Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, y'all, welcome back to another episode
of the Peace and ProsperityPodcast.
I'm your host, jason Phillips, licensed therapist, confidence
expert, and we are getting intothe conversation today around
how to stay disciplined evenwhen you don't want to.
I know sometimes it's hard, though, like you, you want to

(00:26):
stay focused, you want to stayon track, but then you have
little different distractionsand sometimes these are legit
distractions.
I get it.
Things happen, things come upand it throws you off, but then
other times you may feel likethis is a pattern, like
everything that I'm saying Iwant to do, I'll start it, but I

(00:47):
won't finish it.
Or sometimes you don't evenstart it because you don't feel
like you can finish it.
That's a whole, nother problem, but today we're going to unpack
how do you truly staydisciplined and what that looks
like.
Yeah, I got my notes today, sowe're going to get really get
into it.
So the first thing that youhave to do when it comes to

(01:08):
staying disciplined Well, let meback up the very first thing
that you have to do isacknowledge.
I'm not going to say accept,I'm just going to say
acknowledge, acknowledge thatwhat you are doing is not
working and this is throwingyour discipline all the way off
is not working, and this isthrowing your discipline all the
way off.
So you're saying you want to bedisciplined, but your actions

(01:29):
and your behavior are not liningup so that you can truly look
like and play out disciplinedbehaviors.
I don't know, I guess it isdisciplined behaviors, but you
got to say it's not working.
Whatever you're doing, it's notso what do you do?
But you got to say it's notworking Whatever you're doing,
it's not so what do you do?
The first thing I want you todo you have to envision yourself

(01:51):
being disciplined.
I know I talk about mindset, butit also I talk about vision too
.
You want to be able to seeyourself as being the the
focused locked in person thatyou want to be.
Nobody can do that for you butyou.
This is where the belief comesinto the action.
See, when you combine what youbelieve about yourself to how
you're showing up, so meaningwhat you want for yourself, you

(02:15):
speak it and then you see it.
That's when you're going to getdisciplined.
And it's not going to happenlike overnight, where you just
wake up and say, man, I'm goingto be disciplined today, but
it's going to be through a smallseries of incremental behaviors
, so like you'll be disciplinedin one area or you'll do one

(02:35):
thing differently and then thenext thing you know you're going
to be like man.
I'm actually visualizing myselfdoing the things that I said I
want to do and it's happening inreal time Y'all.
When this starts to happen,it's a game changer.
When you think about going tothe gym, I love using the gym as

(02:55):
examples because it's somethingthat I can personally relate to
.
When I say I want to lift acertain amount of weight or I
want to run a certain amount ofmiles or for a certain amount of
time, before I do it I have tosee myself in that mode, meaning
I have to envision myselfcompleting running 20 minutes,
30 minutes I don't typically runfarther than that, so I'm not

(03:18):
even going to say and lie like, yeah, I do 45 minutes or an hour
, but whatever goal that I set,I see myself accomplishing that
thing.
Now, sometimes that's toughbecause we get distracted or we
can kind of talk ourselves outof it.
So this is where you may seepeople putting the towel over
the treadmill or the ellipticalmachine.
So they're not looking at thetime, they're not focused on it.

(03:40):
Hey, if it works, it works.
I'm not knocking it, but what Iam saying is you want to see
yourself already, that healedversion of you, that disciplined
, locked in person If you wantmore prosperity and peace in
your life.
I want you to see it before youcan actually feel it, but you
got to believe it.

(04:01):
That's the first thing.
Hey, peace and Prosperity,family.
I want to take a moment to talkabout something vital for all
organizations employee wellness.
Here's what some of the pastorganizations have shared about
their experiences.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
So far, I've learned that my mental health has a huge
impact as a leader on my team'shealth, but also to be looking
out for signs that I've alreadybeen seeing and learning tips on
how I can take those back tohelp myself as well as my team.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
So I really appreciate Jason because he
really put a lot of stuff inperspective for me.
I don't get a lot of days offyou know what I'm saying so when
I do take one off, I feelreally, really guilty.
It's like, oh my gosh, I got somuch to do, but knowing that
like, hey, it's okay, take abreak, be yourself and then come
back to this and you'll bebetter.
It's just, it's nice to keephearing that.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
So that's good, but it was good to reevaluate and
see that you know everyone hasburnout, things like that and
also just learning how to dealwith it more effectively.
Be yourself, love yourself, andother people are going to love
you too.
Like regardless.
And workplace is not justworkplace, this is family.
He was a great speaker, yeah, probably one of the best ones

(05:11):
that I've seen so far.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
If you're interested in investing in your team's
mental health, visitjasonlphillipscom or visit the
link below, and let's talk aboutcreating a thriving work
environment for yourorganization.
Now back to the episode.
The second thing I want you todo so that you can stay

(05:33):
disciplined, even when it's hard, is set the smaller goals.
This is where those incrementalsteps come in.
If you're finding yourselfgetting off track, that's
probably because you have thelofty goals.
I'm not saying they're easy, but you have the big, lofty
goals.
And now you're like but how doI do it?

