In this episode of the Playful Connection Podcast, Eddie Shin will share four practical ways to help your child or teen develop a stronger emotional vocabulary.

1. Model Emotional Language in Daily Life
2. Practice Naming Emotions in the Moment (with Co-Regulation)
3. Use “Emotion Check-ins” as a Daily Ritual
4. Pair Books and Media with Emotion Reflection

Helping your child or teen develop emotional vocabulary is like giving them a fuller paint palette. Without the right words, they’re left painting their experiences with only black, white, and gray. But with every new emotion word they learn—like “disappointed,” “nervous,” “hopeful,” or “guilty”—they gain a new color to express their inner world. And when you sit beside them with your own palette, mixing and naming colors together, you create a masterpiece of connection and understanding that makes your relationship richer and more resilient.
