SPEAKER_04 (00:14):
All right, out here
walking on a beautiful Friday
morning.
So nice to see the sun shiningagain.
It was great to start gettingsome rain.
Clouds and stuff.
I did love that.
(00:34):
But now the sun is shining andI'm loving it again.
How about you?
Happy Friday.
Fatspeeps Podcast 366.
It also feels outstanding to beout here walking again.
I haven't done one of thesepodcasts on during my walk for a
(00:57):
while.
I love it.
People out here working againalready as soon as that sun
comes out.
People up here in theneighborhood out doing stuff,
getting stuff done.
Just like I am.
I it is a Friday.
What is this?
December?
I mean December.
(01:17):
November.
21st, I believe.
So we have less than a weekbefore Thanksgiving.
Oh.
That's a Tesla truck.
That's one of those Teslatrucks.
I'm sorry, but that's one of theugliest vehicles I've ever seen.
(01:40):
And I mean, it's just like itwasn't like they just it's just
ugly.
I mean that thing.
I used to think like the AMCMatador was the ugliest.
Certainly that's one of the Idon't know about what you think.
I know people always say thegremlin or the AMC Pacer.
(02:03):
AMC had a way with justhideously ugly cars.
Even the javelin that somepeople covet these days.
Looks like a Camaro or a Mustangthat something went awry.
Anyhow, that just went by me.
The Pontiac Aztec 2.
Man, that is one ugly vehicle.
(02:28):
Yeah, less than a week fromThanksgiving.
Uh by the way, my name is PatWalsh, host of the Pat Walsh

for your two-for-one dinner.
You walk into Rock and Soulagain.
I'm gonna underline dinnerbecause that's what we're trying
to emphasize.
We want to build that dinnercrowd.
(03:09):
And let me know what day worksfor you guys.
What kind of a well, maybe nextmaybe we'll set something up for
next week, and I'll put it on mypodcast or I'll mention it on my
radio show that we're gonnagather at Rock and Soul Diner
and have some dinner.
I think I'd like to do that.
So I'll let you know when we'regonna do that.
But yeah, two for one dinnersany day of the week.
(03:31):
Rock and soul roc and so l soul.
Yesterday you heard my brotherTim from AI Lending.
Please check out that, pleasecheck that out when you get a
chance.

my brothers, AI Lending.
Just check them out online.
(03:52):
My brother's name is Timothy, bythe way.
Timothy Michael.
You know, on Thanksgiving, Ilove Thanksgiving.
And this year I cannot wait.
I'm so excited because this yearI actually get to help make a
Thanksgiving dinner.
I'm super excited about that.
(04:14):
That's something I've beenwanting to do all year, believe
it or not, it is.
Oh, trade dress a shout out!Happy almost Thanksgiving!
Dodgers back to back champions! How about that?
Had to fit that in.
Oh, and yep, and my Rams aredoing good.
Sorry, I'm just gonna keeptalking about that because I
love it.
Let's figure the football, soThanksgiving.
(04:35):
That's where I was gonna go withthis anyhow.
I don't know.
I love Thanksgiving because Imaybe I mentioned this before,
but it sticks with me, you know.
I love Thanksgiving because it'sa time to be with friends,
family, whatever.
But then they have threefootball games on Thanksgiving.
Is it really about football allday of Thanksgiving?
(04:57):
Is that what it's become?
I love the NFL, but wow.
Talk about monopolizing today.
I don't mind it, I guess, beingon in the background.
I don't mind that.
I kind of I used to like itbetter.
It was always a Detroit Lions, like the Lions would never win
anything, but they've got toalways be featured on
(05:19):
Thanksgiving.
You could always count on that.
And then at some point, theCowboys.
Now, maybe they started being onThanksgiving at the same time.
That's not the way myrecollection is.
I thought the Lions were on up,looked that up for years before
the Cowboys started playing, youknow, because there's America's
(05:40):
team.
Cowboys are America's team.
How dare you! Just because yours your cheerleaders are on the
love boat doesn't make youAmerica's team.
But somehow they got thatnickname.
It's part of the reason so manypeople hate the Cowboys, and so
many people love the Cowboys.
Polarizing team.
But I don't know, three games?
