make sense.
Yes, the virgin will be withchild and she'll give birth to a
son, and she will call his nameEmmanuel, which means God.
With us, from out of Bethlehem, will come the one who will be
ruler of God's people, whoseorigins are from ancient times,
from eternity.
And for unto us a child is born, for unto us a son is given,
(00:36):
and the government will be onhis shoulders, and he will be
called Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father
and the Word of God.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Thank you for joining

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Amen, amen, amen, to
the 100th 1-0-0 episode of Plays
on Word Radio man.
Many of you have been on thisjourney with us.
Yes, as we embark on excursionsthrough the scripture and
(02:06):
accompanied by my own madness, and add ocd or whatever you want
to call it.
My brother calls it ted, butthat's a syndrome by itself.
Welcome very much to you.
And, uh, I want to say, youknow, merry christmas.
To you guys, I want to say, um,happy, know, merry Christmas.
To you guys, I want to sayHappy Jesus's birthday.
(02:27):
How about that, technically, those of you that are pulling
your chins right now saying, wait a second, that's not
Jesus's birthday.
You're right, you're right.
We don't know the actual birthof Jesus.
The time, and it most likelywas not December 25th.
(02:54):
I don't want to bust anybody'sbubble right now.
Yeah, I know this one pastor.
He came out and was he?
Just?
I gotta love this guy?
He came out to his congregationand he was like I just want
(03:20):
y'all to know, santa Claus ain'treal.
A bunch of the parents were allupset with him.
Think about this.
They're upset with him fortelling the truth.
Oh, they were sizzled.
They were all upset because thekids were like what, mommy?
Anyway, hey, yeah, you knowMuch could be said about that,
(03:51):
but you got to love them.
So I'm telling you guys thetruth.
I hate to bust anybody's bubble, but Jesus's birthday most
likely was not December 25th.
But guess what?
What we do celebrate, what theworld celebrates on December
25th, is not a pagan holiday.
Although many unbelieverspartake in Christmas, you know,
(04:16):
they take the time off from workand all that stuff like that.
Um, but the, the Christians, commandeered this date which, uh
, was marked as a pagan holidaybefore Christ, celebrating the
end of the darkness and thebeginning of the light starting
(04:37):
to come back to the world.
And for, you know they're, theywere agrarian, so it was all
about harvest and crops and allthat stuff.
So, everybody, they threw a bigparty.
Anyway, without going into awhole bunch of detail on that,
the Christians commandeered itand today we don't really we
don't celebrate that.
The majority of the worlddoesn't celebrate that pagan
(04:59):
stuff.
What the majority of the worldis celebrating is Christmas, the
event where, as Christians, wecelebrate the birth of the one
that the entire Scripture, fromGenesis to Revelation, points to
(05:19):
.
The entire Scripture, man, fromA to to z, is about christ.
He told the teachers of the lawthat had their phds.
He said you diligently, diligently, search the
scriptures because in them youthink you, you have eternal life
.
You don't realize they'retalking about me from the
(05:41):
beginning to the end.
The, the word points to this onewho is coming, who's coming in
one way or another, and whathe's going to do, what he'll be
like.
And it points to it and sayshe's coming, he's going to be
from the tribe of Judah and he'sgoing to be born in Bethlehem
(06:01):
and you know all these differentthings.
He's going to be from eternity.
He's going to be called themighty God.
He will be the, the father ofeverlasting life.
That's what that means in thatIsaiah passage where it says uh,
he will be called the um, uh,everlasting father.
It's not that he is the fatherthat he prayed to.
(06:24):
As Trinitarians we don'tsubscribe to that.
No, but what he is is thefather of everlasting.
Very much like Henry, you couldmake the argument.
You know, henry Ford is thefather of the automobile, or the
Wright brothers are the fathersof flight.
(06:47):
Christ is the father ofeverlasting and we celebrate
what the scriptures pointed to,spoke of, and this is what we
celebrate at this time of year, since we don't know the exact
(07:08):
date, okay, and the exact dateis not nearly as important as
the fact that he came.
And so we're just participatingthe way the angels were and the
way all the miracle births inthe scripture, the way all the
miracle births in the scripture, the way they were celebrated,
(07:32):
starting, if you get into theHebrew, if you look at Eve, when
Cain was born, she was like Godhas given me a man.
