Richmond (00:05):
Hi, you're listening
to Pockets, a podcast about
finding joy, meaning and purposein life's simplest moments.
I'm Richmond Camero.
Let's dive into today's journey.
How do you sustain being contentand happy?
(00:27):
So we're starting with a bigquestions right for a first
episode.
But I believe it is in the humannature that we like the idea of
permanence.
We like to think that what wehave now would last forever.
So whenever we find afriendship or relationship that
we dream of having, if we feelthat we have the perfect day or
(00:51):
we experience the happiestmoment with the air quotes, we'd
like to think that it will staythat way forever.
It took me a while tounderstand and accept that it's
not like that.
Well, on a logical level, Iknow that things are temporary,
I know that change is constant, but really it's hard to accept,
(01:15):
isn't it?
We have the tendency to wantthings to stay the same once we
achieve happiness, but havingthe idea of permanence for those
means putting pressure thatthey will stay that way.
We like to always feel happyand alright and we always want
to have the best experiences.
But having that kind of mindsetis self-sabotaging too.
(01:38):
It would affect me because it'san unrealistic expectation.
Try to think about it.
Instead of focusing on enjoyingthat moment, I use my energy
inefficiently to sustainingthose moments.
So that's when I thought aboutpockets.
(01:59):
It started with the phrasepockets of time.
I'm a writer and I don't alwaysenjoy putting words into the
page.
It's hard, okay, it's hard toinvent things and make other
people believe it, but there aredays maybe rare days when I'm
confident, when I feel like Iknow what I want to say and I
(02:19):
believe what I said, the flowstate I'm experiencing in
pockets of time.
So I thought about it.
Maybe I can try to emulate theidea of pockets in my life.
I don't have to strive tosustain things.
I only have to look for andcreate meaningful moments or
pockets.
(02:41):
It's building micro experiencesand interactions.
It's noticing the small things.
It's finding your five-minutepeace on your busy day.
And it applies to thenot-so-good experiences too
Feeling irritated.
It's just a pocket ofirritation.
Maybe you're triggered bysomething you saw in social
media.
(03:01):
Don't worry, it's just a pocket.
The idea is to start somethingsmall and to perceive the things
we experience as pockets andwith the small things, you build
a collection of them.
Maybe those small pockets ofexperiences will turn into the
connection or state of life thatyou're looking for.
For me, it's using thosepockets to build the meaningful
(03:26):
life I dream of having.
It's breaking up that ginormousgoal into manageable chunks
that I can tackle.
It's building small meaningfulconnections that I hope that
someday turn into deep ones thatI consider a safe space.
I may not find the answer toall of this, but curiosity has
always been the trait that keptme going.
(03:46):
I'd like to ask questions andto be open to opportunities.
Now I'm sharing this journeywith you as I explore how I can
find and create pockets.
I hope you'll learn somethingand create ones for yourself.
If this sounds like this isyour jam, welcome.
You're in for an amazing ride.
You've been with Pockets.
(04:10):
Thank you so much for sharingthis space with me.
Now go embrace the moments, build pockets of of meaning and
keep curiosity as your guide.
