Every day is a new day
to begin again. The truth is
every hour is a chance to startagain, to reframe your thinking
or to muster the courage to takethe first step towards something
new. And yet, how often do weuse the opportunity of a new
moment to consider what making achange can do for us, and for
those around us? As VictoriaMoran said, in this moment,
(00:23):
there's plenty of time. In thismoment, you are precisely as you
should be. In this moment, thereis infinite possibility. Take
these moments to begin again, toreframe your thinking and to
consider how changing yourmindset could make all the
difference in the week ahead.

hello, my positivity posse, andwelcome to another episode of
positivity on fire. Regardlessof where you're tuning in from
(01:07):
today, it must be because you'relooking to begin again or to
start a new. Now if you're aloyal listener of the show, you
know, I'm a big believer inevery day is a new day to begin
again, every day is a new day tostart again to start a new to
try something different. So ifyou're tuning in for the very
first time, and this is yourvery first episode of positivity
(01:29):
on fire, let's get to it. Let'stake a look at what it means to
start a new to begin a new. Nowfor me beginning a new is this
podcast launched it back inDecember of 2020. It was new for
me, it's the way that we'reconnected now, we never would
have been connected prior tothis podcast hosting. So I tried
(01:51):
something new. This is Episode31. Today is a good day to begin
again. So when is a good time tostart again, to start a new, it
could be any day or actually anyhour of your life. You can have
this epiphany moment and say,You know what, I'm going to
pivot, I'm going to do somethingdifferent with my life, I'm
(02:11):
going to change something aboutme that I don't like, I'm going
to focus on something new, because it's time for me to make
a change. So what does that looklike? What are some things that
you can actually do if you'relooking to start a new Now for
those of you just tuning in mylongtime listeners know this,
I'm going to come at you withsome research with some articles
that I've found. And I'm goingto have a little bit of a twist
(02:33):
on how it applies in my ownlife. And hopefully, it'll mean
something to you or have meaningto you that you can then apply
it in your own life. So today'sarticle comes from fast
company.com. And go figure it'scalled the 10
best pieces of advice for makinga fresh start. Now, as many of
(02:54):
you know, not only in thispodcast, have I started a new or
starting something new what wealso moved we moved about at the
end of June. And so that's brandnew for me as well. So number
one on this list is actually trynew things. Go to a new
restaurant, go to a newrestaurant, have a type of food
(03:15):
that you've never had before, goto a museum, go see a sporting
event that you've never been togo for a stroll in a new
neighborhood, take some time toread a new book on a topic that
is something that may or may notinterest you. And take a risk of
big proportions. You never knowwhat may come your way if you
(03:37):
try something new. And tryingsomething new is really all
about just taking a risk.
Getting out of your comfort zonea little bit, heading in a new
direction and trying somethingnew. Number two on the list.
Don't be afraid to fail. I'vesaid this in other episodes,
don't be afraid to fail. Becourageous truck. And when you
are trying something new, it'sokay if it doesn't go well.
(04:00):
Let's say you're trying to learnhow to you roller skate or
skateboard. Or maybe you'venever driven a car before. And
you want to learn how to drive.
Don't be afraid to fail. Don'tbe afraid. Don't be afraid to
when you are trying new thingsto fail. It's okay. Failure is
not the end result or the end ofyour actions. No, not at all. If
(04:25):
failure is a way to learn, failure is a way to learn from
your mistakes. It's a way togrow. It's a way to become
better at what it is that you'retrying to accomplish in life, or
a task that you're trying to getbetter at. So don't be afraid to
fail. Why? Because we're allhuman. We all make mistakes.
