(00:05):
Hello, thank you for joining metoday on the Private
Investigator Experience Podcast.
I'm your host, Phil Little.
On this channel, we look at thecases in the life of a PI and
also report on national andinternational violence that can
affect us here at home.
You might ask, how did a localPI get involved in international
affairs?
(00:26):
My investigative life soon ledme, shortly after I became a PI,
into the mysterious world ofterrorism and intelligence in
the Middle East.
From this, I developed aworldview that has guided my
investigative work.
As the State Farm commercial, you know, commercials work,
likes to say, We've seen somethings, we've learned some
(00:47):
things, and we've done somethings.
In my world travels, I havelearned some things.
Before I, lay out today's case,I want to mention some things
that are going on in this fastpaced international world.
First, the EU got a wake up callwhen Vice President Vance spoke
at the Munich SecurityConference.
(01:09):
He made it clear that the EUmembers were going to have to
step up and take the lead intheir own security.
The U.
S.
would help, but not be the moneypot that it has been.
This got their attention.
They panicked.
Some were even, weeping on thestage at how bad the U.
(01:29):
S.
was.
When we were talking about freespeech and they need to move
back towards that.
In fact, uh, President Macron ofFrance called an emergency
meeting in Paris and theyarrived there yesterday.
I think they're still there asI'm, recording this of the EU
leaders to discuss what theyneed to do.
(01:49):
Well, it's about time.
I also, might mention that ishappening right now and last
night and today, the, peaceagreement with Ukraine is in
jeopardy due to, Zelensky doubledealing, apparently it appears
like he's been behind the scenestrying to do really deal with
(02:12):
Europe, to station a couplehundred thousand troops in
Ukraine to give them access torare, precious earths and
leaving the U.
S.
out of it and not really dealingwith stopping the war at this
time.
It appears like that could drawthe, EU into this conflict and
(02:32):
maybe even the U S so it's goingto be interesting to see how
this all turns out.
So keep your antennas up youreyes open and your ears open.
Then the second thing.
This is one of the most commonsense approaches to solving the
Middle East, problems of the warbetween, Israel and the Islamic,
Jihad, Hamas, and others whowant to destroy Israel and the
(02:53):
Jewish people.
I encourage everyone to go toAlisha Lebon.
That's, Elica Le Bon two wordsthere, her podcast, and listen
to her as she lays out whatcould be the obvious solution.
Alisa is a daughter of Iran, whois an Iranian American attorney
(03:16):
and an American and aninfluencer.
As I listened to her solution,it was so apparent, I wonder why
I didn't see this or didsomebody smarter than me on the
international stage see this?
She grew up under the Islamicterror in Iran and her pointed
and passionate solution is asfollows, and I'm just going to
summarize this, you need to golisten to it yourself.
(03:39):
She reminded us that after WorldWar II, the UN was set up so
there would not be anotherHolocaust.
In dealing with the Nazi party.
Members didn't try to appease, give them money, buy them off,
be nice to them, and, help them,be nice to the world and get
along.
(03:59):
No, they didn't do that.
They eliminated them completely.
They cut out the cancer.
Yes.
There are Parkinson's diseasetoday.
No consequence or did they havean effect on world security?
She says that the apporch by theUN and the world to the radical
(04:21):
Islamic terrorists who want todestroy Israel has been to give
them vast amounts of money andallow them to idolize and pay
the terrorists for killing Jews.
Elica says that the only way tohave Middle East peace is to
eliminate all the Islamicradicals.
and their organizations just aswe did with the Nazis and not to
(04:45):
appease them.
Please listen to Elisa for thecomplete message, and it's
compelling.
And she mentioned also theNuremberg trials exposed the
world, all of the evil that theNazis has done.
And it's time that terroristsand their evil is exposed to the
(05:06):
world.
So check it out.
let's get this information outand pose this as another
solution that the world shouldbe looking towards.
Now, today's PI case.
I've worked on hundreds ofsimilar cases, uh, and the
conclusion to this one was notwhat we actually found.
I learned again, you can'tassume anything as an
(05:28):
investigator.
Well, let's call this case amysterious intrusion.
The case of the woman whothought someone was coming into
her home.
It started at a quiet suburbantown of Eagle Rock, just on the
northeast edge of Los Angeles.
Mrs.
Eleanor Roberts.
(05:48):
Assume name here.
A woman in her late 60s, livingalone, began noticing strange
occurrences in her home.
Little did she know that heroccurrences would lead her to
West Coast Detectives to have aseasoned investigator try to
find out what's going on.
