Jamie Stephens (00:00):
Hello, and welcome back to another episode

(00:02):
of Breaking up with corporate.
Today I want to talk to youabout season one wrap up. This
podcast, we are wrapping upseason one after 43 episodes,
published 1506 downloads, andthose downloads are in 24
countries across six continents.

(00:26):
So I just wanted to say thankyou, I am so glad that you're
here, I'm so glad that you havejoined me on this journey. And
today, I really just want tokind of look back and basically
just kind of see how far I'vecome. You know, it's really
interesting the growth that I'veexperienced over the last year.

(00:47):
And besides just deep gratitudefrom the bottom of my heart for
you actually being here andgiving me sharing this time with
me.
So I really, truly want to saythank you. And we're gonna go
through just kind of a recap ofthe different type of guests
that we've had on the show somekey themes that have emerged,

(01:09):
things that I've learned, youknow, really just kind of get
into it, my favorite parts, andthen what's coming up next. So
thank you for being here. Andwe're just going to jump right
in. So as far as the differenttype of guests, this is really
something that has quitehonestly, been such a pleasant

(01:33):
surprise, I was really thinkingwhenever I first started was
gonna first do a podcast that Iwould do a bunch of solo
episodes, and maybe have a guesthere and there. And what I found
is, it's actually a lot easierto talk to someone else than it
is to talk to yourself in frontof a microphone. So besides the

(01:54):
five day challenge that I did, like, I've only had a handful of
solo episodes. So even stufflike this, like this is still a
skill that I'm developing. Andso it's just like, I don't know,
one of those things. But I'vehad so many different types of
guests, and they have all comevery easily, which was not

(02:16):
something I was expecting.
And maybe it's the type of show, maybe it's just that we get to
highlight women's stories andreally highlight them and what
they're doing for people. And Ithink that that's a real easy
thing to say yes to. But I havemet these women incredible
women, through word of mouththrough groups that I'm in

(02:37):
through Instagram through thispodcasting course itself. And I
have interviewed women on theshow, from all ages from like,
mid 20s to 60. Plus, I don'treally know people's ages, as
far as you know, it's just notsomething I really asked. But
for real, there's people who arebasically straight out of

(02:59):
college all the way up toretirement, and it's never too
early, it's never too late. Youknow, one of the things that I
think we tend to struggle withis that, you know, we're always
feel like we're to something, and I really am so proud to
bring you this lineup of guests.
So no matter what your excuses, you can say, Oh, I'm too young,

(03:20):
oh, look at her, I'm too old, well look at her, you know, I'm
to XYZ, like there's stories inthere that really
just give a whole breadth oflike, what is possible, there's
women who left with a plan, money in the bank, there's women

(03:44):
who just couldn't take itanymore left without a plan, and
knew that they would figure itout. We've had stories where
there is been slow and steadygrowth. And sometimes it takes
multiple times, which is kind ofmy own story as well. But
there's also stories of womenthat have just hit the ground
running. And I also think thatthose stories are so valuable

(04:09):
that you can see both sides.
Like it's whatever you'rewilling to believe and it's what
you're willing to get your yourbrain and your mind behind
because that's really like theevidence is out there. So
whether it is the like the womenwho have started brand new
things that they've never donebefore or if they're reworking

(04:30):
their corporate skills, or ifthey made money right away, or
if it took a lot of time. Thestories are out there, like what
you want to do and how you wantto do it and all of those things
like they're available. And soit brings me so much pleasure
that I was able to bring such aplethora of guests that really

(04:52):
just show all the different waysto succeed because it's not just
a one stop shop andThis is the only way that you
can do it. And I am so proudthat I have been able to have
such an amazing class of womencome through that have really
just touched me. And I hope thathas translated through the,

(05:14):
through the microphone here. Andso some of the key things that
really key themes that emerged,I mean, entrepreneurship.
I have said it before, and Iwill continue to say it, but it
is the biggest therapy sessionthere like you can imagine,

(05:40):
every single thing that you faceas an entrepreneur is another
opportunity for you to step intomore of who you are, and really
start to peel off layers andpeel apart, like all the things
that you thought you knew aboutyourself. Because being in this
situation, being an entrepreneurjust really has a way of really

(06:02):
just tearing away all of thebullshit. And one of the are the
themes that emerged from this,it's not just me, you know,
these women are resilient, andthey desire to make an impact.
And you really have to havelike, that desire to help the
desire to really share what youknow, and really have something

(06:25):
bigger than yourself that you'reworking for. And all of these
women have taken their careers, their personal growth, their
situations as theirresponsibility, you know, nobody
is coming to save you, nobody iscoming to take on anything that
you want to do and make ittheir, you know, personal

