Despite the January snow throwing a wrench in our Chattanooga plans, the excitement is palpable as we hope to have PMM presence at the  Columbus' model show.

Mike and Dave gear up for "Shop Talk" for episode 134,  tackling a couple of modeling related topics, as well as a journal topic from Steve Anderson's "A Guided Journal for Modelers".   Meanwhile for episode 135, Mark Copeland from the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force joins us to bridge the fascinating worlds of modeling and military history.  We look forward to unpacking these thrilling developments and enriching our community with the exclusive conversations ahead.

We're not just about revisiting old ground; we're pushing boundaries to offer fresh perspectives and uncover new directions. These episodes promises an engaging journey through the ever-evolving landscape of scale modeling, tailored just for you.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Well, Dave, it's February and it's time for a
12-minute model sphere or someother duration of time that
starts with a T Can you believethat January has already flown
by.
No, but I'm glad it has.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Well, yeah, I can understand that, but still,
honest to gosh, I blinked myeyes and January is just a blur
to me.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Well, I think it was that lingering snowfall.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
I do think a lot of it had to do with that.
It made you compress time.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
It sure seemed like it.
It did Well, even though thefirst month of the year has
gotten off to a supersonic start.
As far as shows goes.
We're kind of behind the time alittle bit.
We've not been anywhere becausewe've not had anywhere to go.
We talked about going toChattanooga, but they ended up
canceling and rescheduling theirshow because of the weather.

(01:09):
It was kind of attached to theweather.
We got, yeah, and the next oneup close for us is Columbus, yep
, and I'm not going to be ableto make that one my friend, but
you may carry the flag toColumbus.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I am going to make every effort to represent PMM at
the Columbus show.
I may get Substitute Mike akaSkippy to go along with me and
go up there and at least give agood show report for the dojo
and meet up with Inch High andmany of the other listeners, and

(01:46):
I'm going to make every effort.
We'll see what happens, butright now I'm planning on it.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Well, I'm going to miss inch and gosh.
You asked who else would bethere.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Oh gosh, any number of people.
It depends, it's, it's Ben.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Ben.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Pluth would be there, ben will be there, barry
numeric usually shows up.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Ah man, now I'm wanting to go more than I did
before.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Well, family obligations come first.
We all understand that.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Well folks, if Dave makes it to Columbus, stop by
his table and say hi, yes, please.

(02:44):
Well, dave.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
February is a short month, yes, but we're going to
get in the required two episodes.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yes, we're going to get into, along with this TMM,
and probably a model showspotlight as well for shows
coming up in March.
But we do have two episodes.
The first one is episode 134,and this was the Shop Talk
promise for last month.
But I guess these TMMs havebecome kind of guidelines for

(03:12):
what we might do.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yes, yeah, always subject to change, always
subject to change.
It's the lawyer language.
Always notes.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yes, it's like a concert poster exactly dates
subject to change, but in theshop talk room, of course we're
going to tackle some modelingtopics, but we also, as promised
, we're going to pick up one ofthe journaling prompts from
steve anderson's scale modelingjournal that we talked about a

(03:43):
couple episodes ago.
Yeah, which has gotten somegood, gotten some good traffic
on the Dojo and direct messageand emails.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yes, it has, and, as a matter of fact, I've started
jotting some stuff down in it,so I'll be anxious to talk.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Well, I'll disclose the one we're going to take on
in the shop talk and in theoutline for that episode.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
All right.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Maybe I'll give you a little better warning than that
.
There you go.
Well, you know that episode waskind of different.
It was nice to see that therewere some folks out there who
appreciated that line ofactivity.
I guess Modeling adjacent,modeling adjacent activity I
thought it was a great thing andanyway we're glad folks are
getting some inspiration fromthat.

(04:28):
I know some folks have orderedthe journals and sent us
pictures of them after they'vereceived them and Steve sent us
a nice email and thanked us forhaving him on and it's just
going to be a fun thing totackle those during these shop
talks.
Dave.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yep, looking forward to it.
So what's 135?

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Well, let me back up Steve Anderson's episode, which
I think was 132, was a littleunusual and interesting for our
listeners.
Well, we've got another onecoming up, Dave, For episode 135
, we have Mr Mark Copeland asour guest and Mark is part of
the travel entourage from thegreater Minneapolis area with

(05:07):
Steve Hustad.
In fact he's the one thatprompted us to have Steve on for
the first time.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yes, yes, I am forever in his debt.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Well, since then and since us getting acquainted with
Mark and Steve, mark has takenon a new job over the last year
or so I think, maybe two, yeah, year and a half, something like
that.
Mark's the director ofeducational travel for the
National Museum of the MightyEighth Air Force out of Savannah
, georgia.
Now Mark's in Minnesota.
The museum is in Savannah andI've been to it.

