Speaker 1 (00:05):
All right, y'all,
welcome to another episode of
the Peace and Prosperity Podcast.
I'm your host, jason Phillips, licensed therapist, confidence
expert, and today we're talkingabout how to find and operate in
your purpose, because it's notenough just to find your purpose
, but you want to be able tooperate in your purpose too.
(00:25):
So this is going to be theconversation for you if you feel
stuck in your career or stuckin your personal life too.
So what gets in the way of youfinding your purpose?
What are the roadblocks, whatare the mindset barriers?
How come?
This seems to be a challengingissue for a lot of us,
(00:47):
particularly those of us whoreally want to do things right,
like there's.
We are the people who ourparents told us hey, get a job,
retire, raise your family, callit a day.
And I know for myself, operating in my purpose one has
been the best thing that I cando, like being able to talk to
you, being able to serve clients, being able to speak on stages,
(01:10):
being able to have a voice inthe community is something that
I would not trade for anything.
Like my wife knows that she'slike you love to work and I do,
but that's because I love toserve and I'm operating in my
purpose, so I could do this allday long.
I truly could.
But how do you get there?
(01:30):
The first thing you have to dois let go of the expectations
that other people have for you.
You may be someone who is goodat a lot of things.
You're good with your hands, you're good with people, you're
good with systems.
All of these things are greatand you could excel at each and
(01:54):
every level but where is yourtrue passion at?
Let me run this back againYou're good here.
You can, you can do this, youcan do that, but what brings you
joy?
So you have to let go of theexpectations that other people
have for you, and now you haveto think about what are the
expectations that you have andthat you want for your life.
It's almost like when you'reyoung, your life story is
written out for you from yourparents or people who raised you
(02:19):
, and then your job seems to bethat you go and play out that
life story to the T.
You may tweak it here and thereand enhance it along the way,
but essentially, what you'retrying to do is live out what
everyone has told you.
You should do so if there is afamily tradition of going to
school, working in education andthen raising a family.
(02:43):
That's essentially what you mayfind yourself doing going to
school, getting a degree Maybeit's not even the degree that
you wanted, but it's the degreethat everybody said you will be
good at and what happens is youleave that experience feeling
unfulfilled, like you want more, but you're good at what you do.
So that's where it becomesreally challenging to let go of
(03:05):
these expectations, because youare performing well to someone
else's standards, but what aboutthe standards and expectations
that you have for your life?
So if you find yourself stuck, not operating in your purpose,
the first thing I want you to dois let go of other people and
their expectations for you.
(03:25):
The second thing I want you todo is I want you to choose
happiness.
Now, that may seem existential,it may not seem tangible, but
you have to get super clear onwhat happiness means and what it
looks like for you.
So if that means staying in thecareer that you're at, if that
means staying in the city thatyou live in or continuing to do
(03:49):
the things that you do on adaily basis, then great.
But if it means that you needto pivot and do something else,
then I want you to give yourselfpermission to do so.
You're not a kid anymore.
You don't have to do everythingthat your parents have told you
to do.
If you are a kid listening tothis podcast, at some point you
will be able to make your owndecisions.
(04:11):
So you might as well startthinking like yourself now.
Choose happiness and operatefrom a sense of your own
self-worth and what you want foryou, not what everybody else
wants, and that could be.
It could be challenging, because maybe you don't want to
let somebody down.
You think, if I do choosemyself, then what does that look
(04:31):
like?
You may be really afraid ofsuccess.
If you do, pivot, because rightnow, if you have not let go of
expectations, you've not trulychosen happiness for yourself.
You probably are stuck, but youare probably also comfortable.
See, we don't move until we getuncomfortable.
(04:51):
When you decide to make anextreme decision for your life,
it's typically not becausethings are going a little bit
wrong.
It's because things are goingway off and you're at the point
where you have to do somethingdifferently, like you can no
longer function at this rateanymore.
So let's back it up, let's slowthings down and let's look at
(05:12):
what choosing you and choosinghappiness for you and your life
truly looks like.
Hey, peace and prosperity,family.
I want to take a moment to talkabout something vital for all
organizations employee wellness.
I focus on tackling issues suchas low morale, burnout and
(05:34):
helping teams thrive byimproving their employee
wellness.
Here's what some of the pastorganizations have shared about
their experiences.
Speaker 2 (05:44):

I mean he discussed just howleadership impacts team health
and team mental health.

