(01:48):
Pharmacy Fam.
It's so good to have you allback here for another thrilling
episode of Pivoting Pharmacywith Neutrogenomics.
I've been doing some earlymorning soul searching and a
certain memory came back to me.
We've all been there on thisroller coaster ride, right?
The unexpected twist, thetransformative turns.
Navigating these as far from acakewalk, reflecting on one

(02:12):
particular day, a coworker turnsto another and pops a
million-dollar question do youenjoy being a pharmacist?
The response Well, it pays thebills.
Just let that sink in.
It's as though the job was justthat a job run-of-the-mill,
passionless.
But why?
Where have the initial zest, the exhilarating rush, gone?

(02:36):
This conversation took me backto a phase in my life teetering
on the edge, ready to throw inmy pharmacy tile for good.
Just like them, I saw pharmacyas a mere paycheck.
I journeyed through the normsfeeling restrained, almost like
an assembly line robot.
I grappled with self-worth andquestioned the real impact I was
making.
Could I actually influencechange beyond the conventional

(03:00):
prescribing and verifying.
Now here's a real talk.
I'm sure you've experiencedsimilar moments in your own
careers.
It's human nature we probe thedepths of our worth and life's
purpose.
But let's flip the script.
Instead of letting thesechallenging moments prick our
self-esteem, let's use them as awake-up call to challenge our

(03:23):
comfort zones and traditionalbeliefs.
Once it clicked for me, thesheer potential of reaching
beyond the norm that's when themagic sparked.
I started hunting for answers, attending conferences,
connecting with forward-thinkingpeers, even sacrificing sleep
to Google in the wee hours ofthe night doing research.
That's when I decided to breakthe mold, take the road less

(03:46):
traveled and take the pivottowards neutrodynamics.
Now returning to my colleagueswhere did their pharmacy fire go
?
What extinguished the oncetireless passion and, most
importantly, why?
Well, we can start with theoverwhelming workloads we often

(04:09):
face long hours, high patientvolumes and demanding work
environments leading to burnoutand dissatisfaction.
Have you ever noticed howyou're to do less that the
pharmacy seems never ending like?
Seriously, why is it so long?
We face long hours, highpatient volumes and, on top of
that, work environments thatcould give a pressure cooker a
run for its money.

(04:30):
It doesn't sound like a recipefor joy, right?
Here's the thing.
Most of us signed up for thisprofession because we're
passionate about health andhelping others.
We certainly didn't sign up tofeel like we're running on this
never ending hamster wheel, butsadly, that's the reality for
many of us.
One study recently showed thatnearly half 50 percent of

(04:53):
pharmacists reportedexperiencing job stress and
burnout.
High five to that, huh.
So how do we end up here?
How did we end up here, myfriends?
It largely boils down to howtraditional pharmacy roles are
structured.
Our daily routine is oftenabout dispensing and meeting
sales targets and monitoringproductivity.

(05:14):
Who knew that's what pharmacywas about?
Right?
The intensity of the workloadand the stress that comes with
it that's the reality we've allbattled.
Here's the rub.
The high stress cycle leads todecreased job satisfaction and a
burnout rate faster than aFerrari at Full Throttle.
What's the ultimate price wepay?

(05:35):
It's not just about us.
It hampers our ability toeffectively help our patients.
That, my friend, stings evenmore when you got into this
profession to do exactly thatHelp your patients.
The second reason pharmacistsmay be pivoting out of pharmacy

(05:57):
is that many are realizing thattheir traditional role doesn't
fully align with their desire totruly make a difference in
their patients' lives.
I totally get it.
I've been there myself, feelingunfulfilled, even stuck,
realizing that I wanted tocreate a more profound impact on
the lives of patients I serve.

(06:18):
This feeling arises from thefocus on treating symptoms
rather than addressing the rootcause of a patient's health
issues.
Traditional pharmacy oftenrelies on disproportionate
levels of symptom managementrather than identifying and
targeting the underlying factors.
By not addressing the truecauses of patients' health

(06:39):
problems, our profession willcontinue reacting to symptoms
rather than preventing illnessand promoting wellness.
Patients might become overlyreliant on medications, miss out
on opportunities for improvedhealth and face potential
negative side effects.
Then we have a desire for a moreholistic approach.

(07:01):
Pharmacists want to have a moreholistic approach.
When we don't address the truecause of health problems, we're
shunning this holistic approachto healthcare.
Dispensing medications andmanaging symptoms we've done it
all a thousand times, but here'swhere that itch resurfaces,
urging us to think beyondprescriptions.

(07:23):
We are starting to acknowledgethe invaluable power of a
holistic approach by embracingthe full spectrum of health
factors such as genetics, lifestyle choices, nutrition and
mental well-being.
For me, this transformation hasbeen like a breath of fresh air
.
Many of us recognize theimportance of addressing the

(07:45):
whole person rather than justtreating symptoms with
medications.
We're learning to see that eachpatient is a unique, complex
individual, and we want toaddress every single aspect of
their well-being, ensuring thepatients receive the best
possible care for sustainablehealth improvements.
Failure to embrace a moreholistic approach to health can

(08:08):
result in patients not receivingcomprehensive care that
supports lasting healthimprovements, and this can lead
to continued reliance onmedications and possible
dissatisfaction with theirhealth care experience.
So what can we do to reigniteour passion for pharmacy?
You can create and offerpatient-centered services like

(08:32):
nature genomics in your pharmacypractice, which enables you to
dictate your workload, take aholistic approach and truly
start helping your patients.
Creating patient-centeredservices in your practice
provides an effective solutionto the problems that we see with
traditional pharmacy, problemslike inadequate patient impact.

(08:54):
When you incorporatenutritionomics into a pharmacy
practice, it goes far beyondtypical medications.
It enables us to dig deeper andaddress the root cause of
patients' health issues, considering their genetics and
the interaction between genesand nutrition.
This shift in perspective fromtreatment to prevention
fundamentally changes the way wecan help patients.

(09:16):
Beyond symptom management, wecan now empower our patients to
make informed dietary andlifestyle modifications to
improve their overall health andpotentially prevent onset of
certain diseases.
With traditional pharmacy, wedo see overwhelming workloads,
but when you developpatient-centered services, you

(09:36):
can gain control over yourworkload.
Specializing in a distinctservice, such as nutritionomics,
may allow for improved timemanagement, with dedicated time
slots for patient consultationsand a potentially more
predictable workflow.
You can then focus more onquality care than quantity, thus

(09:56):
reducing the risk of burnoutand dissatisfaction, thereby
enhancing both job satisfactionand the standard of patient care
.
Standard traditional pharmacydoesn't scratch that desire for
a more holistic approach.
Nutrigenomics offers a moreholistic approach to health care
.
By recognizing the immense rolegenetics and nutrition play in

(10:18):
health outcomes, it enablespharmacists to offer
comprehensive care thatencompasses diet, lifestyle and
environmentally induced geneticchanges.
This personalized care can leadto improved outcomes, increased
patient satisfaction andenhanced professional
fulfillment, shifting the focusto overall well-being rather
than just treating diseasesymptoms.

(10:40):
But you know what?
Even the most dedicated amongus start feeling a little
underwhelmed with the good oldmedication dispense and roll, no
matter how many years we'vebeen at it.
But here's my two cents.
We don't have to wave goodbyeto our cherished profession,
heck.
No, what we can do instead ispivot into it like diving

(11:01):
headfirst into a treasure chestof innovative gems that can
rekindle our fiery passion.
Let's be bold, explore thesegems, elevate our practices and
level up the impact we can makeon our patients lives.
Guess what?
That's exactly what I did, andhere I stand today, a health