(06:03):
It used to be fun when you justI mean, I'm old school, man.
Like they used to have marchingbands, which uh bored the hell
out of me to be honest.
I used to love that, no matterwhat song that without now,
please we direct your attentionto the center of the field.
Bill, Bill, where the uhmarching band, Louisiana State
(06:24):
Marching Band, band, band, man, pays tribute to Fleetwood Mac.
You know, if you do in dreams, but it always sounds the same.
You're like, okay, isn't thatdreams?
All right, Pat Benajar by thethe Florida Nanny College
marching band.
(06:50):
Pity I can't say my pressure formarching band as I almost get
hit by a car.
I don't know, three three's alot.
You know, one of the things youtalked about, speaking of sport
type of things, I uh show lastnight was that Carmel wants to
(07:10):
ban pickleball because it's justtoo noisy.
As I pointed out, people whogrunt in tennis are pretty noisy
too, but I did a little researchon that.
And what I found out is thatyeah, that could be very, very
(07:30):
annoying.
Cuz it's just they got this likeit's almost like a ping pong
paddle, so it's clack, clack, clack, clack.
Now, that could be annoying whenit's happening from the time you
wake up to the time you go tobed.
You hear that all day and intothe night.
(07:53):
I get it.
It's not that quiet, but they'regonna ban it within the city of
Carmel.
Who knows where that'll lead toafter that?
But my thought is why ban thesport?
Why not you're gonna tell methere's gotta be an area, you
(08:14):
know, somewhere in Carmel whereit's out in the middle of
nothing.
And I mean, I know thatproperty's worth a lot, so
you're probably gonna say, well, yeah, well, that property is
worth so much.
Are you gonna put a pickleballcourt out there on that super
expensive property?
Who knows?
Maybe you are.
(08:35):
Because a lot of people want toplay pickleball, but maybe you
put it out in a place whereneighbors can't hear it.
Or here's the other thing, too.
Like, I understand it.
Let's say you live in acommunity, wherever that
community might be, you live inthis community, and then all of
(08:59):
a sudden they put in pickleballcourts because it's the new
craze.
And they think people want that.
So now you've lived here, it'sbeen peaceful and quiet, but now
you have pickleballers outthere.
Is that what you call them?
And you that which initially fortwo seconds, three seconds ain't
(09:20):
that bad.
All day long?
Okay, I get it.
So I think it's very unfair tothose people who I don't feel
that bad for are the people whomight be protesting this, these
pickleball courts, who, as partof the enticement, part of the
(09:45):
allure to moving into thatcommunity is when they get the
tour initially, if the tourperson says, Hey, one of the
great amenities here is we havea swimming pool, you know, we
have a gym, we have the thesefacilities, and one of the
(10:06):
things we have are pickleballcourts.
And you say, Well, hey, that isa good reason for me to sign up
here, to to get a home here.
Because I like that.
I like the fact that they havepickleball courts at that point.
Then you move in to realize, well, hey, these pickleball
(10:29):
courts are annoying.
Well, too bad.
For you.
Because you chose that as anoption, you chose that as one of
the reasons that you moved intothe community.
For the other people, I mustsay, yeah, I get it.
I certainly enjoy the peace andquiet up here.
I'm done with my walk now.
(10:50):
Um, I enjoy the peace and quiet, the serenity where I live up in
my mystery hut up in thefoothills.
And I think that if I had tohear that sound of those
pickleball paddles all day, thatwould be extremely annoying.
So I do get that.
(11:12):
But to ban it altogether and notfind a facility to where they
can play without annoyingneighbors is uh I don't know.
But who cares, right?
Like honestly, three days ago, Idon't think we cared about
pickleball in Carmel.
I would tell you that I wouldn'teven imagine I could make it on
my show.
(11:33):
So I think I'm gonna do isbecause I don't think anybody
would ever think that's aproblem, unless you're living in
one of these communities.
So I think what I may do in thenext couple of days is go visit
a pickleball court.
I might do that today.
If I do, I'll include it on thispodcast, and I'll just hit audio
(11:57):
and let you hear how that soundswith no narration, and then I
may go interview some of thepeople who are playing
pickleball.
So I'm gonna make a plan onthat.
