Speaker 1 (00:12):
Oh, hello, I'm
starting off out of breath on
Pat's Peeps 338.
Maybe we'll call this episodeToday's Peep Is out of breath,
or we could call it Today's Peepcontinues to Be motivated and
(00:34):
work hard I am out on my walkagain or leaves you breathless
Because I have a lot to do today, Some big things in regards to
Pat's Peeps.
So today is a Thursday.
This is what day is this?
The 25th?
The 25th of September 2025.
(00:58):
I was the only.
It's going to be a positive day.
It's going to be a positive day.
The only negative I can't saynegative, to use that expression
.
We used to use a lot the onlybummer thank you to Gail for
(01:22):
that, reminding me of that termbummer Is that I will not be
able to see Robin Trower thisevening, Robin Trower who is
playing at the Rockland QuarryTheater in Sacramento or at
Rockland, which is a beautifullittle venue.
I'm going to pause for a second, so I'm not completely out of
(01:45):
breath.
By the way, I think yesterdayit may have been the first time
I ever signed on to my podcastwhere I didn't mention what the
weather was like, and I laterthought about that.
I always try to give you theweather what it's like on these
days.
Why do I do that?
Because, well, I guess I havethis natural curiosity.
I used to do this.
I had a diary, believe it ornot, when I was a teenager and I
(02:09):
wanted to write down everythingI did during that day, what I
ate, what the weather was like, what I did, Just so I could look
back on it and go, oh, yeah, Iremember that day, I remember
doing that and I still have someof those diaries from all these
years later, when I was 16.
And then I did another one whenI was 26 into 27 years old, and
(02:33):
I could go back and flip thosepages and go, yeah, I remember
that.
Oh, and that's what I had fordinner.
This is what the weather waslike.
So it's just a weird littlething for me.
So today it's overcast, it'scooler, it looks like I don't
(02:55):
know, maybe we're in the 70s,but it's beautiful.
Love California for the weatheranyhow.
But I think in the next coupleof days it's gonna get back to
some warm temperatures.
And then I was looking ahead atthe weather forecast.
(03:16):
Looks like we've got someclouds and possibly rain in the
weather forecast coming up nextweek.
Anyhow, by the way, my name isPat Walsh.
I'm the host of the Pat WalshShow, as heard 7 to 10 pm,
Monday through Friday KFPK 93.1FM, 1530 am.
(03:36):
Except for last night, thisweek we've been having a lot of
technical difficulties.
Remember that on TV way backwhen, If you had a technical
issue on TV they'd show youwe're sorry, we're having
technical issues and it might gobeep, start playing that
annoying tone.
I should start doing that.
(03:58):
Oh boy, Speaking of tones, Iwas talking about Robin Trower
and I'm going to miss that show.
And it's days like this whereit's kind of oh, you know, my
moods change musically.
I don't know about you, but mymoods will change musically
depending on the weather.
So when it's been hot for awhile, like it has been, I
(04:20):
thought I'd throw the tone infor you.
Now we have these kind of niceclouds here, I like to or I
should say well, I like tolisten to Robert Trower.
It's one of the things when itstarts raining, the mood will
change too.
But on a day like this, to meone of the greatest albums of
(04:41):
all time, I will put this in mytop five.
Certainly in my top ten ofgreatest rock and roll albums Is
Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs.
Now, he's got a lot of albumsthat are fantastic that I love
(05:05):
and that I listen to quite often, but Bridge of Sighs is special
.
A little bit of Sympathy, TwoRolling Stones Day of the Eagle.
Bridge of Sighs, it's just agreat record.
I will also put Robin in my topfive and again, just to be safe
, he is in my top ten.
(05:26):
Probably top five, six, seven,Because there's so many to
choose from of greatestguitarists of all time.
Now, for those of you who enjoygreat rock, if you've not heard
Bridge of Sighs that albumthere is not a bad tune on it.
You've got to check it out.
(05:54):
For those of you who have andknow it as well as I do, last
time I saw him I think it was, Ithink it was 2014,.
I could be wrong, but I've seenhim three times and have his
concert t-shirts, everything.
I got to introduce him at Aceof Spades.
Come on now.
(06:15):
One of my legendary rock heroes.
I get to introduce him.
So he is when you watchjaw-dropping.