There's not a single person onthis planet that is perfect, who
(04:48):
has not failed in something thatthey've tried. So it doesn't
matter. If you fail, fail again, fail again and again and again
because you'll never know ifyou're going To be good at
something until you try numberthree on this list. And I think
this is probably one that drivesmy family crazy, because I will
(05:09):
I'll do it, it's talk tostrangers. And oddly enough,
people only talk to strangersabout two to 3% of the time,
they don't take the opportunityto engage, you have to open
yourself up to newopportunities, my friends,
whether it is trying somethingnew, or actually, and maybe
talking to a stranger issomething trying. And perhaps
(05:30):
talking to a stranger issomething that you're going to
try that's new, maybe you'venever done it before. But you
got to open yourself up to theopportunities, you have to be
able to ask good questions, folks, you need not be afraid to
have a conversation withsomebody around something that's
going on around you, orcommenting on perhaps something
(05:51):
that they're doing well, ortrying to make them smile. And
the truth is, you don't have tobe an extrovert to do this,
right. introverts can do this aswell. It's okay. It's not just
extroverts who are out there, chatting up strangers. Now,
introverts can do it. The truthis, no one cares. No one cares,
because they're focused onthemselves. Right? If you start
(06:13):
to spark a conversation withsomebody, nobody's gonna care
that you're doing that theyactually might enjoy it. So take
the time to do it.
And when you do, make sure thatyou listen intently, make sure
that you'll listen to what theother person has to say. Because
that could further theconversation. If you if you're a
mindful listener, in thosemoments of talking to strangers,
you can learn things you neverknew. Now, sometimes you may
(06:36):
learn things that you neverwanted to know. Or you may learn
some things that you may want toforget. But I guarantee you most
of the time, you're going tohave a really good interaction
with those people. And it'sgoing to, it's gonna further
your mindset about trying newthings. Number four, be willing
to change. You know, it's a bigtopic for me, folks, be willing
(06:57):
to change, you can never getfurther down the road tomorrow,
by staying where you are today.
It's just not gonna happen.
Right? It's just not going tohappen. You need to let go of
your preconceived notions, youneed to let go of the thought
that where you are today is goodenough. No, we as human beings
(07:18):
need, we absolutely, positivelyneed to continue to grow, we
need to continue to learn, it'sthe only way that we will get
further in life. Now, if youthink you're happy where you
are, and it's good enough, letme tell you, when you have the
courage to try and changesomething in your life, when you
have the courage to try newthings, when you're no longer
(07:40):
afraid about failing, when youput yourself out there, outside
of your comfort zone, a wholenew world opens up to you. So be
willing to change. Number fiveon this list, probably my
favorite of all the numbers onthis list. Number five, write a
personal mission statement. Now,for me, my personal mission
(08:02):
statement is this. Kindnessmatters. Unexpected kindness
heals. What do I mean by that?
kindness matters is prettysimple, right? If you if you're
kind to other people, it reallymatters. But if you think about
it for a moment, those peoplewho maybe you're having a bad
day and don't expect to receivekindness, I believe that
unexpected kindness from astranger. Now this is where that
(08:25):
whole talk to strangers comes inunexpected kindness from a
stranger can actually healsomebody, it can, it can turn
their day around in such a waythat they may go on and pay it
forward. So again, my personalmission statement, kindness
matters, and unexpected kindnessheals is kind of how I go about
(08:47):
my life. So you know, companieshave mission statements, you can
look at any big company and youcan look at their mission and
their vision and their values.
And you should do the samething. Write one for yourself,
write a personal missionstatement, whatever it may be.
But think about it, take amoment, pen some ideas down. And
(09:08):
it becomes a powerful tool foryou write up a personal mission
statement becomes a way for youto focus yourself on a path down
the road, right a path towardssuccess. For me. Unexpected
kindness is all about trying tomake a profound impact on the
world. That's That's it. That'sThat's why my mission statement
(09:31):
exists. Number six, don't try tofit in, I have spent a lifetime
of trying to fit in, and I stilltry to do it from time to time.
The problem with trying to fitin is because we think that by
trying to fit in to a norm or anexpectation that will actually
(09:51):
propel us forward in life. Andthe truth is, it won't it took
me 50 plus years of living onthis planet to realize Trying to
fit in is not a good thing. Now,that comes from being a military
brat and talked about that inanother episode, I had moved
around a lot as a kid. So tryingto fit in was key right away,
(10:11):
because we may only be living ina place for a year or two or
three. So trying to fit inbecame part of who I was as a
child and young adult. And thenlater in life as an adult, I'm
starting to move away from thatnow I'm starting to reconsider
what it means to be me what Ibring to the world, what are my
(10:32):
unique talents and gifts? Andyou should do the same thing.