I think I found a place wherethey play pickleball outdoors,
and there's neighbors aroundaround this gym.
So I'm gonna uh I'll I'll I'lldo that, okay?
(12:22):
Ah, alright.
Well, wherever you are, whateveryou're up to, I hope that one of
the things I'm hoping for foryou is that you're here, I'll
say this in late November.
It might sound odd, but youcan't forget about it just
because it's late November.
I hope that whatever your NewYear's resolutions were 11
(12:44):
months ago, that you've beensuccessful in um in your New
Year's resolutions.
And I can honestly say, eventhough I'm not out here running
or doing these fast walks orworking out like I should be uh
every day, I've done it enoughto where I feel very good.
(13:05):
My blood pressure, like I'vementioned before, is perfect, or
at least it was the last time Iwent in.
Um, when I went to Sicily andItaly and England.
I mean, I really excelled atgoing up some of these
cobblestone streets, which I cantell you, some of them are very,
especially in some of thesemedieval towns, are very steep.
(13:26):
And people were winded.
Some of the people, uh, itwasn't that easy, but I seemed
to have almost, it was almostlike I was cross-country skiing
up some of them, taking bigsteps and not as winded as I
would have been had I not beenworking out a little bit and
getting some cardio.
So I feel very good about that.
(13:48):
I'm so glad it's the weekend.
We're supposed to have sunshine,I think, right on through
Thanksgiving.
So, one of the things I'm reallylooking forward to, I've said
this before, I love doing this, especially when I have a few
days off, is having a burn pileout there on a burn day,
(14:08):
listening to music, and uh justenjoying that.
You know, two birds, one stone.
I can sit there and relax, or Ican relax, even though there's
some work to it.
You're burning all that, youknow, all the wood and all the
pine needles and everythingyou're needing to rake up to
make that happen.
(14:28):
But I don't know, there's justsomething about it therapeutic,
I'm almost almost saying andthen listening to old classic
radio shows.
And who knows, perhaps having, Idon't know, maybe a shot or two
of the Irish, and even a cigarwhile I'm listening to music and
(14:49):
doing that.
So we shall continue on speakingof music.
Ah, so nice, such a beautifulday.
Thought I would continue thepodcast out here driving.
This is one of my favoritethings in the world to do.
Put the top down, the car, theGT, showing some music, go for a
(15:18):
ride like this.
What a gorgeous fall day it is.
I love driving the back roads.
Honestly, one of my veryfavorite activities in the
world.
Everything is so green.
(15:38):
Love all the moss on the trees.
A lot of the trees, of course, start to turn orange, red,
yellow.
I just love being you know onthe side roads.
(16:03):
Off the beaten path.
I'll always, if I have a choicebetween the freeway and the back
roads, I'll always go with theback roads.
Hardly any cars out here are sopeaceful.
Puts me in a good mood.
(16:27):
Wherever you are today, friends, hope you're in a good mood.
Patch peeps 366.
Happy Friday.
SPEAKER_02 (16:49):
I'm hungry, baby.
I want some food.
I need your turkey.
Yeah, it's so good.
Some mashed potatoes, some macand cheese.
You got me begging.
I need turkey, please.
I'm excited for ThanksgivingDay, cause I could eat turkey
all day.
And I'm finished with cookiesand cake.
(17:12):
Some chocolate.
Grandma's bringing her famousstuffing.
And we're gonna make broccoliand cheese.
Maybe even some warm apple bake.
Turkey! Yes, please.
And I'll find out the broken.
I'm right here.
SPEAKER_04 (17:36):
A lot of people have
different ways of making their
turkey for Thanksgiving.
I know a lot of people like todeep fry the turkey.
Sounds very dangerous to me, butI it sounds like it would turn
out really good.
Deep frying, as they say, yieldsthis turkey that is incredibly
moist on the inside with you getthe dark, crispy skin.
(17:58):
That sounds good.
Like dark crispy skin.
Yummy.
Uh the unique cooking methods.
Well, you've got your smoking, your grilling, your spaghetti
cooking.
Isn't that is that hold on?
Is that not what I thought is itas bad?
Okay.
(18:42):
They want you to be verycareful, obviously.
Three to four minutes per pound.
They say on a flat levelsurface, like a driveway.