I remember when I saw him in SanFrancisco the last time and I
caught myself with my mouth openlike God, and you know he's
always the guy that when he'splaying the notes and I remember
(06:41):
this as a kid, like as ateenager, we'd talk about this.
You know, if you talked aboutthe cars, for instance, it was
always something like, hey, yousee the cars in concert, yeah,
they never move, Like RickO'Castle, like they don't move.
And they play everything, likethe hits, like you hear it on
the radio, but they don't move.
Like you hear it on the radio, but they don't move.
Robin Trower, his thing was andis, when he plays a note, his
(07:08):
facial expressions and his mouthalways go with that note.
It reminds me of, like, if Iwere a guitarist I'd probably do
that, you know, not eventhinking about it.
Hendrix used to do that alittle bit, and you know Jimmy.
So, about it, Hendrix used todo that a little bit, and you
know Jimmy, so did Stevie RayVaughan.
But, Matter of fact, I wouldargue that Robin Trower Is the
(07:32):
closest guitar stylings that Iam aware of to Jimi Hendrix.
And I would also argue We'lljust check that out for a second
.
All right, All right, here wego.
Pat's Peeps 338 on a Thursday.
(08:15):
Here you go, baby, Like arolling stone.
(08:36):
I don't own this music, I justCritiquing, you know, Educating
(09:09):
about Robin Trower.
I used to be a pro-coal harem.
Talk about that coming upPlaying at the Rockland Corey
Amphitheater tonight.
Don't miss it.
Hey to each his own that RobinTrower is the equal to Jimmy.
(09:42):
Sorry, you don't believe that?
Okay, if you do, okay, Judgefor yourself.
Go see him at concert.
Tell me.
I mean, Jimmy has thatLegendary status we all know
Died at the age of 27 and Ifreaking love Jimi Hendrix, I do
.
But Robin Trower should havelegendary status.
(10:06):
And does you know, if you goback and listen to the band
Procol Harum and go beyond oneof my all time favorite songs,
which is White or Shade of Paleby Procol Harum, but go back and
listen to Whiskey Train andtell me, and listen to the
cowbell, listen to the trowerguitar in that Before he went
(10:31):
out on his own and he was partof that band, Pocal Harum, Pocal
(10:57):
Harum, Pats Peeps 338.
It's actually one of myfavorite Robin Trower guitar
licks.
Very underrated, Not even thatwell-known.
But I'm going to let it spinand I dig the cowbell.
(11:17):
We need more cowbell.
Maybe I'll have to do some ofmy favorite rock guitar solos on
a podcast, you know, Maybetomorrow.
(11:41):
All right now, check out Robinon guitar and you will get an
(12:13):
idea.
He was showing you.
He was showing you what he wasable to do and what he was going
to do in a solo career.
It's just telling me about myI'm listening my nike running
app.
It's telling me how I'm doingin my performance here today.
Boy, this feels so good.
If you know, talk about thedopamines.
(12:34):
You'll get that released if yougo see robin trower.
But heck, doing this day, likesee now, which is I always found
this like, once you start doingthe exercise that you've been
putting off, you know you dragyour butt out there.
You do the exercise, whateverit is, whether it's this walking
running, whether it's, you know, whether it's sit-ups, push-ups
(12:56):
, weights oh God, I don't wantto get back into this and you do
.
Suddenly you start to becomeaddicted to it.
Here comes a train behind me.
See if you can hear the trainin the distance coming up.
Oh, there it is above us.
I live about, oh, I own theproperty across the street from
(13:22):
my home which goes all the wayto the railroad track.
That train up there today ispretty quiet actually, Generally
, but pretty quiet, I mean, it'ssomewhere a little bit louder
and I absolutely love it.
You know it's never too loudhere where I live and I own that
property, like I say, right upto the track, across the street
(13:42):
from my house, and the trainsounds just right.
When people come up here theygo hey, is that a train?
Oh, wow, I love the sound of atrain.
Yep, so do I.
What I also love is when itcomes to my little town here.
One of the real cool thingsabout living in a community like
(14:02):
this you can hear the traincoming at a certain time of day,
for instance in the earlyevening, and as it passes
through my little community hereand it's a little community up
in the foothills it gives youthat with a train whistle Up in
the foothills, he gives you thatwith the train whistle, you
know, just saying hi to us, likefreaking Petticoat Junction.
