Mark Feldbush and I continue our discussion of Sam (Leslie) Phillips’ albums The Turning, The Indescribable Wow & Cruel Inventions. These three albums represent a pivotal time in Sam's life. In this episode, Mark & I discuss Cruel Inventions, her beautifully moody and tense 1991 album that explores exploitation, consumerism, capitalism and the dark side of love while struggling to understand just how we all fit into this crazy messed up world.

"Sam Phillips performs four songs with the help of Erik Gorfain, who plays an electric guitar with amps the sizeof cigarette boxes. He also trots out a Stroh violin — a contraption that mustbe seen to be believed".
