Speaker 1 (00:11):
Pat's Peach, number
336 on a Tuesday.
Look at the deer run.
I just scared a whole bunch ofdeer.
What do you call a big group ofdeer?
It's not a herd of deer.
(00:33):
Hi, I'm walking on my property.
I'm going to take a walk todayfor Pat's Peeps 336.
That's right, my friends, onthis beautiful day this is what.
September 23rd, second day offall, it's another hot one.
It's, I don't know, probablyinto the lower to mid-90s.
I guess I haven't reallychecked, but I say you know what
(00:53):
?
Two birds, one stone again.
I'm going to get out here andI'm going to take my walk and
enjoy some of this beautiful day.
I really want to get thatphysical activity.
I was talking about that.
How are you?
Whatever you are, whateveryou're doing, wherever you're
listening, hoping that you'rehaving a fabulous day.
(01:16):
I'll be perfectly honest withyou here.
My day did not start off great.
I had a doctor's appointmentand I'll share something with
you.
Just, hopefully I'll be allright.
No big scare.
No big whoop.
Who used to say that?
No big whoop who used to alwayssay that?
(01:39):
God, someone will tell me itwas a female comedian.
No big whoop, all of a suddenit's facing anyhow, but I hope
it's not any others.
Uh, I'm gonna go get.
Uh, I'm not even a sunworshiper, but I I have a little
something.
I need to get checked on, alittle lesion on my neck, so I
will go in this morning.
(01:59):
Um, you know, I pray that it'snothing big, but that's what it
is and I just share that withyou because you know I'm very
open and honest.
So I drive all the way toFolsom is the point.
You know I pay for my insurance.
I just remember no big whoop, mike Myers, coffee talk, thank
(02:22):
you.
Every single month I drive allthe way to Folsom.
That's not just a hop, a skipand a jump from where I live up
here in my mystery hut in theforest, but it's significant
ways.
It's a 40-minute drive,45-minute drive, almost an hour,
quite frankly.
(02:43):
And I get there and right awayissues you ever go to the doctor
.
And then the next thing youknow how can I have your
insurance card?
Oh, I see you're a pay by.
Uh, you're just uh, you know, just a pay customer.
So what?
No, I have insurance.
Well, we don't have yourinsurance.
(03:03):
And I've been going to thisdoctor's office for I had the
same doctor for over 20 years.
He's no longer there, which Imiss him so much.
I hate when that happens, butI've been going to this office
for probably 25 years.
Hi there horse, a lot ofbeautiful horses out here, out
in that sunshine, out grazing.
(03:25):
And so I try to call myinsurance company while I'm in
the office.
Well, shall I cancel yourappointment?
Oh, you mean the one?
I just drove 45 minutes to gethere and I've got a scary mark
on my neck.
Sure, why not put this off alittle while longer?
You know, I said I've beencoming here since, you know,
(03:47):
probably 2000, 2001.
Maybe 1999.
And I've had the same insurancefor the entire time.
But suddenly you can't find myinsurance.
So I literally get turned away.
(04:07):
So now I have to drive back.
So I drive back to the mysteryhut up in the woods, quite
frankly.
Okay, I'm at the train trestle.
Let the car go through.
It's probably a good thing.
I mean, it's not a good thing.
I mean it's not a good thing, but what I'm going to say is
(04:30):
Probably a good thing.
They didn't take my bloodpressure right then, because I
can't imagine that it would havebeen good.
So I try to keep in mind thatgetting upset only causes you
(04:53):
harm, and you know I don't getthat upset that often.
But in this case, you know Iwasn't boyly mad, but yeah, I'm
not going to lie, I was upset.
I'm throwing out a good choice,a good montage of a sequence
(05:14):
there of curse words to myself.
No one else can hear it.
So the blood pressureskyrockets.
I'm sure, and it's easy for meto say it now.
You know, when occasionallythat time arises, you're like oh
yeah, stay calm.