And in the previous chapter, that's chapter 4, but in Genesis
3, god promised that the seedof the woman was going to come.
Basically, deal with this.
(07:52):
The first promise of a gospel, the first gospel promise we get
is Genesis 3.15.
And the entire Bible opens upfrom that point on.
It actually opens up fromGenesis 1.1, but it takes a
sharp incline upwards fromGenesis 3.15 about this one
that's coming.
And then Eve's like the Lord.
She said I have acquired a manfrom the Lord and there's hope
(08:18):
in that.
There's hope in that.
Could this be, could this bethe one?
Think about that.
Eve is hoping for Messiah rightthere.
And then it moves down the lineand we find out that through
Abraham and you go past theflood, the whole thing, and then
, through Abraham, isaac, jacob,man.
(08:42):
I could say so much on this andI'm tempted to just ADD
completely.
It goes down to Abraham, thenIsaac and Jacob, and then from
Jacob to Judah, and then downthrough Judah to David and all
the way down through the kingsDavid down to Christ, who sits
on David's throne.
(09:02):
Son of David is a messianicterm, a term for the Messiah,
and the Bible is.
You know, there are miraclebirths that happen.
Isaac was not supposed to be.
He wasn't supposed to be.
It was an impossible birth.
Abraham's 100 years old.
His wife is 90, post-metapause,yet she got pregnant and bore a
(09:31):
son.
The miracle son, the miraclebirth, the, the birth of Obed,
was.
I wouldn't call it a miracle inthe sense of from age, but it
was a miracle from the fact thateverything looked like it was
lost.
Everything looked just, therewas no hope.
And yet, all of a sudden, because of the man of God and
(09:54):
because of God in the backgroundworking, everything was
restored.
All that was lost was restored.
We're going to touch on that.
You're going to see.
That was lost was restored.
We're going to touch on that.
You're going to see that in alittle bit.
We have a special program foryou today.
I'm not going to preach thewhole time, you know I'm
(10:16):
long-winded, but we have a veryspecial program for you today,
and we were Well.
Before I even get on to what wewere doing, I want to continue
with the thought of just theblessedness of what we remember
at this time of year.
I have some dear brothers thatdon't want to celebrate it
(10:41):
because they believe they'reparticipating in paganism.
And okay, you know, I love youand all that.
I don't agree with thatperspective.
If you're celebrating the birthof Christ, and then you know,
then we have some dear brothersthat don't even understand the
idea of what, how significantthis is.
(11:02):
Our redemption came into theworld.
What, how significant this is.
Our redemption came into theworld.
Our way out was our way out ofthe mess we were in, our
condemnation that we were in,came into the world.
God so loved us, he so lovedthe world that he sent his one
(11:23):
and only son, and in fact heloved us when we weren't even on
his team.
We were against him, and thisis how he demonstrated his love
for us that Christ died for usand this baby was born.
And this is what we celebrateat this time of year.
At least this is what we shouldcelebrate at this time of year.
If you're celebrating, gettingholiday deals and jingle bells
and Santa and that's a whole, not other thing you know, st
(11:48):
Nick, it's a raw deal.
I mean, you talk about aChristian man.
A Christian man and what timeand the culture have done to him
.
Now he's riding a sleigh,sipping on Coca-Cola, with a
red-nosed reindeer going throughthe clouds and all that stuff.
And it really is a shamebecause those of us that are in
(12:12):
the family of God in Christ,we're going to meet this guy.
He was a staunch defender ofthe Trinity.
I mean, this guy let me notpreach on this I don't want to
take.
Yeah, don't believe the KrisKringle hype.
Saint Nicholas and I have adear cousin and some dear
brothers that are named Nicholas.
(12:34):
Yeah, anyway, that's enoughsaid on.
I'm long-winded.
Hey, it's the 100th episode.
Can you cut me some slack?
Can I get some slack today?
Okay, can I get an amen?
It's the 100th episode.
Praise God and thanks to allthe Plays On Word supporters
(12:55):
that have contributed and prayedfor us and financially
contributed to this.