You know, just at least ten feetaway from any buildings.
(19:07):
Any wooden decks, any flammablematerials.
Keep it away.
Ensure the turkey is completelythawed and dry.
That prevents the dangerous oilsplatter and the flare-ups.
Again, this sounds verydangerous to me.
Never ever leave the fryerunattended while in use, of
(19:31):
course.
Keep children and pets away.
Man, this is some dangerousstuff, isn't it?
Use a high smoke point oil likepeanut canola or vegetable oil.
Turn off the burner beforeslowly lowering the turkey into
the hot oil and before removingit.
(19:52):
Again, I know a lot of people dothis.
I don't know if I'm gonna bedoing this, but I'll watch you
do it from a distance.
Have a grease-rated fireextinguisher nearby.
And they say, whatever you do,never use water on an oil fire,
(20:12):
of course.
SPEAKER_02 (20:17):
I need a little
butter in my life.
Yes, please.
I can't wait until this candy.
SPEAKER_01 (20:30):
Those bits and
pieces, I mix them up.
Pour on some baby and I scoop itup.
My roll is soggy, but I don'tcare.
Don't sit by me, cause I won'tshare.
SPEAKER_04 (20:45):
There's other ways
to cook a turkey.
Spatchcock, honey.
Yes, dear.
You gotta be spatchcocking aturkey.
Is that what you call it?
That's good, dear.
What are you doing?
What are you doing, babe?
Just spatcocking the turkey.
(21:07):
This method involves removingthe backbone.
Flattening the bird.
Holy god.
That's a rough day for thatbird.
Allowing for faster, more sure,it's good for you and me.
Allows for faster, more evencooking, crispy skin throughout.
Well, of course it does.
(21:27):
You removed its backbone andflattened the pork critter.
Anyhow, it can be done in anoven or a grill, smoking the
turkey with a mild wood applewood.
Now that sounds good.
Or pecan wood.
Infuses that deep flavor intothe meat and gives the skin the
beautiful deep mahogany color.
I would like to try that.
(21:49):
That'd be one of my favoriteways of doing the turkey.
Grilling freeze-up oven spacecan add a pleasant smokiness,
they say, using direct heat anda drip pan to catch the juices
for the gravy.
That's another good way.
I'd love to, you know, I'd loveto grill that on my Weber.
I like I like I like the Weber.
(22:12):
Again, I'm old school.
Rotisserie.
I don't have a rotisserie.
The rotisserie roaster.
Like they used to have at Sam'soff-brow in the windows before
we became too good for that.
I loved that, man.
That would draw you in.
Spit roasting, they'd call it.
The slow cooking process.
You just see it dripping intothat pan.
(22:33):
Put it on that rotisserie.
I ain't got room for arotisserie in my place.
But ensures that evenly cookedgolden brown crispy crust.
SPEAKER_02 (22:43):
I'm excited for
Thanksgiving Day, cause I could
eat turkey all day.
And I'll finish with cookies andcake.
Some chocolate.
Grandma's bringing her famousstuffing.
And we're gonna make broccoliand cheese.
Maybe even some warm apple bake.
Turkey! Yes, please! And I'llfucking broken me.
(23:06):
I'm right here.
SPEAKER_04 (23:10):
Bear Valley
Community Church.
That's right.
Here's a couple of more.
You braise the turkey.
Brazing requires cutting theturkey into pieces, but it
guarantees, they say, incrediblymoist and tender meat by cooking
it in a flavorful liquid.
And finally, this one I'm notinterested in trying personally,
(23:33):
but I've heard people say theylike it.
Eh, just not my thing.
I'm not one I know it soundsweird.
I'm not a food mixer, first ofall.
Like I was the kid at the tablethat I didn't want my stuffing
with my well, I didn't want evenas a kid, I didn't like
stuffing.
Now it's my favorite food.
But I like I didn't want mygravy or that kind of food, the
(23:55):
savory, that kind of stuff, touching my fruit salad or my
cranberry sauce.
I didn't like the sweet mix, youknow, the whipped cream of the
fruit salad mixed with the gravyfrom my mashed potatoes.
I didn't like that.
So I'm not a big mixer likethat.
And the turduckin, what it doesis it mixes the meat.
