Za karę (lub też jako zwierzę wspomagające, w sumie kto wie) musi zaopiekować się nowym zawodnikim/maskotką drużyny bejsbolowej - Edem, który jest szympansem. "Małpa na boisku" to film familijny, który jest jednak festiwalem skrótów fabularnych, złych rozwiązań scenariuszowych i żartów, które nie są przeznaczone dla młodego widza.
Widać tutaj wyraźnie, że Matt LeBlanc na fali popularności "Przyjaciół" chciał poszerzyć swoje spektrum rażenia. Ale mu nie wyszło. Zamiast świednej komedii w stylu "Pierwszej ligi", dostaliśmy podrzędny produkt, będąct połączeniem filmu sportowego i "Uwolnić orkę 4".