We have been streamed in over50, 55 or 57 countries One of
those, that's the number and wehave been streamed and heard all
around the globe and, yeah, wewere even heard in Russia.
(13:18):
How do you like that?
So, thank you to all of youpeople who pray and support and
are just part of what we aredoing here.
And, uh, that brings me to mynext segment here, next section
which I want to talk about wecompleted up our northeast tour.
We have two more christmas joeperformances left in this year.
(13:42):
One is at my home church, calvary Southport in North
Carolina, and the other one willbe at Calvary Chapel in Clayton
, north Carolina, and we arelooking forward to both of them.
And so that's coming up.
Please keep them in prayer, keep both of those in prayer.
(14:07):
And we had a great time.
We did a Northeast tour.
We did Maryland, right outsideDC, and it went up to New Jersey
, south Jersey and then CentralJersey.
A bunch of performances thereand what I wanted to share with
you guys today, since it'scoming up on Christmas, or it is
(14:29):
Christmas time, every day foryou Christians needs to be
Christmas, like for real, forreal, every day needs to be
Christmas.
We recognize that God sent HisSon.
You know he sent his son and weshould be grateful.
There should be joy.
(14:49):
The heavens opened up and theyproclaimed it.
Man, it was a blowout party man.
They were like glory to God inthe highest, and these shepherds
that were on the field werelike yo man.
Look at this.
Glory to God in the highest andpeace on earth and goodwill to
(15:14):
men and for those of you whowant me to be politically
correct, men and women, people, mankind, and so yeah, celebrate
that the joy of the Lord and thejoy and the good news that he
came, and he did come to die andtake the sin of the world, take
(15:35):
your sin and my sin with you.
As far as for the East, is fromthe West.
He has ripped it from us,removed it, washed us clean,
made us right in God's eyes andthen, on the third day, he was
raised to life again, as a stampof approval that the sacrifice
(15:56):
that he gave was accepted andacceptable.
So what I want to do for youguys, since I've talked up a
storm, I mean, cut me some slack.
I am a preacher and I want topresent to you one of the
performances that we did.
(16:16):
We have audio from it and Ijust want you to sit back, grab
some eggnog or some cocoa, orsome Coco Loco, which is coffee
if you're Puerto Rican, and someof you will get that, and so
just sit back and enjoy this andbe blessed by this presentation
of Christmas.
(16:36):
Joe, they're finally asleep.
Okay, let me make sure Iunderstand the story that all
you shepherds came out and toldus tonight.
You said that you were out andyou were shepherding the flocks,
and you said that an angel ofthe Lord appeared before you.
(16:59):
Right, is that right?
Is that correct?
And the glory of the Lord shonearound you and you were afraid.
One of you told us that youwere really afraid.
Right, that's amazing.
And wait, you said that theangel said don't be afraid, for
(17:20):
I bring you good news for allthe people, for unto you is born
this day, in the city of David,a Savior who is Christ, the
Lord, and this will be the signto you you will find a baby
lying in a manger and wrapped inswaddling cloths.
(17:42):
Right, that's correct.
Right, I got that part of thestory right?
Oh, but wait.
And then you said if I get thestory wrong, make sure you tell
me that the heavens opened upand you saw multitudes and
multitudes of the heavenly hosts, and they were all proclaiming
(18:07):
glory to God in the highest andpeace earth and goodwill to men.
Right, I got that right.
That was basically the gist ofwhat you told us.
This is incredible.
This is absolutely amazing.
(18:27):
You know what?
If you were to have told menine months ago that I would be
here right now in Bethlehem withMary and a baby, I wouldn't
believe you.
I wouldn't believe you.
She tried to tell me, though, nine months ago.
She tried to tell me that shewas pregnant.
(18:49):
I didn't have nothing to dowith that.
Put yourself in my sandals forone moment.
The one that's promised to you,the one that you are betrothed
to I mean a betrothal isbasically.
(19:10):
The only thing left is aceremony.
You're basically married, andshe comes and tells you that
she's pregnant.
You had nothing to do with it.
But wait, there's more.
She tried to say it was by theHoly Spirit.
I was like what?
What?
(19:31):
I had all these emotions goingon.
I was angry.
How can this be?
How can this be?