(05:53):
I know what I want, I can seeit, but how do I get there?
You've probably let yourselfdown on more than one occasion
by saying you were going to dosomething and life getting in
the way and you did not followthrough.
So to avoid that, I want you tosay what you're going to do,
but I want you to break it down,so step by step.

(06:14):
For instance, if you want tolet's say you want to purchase a
home Now purchasing a home canseem like a really big thing to
do, but let's break it down.
Get your credit right, have thedown payment First, have a
realtor, know where you want tomove.
You see how all of those steps, that's like four or five steps

(06:34):
right there, and you can breakthose down even smaller.
So what happens to yourconfidence is, each time you hit
that step, you're like, okay,I'm flexing a little bit because
you can feel yourself gettingcloser to the goal.
And then the goal goes higherand higher and higher and before
you know it, you look up,you're in your new house.
But it does not happenovernight.

(06:55):
It happens with youstrategically putting yourself
in position so that you can bedisciplined and be focused even
when you didn't think you couldbe.
That's why smaller goals arekey, not saying you shouldn't
have big ones or bigger goals, but you want to have the smaller
, step-by-step goals too.
The next one this is where Ithink a lot of us we shy away

(07:19):
from.
To stay disciplined, I want youto do two.
It's two words be vocal or, letme switch it up, be vocal
accountability partner.
Either of those you're going towin, because the more vocal you
can be and the more accountablepeople can keep you.
It's going to help you bedisciplined even when you don't

(07:40):
feel like it.
See, at times it's hard tocontinue talking about something
that you want and desire.
So now you're sharing it,you're being honest and truthful
, and then you have anaccountability partner to hold
you accountable.
It's going to help you getthere when normally, if it's
just you.
You're keeping something toyourself.
You can get off track.
That's the beauty of writingyour goals down.

(08:02):
That's the beauty of sayingyour goals out loud, because now
you've actually I won't saymanifested it, but you're
putting it out there in theuniverse and you're attracting
it.
See, when it's in here, it isjust only in your mind.
As soon as you talk yourselfinto doing something or into
staying focused, you can quicklytalk yourself out of being

(08:22):
focused too.
But I want you to be vocal.
Share with somebody.
Share with somebody too.
Let's be strategic about this.
I don't want you just sharingit with anybody.
Somebody.
Share it with somebody too.
Let's be strategic about this.
I don't want you just sharingit with anybody.
I want you sharing your goalswith somebody that's going to
hold you, like hold your feet tothe fire, who's going to make
sure they check in with you.
You check in with them.
That's the type of person thatyou want.
That's like a, I guess, a cheatcode to being focused that you

(08:45):
have the right persons or peoplearound you.
But y'all be vocal and have anaccountability partner.
So let's recap, because Ireally want you to get this
discipline and be and staydisciplined even when you don't
feel like it.
Number one is it's going to beimperative, you have to see
yourself winning.
Number two it's going to beequally as imperative I want you

(09:09):
to set smaller goals.
And then number three you haveto be vocal in a cheat code is
having an accountability partner.
Yeah, we had to go there.
If you struggle with discipline, I believe I really do believe
that if you apply theseprinciples, you're going to see
yourself winning quicker, fasterand stand on track longer.

(09:32):
All right, y'all listen, share, subscribe and let me know like
comment too.
But, as always, be blessedPeace.
Thank you all for listening toanother episode of the peace and
prosperity podcast.
Again, if you are feeling like, hey, I'm experiencing high

(09:52):
functioning anxiety, don't beatyourself up about it.
It is okay.
We all experience anxiety fromtime to time and I gave you a
couple of things that you can doon your own, but don't hesitate
to reach out to a professionalto better manage what you're
going through.
Okay, and lastly, make sure, ifyou have not like, share,

(10:16):
subscribe to the podcast andsend this out to a friend.
And if you want to hear certainepisodes or have certain
conversations, let me know.