(06:48):
mission, it is your personalmission, it's things that are
intrinsic to you that you wantto bring forth.
And that takes a real strength.
And so I know that sounds likeall of the really hard things,
but it's really like what ithonestly truly takes to be an
entrepreneur. And there are somany stories of falling down and

(07:11):
getting back up again, andthings not working out and all
of that. And like I said, it'sjust I'm so glad that I have
gotten to share these stories, because they mean so much to me.
And it's such just goodinformation and good, like life
experience that these women havebeen through overcome are

(07:34):
teaching others how to do thatall of the things. And so not
only have I really learned a lotthis year, as far as like my
technical skills. But I've alsolearned so much about myself. So
let's just kind of like breakthat down for a second because I
am taking this as an opportunityto celebrate myself and

(07:58):
celebrate this podcast becauseit's not something that comes
naturally to me. And it issomething that I have challenged
myself to do more of over thepast year. And that's really to
pause and celebrate how far I'vecome and not focus on Okay,
well, I'm not where I want tobe. But when I look back and see

(08:18):
how far I've come see the thingsthat I've learned. I'm not just
like pissed off that I'm notwhere I want to be yet I look
back and I thought, wow, like, there's so much that
goes into this. And there's somuch growth that I've had, and
everything always takes longerthan I think it should. But

(08:39):
like, over the past year, I havelearned to produce a podcast,
I've learned to find interviewpitch guests. I've learned about
editing, and marketing, andInstagram and all of those sorts
of things. But I've alsolearned, like presence, I've
learned how to really like dropin and sit with somebody and

(09:04):
have empathy and gratitude andreally just be with someone in
the moment and not thinking like14 steps ahead like I normally
do. But really just being withthem and hearing their story
being in that flow, being inconversation being just really
present with someone. I've hadmy own personal growth around

(09:30):
things like worthiness andperfection and identity. I've
done work on receiving and theimpact that I want to make and
self love and boundaries andfollowing my intuition like the
past year has taught me moreabout myself than any college

(09:50):
degree. Any like years ofworking for someone else because
I've never had to do eggs sohard, like to really reach and
reveal the things about myselfthat I want to bring to the
surface that have been burieddeep that I have allowed to stay

(10:11):
hidden. And I'm really proud ofthat. And I am super excited
that just the way that I havechosen to show up for the last
year, I have been 100%,transparent about my feelings
about stuff about where I'm atabout things that are happening

(10:34):
in the business. And I just, Iam so glad that you are on this
journey with me. And it's such acool thing that, you know, we
get to try something totallydifferent. And all of the things
that come from that all of theskills that you can learn
whenever you try and do andchallenge yourself. So I mean,

(10:56):
it's always one of the thingsthat I've learned about
learning. But I've no, it'salways one of the things I've
loved about learning, but neverhas that ever been so evident as
it has this past year, however, and all of that to say my very
favorite part, hands down, noquestions asked. And it has,

(11:17):
like been the biggest surpriseto me because as an introvert,
it's not really something that Ihad on the radar as a reward for
what would come from thispodcast. And I don't really know
why. But the friendships that Ihave formed with so many women
that I've had the opportunity tointerview. And I mean, I have

(11:40):
friends, like seriously acrossthe country, and in Canada, now
that I can really, like callfriends, like, I've, I don't
even know how to explain it, theintimacy and depth of the
conversations I've had withthese women. And just like, skip
the bullshit, let's get straightto like the good stuff. Like, I

(12:04):
feel like there's a bonding inthat. And I, yeah, I now have
friends across the like acrossthe country, across North
America. And it's really superfascinating to me. And it's been
one of the blessings that Ireally, honestly didn't
understand in the beginning thatthat would be something that

(12:24):
came from it. And it'sdefinitely something that I want
to continue. Because I do thinkthat expanding your network and
expanding friendships andmeeting women on a similar path,
or with a similar ambition andwomen that can you can learn
from that can challenge you thatyou can also contribute to the
conversation and like grow eachother. There is so much value in

(12:49):
that. And so that has been justa really, really fun experience
for me, like, I don't know thatI got into the whole podcasting
thing because I expected to makefriendships and or have fun,
because it was kind of like, oh,that sounds kind of fun, kind of

(13:09):
interesting. But it was fun in awhole other way. It was a, it's
fun to learn. It's fun to grow.
It's fun to meet all of theseamazing women. And it's just
been honestly something that Iwish I would have started years
ago. And I have no plans ofquitting. So even though there

(13:29):
will be kind of a switch up onhow things are going to go for
season two. So let's get intoit. What is happening next. So
Kathleen McDermott was my verylast interview for season one.
And that was on Monday. So youare hearing the season one wrap

