excited to get that projectstarted because this year, by
popular request, I am making allthe outfits for the calendar. So
I'm excited for that. And today,I also have talking about
(01:35):
beautiful women with cars. Ihave a beautiful woman here with
me. Her name is Charlie, thereal Miss Murphy owner and
publisher of car culture Deluxeand oh, oh, rods.
Charlie (01:50):
How are you doing
today? I'm so good. How are you
doing? I'm doing good. I'm doinggood. I'm doing good. I'm so
happy to have you here. I'm soexcited to be here.
Miss Pinup Miami (02:01):
Tell us a
little bit about you. I know
you're a publisher. You're anintern. You're published model
makeup artist, photographer,photographer. I don't I do a
lot.
Charlie (02:16):
Um, yeah. So I started
out in my industry as a model.
AndI modeled when I was younger,
and I modeled with photographersand things like that. And then I
quickly got within an agency hadbabies and life and that kind of
stuff. I wanted to learn how totake care of my family, just not
(02:39):
for modeling. Because I knew oneday that wasn't going to be
around, you know, like I can't Ican't just you know, depend on
modeling alone. So I reallyloved hair and makeup. I've
played with hair and makeupsince I was a little girl and I
loved making myself over andtrying new makeup tricks and
(02:59):
things like that. And I'vealways loved Jayne Mansfield. I
think she's the coolest broad intown. She
Unknown (03:11):
she's just you know, I
don't know, I just have a I have
a special place for her in myheart. So, um, it was kind of
crazy as I started going on withmy modeling, and I got lots of
requests to model as her andthere was a photographer, I
could see it. Yeah. It was aphotographer that that wanted me
(03:34):
to shoot with him. And he wastelling me, you know, you, you
should really learn photography, and I was doing hair and makeup
for him already because I got mycosmetology license along the
way and everything. And hebrought me along and he was
like, you know, you shouldreally learn photography and I
was already shooting kinda Iguess pent up inspired because
(03:55):
it was a lot of Maryland girland Jayne Mansfield that I was
getting requested to shoot withphotographers. And so it just
kind of spiraled from there. Iinterned with him. I learned
everything about lightingcameras, hair and makeup and
posing and set building andI can't even disguise you
(04:18):
learned everything that's madeyou become who you are today
because now it's led you to themagazine, right? Yes, yes,
totally.
And magazine is all about how itlooks. So you already have the
basis of how it works. So you Ithink that's great that then you
incorporate everything, youknow, it's not just it's like a
last last week I had a guest andshe was all about the signs that
(04:42):
you get in life and I felt likeYeah, yeah, all your signs look
like they aligned perfectly withwhat you're doing today. I was
just talking about that with afriend today that it's like
everything kind of lining up towhere
I've always you know, wanted tobe and like what
I have aspired to kind of do soyeah. So let me ask you about
(05:04):
women empowerment. How did youfeel when you learned in the
beginning of being with yourwith a photographer? Um, did you
find any difficulties of being awoman in photography? Yes, I
would say in some ways I did.
Um, I feel like the industry. Asfar as female photographers,
there's a lot of competing.
(05:31):
I feel like not a lot ofI don't feel like people are
very willing to help each other.
I don't feel like there'sjealousy or, or competition,
they see each other ascompetition instead of working
together and promoting eachother and learning from each
(05:51):
other. I feel like there wasthere's just a lot of competing,
which put a damper on me being aphotographer in this industry. I
really did.
Just give up on it. And I put mycamera down. Try not to cry talk
to you about that.
(06:13):
So I want to put my camera down,Mike. I had teamed up I had just
teamed up with my my friend,Sarah Hardcastle who owns
dynamite games, photography. AndI, you know, I told her, I was
burned out.
I was really tired of the scene.
And I felt like, I'm sorry,sorry, everybody.
(06:40):
I felt likeI felt like doing hair and
makeup, I can kind of hide alittle bit and pull myself back
and really just work on myself alittle bit.
I needed a break.
So Sarah gave me the chance todo that. And we we mingled we, I
(07:02):
guess we co branded ourcompanies together and became
one. And when we did that, weteamed up I
was friends with a plus sizemodel in our community that was
really well known. And we hadteamed up with her to do a tour.
Andit was exactly what I needed at
that time. I feel like it was abody positive tour. It was
(07:26):
something to give back to womeninspire women and bring women
togetherIt was actually really healing
for me and super inspiring allat the same time.
It moved me I met so manyguys I'm gonna cry and be a cry
baby all through this.
(07:50):
Nobody This is important toshare. Because I've also learned
in in struggles that like andseeing and when you open now i'm