I was hurt.
How can this be?
(19:53):
I was afraid, because if thepeople found out that she was
pregnant outside of marriage, according to the law of Moses,
they're supposed to stone her.
(20:15):
I remember thinking to myselfwhen she told me this news.
I remember thinking to myselfGod must be punishing me for
something I did.
That's why this shame has comeupon me.
Now I am a builder, a carpenter, by trade, in fact, I make the
(20:41):
yokes for the oxen and ifsomething is broken, I'm the one
that usually fixes it.
The entire village, everyoneknows you go to Joseph and we
take care of it.
Now, when she told me this news, I remember thinking to myself
(21:01):
how do I fix this?
There's got to be a way.
There's got to be a way.
I got it.
I got it.
I got it.
I'll divorce her quietly.
(21:22):
No one will ask any questions.
No, I mean, I love Mary.
I don't want any harm to cometo her.
That's the fix, it's in the lawof Moses.
God is so good.
Oh, that's the fix.
I'll divorce her quietly.
So now, that angel that youshepherds told us about tonight,
that you came and told us, theangel that you saw out in the
(21:44):
field, I think I know the exactangel you're talking about,
because when I decided todivorce Mary quietly, because I
love Mary, I don't want any harmto come to her, and if I
divorce her quietly, that's theMary.
I don't want any harm to cometo her, and if I divorce her
quietly, that's the fix.
When I made up my mind and Iwent to sleep that night, that
angel that you saw flew to me inmy dream, and when I saw him, I
(22:08):
was like what?
And the angel said to me Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid
to take Mary as your wife, forwhat is conceived in her is of
(22:31):
the Holy Spirit.
She will give birth to a sonand you are to give him the name
Jesus, for it is he that willsave his people from their sins.
Man, when I woke up from thatdream, I was like what she's
(22:59):
telling the truth, it is of theHoly Spirit, whoa, and from that
point on, god, he is so good hestarted to bring to my
remembrance all these scripturesthat I heard when I was a
little boy the rabbis insynagogue.
They'd be going back and forthand back and forth talking about
(23:19):
the scriptures when I was aboutthis tall and all of a sudden I
remembered one of the passages.
This one was from ProphetIsaiah and he prophesied about
700 years ago from where we areright now.
And Prophet Isaiah, hisprophecy.
It says the virgin, the virgin, will be with child and she'll
(23:48):
give birth to a son and she'llcall his name Emmanuel.
Emmanuel, that means God withus, oh, wow.
So from that point on, when Marystarted to show a little bit,
she went to go stay with herrelative Elizabeth in Judea.
(24:12):
And Elizabeth was pregnant too.
Yeah, yeah.
And Elizabeth is old.
Oh, you don't seem tounderstand.
Elizabeth is really old.
Oh, no, you still don't seem tounderstand what I'm talking
about.
Elizabeth is too old.
And when Mary came to the houseand knocked on the door, the
(24:36):
baby in Elizabeth's womb leaptwith joy because he knew who
Mary was carrying and she wasfilled with the Holy Spirit and
she brought Mary in and she saidwhy does the mother of my Lord
come to me?
And Mary came in and sang amagnificent song, and she
(25:03):
blessed the God of heaven.
She said my soul magnifies theLord, my spirit rejoices in God,
my Savior.
He's been mindful of hisservant's humble estate and from
now on women will call meblessed.
Now, mary stayed with her for alittle while, elizabeth and her
husband.
(25:23):
They couldn't have children, and when the announcement came
to Zacharias, elizabeth'shusband, he was working in the
temple.
He's one of the priests and hewent in to take care of the
incense in the temple.
And all of a sudden, at theright side of the altar I think
it was that same angel you sawand he saw that angel and he was
(25:46):
like.
And the angel said to himZacharias, your prayers have
been heard.
Your wife Elizabeth will givebirth to a son and you shall
call him John, and he will begreat among his people.
And so Zacharias didn't reallybelieve the angel, though.
(26:07):
He said well, how can this be?
I'm old, really old.
And the angel said I stand inthe presence of God and you're
going to be mute until all thiscomes to pass.
Now, mary, she came back becausewe had to go down to here,
bethlehem, you know, bethmeaning house of Lechem, meaning
(26:32):
bread.