(14:29):
Remember our Green Acres, remember Pixley to Hooterville,
they have a train.
I always wanted to ride thattrain, ride in that train,
riding that train, never mind.
So, anyhow, last night, meanwhile, and other things, by
the way, please keep yourfingers crossed, because today
(14:54):
it could be a huge day for Pat'sPeeps and for you, or it could
be one of those days where I go,you know, like horseshoes, so
close, so close.
We were that close.
But if you keep your fingerscrossed and think good things,
then this may happen today andthen I'll have something very
(15:15):
special to share with you.
But either way, if it doesn'thappen, I will always have
something very special to sharewith you.
But either way, if it doesn'thappen, I will always have
something very special to sharewith you on behalf of our Pats,
peeps businesses.
What we're going to do?
We're going to add more food.
You know, some of the things wehave in there now are.
They're really nice, butthey're not maybe an everyday
(15:38):
thing you need.
A lot of people want food andthey want to fight inflation and
get good deals with food.
So right now, rock and Soul, roc and Soul SOL Diner.
Please keep in mind you havefive more days.
We have been doing this theentire month, giving you
(16:01):
two-for-one entrees by literallyjust walking in and telling
anyone that works there hey, Iheard about you through Pat's
Peeps.
No app, no checking couponsdigitally.
It's just you saying hey, heardabout you on pat's peeps.
Please do that five days.
If we could get as many peopleinto rock and soul diner on 10th
street in sacramento to saythat the better, because we can
keep them going and otherrestaurants.
(16:21):
And then, if this thing happenstoday, like I said, oh oh boy,
it will be something that I justcan't wait to tell you about.
So last night, based on arecommendation from a caller
onto my radio show and based ona recommendation from my movie
(16:44):
reviewer, ken Dogg Jackman ofDogsMovieHousecom, I watched a
movie that I cannot believe Ihad never seen before Talk Radio
.
This movie came out in 1988.
I've been in radio since 90,and I'm coming up on 12 years
(17:05):
this next month, which isremarkable to me of doing talk
radio.
Now, when I say talk radio,I've been in talk radio since
1993, but I've been behind thescenes as a producer.
I was the sports guy, but interms of hosting my own talk
(17:26):
show.
I'm coming up on 12 years, which again is remarkable.
I'm very impressed by my runthere.
Patrick no, I'm just teasingyou, but it is.
I mean, it's unique and it'sbecause of you, as I've told you
every single time.
If it weren't for you, Iwouldn't be there.
So I watch this movie To reallysee, to dig in and see how real
(17:51):
it is in terms of conducting ashow, producing a show behind
the scenes.
How genuine is this movie?
How does he run his show?
How does he treat the listeners?
How do the listeners treat him?
What could possibly be the plotof this movie?
(18:14):
Talk Radio.
So I was curious and I watchedit.
Now I will say this it isprobably the first movie that I
have seen.
If you listen to my show, youknow I'm not easy on movies.
I am not easy on movies.
I am not easy on movies.
I don't like a lot of moviesthat I spend my hard-earned
(18:35):
money on, find them to be boringor ridiculous or whatever.
I did enjoy this movie and Istarted taking notes.
I wanted to take notes so Icould remember every little
nuance of the movie that I couldrelate to or perhaps not relate
(18:58):
to, and I have extensive notesthat I'm going to go over
tonight on my radio show.
Well, nope, nope, take thatback Tomorrow night on my radio
show and I'll do that with KenDogg.
That works out perfectly, actually, because I can talk to
(19:19):
Ken Dogg, our movie reviewer, about that.
He wanted to know what myresponse was going to be to that
movie.
I'm going to stop right hereand pause for a second.
You know I don't want to reveala whole lot of it, the plot,
the ending, but I do want totalk about, quite frankly, how
(19:47):
amazed I was that they really.
You know that it really wasvery true to talk radio, sort of
behind the scenes kind of stuffand how it's run.
So I'm going to share mythoughts, my extensive notes
(20:11):
regarding that on Friday night'sshow.
And why is that?
Well, if you ask, why aren'tyou going to be on the air
tonight?
I'm going to train trusserright now.
Let it echo from the ceiling.
Here we go, because I ammeeting with perhaps up to 50
new Pats, peeps, businesses.
(20:33):
Come on now.
