A 31-year-old man from Northridge, California, named Raj Matharu was accused of attempting to smuggle methamphetamine on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Sydney, Australia. When Matharu's two checked bags went through the airport's X-ray machines, customs officers grew suspicious. Upon opening the bags, the officers discovered over a dozen stiff, dried articles of clothing covered in a white residue, including a cow onesie. Subsequent tests revealed that the clothes had been soaked in a methamphetamine solution and left to dry. This method concealed over one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine within the fabric of the clothes. Matharu was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The United States Attorney, Martin Estrada, commented on the case, highlighting the constant innovation of drug dealers in their pursuit of illicit profits through smuggling dangerous narcotics, which ultimately poisons communities worldwide.