This document provides acomprehensive account of the
(06:12):
mysterious case where Mrs.
Roberts believed someone was inher home and moving things
around in her absence.
The background on this was Mrs.
Roberts first became suspiciouswhen she returned home one
evening to find her living roomlightly rearranged.
The cushions on the couch, normally placed with meticulous
(06:34):
precision, were askew.
I happen to know some peoplethat are like that, that
everything has to be in itsplace, and if it's a little bit
off, they walk in the room, theyknow it.
a framed photograph of her latehusband had moved from the
mantelpiece to a side table.
At first, she dismissed these asanomalies, as lapses in her
(06:56):
memory when a result of heroccasional absentmindedness.
However, the feelings of beingwatched and a growing sense of
ease kept gnawing at her Overthe next weeks, Mrs.
Roberts noticed other peculiarchanges.
Books were taken off shelf andmisplaced Kitchen items shifted.
The scent of an unfamiliarcologne lingered in the air.
(07:19):
Feeling increasingly unsettled, she decided to seek professional
help.
Mrs.
Roberts contacted West CoastDetectives and arranged for a
meeting with me.
And in our first meeting, shesaid she had chosen our agency
because of the reputation we hadfor keen observation skills and
methodical approach.
She also said she had read somearticles about me that hold our
(07:42):
agency to the little FBI.
When she entered my office, shelooked like she had stepped out
of an Agatha Christie novel.
She was a bundle of five foot ofenergy with a flower hat and a
colorful blouse and long skirt.
She had a small purse clutchedin her hands, and they were
neatly folded in her lap, andshe sat on the edge of her
(08:03):
chair, leaning forward towardsmy desk.
During our initial meeting, shedetailed her experiences and
expressed her fears.
I listened intently, took notes, and assured her that we would
get to the bottom of themystery.
I asked her how long had thisactivity been going on, and she
replied for some months.
(08:25):
She said she was embarrassed andhadn't told anyone, even her
family, who she thought mightthink she was getting senile, or
her mind deteriorating, and theymight want to put her down in an
old folks home, and said Icouldn't have that.
As she told me the details and Ilistened, the details reminded
me of many cases that we hadworked which are so similar and
(08:47):
most of these cases turned outto be the person's imagination.
As I talked to her and suspectedthis may be the case this time,
I gently suggested to her thatit might be just her forgetting
where things were.
She bristled up quickly andsaid, Mr.
Little.
If you don't want to take mycase, I will go to a detective
(09:09):
who will.
I smiled and reached out my handand said, Welcome as a client to
West Coast Detectives.
I arranged to go to her home, which was about 8 miles from our
headquarters in downtown LosAngeles the following morning.
She had mentioned that shethought she might have someone
following her, so when she leftour headquarters, I sent an
(09:30):
agent out to observe to see ifthey could pick up anyone that
might be following her.
And it turned out to be anegative.
The next morning, in a quiet, peaceful suburb with rows of
well manicured lawns, myinvestigation began with a
thorough inspection of Mrs.
Roberts home.
I examined the locks, windows, possible other entry points for
(09:53):
signs of tampering.
Not to my surprise, there was noclear indication of a forced
entry.
This led me to ask Mrs.
Roberts if there was apossibility of someone having a
key or access code.
She, said that there was no onethat she knew about.
After spending a few hourschecking the property and
talking to her, getting herfeelings on what was happening,
(10:17):
I suspected at that point, thiswas just her imagination going
on.
I noticed the places where sheshowed me some things that were
moved.
I found that where they had beensitting, there was dust around
the edges.
And when I picked them up, therewas dust under them, which
showed they hadn't been movedfor a while.
Well, my instincts, told me Ihad a paranoid client, but I
(10:41):
knew I needed facts to convinceher that someone wasn't coming
into her home when she was gone.
You know, a picture is worth athousand words.
To get the facts that I couldshow Mrs.
Roberts, I would need toinstall, very discreet
surveillance cameras instrategic locations around the
house and, on the front and rearentrances and also place some,
(11:05):
motion sensors near the windowsand doors to detect any of
unauthorized movement.
And, we would be able to pick upany unusual activity without
alerting the intruder.
Over the In the next couple ofdays, I sent our camera
installation team and went withthem to guide them on where to
(11:27):
place the devices, and we usedsmall hidden type devices that
were hidden so anyone coming inwouldn't even notice them or be
alerted to the presence of theirbeing watched.
Over the next week.
The surveillance footage didn'tprovide any visible insight.