Sure, it's like saying asyou're eating a donut, you know,
(05:34):
starting tomorrow I am gonna goon a diet.
No doubt about it, no donuts.
It's easy to say why you'redoing it, you know, anyhow, just
depends on the situation.
But so the result is can't getthrough to the insurance company
(05:57):
.
Finally did.
And then this wonderful ladycould not have been nicer helps
me, she's going to give me theinsurance card, got it sent to
me, emailed it to me for thetemporary.
How you doing Someone elsewalking down the road here.
(06:18):
So they emailed me a temporaryand then they'll send me the
cards in the mail which I shouldhave had already.
I have to stop here in theshade.
There's a car going by.
So anyhow, there you go.
(06:39):
It started off bad, bad and mad.
But you know what?
There's a lot of people outthere that I know care, we care
for each other and, uh, when youput my frustration of today and
you combine it with all thesecars, and you combine that with
(07:06):
the sheer and utter frustrationI had last night on my radio
show, by the way, pat Walsh, thehost of the Pat Walsh radio
show Then that is you know, heck, that was 12 hours other than
sleeping.
Or 15 hours heck, that was 12hours other than sleeping.
(07:28):
15 hours, whatever of maddening, chaos and sheer frustration
mixed with some anger, all ofthat.
So here I am, out walkingbecause it's good for you I said
it on my other podcast good forthe soul, good for the heart.
(07:49):
So what do I do?
I need to come up with this.
Plus, it just feels so good, tobe honest, it feels so nice out
here.
I don't know what that Irishtemper is, but I've heard that
that is.
You know, you're pretty and I'mIrish by Irish descent, irish
(08:13):
American, american of Irishdescent.
I prefer to say it that way,but I think that's when you're
pretty calm for the most part, you're not walking around raging
or nothing, you can actuallytuck away a lot of frustration
(08:35):
and such, and then when itfinally comes to that boiling
point, like a teapot or apressure cooker or whatever you
know, it can go off for a moment, release that, that pressure.
And you know, heck, if you'redoing that to yourself and no
(09:03):
one sees it, whatever, but youare harming yourself.
So there you go.
Transparency.
It's all about transparency, myfriends, and you know, the fact
is I'm not a preachy guy.
I can only imagine there'sother people.
I can only imagine there'sother people, those of you who
(09:30):
perhaps feel the same way orkind of understand and we just
talk about.
That Makes you think for asecond.
All right, I'm coming up to theballpark again, like I did a
couple a few podcasts ago whenthey were mowing it out here.
It's so beautiful, a littleshade, that feels good.
It feels so good to get outhere and do this.
It's like my lungs and my heartare like, hey, now wait what
(09:52):
we're going to move.
We're going to move today.
All right, let's do this.
And it starts craving more.
You know on that note, you knowon that note something very
different, but I'll say way fromthat to this thought I had.
(10:12):
You know, it wasn't until oh Idon't know last month, maybe
when this guy, tim Walz, who wason the ticket with Kamala
Harris in line, to perhapsbecome the next vice president
of the United States.
To be perfectly honest with youand I'm not going to go down
(10:39):
the political route too muchhere, except to say this dude,
who, in my opinion, is just acomplete nutter moron he's the
first person that I ever heardthe term doom scrolling.
I was doom scrolling on myphone this morning.
You said remember that, hopingto see that Donald Trump had
been killed.
(10:59):
Remember that?
Hi, pardon me.
No, I'm not on the phone.
No, I'm talking to you.
You know what I'm doing.
I'm doing a podcast.
I do a podcast every day andsometimes, you know, I feel I
need to do the, do the workoutwhile I'm doing the podcast,
(11:19):
because I only have so much timein my day.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Really, I know and I
find, as I've gotten older, time
accelerates and all of a suddenit's like I can't believe it's
Wednesday already, right.
I can't believe it's threeo'clock already, right.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
My name's Pat, by the
way, Hi Pat.