Stop trying to fit in, take alook at yourself and determine
what are the things that I canbring to the world, what are my
unique gifts, my unique talents, and let those shine, don't be
afraid to let those shine. Andnumber seven, don't confuse
having an opinion with having athought. And to be clear, having
(10:56):
a thought is the process ofgenerating an original idea.
Ora distinction about an original
idea. Okay? Having a thoughtrequires great energy, it
requires attention. It requiresyou to do some profound, deep
thinking. Having a thought now, having an opinion requires none
(11:21):
of that having an opinion isonly about whether you like or
dislike an idea. I wouldencourage you to continually,
continually work on trying tohave a thought, original idea, a
thoughtful take on somethingnew. That's power, when you can
(11:44):
focus on having a thought ratherthan an opinion about a
particular topic. That is whenyou find yourself, kind of like
in this aha moment of life.
number eight on the list, don'tget hung up on perfect back and
march 20, Episode 13, we didprogress not perfection. So
(12:05):
check that out if you're lookingfor a little bit more detail,
but don't get hung up onPerfect. Now I'm all for
excelling and being successfulin your life. But when you start
to become a perfectionist aroundevery single thing that you do,
it will hold you back, being aperfectionist is is not about
(12:26):
being successful. And being aperfectionist is about being
afraid to commit to getsomething done. And to move
forward. If you're too afraid toput your work out there, because
you don't think it's perfectenough for whomever it is that
you may think has an eye towardsgiving you a hard time about it.
(12:46):
You'll never publish, you'llnever put it out there. So don't
get hung up on being perfect.
Rather, take a look at thethings that you think are
important. And remember that itis more important to make
progress than to be perfect inyour work. So never let perfect
be the enemy of good enough.
(13:08):
Number nine analyst be selfish.
I don't mean be selfish, interms of looking at yourself and
saying Me, me, me witheverything right? Everything
should be centered around, youknow, what I mean, by being
selfish, is make sure that youcreate boundaries in your life.
And if you're starting somethingnew, if it's Today's a good day
to start again, then you haveboundaries that are wide open,
(13:28):
tighten those, right, tightenthe boundaries in your life,
don't allow other people tointrude on those boundaries, you
are the one who is in control ofhow you want to live your life.
So go ahead and set theboundaries. It's it's healthy,
it shows that you're a groundedperson, it shows that you're
willing to take care of your ownneeds first, right? I'm not
(13:52):
saying that you're selfinvolved. I'm seeing yourself
focused. And that's a bigdifference, right? It's better
to be self focused than it is tobe self involved. People who are
self focused, are happier, they're healthier, they live a
better life, they have betterrelationships. And number 10 on
the list. Don't worry about thebig picture. Celebrate every
(14:15):
single milestone. If youconstantly wait until that big
project is done as opposed tothe tasks that you're completing
along the way. You're going tohave this sense of kind of
overwhelm. If you celebrateevery little milestone email
every time you cross somethingoff your task list. it shortens
the road right it shortens thepath to success. When you can
(14:35):
focus on intermediary milestonesto get where you need to be
perfect example. If you aretrying to lose weight, let's say
you need to lose 40 pounds.
Don't set 40 pounds as your goalset 10 and celebrate that set 10
again and celebrate again, set10 again and celebrate again and
(14:55):
set 10 again and celebrate againand when you hit the 40 really,
really Celebrate, that's yourbig goal. But until you chunk
stuff down until you take thetime to celebrate the milestones
in between, you're going to findyourself starting to fall back
on old habits fall back in a waythat won't allow you to achieve
(15:19):
success and move forward. So iftoday is the day that you're
trying to begin again, to starta new, just remember this list,
try new things. Don't be afraidto fail. talk to strangers, be
willing to change, write apersonal mission statement.
Don't try to fit in. Don'tconfuse having an opinion with
(15:39):
having a thought. Don't get hungup on perfect, be selfish. And
above all, don't worry about thebig picture and celebrate every
single milestone. Now if you'restarting a journey, and you're
