Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Podcast Suck.
A podcast about starting apodcast where we dive headfirst
into the wild, wacky andsometimes frustrating world of
podcasting.
If you've ever sat down with amicrophone, hit record and
thought what on earth am I doing?
Or if you're just curious aboutthe magic behind your favorite
shows, then you're in the rightplace.

(00:22):
Get ready for laughs, insightsand a whole lot of what not to
do advice as we embark on thispodcasting journey together.
Let's dive in, becauseapparently the last episode that
I just got done recording hadno audio.

(00:44):
So tip number one on thisepisode check your audio before
recording a podcast episode.
I should know better.
The podcast coach should knowbetter.
Anyway, new computer softwarehas its mind of its own switch
and audio settings.
Here we are no excuses.

(01:04):
The last thing I want to do,just so you know, is just record
an episode that I just got donerecording all over again.
But we're doing it becausethat's what we do and if I
didn't do that someone wouldmiss out.
So hopefully you can hear me.
I'm going to text somebody realquick to make sure, because I

(01:28):
just got a text that said it wasreally fun watching you sit
there and talk to thatmicrophone, but we can't hear
anything.
So here we are Today.
I want to talk to you aboutborrowing my confidence.
My coach, dan Martell, talksabout this a lot.
He's very abrasive with hismastermind coaching clients, and

(01:52):
I'm glad that he is.
He's a hug with a slap on theback of the head, and for good
reason.
He talks to entrepreneurs andbusiness owners like they need
to be talked to and tells themthe truth, and he often says hey
, today, borrow my confidence.
I'm smiling a lot more, got mybraces off.
For those of you tuning in,listen to the podcast, you have

(02:14):
to go over to YouTube and seethe live recording replay of
this.
We record this show live onFacebook, linkedin and YouTube.
What's up to everybody tuningin live?
And those of you tuning intothe actual podcast episode and
listening what's happening, I'mglad everybody's here, but, yeah
, got my braces off yesterday.

(02:36):
So take it easy, ladies.
Take it easy, okay.
Anyhow, borrowing my confidencewhat in the world do you mean by
that, sebastian?
Listen, there's a rhyme andreason on why you haven't
started something yet.
Chances are, it's your bullshitexcuses.

(02:58):
Number one and number two it'syour lack of confidence.
Somewhere along the line, youlost confidence.
I'm not a confident person.
I forgot my lines in the schoolplay when I was in third grade
and everybody laughed at me.
Whatever it may be, now's thetime to change the narrative,
and the best way to do that agood hack to do that is to

(03:21):
borrow someone else's confidence.
I'm saying borrow my confidencebecause, well, I mean, I'm
using me as an example right now.
Whoever you look up to, whoeveryou admire, whoever if you were
like I, really like how theyshow up, if I could do that,
well, newsflash, you're notgoing to do that because that's
that person's thing, but you'regoing to do what you do how you

(03:45):
do it.
You see, when you borrowsomebody else's confidence long
enough, eventually you developyour own lack of confidence,
also referred to as fear.
We've talked about this before.

(04:08):
When it comes to impostersyndrome, a made-up term
disguised as fear I'm tellingyou, fear will keep you stuck in
places you don't want to be in.
It will keep you and preventyou from ever getting started
from doing anything.
There's not a worse combinationthan fearfulness and lack of

(04:30):
confidence.
I know, I know, I know You'reafraid of sounding stupid or
nobody's going to listen, or allI'm going to hear or crickets.
Just stop the nonsense and theexcuses.
You don't know any of that.
You don't know who's going tolisten, you don't know what
crickets are where, you don'tknow who needs to hear what you

(04:54):
have to say and because you'resitting on the lack of
confidence, full of fear, sideline, someone's missing out.
You hear me say this a lot.
I say it in all my talks.
I start all my talks with itand I end all my talks with it,
because someone asked me thisquestion 15 years ago and

(05:16):
everything changed for me.
And that question was who'smissing out Because you're not
showing up?
Who's missing out becauseyou're lacking confidence?
Who's missing out becauseyou're living in fear?
You don't know who is?
You've got the knowledge, you've got the expertise, you've
got the business, you've gotall the chops you need in order

(05:39):
to get started.
The only thing missing isconfidence.
Friends, I'm here to tell youtoday confidence is a choice, it
is a decision, and until youchoose it, well, borrow mine,
borrow somebody else's.
I want you to imagine for aminute that you've been showing

(06:03):
up, like you, for some 500episodes that you've got under
your belt.
When you first started, youwere shaking in your boots.
Then you got a little morecomfortable.
Then an opportunity was created, then a relationship was
established.