i'mis that you you feel like alone
in these situations. And that'swhat that's actually one of the
points I wanted to touch on isthat we don't talk about our own
feelings and we make them wepush them aside, when we should
just be able to be open. Becauseat least in a woman's world,
(08:14):
it's always seen like, women aresupposed to take care of
everyone else and care aboutother people's feelings. And we
forget that we have feelings, too. Yeah. And that's what, so
don't feel bad.
SoI, I met so many amazing women,
and I got tomake women feel so beautiful.
(08:37):
And women gave them a chance tofeel like a supermodel and
really live like in a day ofwhat I would get to do or the
plus size model that was on tourwith us we get to do so. It was
really neat. To just upliftwomen and be around women and
and just inspire I grew, I grewso much and I learned so much
(09:03):
from that tour. So what do youconsider women empowerment? I
feel like women empowerment tome anyway, I just tried to
inspire and to be kind and tolift and to help and just be a
good friend to women. I feellike being a woman to watch is
(09:28):
important. I feel like youshould be always thinking about
leading by example, basically.
So I mean, I guess that's kindof what I feel about women
empowerment. I don't know ifthat's the right definition
for why other people wouldconsider it. Well before before
(09:51):
when I was prepping for thisepisode actually wanted to look
it up because I myself did notknow the what women empowerment
in definition was and it'sWomen Empowerment is all about
allowing women to make lifedetermining decisions through
different problems through thedifferent problems in society.
So giving an opportunity forwomen that are not always there,
but you're giving it because youknow that they're going through
(10:14):
struggles. That's what I'mgetting from it. Yeah, totally.
Yeah. So normally giving themopportunity like you are, when
you went touring, you gavepeople the opportunity they
couldn't have had, if they werejust in their same old, same old
way, giving them lots of tunityto dress up to feel like they're
a model for the day to feelempowered through the lens with
your offer, especially with yourplus size model as, as a as a
(10:38):
plus size model myself, I'mlike, you know, I love making
other women feel the way that Ido. And that's what I do in my
calendar. And I have also doneworkshops, but I'm not a
professional hair and makeupwhen I do everyday workshops to
teach the everyday girl How todo their hair makeup with a
vintage flair. Right? Do youhave any stories while you were
(10:58):
on tour of like, anyone thatpops out?
I'm sure you have many. I can'tremember her name. But we had a
plus size African American womanthat come in, I believe from
Louisiana. And she was just shejust had the most amazing
(11:22):
energy.
She, um, she had so much selfconfidence. And she was just
like, gassing everyone up in theroom. And
she was just beautiful. And whenshe got on set, she was like,
covered and glam and feathersand big gown and everything. And
(11:47):
she laid herself out on set andwas like, I dripped sexy. And I
was like, Girl, yes.
She owned it. She owned it. Andit was just, it was so, so cool
to see. Because I feel at times, you know, you know, I being in
(12:08):
photography and dealing withwomen and making women over
every day, you get women thatjudge their bodies all the time
and to have someone of size comein and own, own their body and
own their sexiness. It was justit was really cool to see. And
she was she was inspiring theother women in the room. So it
(12:28):
was it was Yes. Cool. And Ialways love watching other
people inspire other people.
That makes my heart so happy. Sosnowball effect, you know,
right? Yeah, yeah, that's what Ithink like kindness as well,
like the same way that you'rerespecting these women that you
have on tour that yourphotographer is omitting through
the you know, everyone that isin this in your team, it
(12:50):
radiates to the person in frontof you, and then the people
around and be like, Oh, I can'twait to do my part. You know,
right anyway, becauseenvironment that's missing in
the world. And that's when Ithink the same message that we
do in the little photoshootsor shots will make it bigger,
and be kind, which is basicallywhat is happening in mini scale
(13:11):
in these little moments that youcreate for memories in life, but
I hope it ripples into people'slives. Does this makes sense?
Yeah, yes, yes. Totally. So howdo you feel in in, let's say in
your magazine, and what you'redoing now what you're doing is
your magazine, correct? Yes, I Imainly focus on my magazine in
(13:32):
my boutique right now.
Oh, yes. You just got a boutiquelocation. Congrats. Thank you.
How's that? We're super excited.
Um, I'm getting walls put up andshag walls put up and roses
everywhere right now andpainting it and getting it all
(13:53):
together. So we're hoping to beopen by March but we will see
depends on construction. Soyeah, well, then I gotta put
that on my list. Go to Texas goto Yes. Yes. And come to because
we have a studio too. It's alsoa studio space for photographers