Bethlehem, the house of bread.
We had to come down herebecause this is where the city
of David is, this is where theclan, the family of David is
from, here in Bethlehem.
And we had to come down herebecause the well, you guys might
not know, you shepherds mightnot know, yeah, caesar declared
(26:53):
that the whole Roman world, there had to be a census in the
whole Roman world.
So you had to go to your townof origin, where your clan,
where your family is from, toregister for the census.
And so that's why we came down, because we're from the tribe of
Judah, from the family of David, yeah, and that's Bethlehem
(27:13):
here.
But you shepherds, youshepherds, don't get Wi-Fi out
in the fields, that's right.
You might not know.
Yeah, there's a census going on.
So, anyway, we're on our waydown here and you know a lot of
great things happened here inBeth Lachem, abraham and Isaac
and Jacob, the patriarchs camethrough here.
(27:34):
And, of course, who couldforget the great love story of
the scriptures that happenedhere?
Some of you shepherds arelooking at me like you don't
know the great love story thathappened right here in Bethlehem
.
How can you not know?
You shepherded the flocks inthe fields that were owned by
(27:54):
the man of God.
Well, let me tell you over 900years, maybe a thousand years
from where we are right now, right here in Bethlehem, there
was a man.
His name was Elimelech and hehad a wife and two sons, and
there was a famine that hit thisarea.
There was no bread in the houseof bread.
(28:16):
So Elimelech got up with hiswife and his two sons and they
moved to the land of Moab.
Well, after some time, elimelech died and his wife's
name was Naomi.
And, okay, her husband died, but she still has her two sons,
(28:38):
and her two sons married localwomen.
One's name was Orpah, theother's name was Ruth, and after
some time went by, both Malonand Killian that was Naomi's
(29:00):
sons they died.
Oh no, naomi has nothing.
She has no husband, she's in aforeign land, she has no sons,
she has no hope.
The only thing she has are twoMoabite women that married her
sons.
And then Naomi heard through thegrapevine that God had visited
his people right here in thehouse of bread in Bethlehem.
(29:22):
So she decided to come backhere to Bethlehem and as she did
, orpah and Ruth followed alongand Naomi said no, no, no, don't
come with me If I had a sonright now.
If I had two sons, would youwait for them to grow up?
(29:44):
No, god has made my life verybitter.
The hand of the Almighty isagainst me.
No, go back to your families,go back, don't come with me, go
back to your families.
And so Orpah went back, butRuth clung to her and Ruth said
(30:08):
no, where you go, I will go, andwhere you stay, I will stay.
Your people will be my peopleand your God will be my God.
And where you die, there I willbe buried.
(30:31):
And God, deal with me, be itever so severely if anything but
death separates you from me.
And Naomi walked right up toher, got right in her face Okay,
come on.
(30:51):
And so they started making theirway.
And when they got to theoutskirts of the town, the
entire town, everyone wasstirred.
The entire town was all lookingand they were all saying is
this Naomi?
Can this be Naomi?
Is that Naomi?
And Naomi, which means pleasant, naomi said don't call me that,
don't call me Naomi, call meMara, which means bitter,
(31:13):
because the Almighty, his hand,is going out against me.
I left here full and I've comeback empty.
Don't call me Naomi, no.
So they just happened to arriveback here in Bethlehem the house
of bread at the time of thebarley harvest.
They just happened to arriveback here at that time.
(31:34):
Ruth went to her mother-in-lawand said can I go glean in the
fields?
Can I go behind the harvesters?
And Naomi told her go.
And Ruth just so happened tofind herself in a field that was
owned by a godly man of Godnamed Boaz.
(31:57):
And so she gleaned behind theharvesters.
And when Boaz showed up to hislot with all the employees
working, he said the Lord bewith you.
And all of his employees saidthe Lord bless you.
Can you imagine going to workand getting that kind of
greeting?
I'm telling you he doesn't haveto worry about anybody going
(32:19):
down to HR.
I'm telling you he doesn't haveto worry about anybody going
down to HR.
And then Boaz looked and hecalled his employee over.
He said whoa, whose young womanis that?
And the servant said that'sRuth the Moabite.
