Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to Podcast
Solutions Made Simple.
It's the podcast.
That's all about podcasting.
I'm your host, carl Richards.
You know, in my 25 plus yearsin the broadcast and speaking
world, I've noticed a lot ofoverwhelm when it comes to
podcasting, and I'm here to tellyou it doesn't have to be that
way.
If you're a coach, consultantor other subject matter expert
and the thought of starting apodcast seems too technical, too
(00:25):
confusing, too time-consumingor just way out of your reach,
then this is the podcast for you.
On this show, we give you thetools, tips and techniques to
run a kick-ass show and sharestories from people who have
been there, done that and areenjoying massive success with
their own shows.
Oh, and if you're an existingpodcaster, this show is also for
(00:47):
you.
The mics are up, so let's diveinto today's episode.
And today we're talking aboutsomething that really has me
scratching my head.
It really actually has meseething in some ways, and let
me just say I don't see.
Very often it's like the oldsaying I don't have many pet
peeves, because I don't like tokeep peeves as pets, but it's
(01:08):
one of my biggest pet peeves inthe podcasting space and that's
podcast misinformation, and itseems to be an ongoing problem,
and I think that the more peoplewho come to the podcasting
space, the more thismisinformation gets spread about
podcasting, and then the harderit is for people to navigate or
even make an educated decisionas to whether or not they should
(01:28):
have a podcast.
And that's the challenge.
And here's the thing Some ofthe people who are spreading
this misinformation and I don'tthink they're doing it
maliciously, I think it's justhappening because perhaps they
have their own podcast andthey've been very successful
with it and they want to sharethat information with others.
I mean, let's face it, that'show I came into the podcasting
(01:49):
space.
I went and I saw a guy by thename of Sam Crowley at an event
in Toronto.
I launched a podcast, and thenI started to think why don't
more people know about this?
I could help people by givingthem information and helping
them start their shows.
That's sort of how I gotstarted with podcast solutions
made simple.
Here's the problem, though Someof the individuals who are
sharing this information, orsharing this misinformation, are
(02:12):
people who are business owners, business coaches, marketing
coaches, and they're not comingat it from a place of having
expertise as a podcast coach.
They're coming at it from aplace of having expertise as a
business coach or as a businessowner.
It's sort of like me sayingwell, you should have a website.
(02:32):
I'm no expert, but here's whatI know about websites.
And then you're listening toeverything I have to say about
websites and deciding whether ornot you should build a website
based on my recommendations, orlike getting information or
getting advice from me about howto fix your car.
I would not recommend that.
I am not a car person at alland my spouse reminds me of that
(02:55):
all the time.
Every time I go and start tomuck around with the car, my
spouse will run outside and saywhat are you doing?
It's a Tesla, it doesn't needto be fixed.
Same thing with a lot of thispodcast misinformation that's
out there.
There are so many people inthis space not sharing the right
information.
(03:16):
Here's the problem withmisinformation and, by the way,
this is not going to be aone-part episode.
There's so much information toshare about this.
I want to break this down intosmaller sections.
Here's the problem with podcastmisinformation, though.
Misinformation leads to poordecisions when you don't have
(03:37):
the right information aboutpodcasting.
Be it how often you shouldrelease an episode, be it should
you have art for your show, beit should it be an audio podcast
or video podcast you make thewrong decision or you make a
poor decision for your business, and when you do that, it's
(03:58):
maybe hard to correct it.
Misinformation leads to poorquality.
One of the things we know aboutpoor quality in the podcasting
space is there is less and lessroom for it.
If you want to be one of thepeople who provides premium
content for your audience, quality has to be spectacular.
(04:18):
It cannot be something that isoverlooked and, as I said, there
are many pieces to this puzzle.
That's why we're going to takeit over a series of episodes
over the next three or fourweeks to go over this, because
there is so much information totalk of this.
As far as quality and that goesright back to how much you're
investing in your podcast theother thing is.
(04:41):
The third thing ismisinformation leads to poor
results.
If you start a podcast becausesomebody said you should start a
podcast, it'll cost you nothing.
Don't worry about the quality.
Just put it out there and justsee what happens.
You might not get the resultsyou want, and when you don't get
the results you want, you fallinto this thing that in the
(05:03):
podcast world is called pod fade.
Pod fade is when there are somany shows out there and you
maybe do it for five episodes, six episodes, maybe seven or
even maybe even 10 episodes, andthat's where you stop.
You don't do any other episodesbecause you say, well, I'm not
getting the results I want, andmaybe the reason you're not
(05:25):
getting the results you want isbecause somebody gave you
misinformation about podcastingfrom the beginning.
And again, some of the peoplespreading this misinformation
are people who are not in theknow about podcasting, but in
the know about business.
There are businessorganizations sharing
information about podcasting.
That is the wrong information.
(05:47):
Now, my quest is to help younavigate through that and
provide the right informationbased on where we are right now,
in the fall of 2023, and wherethings are in the podcasting
space All right.
So over the next severalepisodes, we'll be talking about
everything from the quality ofpodcasts, from how much money it
(06:09):
might take to invest in theshow, from whether or not you
have time to have a podcastthere is some misinformation
about that as well to whether ornot you use social media for
your podcast or you don't usesocial media for your show.
So we're going to talk aboutthat, as I said, over the next
several episodes.
What I want you to do, though,is take the time to listen to
(06:30):
all of the episodes, because, ifyou really want to be
successful in the podcastingspace, yes, there is a certain
attitude or a certainwherewithal to just say just go
do it and see what the resultsare.
You want to make sure, when youtake that step, you are ready,
you have the information thatyou need, you have the right
(06:50):
tools and you have the rightteam to help you be successful
in that space.
So, over the next few weeks, that's what we'll be sharing in
more detail is themisconceptions about podcasting
and how you can navigate aroundthem and make the right decision
, especially if you are lookingto launch a new podcast or
(07:12):
create your first podcast, andyou want it to be successful and
you want it to elevate yourbrand, your business or your
credibility.
So stay tuned.