(11:47):
But into the second week, thingsbegin to change.
on several occasions.
The camera captured a shadowyfigure entering the house
through the front door.
The person was discreetlywalking up to the door, looking
around as if to see if anyonewas out, but the neighborhood
was so quiet.
(12:08):
No one was around, and so theintruder wasn't even noticed.
He was very, meticulous, and itappeared he had particular,
interest in certain areas of thehome.
I analyzed the footage and notedthe intruder's pattern.
The individual appeared to havea routine, entering the house at
(12:30):
a specific time and focusing onrearranging items without
causing significant damage.
The careful movements suggesteda deliberate attempt to create a
psychological unease rather thanto steal or vandalize.
Perhaps all my years ofexperience with so many cases
(12:51):
was going to render a newoutcome on this one.
It seems that Mrs.
Roberts had not been wrong.
Someone was trying to get herattention.
But who and why?
And was there any threat to Mrs.
Roberts in this?
With the evidence mounting, mynext step was to identify the
(13:13):
intruder.
And looking at the footage ofthe days and times when the
intruder had arrived, we didsome profiling and determined
that a possible day of the weekthat the person might be there
in the time, which was going tobe later in the afternoon.
Mrs.
Roberts had a habit of aboutevery afternoon of going out for
(13:34):
a walk late in the afternoon.
The sun would still be out, there'd still be some light, but
sometimes it would be near dusk,so the light would be fading.
I decided also to, use asurveillance van, which had a
vendor sign on the side, settingthis right, up to street from
(13:55):
the next house up from hers, where we had a great view of the
front and anyone going into theback would not be suspicious.
this would be, an obvious way todetermine, if the person, got
there that we could get insidequickly.
I also had stationed another, car up the street with, another
(14:15):
investigator in the event thatwe had an issue with the person
on any takedown that we might bedoing.
Now, on that evening, we got outof, out there.
Mrs.
Roberts, we watched her go outfor her usual walk.
We waited patiently in the van,and after about an hour, I saw
(14:37):
this figure walking down thestreet, kind of head down, and I
really couldn't make out theperson's face.
he just casually was walking andthen just kind of cut into her,
walkway.
And he went to the door and hehad a key in his hand because he
quickly put the key in and wentinside and shut the door behind
(14:57):
him.
At this point, I told the agent, okay, let's go.
I radioed the other agent tomove in, to be at the front of
the house after we went in.
And I was hoping he didn't lockthe door behind him.
And when we got to the door, hedidn't, we opened it softly and
we followed the intruder insidecarefully not to be detected.
(15:18):
And there was a, a frontentryway with a small room off
to the right, and the livingroom was beyond that.
So we had the ability toapproach the living room, stay
out of sight, and kind of peeparound the doorway and to see
what he was doing.
When we, saw the, young manmoving some things around, I
(15:39):
called out to him and said, Whatare you doing in Mrs.
Robert's home?
He spun around, wickedsurprised.
And very quickly said, I'm Mrs.
Roberts, nephew, David.
And I felt a sense of easebecause I could sense that we
weren't going to have anyconfrontation situation that we
might need to use some kind offorce.
(16:00):
As we sat down, I asked him, whywas he coming into the house
when she was gone?
He explained that he had fallenon hard times and feeling guilty
about asking for help.
He decided to try to get herattention.
Obtained a spare key.
And he hoped that by subtlyaltering the house, Mrs.
Roberts would feel compelled totalk to him.
(16:22):
He was her, kind of, closestfamily contact.
This opened a line ofcommunication where he would be
able to share his situation.
I suggested that we wait forMrs.
Roberts to come home so we couldtalk to her and explain what had
gone on.
I've been going on.
When Mrs.
Roberts arrived home, she wassurprised to see me there with
(16:43):
her nephew, and David expressedhis remorse and explained the
situation.
Mrs.
Roberts, relieved to have ananswer to the disturbing
occurrences, forgave her nephew.
They agreed to establish clearboundaries and communication
moving forward.
The conclusion to this would beThis case of Mrs.
(17:03):
Roberts serves as a testament tothe importance of trust,
communication, and professionalexpertise.
It needs to remember that everyclient case is different and not
to assume the results before wedo the investigation.
And I learned in this that thiscase wasn't like most of the
(17:24):
others.
This one had a real whodunit init.
And we were able to find out whoit was and get it solved for the
client's satisfaction.
This case will be.
Another one filed away as a jobwell done and the client happy
and successful in the results.
(17:46):