(06:23):
Then someone reached out to youwith a compliment.
Those are tough for some peopletoo.
I'll never understand that.
Let me go on a quick rant aboutthat.
Real quick.
When someone takes the time tocompliment you for something you
said or something you did thathelped them and you don't simply

(06:46):
say thank you, I appreciatethat and I'm really glad to hear
that it helped you.
But instead you decide torespond with some jargon like
well, I mean, people will likestraight up, not acknowledge the
fact that someone'sacknowledging them or giving

(07:07):
them a compliment.
You are blocking someone'sblessing by not receiving the
positive feedback someone'sgiving you.
Let me repeat that you areblocking someone else's blessing
and joy by not receiving thecompliment they give you.
Sebastian, I love that episode.
It really helped me thinkdifferently about this.

(07:28):
You know what.
I really appreciate you tellingme that that's why I do what I
do, and I'm so grateful that ithad an impact on you.
All right, rant over with that.
Someone pays you a compliment, say thank you, okay.
So when you're borrowingconfidence, you're not faking it

(07:48):
.
You're borrowing a beliefsystem until your reps start to
make it real for you Realmeaning.
You have stepped into yourlevel of confidence where you're
like you know what I got this.
You know what I kind of likethis.

(08:09):
You know what?
I don't even know what I wasever concerned with in the first
place.
You got to start messy.
Your first episode is going tosuck.
Everyone sucks.
That's part of the game, partof the process.
I go back is going to suckEveryone sucks.
That's part of the game, partof the process.
I go back to my first episodes15 years ago.
I want to cringe.
My favorite filler word wasawesome.
I'd say it every other wordAwesome, awesome.

(08:31):
You'll probably never hear mesay that word ever again,
because it's so top of mind andI'm so aware of it and it's so
cringe worthy to me.
I'm so aware of it and it's socringeworthy to me.
We ain't going back.
Baby, listen, you can't begreat until you suck first.
Okay, you got to be willing.
What's that?
Quote B?
When's the last time you werewilling to suck at something new

(08:54):
?
Great quote.
We all have to start somewhere.
Very rarely do we hit theground running out of the gate,
going man, that was awesome.
There I go, there I go, withthe awesome word.
Here's what happens when youlean in.
Okay, number one, you buildtrust at scale, trust in

(09:14):
yourself, trust in your ownconfidence, trust from your
community.
You know what confidence feelslike on somebody else.
You know what it looks like.
Think about what it looks likefor you.
You also become a magnet forthe clients, deals, partnerships
, relationships that youactually want.
Stop chasing, start attracting.

(09:35):
But that comes with confidence, that comes with your voice, when
you finally realize, oh, thiswas never, ever, ever about
being perfect, it was just aboutbeing present.
Everything starts to change.
It was never about beingperfect, it was about being

(10:00):
present.
You may want to write that down.
None of this is going to workunless you're actually willing
to get started and believe inthe power of imperfect action.
We all start somewhere.
We all start with the resourceswe have, with where we're at

(10:25):
and nine times out of 10, it'llbe messy, so what?
It'll be messy, so what?
But you not showing up, someoneis missing out, and you're okay
with that, and you could sleepat night knowing that.
Well, that's on you.
I can't, and I'm trying tochange all that.
I'm trying to change thethought process that people have

(10:46):
around, that whole idea ofsitting on this.
No confidence, full of fear, sideline just hoping Hope's a
terrible plan, by the way.
It's important to be hopeful, but if that's your only plan,
why hope?
It's all going to change.
It's not going to change untilyou change.

(11:08):
Nothing great is createdwithout massive action.
In fact, massive action solvesa lot of life's problems.
So if you've been thinkingabout it, writing about it,
dreaming about it, talking aboutit, whatever it is, starting a
podcast, writing a book, doingyour thing, leaving that shitty

(11:28):
relationship, quitting the jobyou hate, we got one shot at
this thing called life Time.
It's the only thing they're notmaking more of.
What are you doing with yours?
Are you leveraging it to becomea better human being?
Are you leveraging it to getyour message out?
Do you realize that yourmessage and your content and

(11:53):
what you have to share canchange someone else's life?
Do you realize that we're allconnected in this whole life
experience here?
But if you don't believe that,no one and I mean no one else
will.
I want to make sure you'rehearing me correctly when we

(12:17):
don't show up, someone missesout on our gifts.
I don't know if I have anygifts.
Well, there's the lack ofconfidence again.
Control the narrative of thisstory that you're feeding
yourself, because chances arestory's not even true and
someone's missing out, includingyou.
Start the thing.
You know exactly what you needto do.

(12:41):
You just need to do it.
Borrow my confidence.
Confidence is a choice.
Borrow my confidence.
Confidence is a choice.
Until you choose it, borrowmine.
That's all I got to share withyou today.

inventory short-term.