to rent to so yeah. Yeah. So youstill do photography or you rent
(14:17):
it out?
No, I'll do photography too.
There. They can shoot with me orphotographers can rent it out
and shoot other people theretoo. So I'm going to just make a
creative space for everybody tocome and play a whole pub. Yeah,
to play have fun. And leave yourinsecurities at the door. Yes,
(14:38):
ma'am.
And as a model because you alsomodel a lot. Um, I actually one
of the questions that wannasomebody asked on Instagram.
Then I'm just gonna ask now iswhere do you get all your
outfits? Oh, well. I mostly wearpinup girl clothes.
(15:00):
I model for them. They alwaystake care of me and keep me
stylish. I love Laura and herstaff. They're amazing people.
I wear some vintage. Sometimes Icreate stuff like I'll pull
stuff from. I don't know, cheaper brands like Fashion Nova
(15:23):
and things like that. I just, Ijust play but a lot of my
wardrobe does come from pinupgirl. So and you style it
yourself. Mm hmm. Yeah, I styleeverything. I also am a stylist.
Oh, there you go. And I have astyling closet. And that's
another thing I love to do ismakeover women that way too, and
(15:44):
help them with a dress orwhatever they may need. Yeah.
We have a lot in common.
Yeah, I love it.
And so when you were on theother side of the camera, when
you model in your life, have youcome across any uncomfortable
moments?
(16:06):
Being a woman?
Yes, I have.
I have been in some reallyuncomfortable situations
as a female model, and it'smainly with male photographers.
I would, I would say always sayto women to always be careful in
(16:28):
screen who they're shootingwith. And I always say please
take an assistant with you nevergo alone. Any photographer
telling you to shoot alone?
That's probably not thephotographer. You should be
working with. Red Flag. Yeah, that's a red flag.
I mean, really, it's it's beenmale photographers. Female
photographers are amazing towork with. I'm super comfortable
(16:51):
with them. Most of them areinspiring and uplifting. And I
think well I have like, like all the female
photographers I worked with thathave so apes and so many
favorites. Sarah from dynamitedames is an amazing female
photographer. And of course, shewas on the tour with us and she
shot all all women of all sizesand and she's super body
(17:13):
positive. And thenas I would say, Nicki and Kandi
up in Kansas City of vixen pinupphotography. They are super
empowering women. Beautiful, beautiful work. And just, I
mean, amazing people to bearound. And then Susanna from
(17:36):
vestige photography. I've beenworking with her a lot lately.
And she is just amazing. And thebiggest sweetheart, so you girls
out in California, don't need togo see her. So
I've seen her photos of that youposted with her and they're
(17:56):
beautiful. I love them. And shealways finds like the most
craziest locations and I'malways like, what are you doing
to me?
I'm gonna never leave thisplace. Do you have like a dream?
Shoot you want to do one day?
Like a location or a style?
Well, um, I?
(18:17):
Well, I I don't know. I'vealways
I've always just like, whateverinspires me in the moment. I
don't think I bet I don't everthink I have had like a shoe
that was like my dream shooterdream shooter. Like, I don't
really know. Like, yeah, Idon't, I don't really I've just
(18:37):
like I create in the moment andhow I feel. As of right now.
Like my, my dream shoot that Igot to do was the other day was
spike and he shot me under mywagon will and my
one of the studio spaces I'mbuilding. He shot me under my
(18:58):
rhinestone fool. And underneathmy little wagon wheel chandelier
that I made so that that wassuper special. He made this
Texas gals dreams.
True. And yeah. And so that wasthat's been like, today like my
funnest show like something Ireally wanted to do and not to
do so.
(19:20):
What are other going back to themale photographers? I was
curious if there was any otherred flags you have for women to
keep an eye on when theyphotograph and with men. I would
always This is my thing whenwhen I'm working with male
photographers, and and they'renew and I don't really know them
and other people haven't reallyworked with them either. I
(19:43):
always think it's good. Youknow, they give you a release,
basically. And I always thinkit's good for a model as a model
to have their own release andtheir own guidelines. And if the
photographer doesn't want toagree with to agree to those
guidelines, then I mean Iwouldn't shoot with him.
So, I mean, that would mean,it's a way to protect you from
(20:03):
getting images out there thatyou didn't approve. And
yeah, I mean, it just helps, itjust protects you a little bit
more to have, that's a good ideato have a release. Yeah,
release. And I also would makesure like, you know, that
they're not touching you that, you know, onset when, you know,
(20:23):
they're needing to adjustsomething or your hairs in the
way and they come at you, Iwould just make sure that you
stay in, you know, I can't eventalk stand strong. And and say,
No, you know, let me know wherewhat I need to fix. So, you