I'm sure it's good, but so theysay for the dramatic
(24:19):
centerpiece, they'll try aturduck and bone chicken stuffed
into a D-bone duck stuffed intoa D-bone turkey, buddy.
Turduckin.
So either way you do it, hey.
Good for you.
Happy almost Thanksgiving.
Happy Friday, really.
(24:40):
We're still a few days away.
So I pulled this record off myrare record shelf today, and I'm
looking at it.
You know, I have records I'malways telling you that I got
from a um that I collected fromother places, including a radio
station I used to work at.
So I got a lot of these records.
Some of those, some of thesethough, are my records from when
I was a teenager growing up, youknow, I junior high and stuff.
(25:05):
And the one today, I'm prettysure this is from my my
collection as a kid.
It's not in the very best ofshape.
It's in okay shape.
It's on D-Light Records.
I loved this era of this band.
And it's got a flip side, so Ithought I'd play that first
before I get to the hit side.
(25:25):
So there's no stickers on it.
This is not a um it's not apromo.
So I did buy this at one point.
I don't know, maybe I was 14,15, maybe?
That's how long I've had this.
D-Light Records.
Okay, this song right here.
I remember it followed.
(25:48):
It was either just before, but Ithink it followed one of my
all-time favorite AM hit songs.
Which is also by this band.
But I could have that flip-flop.
But it's a 1974 song by thisAmerican RB in soul and funk
band.
I liked them because they werefunky during this.
(26:10):
From their fourth studio album,Wild and Peaceful, from 1973,
written by Robert Bell, who hasa nickname.
I'll tell you in a moment.
Ronald Bell, George M.
Brown, you probably alreadyknow.
Uh Robert Spike Mickens, CladusCharles Smith, Dennis R.
Thomas, and Rick A.
(26:30):
Westfield.
The song was the group's firstnumber one RB single went to uh
it went to that position in Juneof 74.
So, you know, just because itwas the first number one, I
don't know if the other song Iwas thinking of was number one
or not, or if it came afterthis.
(26:52):
Anyhow, the single was asuccessful crossover hit, went
to number six on the BillboardHot 100 singles chart as well.
Record World said these guyshave have to be funk
personified.
Make way for their next millionseller talking about this song.
(27:15):
I'm gonna play the flip side ofit though.
The flip side, the B side, thesong that no one ever hears from
this record.
And I have not heard it since Iwas a kid, because I just
haven't listened to this record,I don't think, since I was a kid
on the 45, anyhow.
(27:36):
And I remember as a kid, Icouldn't remember, I mean, I
couldn't figure out how toexactly say this song.
So we'll listen together.
It's first time in a long time.
It's by Cool and the Gang.
The B side is called doughy.
D U J I I'm gonna be a littlebit.
(28:19):
It's brought to you by Nobisco.
Also by Craft and by Norwelco.
Tonight's special guest.
Well, it's that era.
This week.
(28:41):
That's kind of more of a comedyshow feel.
Is it an instrumental?
(29:02):
This week.
All the rookie.
Hey yeah.
Alright, there you go.
Flipping it over.
This was the big hit sign, andit still is so funky.
Hollywood swinging cool in thegang.
(29:23):
That's peeps 366.
My favorite though is JungleBoogie.
By cool in the gang.
Here you go.
It's appropriate by the way, saythe runafo.
SPEAKER_00 (29:42):
What you got to say?
SPEAKER_04 (29:43):
Dodgers and Rams.
Sorry, I true.
I think it's even in that JoeyOtani commercial.
Swing I was sweet I remember nottoo long ago I went to a saw
(30:25):
these guys open for Van Halencan you imagine I always wanted
to get into a band to sing mysongs and become a bad piano
playing now So here I am in thisHollywood song Let me pick up
(30:53):
the needle put it over here alittle bit I I always liked the
ending the way cool and the gangwould end their songs with a lot
of grunts and things here you gosee if I can Yeah I always liked
this I did the same thing inJungle Boogie By the way going
(31:21):
back to that nickname earlierRobert Cool Bell I thought Cool
would have given it away.
Thank you for listening.
Ow yeah pass beeps three hundredand sixty-six happy Friday, have
a great weekend.
We'll see you on the radiotonight.