I'm Linda Nice to meet you,Linda.
You work for the.
Oh, this is for I'm a LosAngeles Rams fan, for LA Los
Angeles Fire Department, I see,but uh, I see what's the podcast
about.
My podcast.
Well, you're part of it rightnow, linda.
Isn't that nice?
Oh, I love that let's talkabout right now I'm talking
(11:53):
about.
I'm in the middle of talkingabout how coming out here and
doing things like this andmeeting nice people like you
kind of lift your spirits alittle bit.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
You know it's true,
doesn't it?
It is true, I know it'simportant to interact with the
world around you, with people.
Yeah, you know, I spend toomuch time, entirely too much
time, by myself.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Well, is that right?
Yeah, that's a shame.
You seem like a delightfulperson.
Thank you, oh my gosh, I haveso much work to do.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Everybody knows me as
being down here with my two
dogs, and one of my dogs died onSunday.
Oh my gosh, we're just bothtrying to get over it.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
What do you mean?
Everyone knows you from beingdown here.
What do you mean by that?
Speaker 2 (12:30):
I've been here every
day for six and a half years.
I live close by oh.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
I see, okay, oh good.
Good, I'm glad to hear you'renot living in the park, because
you don't seem like that.
Oh no, I don't live in the park.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Who is this beautiful
guy or gal?
She's a girl, girl.
What's?
Her name Chloe, chloe, hi,chloe.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
What kind of dog?
Golden Retriever.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yellow Lab.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yellow Lab.
What a beautiful Chloe, you areso pretty.
Does she chase the ball?
Can I throw the ball to her?
Chloe, can I throw the ball,Chloe, Chloe, can I throw the
ball?
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Chloe, let me see the
ball.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Let me see the ball
here.
Let me see the ball, ready, chloe.
Well, chloe doesn't want togive it to me, so that's alright
, chloe, it's nice to meet you.
Oh, now you're gonna let me doit.
All right, here we go, chloe, ready, chloe, ready, here we go.
(13:27):
Ready, ready, here we go, goget it.
Oh, look at Chloe, she loves it, huh.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Now she's got another
one to grab too.
She ran with one and had todrop it, she drives it like the
second before she grabs theother one.
But she loves to chase theballs and she does these
completely unnecessaryspectacular leaps in the air.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Really.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, normally.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Chloe, did you see
this?
Where's the leap in the air?
Let me see.
Oh, she took the ball.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
I would have had to
do the leap in the air, oh there
you go there you go.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Is she going to do
the leap in the air?
Chloe does an incredible leap.
Maybe I'll have to close theshow with Elton John Chloe.
Anyone know that song by EltonJohn?
Elton John, chloe.
You know the song Chloe byElton John?
I do.
You should check that outsometime.
It's a beautiful song,underrated by Elton John.
Now will Chloe do thismagnificent jump?
What a pleasure to run intoLindainda at the park.
(14:17):
Linda and chloe, all right, oh,she's got this thing to fling
the ball with.
Oh, this is great.
Look at this.
Oh, my god, look at that.
All right, there we go, jump, jump.
Oh, she's fantastic.
Linda, nice to meet you.
Have a blessed day.
Okay, we'll see you out here atthe park again, chloe, pleasure
(14:40):
, pleasure to meet you too.
Oh, my gosh, that's fantastic.
Enjoy your day.
Oh, man, see that.
I love that.
I was just getting ready to saythat Not only I was talking
about Tim Walls, and then shejust brightened up my day.
(15:02):
Linda and Chloe.
You know my point was going tobe about Tim Walls.
You know he says oh, I got upthis morning and I was doom
scrolling and I thought what areyou talking about?
What is doom scrolling?
What are you talking about.
What is doom scrolling?
I guess I'm just not quite aship as Tim Walz, who can work on
(15:27):
truck and kick your ass, as hesaid, but I thought about that
Because he was rooting forDonald Trump to be dead.