know, I can do it myself. Idon't need you to help me that
(20:45):
way. So I just, you know, justbe protect yourself and also
demand the respect to there beboundaries there. So, and don't
have them tell you they takethis off? Yeah. Also, yeah,
that's another thing. You girls,do not let photographers talk
you into doing something thatyou're not comfortable doing.
(21:08):
Don't allow them to pressure youinto something that you're not
comfortable doing. I will admit,I have encouraged women to, you
know, shoot in lingerie or shootnude because they're talking
about they always wanted to doit. But they're scared. And I'm,
I'm like, No, boo, what are youscared of? Like, let's do this.
(21:29):
Like, let's do that. But I feellike if you're on set with a
man, and he's encouraging you todo, yeah, you know what I'm
saying? Like, it's just a littledifferent. And, you know, if you
told me no, I'm still not, youknow, I'm not comfortable,
Charlie, I would be like, I getyou boo. Like, it's when you're
ready when you're ready. I'm thegirl to see.
(21:53):
I have I have had a couple womenthat are always sick, they want
to do both wars. They want to dosomething nice for their
boyfriend. And it's always whatstops them is like the outfit at
least the people that come up tome are really up there plus size
women. So I'm like, you know, you need to first get
comfortable by yourself by alittle cute lingerie, get in the
(22:13):
mirror. So you know yourself outand then work your way into
like, Do you need help? I'llcome over and I'll just, we'll
just have you know, fake poodlesuntil you're ready for debut
with the photographer slowly.
They want to do it. It's notlike your question. They want to
do it. I also feel like a lot ofwomen
(22:35):
feel like they can't be sexy, orcertain women feel ashamed to
feel sexy. You have to look acertain way. Right? Yeah, yeah.
And that's definitely not thecase. So yeah.
And I want to talk aboutqualities that you think women
should have to feel, um,how to empower other women. You
(22:59):
know, I know we've talked aboutit, things have happened with
you what empowerment is, butwhat do you believe are some
qualities or like, what are whatI want to say like guidelines,
mag guidelines, things to liveby?
Like I said, you know, be a goodfriend. I think that's the most
(23:23):
important thing is just beingkind to people.
I feel like it's it's so easy tobe hateful, you know, it takes
it takes more strength to bekind like just being a good
friend. Like being a goodgirlfriend to your friends like
being there for each other andreally being a friend and not
(23:43):
gossiping and things like that.
Like that's, that's big to me.
Like that's like pretty muchnumber one on my list on female
empowerment. So I've learned howto deal with situations like
that because, you know, youdon't want to feed into
cattiness and I have learnedthat in order to empower women
and to not belittle anybody youknow, is don't feed into that
cattiness air it out and thatway you all work together
(24:06):
instead of feeding into whatevercattiness you know and that's
really helped my mentality. Imean, I don't straight off sale
like that, but I know Long Youknow, I feel like if people took
the extra step of not eatinginto gossip feeding into
negativity, it gets okay todisagree with somebody
especially a lot of politics.
Like some people hate um, butJuarez, you know, lingerie,
(24:29):
instead of just disagreeing andmaking people feel smaller, you
could disagree without beingsmaller without making a feel
bad. Right, totally validatingwomen's self expression like in
the beginning, when you talk acrying,
you can cry as much as you like.
We all have feelings and we needto acknowledge them. We just
(24:51):
keep putting, you know, thingsunder.
We sweep it under the rug. Sovalidation, I would say
currentlylamenting women. Yeah, we sweep
it under a surety that they justsweep under, you know, for me, I
was I'm always very insecure.
photographing, like, anythingwith my neck. So I always have
(25:12):
my head down or a dress thatgoes off. I don't know, it's a
weird thing, because I'm toldmy, the back of my mentor like
it is. No, I, I get you know, Iget you. I i I'm not comfortable
with my knock either. So I Itotally understand. Yeah. So you
always make sure and like, andI've learned to just speak up
and be like, you know, what thisphotographer has to know. Yeah,
(25:36):
so you know? Yeah, no, yeah, totally. Yeah. I tell everybody,
I'm like, excuse me, you'regonna have to, and we tend to
want to help others. But we alsoneed to help ourselves and take
mental breaks, and be able totake time to ourselves in order.
It's like when an airplane isfalling down. You know, when an
airplane is about to crash? Theytell you, you should put the
(25:57):
oxygen on the other personfirst. Yeah, no, but I mean, on
you first and then on the otherperson. And that's because if
you don't, if you don't helpyourself, you can't help the
people around you. So that's thesame kind of mentality that I've
also thought like womenempowerment should have care of
ourselves, being good friends, helping others once you're ready
(26:18):
