd call all of these?

(14:14):
But yeah, he says the show'sfantastic.
He travels to Tahoe fairlyoften and tunes in the show.
Oh, what's this?
We just got a story here thatjust shot over.
Hold on a second.

(14:35):
Oh, oh, oh.
How sad.
This just popped up LorettaSwit, who won two Emmy Awards
playing Hot Lips Houlihan.
Margaret Houlihan, the headnurse of the surgical unit
during the Korean War on MASH,has passed away 87 years old.

(15:01):
Oh oh, no, that's sad.
I really loved her.
We'll definitely have to talkabout that on the show tonight.
Oh yeah, and I'm going to haveto wear my MASH shirt today in

(15:22):
her honor.
Ah well, that's sad news tohear that right now.
Hot Lips Houlihan, majorMargaret Houlihan oh, how about
a little kiss for me?
She didn't take any trash fromthese guys.
She was always interested inFrank, which I never understood

(15:44):
that.
I'm not going anywhere with you, frank.
This is the end of the line forus.
From now on, I'm number one, me, margaret Houlihan.
Aw, every soldier I deservebetter than you At this chest.
He's in pain, ms, one quarter,he'll be next to, no more.
You know, margaret hulahan, shecould be with frank and things
are goofing around.
That was the man, that was thebrilliance of that show.
They could be in the midst of,you know, hilarity and it's it's

(16:09):
everything's funny.
And then the next secondthere's patients coming in,
there's soldiers coming in, andeverything turns very serious.
You're a nurse, that's anhonorary thing, so you can boss
around a bunch of nurses, butnot men, not real soldiers.
Is that so well?
Let me tell you something, soldier, I'm damn proud of these
.
Nobody gave them to me, Iearned them and I'm just as much

(16:33):
a major as any other major.
Oh, wow, I'll definitely haveto talk about her on my show
tonight.
I'm really sorry to hear that.
The passing of Larissa Swit ohmy gosh, too bad, that is, yeah
anyhow.
So that just came across.

(16:53):
Listen.
Like I say, it's going to be asomewhat shortened version today
of the Pat's Peeps podcast.
For that I do apologize, butnot too much, because you know I
am going to help a business.
You know, john Fogerty, here'ssomething for you.

(17:13):
John Fogerty is going to bereleasing some re.
I don't know what would youcall them, I guess some reworked
, re-recorded Creedence classics.
Now these really have becomeclassics.
He's got a new album coming out.

(17:35):
He says he wanted to call itTaylor's version.
He says during a recent visitto New York I lobbied very much
to the record company, but maybehe's joking, whatever, but he's
going to be releasing I guessre-recording these Creedence

(17:55):
classics.
Fogarty says his label passedon the idea, then again had a
point on stage at New York'sBeacon Theater during the first
of his 80th birthday celebrationshows, fogarty announces
upcoming LP Legacy, theCreedence Clearwater Revival
Years.
This is due out August 22nd.
The album's 20 tracks are notjust covers of his best known

(18:16):
and beloved songs from hisCreedence days.
Rather, they're painstakingrecreations of the original
versions, down to Fogarty'ssinging and guitar parts and the
original rhythm section, starting with Up Around the Bend
, continuing through his bighits Proud Mary, who Will Stop
the Rain?
Bad Mood Rising, come Down onthe Corner, excuse me.
Porterville, a deep cut andBootleg Wow.

(18:39):
Now before I say gee, pleasedon't do this, I have two
opinions.
One, roger Waters, who justtried to redo the Dark Side of
the Moon, was an absolutepathetic joke.
Leave it alone.
Stop it already.
Don't do that.
It's horrible.
Who do you think you are?
I know you wrote the damn thing, but don't re-record something
that is perfection.

(19:01):
I feel the same way about a lotof these Creedence songs.
I definitely feel that wayabout a lot of these Creedence
songs.
I definitely feel that wayabout the Roger Waters
re-recording the Dark Side.
But if you listen to Pink Floyd, I mean, it's not Pink Floyd
but Peter Frampton who releasedsome acoustic versions of Lines
on my Face I Want to Show youthe Way and some other of his
classics.
He does an acoustic album ofthat.

(19:23):
It's really good.
So I'm torn.
I'm going to have to listen tothis.
It always is like please leaveit alone, then you hear it.
If they're trying to do it thesame way, that's one thing, but
if they're trying to do it in amuch different way, then that's
a little different to me.
Speaking of that and speakingof Creedence, I want to play a

(19:43):
little bit of this for you.
So there's this thing it'scalled the Reflex Revision
series, reflex Revision.
You can find this on YouTube.
It's the Revision Club remix, and so what they do is they take
an original track all right, aclassic track.
They add nothing to it.
They don't add any additionalsound of their own.

(20:05):
They don't put anything else inthere, except what they do is
they take the original musicthat was recorded in that song
and they just separate thetracks and they lay them down
differently, so they cannot addany of their own music, like I
say, but they just take theoriginal tracks and then remix
them in a certain way.

(20:26):
So here's a Creedence song doneby the Reflex Revision.
My only real criticism of thisand maybe I've said this before
in the podcast.
I'm going to start this like 34seconds in because the intros
are a little bit long for myliking.
Because the intros are a littlebit long for my liking.
I like a good intro but theykind of go on.
You can even hear it right now.

