Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the
Positioned Podcast.
I am your host, kimberly Knight, and today we're going to
continue with our Don't PanicPrepare series, and our topic
today is about buildingcommunity for the next season.
So hello, dear ones, welcomeback.
I'm so glad you're here todaybecause we're going to be diving
(00:21):
into something that I believeis absolutely critical for the
next season that we're walkinginto Today.
We're going to be diving intosomething that I believe is
absolutely critical for the nextseason that we're walking into.
Today we're going to talk aboutbuilding community, and I want
you to hear my heart on this.
This isn't about having nicefriendships or you know people
to grab coffee with.
I'm talking about the kind ofintentional community building
that can weather storms together, that can stand strong even
(00:43):
when things feel uncertain.
I've been sensing, and I'vebeen sharing, that we are
entering into a season where thebody of Christ is going to need
each other in ways we haven'texperienced before.
We are already seeing economicuncertainty, spiritual warfare
is intensifying, culturalpressures are mounting, and I
(01:05):
believe God is calling Hispeople to prepare not in fear,
but in faith and wisdom.
So let's talk about how tobuild the kind of community that
doesn't just survive hard times, but thrives and becomes a
beacon of hope for others.
So just take this moment tothink about why community isn't
just nice to have, but it'sessential.
(01:30):
I don't believe that God everdesigned you to walk through
life alone.
If you remember, back inGenesis, when God was creating,
he said everything was gooduntil we got to the point that
he said it was not good for manto be alone.
And that's not just a scripturewe use for marriage.
That's just also a scriptureabout doing life together and
staying connected to others andto God.
Community is not about justhaving people around when things
are good.
It's about having people whocan stand with you when
(01:50):
everything else fails, wheneverything falls apart.
The enemy of your soul wantsyou to be isolated, because
isolated believers arevulnerable believers and when
we're not connected in authenticcommunity, then we become
vulnerable.
But when we are connected incommunity, we become
exponentially stronger.
I do believe that it is God'sdesign for us to walk through
the valleys and the mountaintopstogether.
(02:13):
If you look back in Acts 2, ittalks about the early church not
just meeting for services, butthey also did life together.
They shared their resources, they prayed, they supported each
other through hardship, andthis wasn't just casual
friendship.
This was a covenant communitythat could function no matter
what happened.
So we want to positionourselves the same way.
Jesus modeled his inner circlewhen things got intense.
(02:35):
He didn't isolate, he didn'tjust run off into his prayer
closet.
Now, he was good for going intothe prayer closet, but he was
also gathering his supportersaround him Even when he went
into the garden.
He didn't go alone, and I thinkit's God's heart for us to bear
one another's burden.
So let's start looking at thisas being important during this
(02:56):
season.
I also want to say that now is atime to start building, because
I'm sensing in my spirit thatthis is the time to start
building connections.
You don't wait until crisishits to create your support
system.
It's like trying to dig a welland you're dying of thirst, or
waiting to build the ark whileit's raining.
The glue is not going to stickbecause it's too humid.
Now you need to be like thewise versions in Matthew 25, who
(03:17):
prepared their oil before thebridegroom came and they didn't
wait until the last minute.
Or like Noah, who built the arkwait for it before it started
raining and not afterwards.
You also want to createnetworks that function during
disruption.
So we need to think beyondnormal times and at this point I
don't even know what's normal.
(03:38):
We have a new normal.
Start thinking about what kindof community do I need?
What kind of support systems doI need if other systems
disappear or are dysfunctional?
What relationships do you wantto have with people who share
your values and your sense ofprophetic preparation for this
season?
It also means creatingcommunication systems that don't
depend on everything workingperfectly.
Think about the early churchagain.
(03:58):
They met in homes.
They had networks that couldfunction under extraordinary
circumstances, and yourcommunity needs to be resilient
and not just comfortable.
These are not people you're.
They had networks that couldfunction under extraordinary
circumstances, and yourcommunity needs to be resilient
and not just comfortable.
These are not people you'rejust going to go shopping at the
mall with.
These are people you reallywant to be able to do life with,
even when life gets hard.
(04:20):
The other thing I want you tothink about is building this
community now, because it'simportant to start building it
now so that it has time todevelop and grow.
You have time to build trustand shared experiences before
you need each other.
That means approaching peoplethat you may or may not normally
approach, and you need to do sowithout sounding alarmist or
paranoid and I know some of youare thinking how do I talk to
people about this withoutsounding crazy?
(04:40):
Right, I'm glad you asked.
And here's the key Share yourheart and your sense of what God
is showing you, but let HolySpirit do the convincing.
You might say something likeyou know, I've been sensing
something in the Spirit thatwe're entering into a season
where we're going to need eachother more.
And would you be interested inpraying about building a deeper
community together, or somethinglike that.
(05:00):
You know, lead with love, notfear, not pressure.
Let Holy Spirit do theconvincing.
If they say no, say thank youfor considering.
If you change your mind, holySpirit speaks to you.
Let me know the right peoplewill have a witness in your
spirit about what you're sharing.
I can tell you that in theselast few months, I have been
meeting people and building anew community around myself that
(05:21):
I normally wouldn't have, norwould I have been reaching out
the way I have been.
Why?
Because I am sensing that thisis the time and the season to
build.