to help others. Yes. And if youhave a platform, just like
yourself, use it to empowerwomen. And I also think women in
big positions, forget that, youknow, they didn't get there
overnight. And no, I wouldn't bewhere I'm at. Honestly, if I did
not have all of these femalesbehind me, like, seriously, I
(26:39):
have so many female fans, and Iappreciate every single one of
them. Every single person thatsupports me, I, I would not be
here without any of them. Icouldn't do what I'm doing
without any of them. So no,like, props to y'all.
Yeah, and then you in turn with, with all the support with you,
(27:01):
in turn, you support other womenas well, in touring in your
magazine, you brought lots oftypes of women onto your
magazine, you even have a girlon the cover. Yes, I've, I've,
this is the biggest thing withour magazine, there was not a
lot of diversity in our magazineat all. And that's something
that I'm changing, majorly. I'malso changing the fact that the
(27:23):
women were objectifiedinto extremes at times and not
magazine and not something thatI have snatched back and, and
took control over. And I'm notallowing that anymore. I'm not
objectifying women to makemoney. I want to make women feel
strong and beautiful andconfident and empower them and I
(27:44):
want them to look beautifulstanding next to a badass
fucking car. And, and own it.
Like that's, that's what I'm I'mdoing and yeah, that's so we've
changed a lot with themagazines. But that's Yeah,
that's the biggest thing I'vedone is is changed the game on
(28:06):
how females are viewed and, andused in our magazine. So and I
totally see that because Ifollowed the magazine before you
had it. And it's been sodifferent. And I've seen
comments about the change.
You've also received a lot ofhate. I have big time haters,
right now. I have I have haters.
(28:27):
Yeah, I followed you for a longtime. So that's why I've read
off. I have so many haters and iget i i can tell you I get a lot
of hate mail sent to me. I get alot of screenshots of talking
people talking hate about me online and on Facebook and things
like that.
(28:47):
You know, it is what it is.
I'm gonna keep doing my thingand I'm gonna keep creating and
I'm gonna keep inspiring womenand inspiring my industry as a
whole.
So, yeah, they can they can sitback and keep hating. So I'm,
I'm I'm blessed. That is onereason Well, not one reason but
(29:09):
yeah, one of the reasons Ireached out to you not the only
reason is because the way thatyou've changed the magazine like
I said, I've followed themagazine I've I've used it
you know I use it when Ipinstripe I've been practicing
or working I start shooting someof it I need See I need I need.
(29:30):
I when I host pinup contest, Iconstruct my own trophies I make
Oh wow, you just send me stuff.
I want to see it over. And but Ireached out to you because of
the change and shift that I'veseen on my end here in South
Florida. On your in themagazine, how we went from being
very male dominated, which isnot a problem, but it's the
(29:52):
objectifying of the women andthat the diversity of it. So I
really felt kind of awkwardholding this magazine when it
looked like it was prettydominantly for a man, it was,
and you even feature now likewomen artists, you've had
catfish. She's here in Floridatoo. And she's been on my
podcast as well. And it's just adifferent diversity that I
really loved. And that's, that'swhy I really wanted you to have
(30:14):
you here to talk about yourselfthis magazine, you know, your
stories as well. It's reallyinspiring, and I hope it hits
other people thinking to feelconfident and be able to do what
they want and not let you know.
Just their their sex get in theway, you know? Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Male or female? Yeah, no.
(30:37):
do read, do whatever you'rewanting to do in life. And you
should, you should go for it.
Don't let anyone stand in yourway or tell you that you're
stupid, or you can't do it.
Because you can do anythingyou're inspired to do you can,
you can do anything you want todo. I was bullied and laughed at
(31:00):
all through school, I actuallydropped out of school from being
bullied. And I was made fun ofand picked on. And I was told
that I was ugly. And that I wasnot I wasn't a model. And I
wasn't going to be a model. AndI wasn't going to be anything.
And yeah, here I am. And I'm amodel. I'm internationally
(31:22):
published. I own aninternational,
internationally publishedmagazines, and now publishing
women all over the world. Andwe're making, we're making art.
So yeah, and on my end, I neversaw a plus size. Like when I go
to these car shows, it's alwayslike, to put it like an
(31:44):
objectified woman with the shortshort, a certain look and body
type that fits. So I was toldthat can never be able to hold
on, I'll never be on the stage.
I'll never do the things thatI'm doing now. And and now I
feel good that you know, I bringa different crowd to these
events that I've never seenbefore because they're all
different sizes. Yeah, they I'vehad a transgender I've had, you
know, all types of women that itwould normally not be in that
(32:07):