She came back from the land ofMoab with Naomi and she's worked
all day long In the heat of theday.
(32:41):
And she's worked all day longin the heat of the day and she's
worked all day long.
And Boaz said to his employeesdon't anyone bother her.
In fact, I want you to pull outextra for her.
Make sure and let her work withmy girls, don't anyone harass
her.
And so Boaz put out that commandfor her to be protected.
(33:02):
See, in the law of Moses, godalways provided for those that
had no hope and no income.
No way.
He put in the law that theharvesters are not to take all
of the crop of the field.
They are to leave the corners, the edges, and leave some in the
middle so that the poor and thedestitute may partake in the
(33:26):
harvest of God.
God is always thinking of thosethat need his help.
And so Boaz went over and that'swhat Ruth did.
She gleaned.
She gleaned behind theharvesters and picked up the
scraps they left.
And Boaz went over and said mydear, I've heard all the good
that you've done since you'vecome back from Moab Work in my
(33:52):
field here.
I've instructed my workers notto bother you, not to harass you
.
If you need any water, you justgo get some water.
Work with my servant girls here.
And Ruth was so happy she saidI found favor in your eyes, okay
.
So she gleaned and gleaned andgleaned.
When she went back home to hermother-in-law, naomi.
(34:14):
When Naomi opened the door andlooked at how much grain Ruth
had, she said hey, where did youclean today?
And Ruth said I cleaned in thefield of a kind man.
His name is Boaz.
As soon as she said that Godhas not stopped showing kindness
(34:46):
to the living and the dead.
He is a close relative, he's akinsman redeemer.
So Ruth continued, continued togo and harvest behind the
harvesters and work in thefields of this man of God, boaz.
(35:08):
And Boaz really took a likingto her and Naomi told Ruth this
is what I want you to do at thetime At the threshing floor go
down and lay down, uncover theman's feet after he's had some
wine and food, and he'll tellyou what to do.
So Boaz was completely merryand full and happy and he went
(35:32):
down to the threshing floor andhe laid down and as he was
laying down sleeping, he woke upto a woman at his feet and she
said spread your garment over mebecause you are a kinsman
(35:53):
redeemer.
She was requesting to beredeemed and Boaz knew exactly
what she was saying and he saidmy dear, this kindness is
greater than the kindness youshowed at first.
I will do all that you ask.
You haven't run after theyounger men, I will do all that
(36:14):
you ask here.
And he measured out sixmeasures of barley for her not
to go home empty-handed.
When she got back home to Naomi, naomi answered the door and
basically said who are you?
She knew that it was Ruth, butwho are you?
(36:36):
And Ruth showed her the sixmeasures of barley and Naomi
went.
The man will not stop untilthis is taken care of today.
And so Boaz went to the towngate, the city gate, where all
the transactions happened, andit turned out that there was a
redeemer that was even closerthan Boaz was and he had the
(37:01):
right to redeem all that waslost with Naomi and Elimelech
and Malon and Kilion.
And it just so happened thatthis other redeemer was walking
by and Boaz said ah, brother, come here, do you want to redeem
the property and everythingthat was lost with our brother
(37:22):
Elimelech?
And the other redeemer saidokay, I will.
And Boaz was like, and it seemsas if the whole love story
would never happen.
But then Boaz said on the daythat you, do you also acquire
Ruth, the Moabitess, as yourwife to keep alive the name of
(37:43):
the dead?
And the other redeemer was likewhoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Now you go ahead and redeem it.
I might endanger my own estate.
Go ahead.
And so the way was paved forBoaz and Ruth.
And Boaz and Ruth got marriedand they loved each other and
(38:08):
Ruth had a baby boy.
And when Ruth had the baby boy,all of the people in Bethlehem,
all the women, they allproclaimed Naomi has a son.
Naomi has a son.
Wow.
(38:28):
And everybody had tears comingdown their face and they scooped
up this baby boy and laid thebaby boy on the knees of Naomi,
who had no hope.
She had no hope.
Her husband was gone, her sonswere gone, she had nothing left
and she thought God was againsther.
And here God was not againsther.
(38:49):
God was in the process ofredeeming her and Ruth and all
that was lost.
