In this episode of the Playful Connection Podcast, Eddie Shin will share four simple and practical ways to avoid shame talk in your interactions with the children and teens in your life, as well as some examples of each tip.
1. Avoid Comparisons
2. Model Self-Compassion
3. Reframe Negative Thoughts Together
4. Establish a Safe Space for Mistakes
Removing shame talk is like lifting a weight off a young tree to let it grow freely and reach its full potential. Just as the tree stands taller when it’s not burdened by unnecessary weight, children and teens flourish when they’re not weighed down by feelings of inadequacy or fear of judgment. Without shame talk, they’re free to explore, make mistakes, and learn without fear, stretching toward the light of self-acceptance. This environment of encouragement strengthens their roots of confidence and self-worth, nurturing a relationship that’s grounded in trust and respect, helping them stand strong through life’s challenges.