Before we meet each other, let's start having relationship,
and I'm not trying to convinceanyone.
I can tell you, everyone thatI've met and I've approached has
been sensing something similar.
We just want to be faithful, toshare with those who have the
(05:43):
same thing on their heart, orwho God puts on your heart,
because it'll be speaking tothat person too.
It's the same spirit, it's thesame Holy Spirit that would be
speaking to that person.
When you begin to build theserelationships, I want you to
focus on not just being a takerbut also a giver.
Community is about sharedsupport, not about handouts and
greediness.
I think it's like in Galatians6, it says to bear one another's
(06:03):
burdens.
That is mutual, it's notone-sided.
So, as you're building thiscommunity, ask yourself what
skills, what resources, whatsupport can I offer?
Not just what do I need, butwhat can I offer?
Because true community is abouteveryone contributing what they
can, everyone bringing whatthey have to the table.
And if you're thinking onlyabout what you can get, you're
(06:26):
not ready for covenantrelationships.
You're not because that's notthe way it looks, and that's the
other thing I wanted to talkabout again.
I'm going to say this againthis is not about just building.
Hey, let's go do a Zumba classtogether.
I mean you can do those thingsright, because that does help
build relationship.
But there's going to come atime that you may need this
person for more than a Zumbaclass.
(06:48):
Be the kind of person also thatpeople can lean on.
The Bible says that in order tohave a friend, you must first
show yourself friendly.
Be that kind of person thatpeople can lean on and that when
God surrounds you with thesepeople, they can depend on you,
and that you are your word.
Very important, also keeping inmind that these relationships
are both practical and spiritual.
They're practical and they'respiritual and if you know me at
(07:11):
all, I'm very much about beingpractical, because sometimes my
former bishop used to say we'reso heaven-minded we're no
earthly good.
Your, your, your spiritualstuff also has to play out in
your practical, natural actions.
So your community that you'rebuilding and yourself that
you're bringing to thiscommunity, you need to be able
(07:32):
to function both on thespiritual and the practical
level.
So practically that might looklike people having a different
skill set, other than you do,and bringing different things to
the table, and spiritually itmay be about covering each other
in prayer, intercession, encouraging each other in the
word In Hebrews 10,.
It says do not neglect theassembling of ourselves together
(07:54):
, especially as we see the dayapproaching.
My God oh, that's a wholemessage right there.
The other thing that justdropped in my spirit is if
you're going to encouragesomeone in the word, you need to
know the word.
Please let me say that again Ifyou're going to encourage
someone in the word, you need toknow that word.
So it is now time for you tostart getting that word and
hiding it in your heart and alsocommunicating with people and
(08:17):
building relationship withpeople who also are looking to
build the word into their heart, into their spirit, and letting
that pour out into theirpractical applications.
How they treat people, how theyinteract with the world, their
thought process they would bringto community.
How they interact with theworld, their thought process
(08:37):
they would bring to community.
Not only do you want people whowill pray you through the
spiritual battles, you also wantpeople who are going to help
you through the practicalchallenges, and I think I've
said that, but I'm going to do aseparate episode on preparing
spiritually, so stay tuned forthat.
Be sure to check out the otherepisodes in this series, because
I am going to be looking atmaking sure that we're
well-rounded and that we'reprepared as much as possible.
Also, keep in mind that aprepared community can also be a
(09:01):
witnessing tool.
Not everybody's going to listento these episodes.
Not everyone is going to beready.
Some of you are going to listenand say okay, okay, okay, and
still not prepare.
I love you anyway.
But when we're prepared andwe're functioning in that role
and in strong community, itbecomes a powerful witness to
the world.
And when everything else isshaking around us, if we can be
(09:22):
that beacon of stability andpreparation and support and
steady, and they see us walkingthese things out in practicality
, it's going to be things thatpeople want and I'm not talking
about resources, I'm talkingabout the peace, the confidence
of God.
All those things are going tobe very important moving forward
.
(09:44):
Let's see if there's anythingelse I wanted to share.
Oh, I think I talked about it,but I just want to hit on it
again about moving from thecasual to the covenant.
So there's a different depth ofcommitment when we start
talking about that and casualfriends are great for good times
.
But covenant is about a deeperdepth of relationship and trust
(10:04):
and it's about being able todepend on each other during hard
times and being our word to ourinner circle, and it means
being honest about theirexpectations and your boundaries
, and having those conversationson purpose.
On purpose, so that you're ableto be with each other no matter
what comes All right.
So thank you for listening tothis episode.
(10:27):
I want to leave you with this.
Building community for the nextseason is not an option.
This is essential, and it'sgoing to start with you making a
decision to move beyond thecasual connections that you may
have towards meaningful,purposeful relationships, and
those take time.
That is why I'm going toencourage you to start now.
(10:49):
Start now, start small, ask Godto show you who he is calling
you to build community with inthis next season, and then be
the kind of friend you want tohave, be willing to give as much
as you hope to receive, andtrust that, as you step out, god
is going to be with you everystep of the way.
He promised to never leave usnor forsake us, no matter what
(11:12):
lies ahead.
So remember we don't panic.
We prepare, and in this case,we're going to prepare together.
So until next time, be blessedand stay positioned.
Bye now.