As tears rolled down her eyes, she looked up and thanked God.
She thanked him, though shecouldn't see at the time the
difficult time she was goingthrough.
(39:09):
She couldn't see the hand ofGod.
He was right there, working andrestored her completely, and
all that was lost was broughtback.
They named this little boy Obed.
Obed would grow up and he wouldhave a son.
His son's name would be Jesse.
(39:31):
Jesse would grow up and have ason.
The name of Jesse's son wouldbe David, the shepherd that
became king.
I am directly in the line ofKing David.
(39:55):
I go directly back to KingDavid, all the way back through
the kingly line to Solomon, toDavid.
In fact, if the Romans weren'truling over us right now and
things were the way they were inIsrael of old, I would be king
(40:27):
instead of just a carpenter.
I would be the king of Israel.
But you know, you shepherds wantyou to know that you shepherds.
You shepherd the flocks in thefields of Boaz and every year
(40:57):
you find the perfect lamb andwrap it in swaddling cloth and
take it to the temple forsacrifice.
It comes from your flocks.
You surely know that.
And I come down here every yearand I participate in the
Davidic wood cutting ceremony.
We chop wood for the temple, myclan, the clan, the house of
David, from here in Bethlehem, and we chop wood for the temple.
(41:21):
And I come down here every year.
And you know what?
When me and Mary were, we camedown here tonight and we were
knocking on people's doors, people from my family, people
from the house of David.
Not one person.
Let us stay with them, exceptthis kind man who let us stay
(41:49):
down here with the animals.
Not one of the people from myfamily, but you know what God is
so good.
I Was upset, knocking on doorsand getting them shut in my face
.
No, no, and every room, everyhouse has a guest room.
(42:11):
Every single house has a guestroom and offers For,
specifically for people that aretraveling to the temple.
Not one person from my family, but God.
He brought to my remembrance asI was sitting there and I was
kind of upset.
And he brought to myremembrance another scripture
(42:34):
that the rabbis, when I wasabout this tall, the rabbis
would be going back and forthand talking about these
different scriptures, all thesynagogue rabbis talking.
This other passage.
This was from prophet Micah, who prophesied alongside of
Isaiah, about 700 years ago fromwhere we are right now.
And prophet Isaiah said thoughyou, bethlehem, ephrathah, right
(42:58):
here, bethlehem, ephrathah, right here, though you are small
among the clans of Judah, fromout of you will come the one who
will be ruler of my people, whose origins are from ancient
times.
One of the rabbis even teacheshis origins are from eternity.
(43:18):
And then, tonight, as Mary gavebirth, I received Jesus with my
(43:41):
hands.
We didn't have a midwife.
I received Jesus with my hands.
We didn't have a midwife, Ireceived Jesus, and God brought
to my attention anotherscripture.
This one was from Prophet Isaiahalso this one, isaiah said for
unto us, a child is born.
(44:06):
For unto us, a son is given, and the government will be on
his shoulders and he will becalled oh wait, help me out
shepherds.
He'll be called wonderful right, but there's more to it.
A council somethingepherds.
He'll be called up Wonderfulright, but there's more to it
Counsel, oh yeah, counsel, butthere's more to it.
(44:27):
Mighty something, mighty God,right.
There's still more to this,though.
Everlasting something Right.
Everlasting father, the fatherof everlasting right, but
there's still more to it, though.
Everlasting something, right, everlasting father, the father
of everlasting right, butthere's still more to it the
prince of something.
What was that Right?
(44:49):
The prince of peace.
The scriptures now made sense.
Yes, the virgin will be withchild and she'll give birth to a
son, and she will call his nameEmmanuel, which means God.
With us, from out of Bethlehem, will come the one who will be
ruler of God's people, whoseorigins are from ancient times,
(45:09):
from eternity.
And for unto us A child is born.
For unto us, a son is given andthe government will be on his
shoulders and he will be calledwonderful counselor.
Mighty God, everlasting fatherand the prince of peace.
(45:34):
I'm going to raise the Son ofGod.
I'm going to raise the Son ofGod.
(45:55):
I'm going to raise the Son ofGod.
I'm just a carpenter.
I'll do my best with the giftthat you have given.