very, I won't even saytraditional, because I don't
even know what to call it. Butyou know what, I mean? No, I
totally get what you're saying.

some pistons This is anotherventure that I'm doing as well.
(32:28):
I have so many little businessesgoing right now.
But it's a it's basicallya workshop for models and
photographers to come togetherand learn from each other. It's,
I really encourage the models towork with each other, uplift
each other, teach each othergrow from each other.
(32:50):
Really justlike I said, a workshop and
helping each other and inspiringeach other. I'm the
photographer's the same way andI do like a little cruise in so
I make it a little different.
And I have all these carsswarmin and vadar parking lot.
And all these beautiful ladieswe make over and we help make
over and I have wardrobe forthem to try and babes on boards,
(33:13):

of jewelry to use and feelbeautiful and then they go
outside and they shoot with allthese beautiful cars and there's
a crowd of people also thereshooting and and looking and
looking at other cars and havinga good time with music and and

fun because beautiful women areon their cars, and they're
getting their photos done.

it's super inspiring. And that'skind of like what what I'm what
(33:57):
I'm doing with the magazines,I'm kind of doing with a lot of
pretty much any business that Ihave is to lift women in some
way. In some way. It really, really is. So let me ask you a
few questions. Okay, that I got.

(34:18):

You'll only see you crying ifyou're watching on YouTube. And
if you're watching on YouTube, hit like and subscribe. That's a
little.
My little slide that in there.
Sorry, my ugly cry, guys.
But you know, ugly cries usuallymean that you're passionate
(34:38):
about something. I say that in anice way.
Because usually when I like cry,and it has to do about what I'm
talking about, it's because I'mpassionate about and super
passionate about what I do.
Yeah. So don't ever apologize.
No, thank you.
So I asked you about youroutfits. I like when I saw that
question. I was like I have toask it.

being a publisher is justI guess giving opportunities to

favorite thing is just, youknow, giving an opportunity to
people. Yeah, what hardshipshave you encountered working in
a print magazine? I don't get alot of respect. No, especially
(36:31):

hard. And when that happens, Iusually have to be an asshole or
bitch, I have to stand up formyself. And I have to address
it. And when I address it, theydon't like it.
They, you know, of courseproject that, you know, it's me
(37:37):

I'm happening to address it, andyou don't like it. So it's good
to have a supportive husband aswell, that he tells them go talk
to her instead of him having totalk to him. I mean, instead of
them, talking to him having todeal with the issue. It's really
good of him to be like, No, youneed to talk to my wife. Right?