Now back to the episode.
(06:36):
The third thing I want you todo is stop comparing yourself to
what someone else is doing.
It's going to be hard for youto choose happiness for you.
If only if, like your measuringstick is someone else's life.
You don't even know if thatperson is truly happy, but
you're measuring yourself up towhat they are doing.
That's not.
(06:57):
That's not healthy.
It is not healthy for a numberof reasons, because that person
could be living a facade andthen, ultimately, you truly
don't get a chance to blossomand do what you want.
See, people will put a lot ofthings on you and they'll tell
you you know, go this way, do itthis route.
But if, innately, you knowthere's something more that you
desire, then you have to.
(07:19):
You have to do it.
I don't think you're going tobe truly fulfilled.
I'm not even going to say happybecause I mean happy could be,
it can come and go, but I meanfulfilled.
It's like you're walking inyour purpose because you know
when you get up in the morning, hey, it may be tough, it may be
rough, but I'm doing exactlywhat I'm called to do.
And this is where thespirituality piece comes into it
(07:40):
, because now you get a chanceto combine, like your thoughts,
your internal feelings, but alsoyou can mix your spirituality
or your religion, your faith, into your calling.
And once you start operatingfrom that lens, all the fear
that you have, all the worryabout failing it starts to
(08:02):
disseminate or decrease.
I want to make sure I don'twant to say disseminate it
starts to go away.
That worry starts to go away.
And now you still show up,despite of Like, if you're doing
something and you're scared, you still show up.
You have a fear that it mayflop, you still do it anyway.
That's not only when yourconfidence starts clicking, but
it's also when you really startto move into your sense of
(08:26):
purpose.
For me, being a therapist, beinga speaker, being a professor,
these are all things that Iwanted for myself.
But in order to move into thesespaces, I had to let go of
expectations that people havefor me.
Some people wanted me to juststay in a clinic the rest of my
career.
Some people may have wanted meto just stay in a classroom for
(08:47):
the rest of my career.
Some people may wanted, wantedme to just stay in a classroom
for the rest of my career.
Some people may want me to onlyspeak.
But I had to think about whatdoes Jason want for himself or
for myself?
And then, once I started to dothat, all the pressure started
to alleviate.
I started to feel more relaxed.
I could show up, even on thedays that I didn't feel like it.
I knew I was operating in mypurpose.
(09:08):
So think about what is it thatyou want to do?
What is it that you're beingcalled to do?
What are some of the roadblocksthat are stopping you from
showing up as your full self?
How can you eliminate thosethings or those people from your
life so that you can live andbe within your purpose?
So that you can live and bewithin your purpose?
(09:29):
Y'all this is that what somepeople call heart work, because
it's deeper than just somethingthat you can do on the surface.
It takes time, it takes energyand it takes a lot of grit and
confidence to say I'm going topush back on what you're saying
and I'm going to follow my ownheart, follow my own mind,
follow my own passion, and I'mgoing to do it.
Own heart, follow my own mind, follow my own passion and I'm
going to do it, despite theanxiety.
(09:51):
Like, the anxiety may still bethere, but I know at the end of
the day, when I wake up and doeverything throughout the day,
when I lay my head down, I'vedone exactly what I am supposed
to be doing.
And when you operate from thatsense of confidence and that
sense of purpose, it's likethings just start clicking.
Opportunities start coming toyou, relationships start
(10:11):
blossoming, your health startsto improve.
But we don't always do itunless we feel compelled or
typically when something goesterribly wrong and now we feel
like I have to make a change.
But I want to leave you withthis Don't wait until things get
that bad Like.
Start making changes now andset yourself up for your future,
(10:33):
you know later.
Don't wait until it's that bad.
You have the aptitude, you havethe tools to start living and
operating in your purpose to thefullest day.
All right, y'all Listen.
I want to hear from you.
Let me know how it's going, what decisions you're making,
what changes are you going toimplement so that you can start
to really show up as the trueand authentic version of
(10:54):
yourself?
All right, be blessed Peace.

functioning anxiety, don't beatyourself up about it.

to reach out to a professionalto better manage what you're
going through.