(20:47):
But check out how he reworksthis using only the original
tracks Really kind of modernizesfaint guitar in the background,

(21:18):
background vocals, bringingthem up and prominence, bringing
them up and prominence.
But again, the intro is just awee bit long.
We're at a minute and 30 intothe intro right now.
Now it kicks.
See, I like that, oh, I lovethe way they kick it in here,

(22:07):
wow, wow, taking the originalGuitar solo and putting it up

(22:54):
front.
Thank you, I love the way theyput the guitar back behind that
Doesn't that sound like?
It modernizes it, it updatesthe sound of the song.

(23:23):
Neither the Reflex Revision normyself own the rights to this,
so I just want to expose bothReflex Revision.
And he does it with a lot ofdifferent artists.
By the way, it's not justCreedence he does it with, like
Michael Jackson, marvin Gaye whoelse does he do this?
David Bowie Free, all right now.
I've not heard that one.
Uh, she's so many marvin gay,who else does he do this?
Uh, david bowie, free, allright now.

(23:47):
I've not heard that one.
Let's just take a little dipinto that.
See what he does with this.
Oh, listen to that, god.
What does that sound like?
What does that sound like?
What does that sound like?

(24:07):
Oh yeah, you know this is good, but remember the original.

(24:28):
Oh, that is so awesome.
The original kicks in with theinitial riff.
This one works up to it.
Oh yeah, oh wow, taking themiddle guitar and putting it up

(24:57):
front, it's pretty cool.
Again, long intro, rightAlready a minute 20.

(25:40):
They still haven't got to thebig riff.
Oh, my God, they still haven'tgot to it.
Anyhow, there's an idea whatI'm talking about.
I'm going to play my record now.
I'm going to play.
My God, they still haven't gotto it.
Anyhow, there's an idea whatI'm talking about.
I'm going to play my record now.
I'm going to play my record.
This one has a B-side.
Where did I get it?
Oh, here, it is All right.
This is a white record label.
This is on.
Columbia has a record.

(26:02):
Man, everything's been 1969 inmy conversations the last couple
of days.
Radio station sticker says 1969.
It's also got a red sticker onthere that says 53.
On the other side, no stickers, not for resale.
So these are promos.
The record is in beautifulcondition.
The label isn't in that great acondition but the vinyl is in

(26:25):
beautiful condition.
The label isn't in that great acondition but the vinyl is in
awesome condition.
All right, I'm going to playthis song for you.
This is again.
I just even growing up, itwasn't one of my favorites.
I'm just being honest, like Ialways am.
Written in December of 67,seattle Washington Manager
Matthew Katz had moved this bandthere to polish up their act at

(26:48):
a Seattle venue before bookingthem into San Francisco
nightclubs.
They were living in the atticof a Victorian home across the
street from Volunteer Park andthe band had inadequate food.
They had no transportationduring a rainy and cloudy,
cloudy seattle winter.
Uh, which this?
That's what this song is to me,kind of sort of it is.

(27:08):
It's perfect for a rainy andcloudy seattle winter.
Uh, the song evolved from thedepression right, that's what I
feel about of the band.
Circumstances and yearning tobe free uh, the song's repeated
chorus.
Well, I don't want to give itaway.
In.
Yearning to be free, the song'srepeated chorus.
Well, I don't want to give itaway, but they'd play this on FM

(27:31):
all the time.
I don't really recall itplaying on AM that much, but on
FM I would hear it.
It was arranged and produced byDavid Laflamme and sung as a
duet between him and the groupmember Patty Santos.
A duet between him and thegroup member Patty Santos
Prominent stylistic feature ofthe song's original arrangement,
multiple violin partsoverdubbed by La Flame, was

(27:53):
first released on the 1969 bandon the band's 1969 debut album
Became.
The band's signature tune, staple of FM album-oriented rock
, radio Right Went to number 47on the Billboard 200 album chart

(28:14):
.
Then, following the popularityof the album track, a single
version which I hold in my hand, edited, remixed for the radio
play, with a running time of 302, released October 4th 1969,
went to number three the week ofOctober 18th of 69.
A single never reached a widenational audience, only made it

(28:39):
to number 118 on billboards, uhunder the hot 100 chart, and
it's nearly a 10 minute longversion on the original or on
the uh carnegie hall version ofthis.
Without further ado, my friends,it is, and it actually reflects

(28:59):
what today is, because it is abeautiful day and the white bird
must fly or it shall die.
I always pictured what theseguys look like in my mind.

(29:35):
I've never seen them.
In my mind they look like theman and the lady that hosted the

(29:55):
New Zoo Review.
Anyone remember them?
Guy got the horn-rimmed glasses, plaid pants, white belt and a
flute.
To the darkened sky in its rain.
She's got like a guitar in herhand.
A white bird just sits in hercage.

(30:21):
Unknown White bird must fly.
She will die, oh man, she willdie.
No, she's got the violin.
That's not the guitar, theviolin, she's got the violin.
I don't even know if that'strue, I'm just picturing this in

(30:41):
my violin.
That's not the guitar, theviolin, she's got the violin.
I don't even know if that'strue, I'm just picturing this in
my mind.
The host of the Newsy Review.
Remember that show With threedelightful animals and fun with
what they do.
Thank you for listening toPat's Peeps 272.
How appropriate to say have abeautiful day and we'll see you.

(31:06):
On the radio, the white birddreams of the aspen tree With
its dying knees Turning gold.
But the white man