(05:36):
It's a fabulous thing to go seeif you're in the Savannah area.
But Mark's going to come on theshow and he's a modeler as well
, make no mistake about that.
We'll talk a little bit abouthis modeling and talk a little
about this really interestingand seemingly wonderful new
career track he's on.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
We've spent time with him at different shows and all,
and he has some absolutefantastic stories from just
conducting tours, getting tomeet veterans yeah, places he's
been, Places he's been and soit'll be nice to talk with him
and get not only a picture ofwhat he does and how that's

(06:16):
related to modeling for him, butalso to get the wider picture
of supporting the museum goingon these tours.
I'm really looking forward toit.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Well, I know he's excited too, so we're going to
have a lot of fun having Mark onfinally.
Yes, well, dave, the dojo hasgotten a little bit electric
over the last couple of weeks.
The new member requests haveticked up.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Which I really like that, but what else has been
going on?

Speaker 1 (06:47):
have ticked up, yes, which I really like that.
But what else has been going on?
Well, members have apparentlybeen listening to the podcast
and actually responding.
The two things I want to pointout this month on the 12-Minute
Model Sphere for the dojo are myrequest for book reviews has
been heard.

(07:08):
Warren Dickinson recentlyposted one Inch High is going to
post one.
I've got one to post.
This is a great way.
Not all our time is actualmodeling time.
Some of it is modeling adjacent.
Many of us are historians orhistory motivated in our

(07:30):
modeling, and books are a greatpart of that.
And it's another resource wherein our community we can let
people know hey, I read this,it's a good book.
Hey, I read this, I don't thinkit's worth the money.
Hey, don't spend your you knowwhatever.

(07:53):
And because of the fact thatwe're not a money-making
business, unlike many magazineswho you never see a bad review
in them, we don't have thatproblem.
We want people to be polite, but we want them to voice their
actual opinion on what they'veread and what they think about

(08:18):
it, and so Warren and Inch havedone so.
Others of you out there, ifyou've recently finished a book,
please post the other thingthat's shown up a lot in the
dojo with the kickoff of modelcontest season have been reports
from model contests.

(08:40):
Special Agent 003 posted awinter blitz report which I got
a DM from him.
He apologized that it was alittle bit late but he had a
modeling-related accident tosome of his models and that kind
of put a damper on thepost-show enthusiasm.

(09:00):
But there's a report photos onWinter Blitz.
In addition, steve Hustad wentto the show in Rochester,
minnesota, the Hope it Don'tSnow show, and apparently it
didn't, because they had a greatturnout.
They had something like 547models on the table and that is

(09:25):
amazing for a show in earlyFebruary.
That's a lot that far north.
That's just amazing to me thatthey pulled that off and
apparently it didn't snow, atleast not on the day of the show
.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
There was probably snow on the ground.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Yeah, there's always snow on the ground in winter in
Minnesota.
So he posted.
In fact, he took so manypictures he had to break the
post up into three separateposts.
Again, if you all attend shows, particularly shows that Mike
and I can't get to, we wouldappreciate you posting photos

(10:02):
and a brief report in the dojoto let the community know where,
what's out there, what you'reseeing on the tables, how the
show was.
A show report.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
We appreciate it, we do, and if it's a show we're at,
you can act on our behalf, because I'm not one of those
guys that goes around takes alot of pictures of the models.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
I try and post on shows we go to.
I try and post for a board.
I'm not always successful.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I'm not one of those guys that comes back from a show
with just about a picture ofevery entry there was.
Yeah, I appreciate the folkswho do, but that's typically not
my thing.
Yeah, so thank you to everyonewho does that.
Absolutely so, thank you toeveryone who does that?
Absolutely Well, dave, I'm goingto deviate here from our

(10:51):
outline and normal format andmake one call to action, because
I know I've seen Ed Barrett'sname pop up from either from Ed
himself or someone who he'sinteracted with in the last 24,
48 hours or so, and I know Ed'sgoing to be our third chair for
the next installment of theWheel of Accidental Wisdom and I

(11:11):
want folks who have a questionthat like to see us tackle on
the wheel to go ahead and startsubmitting those via email.
Yes, please Via email, even ifyou already have Now some folks
have sent in seven or eight atonce.
Please re-curate those.
If we've addressed it eitherdirectly or kind of adjacently,

(11:33):
either take those out or thinkup something new.
We have to re-curate the listand I've got a bunch of email to
go through, but I want to makesure we have enough to make a
good episode, and I think we do,but a bunch more would not hurt
things.
Well, that's the one thing.
I want to deviate and get outthere, dave.
So let's get on with ourFebruary.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Let's go ahead and get to modeling Bye.