He thought he could wake up anddoom scroll, remember that, and
that Donald Trump would be dead.
And he said, oh, someday, tohis audience's delight, as they
chuckled.
And a couple of days later, afew days later, which is what
(15:47):
I'm going to pivot to, and I'mgoing to do this on my show
tonight and take calls aboutthis Doom scrolling.
You know, you know what?
I did a little research.
I always like to do my research.
(16:09):
Doom scrolling A very, veryharmful thing.
First of all, my question, without even doing any research,
is why?
Why are you doing that?
Is it simply for the sort ofthe novelty of it?
You know, the desire to seethings that are, I don't know,
(16:32):
terrible or crazy, or I don'tknow what that desire is to, I
guess, as a novelty, or seeingdanger now, so, granted, I watch
things that could be considereddanger.
(16:54):
I mean, come on, I think we alldo, we're all, I'm sure, guilty
of that.
If you want to say guilty, Imean, it's just part of watching
a movie or watching the news orwatching YouTube or whatever,
unless you're, you know, lookingat rainbow videos and little
kitty cats you know petting catsor something I don't know but
sometimes there's going to bedanger, sometimes it's going to
(17:16):
be scary, but the idea that youwant to wake up in the morning
and just start getting thatfeeling of doom and danger is
kind of strange.
But then you know what they sayabout it, about doom scrolling.
It can be harmful for severalreasons.
Oh, we are back here with Lindaand Chloe, pardon me.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
There's a whole
community of local people who
bring their dogs here every day.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
And you'll meet Tom
in a few minutes, and his dog,
carmen, like Carmen Guia, ohokay.
He used to run a Volkswagenparts store oh, okay, few
minutes and his dog, carmen, like Carmen Diaz.
Oh okay, oh okay.
I sent him a text and saidChloe needs to play with her
buddy.
Oh well, I'll keep an eye outfor him.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Thank you, carmen and
Chloe.
So they say that it can beharmful for your mental health.
It can create anxiety, it cancreate depression.
I think some people feed off ofthat.
(18:27):
I don't know, maybe I play intothat.
I'm not sure, because I don'tdoom scroll or nothing like that
, but I will find myselfwatching on YouTube things
occasionally that are thingsthat I would never do, because
I'm so fascinated.
I don't want to see doom, that's not what I'm looking for.
But when I see someonespelunking, for instance, and
they're way below the earth andthey're fitting between these
(18:49):
tight crevasses and I'm thinkingyou've got to be kidding me,
how do you do this?
Are you how?
That is so dangerous?
I don't understand cave diving,for instance.
Uh, you know, I'm fascinated bythese things and there's
certain things like thatclimbing k2.
These are things I would not do.
Uh, wings, no.
(19:11):
So I will watch those whichinvolve danger and all that, but
I'm not looking for people todie, I'm not looking for nothing
like that.
So I don't really get thatanxiety or anything and I don't
sit and watch it for very long.
When I do watch that, it canalso, they say, cause physical
trauma, like headaches.
It can make you nauseous, itcan create muscle tension and it
(19:37):
can create high blood pressure.
That's the last thing we need.
Certainly I do.
It can affect productivity, itcan affect focus, they say With
decreased motivation, poorconcentration.
With decreased motivation, poorconcentration and difficulty
(20:00):
with professional tasks and such.
So I don't think it's affectingme that way, because I don't
really doom scroll and I seem tobe working a lot and I'm happy.
And a desire for control.
They say that maybe you will bein control if something
terrible ever happens.
If you decide one day you'regoing to jump in a wingsuit,
(20:21):
you'll understand, you'll haveknown this.
If you're climbing K2 andputting yourself at extreme risk
, you'll know oh gosh, I've seenthis, I must be in control
because I've seen this somehow, but anyhow, I've seen this, I
must be in control because I'veseen this somehow, but anyhow.
And then, finally, the releaseof dopamine.