(13:49):
up a week later. And over thelast year, I have done, I don't
know 10, possibly 10 interviewsfor other podcasts that have
been really a documentation ofmy journey this year. And it's
really fun, I am going torelease them. The show shows

(14:14):
that have already aired but onother people's podcasts, I'm
going to release them inchronological order. And so you
can kind of see the whole arc myjourney has taken and the things
that I grappled with that youreally didn't get to see as part
of my show because my focusreally was on the the guests

(14:34):
even though you know we weretalking or contributing and you
know, kind of having that backand forth. There wasn't a whole
lot about me, aside from thosejust handful, not even handful,
the two solo episodes that Idid. So this is a fun way to
really kind of see the arc ofthe journey in a chronological
order. That really does paintthe picture of life What I've

(15:00):
been through for the last yearas far as not just the learning
and growing, but also the waysthat I really kind of struggled
to find my place and to find myfooting and to figure out
exactly how I'm going to makemoney and all of the things
because once I have like, finally gotten clarity, I mean,

(15:23):
many of you know that I am nowback at a corporate job. And
I've been there a month, Iactually really love it, she
surprised even me. But all ofthat to say, there are going to
be episodes that you're going tohear the whole
arc of this season one, likefrom a different perspective,

(15:44):
that's really, really fun tohear. And I'll be listening
alongside you to just kind ofrelive that space that I was in
whenever I recorded thoseepisodes. Starting back to all
the way the very first one thatyou'll hear was with crystal
Carruthers. And it was actuallymy very first interview, period,

(16:06):
like it was October of lastyear, she I was her very first
interview on her podcast, it wasthe first time I'd ever been
interviewed the first like Iinterviewed her just as a I
mean, it was not anything thataired, but it was like a
practice session. So it'sreally, it's gonna be fun. I
mean, maybe it's only fun forme, but I think you'll enjoy it.

(16:30):
But with the whole like, ohshit, like I'm happy and
corporate now who knew there'sgoing to be a rebrand for season
two, because entrepreneurship isin my bones. It's not something
that's going away. It'ssomething that I've always
loved. And I will alwayscontinue to love. And even
though breaking up withcorporate still has a special

(16:53):
place in my heart, because Ithink that you can break up with
corporate and break up with thecorporate mindset, as well. Like
I still have plans ofentrepreneurship, I still have
plans to have choices and havemoney and income that is not
tied solely to an employer thatyou know, can be bought that can

(17:17):
go under that can I can get laidoff that I could lose my job,
like all of the things, I stilldesire, my own financial freedom
away from any institution, thatgives me a paycheck. So that is
very important to me. Andsomething that I will continue
to do. I do plan on releasing aseason two that will come out in

(17:41):
January. So there will beprobably a month or so of
interim where there won't be anynew shows. But I will keep you
guys posted on the rebrand. forseason two, it's no longer going
to be breaking up with corporateI'm playing with some ideas of
names and that sort of thing.
But I'll get you involved in thelike artwork and that kind of

(18:02):
stuff. And maybe even the namingof it. Over on Instagram at
Jamie Renee that's J am i e r ie n e. But that's where I'm at.
That's what's coming. There willbe season two, it will still be
an entrepreneurship focus, itwill be less about like leaving

(18:26):
your corporate job and morefocused on really building up
income and like the way I don'tI'm just bullshitting you at
this point. I don't know whatit's going to be about. The
things that I do know that I amplaying with right now is

(18:47):
mindset systems and technology.
Because basically, I want togeek out with really smart
business owners and really talkabout everything that's kind of
going on behind the business.
That is one of the names I'mthinking out about behind the
biz behind the business, something along those lines. So

(19:09):
Oh, no, stay tuned, we'll figureit out. I mean, you should know
by now that this is very much awe are going to go with the flow
because this is a journey. Andthis is not just something that
you know, I want to I don'tknow, I don't know where I was
going with that. It's a journey.

(19:33):
Period. Thank you for being onit with me. I really appreciate
you being here. I reallyappreciate you making it this
long listening to theseramblings. And I hope that
you'll take a listen to the nextepisodes that are coming up and
really kind of see the wholebehind the scenes from a
different point of view andreally just know that I

(19:55):
appreciate you.
I'm glad you're here on thisjourney with me. And I could not
have done it without you. Andthank you. Thank you, thank you
can find me on Instagram. I'mpretty sure I'm getting rid of
Facebook. I'm just so over allof that. And I'm trying to
simplify where I'm at so that Ican be more intentional with the

(20:20):
last time that I have and all ofthose sorts of things. So come
say hi on Instagram, go aheadand make sure that you are
