Weekend Service for April 20Scripture Readings: John 20:1–18 | Luke 22:54–62 | John 13:21–30Life often feels like a blur of busyness, with days that are long and years that are short. In the midst of this, many of us simply go through the motions, responding to “How are you?” with a rehearsed answer, rarely pausing to consider the deeper issues beneath the surface. Our world is desperate for peace, fulfillment, and wholeness—needs that have become even more apparent as mental health takes center stage in our culture. Yet, the answer to these needs is not found in more activity or self-improvement, but in the person of Jesus Christ.Looking at the lives of Judas and Peter, two men who walked closely with Jesus, we see a profound lesson about the human condition and the offer of grace. Both men failed Jesus in dramatic ways: Judas betrayed Him for money, and Peter denied even knowing Him out of fear. Despite witnessing miracles and experiencing Jesus’ love firsthand, both men stumbled. The difference between them was not in the gravity of their sin, but in their response to Jesus’ forgiveness.Judas, overwhelmed by guilt and shame, could not accept the forgiveness that Jesus offered—even as Jesus, hanging on the cross, prayed for the forgiveness of those who crucified Him. Unable to bear the weight of his own sin, Judas took his own life. Peter, on the other hand, after denying Jesus three times, encountered the risen Christ. Jesus gently restored Peter, asking him three times, “Do you love me?” and commissioning him to care for His people. Peter accepted the grace, mercy, and forgiveness that Jesus offered, and was transformed into a foundational leader of the early church. This contrast highlights the heart of the gospel: salvation is not about following a list of rules or earning God’s favor through our own efforts. The work is already done—finished on the cross by Jesus. What remains is for us to place our faith in Him, to accept His forgiveness, and to allow His Spirit to change us from the inside out. No sin is too great for His grace. The invitation is open to all, every day: to step toward Jesus, receive His love, and find true peace and wholeness in Him.[00:00] Welcome[01:51] Surface Problems vs. Deeper Issues[02:52] The Pace of Life and Our Need for Wholeness[06:09] Judas and Peter: Close to Jesus, Yet Struggling[08:30] The Last Supper: “Is It Me?”[09:24] Judas’ Betrayal and Its Aftermath[10:38] Peter’s Denial Foretold[11:15] Peter’s Denial Fulfilled[11:57] All the Disciples Abandon Jesus[12:53] The Unmatched Grace of Jesus[13:40] Judas’ Guilt and Despair[14:21] The Weight of Sin and the Need for Forgiveness[15:14] Jesus Restores Peter[16:48] The Power of Accepted Grace[17:37] Law, Rules, and the Human Tendency to Strive[18:14] The Finished Work of Christ[18:53] Judging Others vs. Jesus’ Offer[20:31] Both Judas and Peter Had a Choice[21:19] Peter’s Restoration and Our Invitation[22:16] Daily Steps Toward Jesus[23:09] Closing Prayer