(20:41):
True, my point is, if youreally want to release dopamine
and serotonin, make yourselffeel good.
I think the idea is to get outand do exactly what I'm doing
right now In your own way.
Next thing is going to berunning.
I'm going to do poles, as theyused to say and still say in
(21:02):
baseball.
I'm going to run poles, pole topole, left field to right field
pole.
I'll get to that point rightnow Only because I'm doing my
podcast.
I'm really just doing fastwalking, but I also include
running.
That's how you release dopamineand serotonin and make yourself
happy and give yourself thegift of fitness and endurance
(21:28):
and health.
So here's to your health, here's to Linda's health.
So here's to your health,here's to Linda's health, here's
to Chloe's health.
Oh, there you go.
There's Carmen.
You walk faster than I do.
I could tell, oh, I'm trying toget my fast walking in here.
I can't do my podcast when I'mrunning, so I just do the fast
(21:49):
walking.
This must be Carmen.
Huh, I'm Carmen.
Well, I don't know nothingabout nothing podcast from
running, so I just do the fastwalking.
This must be Carmen.
Huh, how are you?
Good?
Good, I was told Carmen, you,you and Carmen will be going to
the park.
Hi, carmen, oh, my gosh, what abeautiful dog, what kind of dog.
Hi, there, hi, sweet, hey, well, there, hi, hey, you're sweet.
(22:12):
Hey, well, it's nice to meetyou.
I'm Pat, by the way.
Okay, nice to meet you.
I'll see you at the park again.
All right, linda, okay, are youdoing a podcast.
Yeah, I'm doing a podcastBecause you're wearing LASD.
Why is that?
It means he is a Dodgers fan.
(22:33):
Dodgers and Rams I can't befriends with them.
I'm sorry, that's okay.
It's hard to be friends withpeople whose team you dominate,
like the Dodgers do this year.
It's kind of.
You know, this year's beenpretty bad, yeah, so I always
have a good comeback for that.
Anyhow, see, I can already tellby that comment right there
(22:54):
that I, like you, have a blessedday.
You guys, see, you're killingthe kindness.
They give you a bad time ifyou're a dodger or a rampant,
and then you just kill thekindness, baby.
Okay, so, listen, I'm going tohave to get my dopamine, get my
(23:15):
serotonin, when I go back.
I think I'll play, just for ourfriend Chloe there, a song that
I'd forgotten about for sometime by Elton John Chloe, chloe,
and we'll dedicate that to ourlittle dog family back there
(23:35):
today.
Alright, so with that in mind, let's see.
Whoo, okay, with that in mind,my friends, pat, back to you in
the studio on Pat's Peeps 335,336.
Yep, thank you, pat.
I appreciate that and good job,by the way.
(23:57):
Good job so, pat.
I'm back in the studio here, the Pat Walsh, pat's Peeps
studio and, as promised, Ithought you know, let me play
this song, chloe, and I rememberthis.
This was introduced to me whenI was going to Chico State back
in 1990, 91.
And one of the lovely ladies inthe office there by the name of
(24:20):
Chloe introduced me to thissong.
And Chloe, wherever you aretoday, what a sweet lady she was
.
There were a couple of ladiesin that office that were just
wonderful, wonderful people andI still think about them and
we're talking again 1991.
(24:40):
This came out on Elton John's15th studio album, released May
of 81, geffen Records.
That was Elton's first releasefor that label that was in the
US, the Rocket Record Companyand all the other territories.
It was the first album by EltonJohn to be produced by Chris
Thomas, who then went on toproduce many of his albums.
(25:03):
Four songs were written byBernie Toppin.
Contains material written byGary Osborne, tom Robinson.
Let's get to it.
Chloe, pats Peeps 336.
Pats Peeps 336.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
How can you're so
understanding?
When I tell you all the liesand pretending to believe them.
See through all my lies, all mylies, see through all my alibis
(25:56):
and I need you more than everand I want you till the end, oh
(26:18):
yeah.
