RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES.

One of the sad, but true, principles of the Trump Administration is to flood the Zone with bullshit. So much news, so much scandal, so much outrageous behavior, so many egregious missteps and cruel actions, so many flat out lies, that we tend to be overwhelmed and forget things that happened a week ago. So this is just your friendly little reminder that they have still not released the Epstein files. Fortunately, we have a new reminder coming up tomorrow, September 3rd.

Survivors of abuse by Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, are planning to hold a news conference on Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m. after lawmakers return from their monthlong recess. The event will be held in the House Triangle, a location outside the U.S. Capitol often used for these sorts of events.  Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Ro Khanna, D-Calif are sponsoring the event, and Massie said several of the survivors "will be speaking out for the first time.”

The lawmakers are promoting legislation to compel the Trump administration to release records from the investigation into Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who died by suicide behind bars in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges involving dozens of women and girls as young as 14.

Massie and Khanna plan to file a discharge petition on their measure to force the Trump administration to release Epstein-related material. That procedural gambit can bypass leadership to bring the measure to the House floor if it reaches 218 signatures, requiring at least a handful of Republicans to support it.

Massie said Tuesday he intends to open the petition to signatures at 2 p.m. EDT, when the House returns from recess.

The administration has been under pressure since the DOJ said that no further disclosures in the case "would be appropriate or warranted." This led to a rare backlash from Trump supporters who believe the files contain incriminating information about Epstein's wealthy and powerful friends.

Trump has repeatedly sought to downplay the uproar and move on from it, but his personal relationship to Epstein is still under scrutiny. I mean, after dozens of photos, records, quotes, and compliments, there are some who still question that Trump and Epstein were associated with each other. In any other circle, mere mention of a friendship with  a sexual abuser of children would be toxic, but we've already seen that Trump thrives on toxicity. and so does his idiot base.