Hey-oh, did you hear that echowithin the train trestle?
That's right.
Here comes another car.
I'm going to turn around here.
I'm going to go back throughthat train trestle.
I'm going to head on back to myhome and get ready for this
fantastic meeting.
I've got another little shot oftrain trestle.
And I'm going to head on backto my home and get ready for
this fantastic meeting.
I've got another little shot oftrain trestle.
(20:54):
Oh, I'm going to start doingtrain trestle shout outs.
Okay, I just thought about that.
Here we go, train trestle shoutout.
Number two, pats, with a PatWall Show Business is
representing my show To becelebrated this evening.
It's all about local businessthat come through.
Okay, alright, hang on while Igraffiti the wall real quick.
(21:15):
No, pat Wall Show, Take that.
And you know, train trestleshout out.
(21:39):
So, as I'm winding my way backto the studio here on pat's
peeps, what are we at three?
Is this 337 or is this 338?
Let me see, I honestly forgot.
I think this is 338.
It's 338, pat.
Did I get confused?
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Yes, you know what?
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Yes, you did.
I think it's 338.
It's 338.
Come on now.
Lots of people driving throughthe little neighborhood this
morning.
Yeah, there were.
Everyone waving, isn't thatnice.
Anyway, when I get back I'lldetermine if it's Pat's Peeps.
I am back 337 or 338.
How could I be confused?
(22:18):
I've never been confused.
Hi, horses, these are thebeautiful horses out in the
field.
I'll post another video of thebeautiful horse.
I've been doing that lately asI go on my walk.
No, these are not my horses, bythe way, these are just the
wonderful horses belong, belongto my wonderful neighbors here.
So with that in mind, you know Italked about the nice kind of
(22:43):
cloudy, cooler day Change in mymusical tastes.
I wonder if you do the same, ifyour music tastes change, like
in the summer, let's say.
I'll give you an exampleSummertime I might be listening
to, let's say, sublime or Stonesor the vintage Jay Giles band,
(23:15):
kind of wild, I'll even throw insome Smash Mouth.
When it changes like winterytime suddenly I'm listening to
acoustic Jethro Tull, robinTrower, pink Floyd, I know some
(23:39):
things like that.
Maybe some traffic Little Spark, hot Heel Boys Love that.
One Got a truck behind me.
Lots of vehicles on the road.
Hold on now, hold on.
So with that in mind, we'regoing to go back to you in the
(24:04):
studio, pat Alrighty, andperhaps you can share a little
Robin Trower.
Back to you, buddy.
I love it.
Thank you so much.
Bridge of Sighs album.
Second album by solo album byRobin Trower, released in 74.
After he left Procol Harum.
(24:25):
Second album, a commercialbreakthrough.
Bridge of Sighs.
Two Rolling Stones that's whatthis is right.
Two Rolling Stones, day of theEagle, a little bit of sympathy
Became live concert staples.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
I was ditching time
Just about seeing me.
I'm going through the same oldand this cat he still suffers
the same old.
Just keeps bringing me somereal bad news.
(25:04):
Take us, get the honey give us,can I not?
Speaker 1 (25:25):
I don't want to get
in trouble just for playing some
of this cool music.
James DeWaar on the lead vocalsvery underrated Bassist as well
Reg Isidore on the drums andRobin on the guitar I'm going to
(25:47):
stretch this so you get to hearhis guitar.
It is so awesome on this song.
This was the second Trowerrecord to feature cover art by
(26:26):
Funky Paul Olsen.
First time was 1973.
The album twice removed fromyesterday.
By the way, early printings ofthis original album had the
front image upside down A littlebit more greenish in color.
All right, went to number sevenin the US.
All right, you gotta check outthis Robin Trower guitar, one of
(26:49):
the greatest in my opinion.
There you go.
Just a little taste so bluesyand hard rock, though, oh, the
vocals are out of this world, man, I love it.
Produced by Matthew Fisher, formerly Robin's bandmate and
(27:27):
vocal harem, and by acclaimedBeatles engineer, jeff Emmerich,
the album Sound Engineer.
Alright, this is a little Robin.
I want to wish you a very happyThursday.
(28:04):
Hey, keep your fingers crossed.
Pull out your lucky four-leafclover.
Wish me luck today.
Let those clouds draw in, man.
See you on the radio, thank you.
