Grief, loss, trauma, and tragedy are all part of the human experience. Dr. Pat McLaughlin joins us to discuss his new book The Bear Facts of Life and shares his newfound perspective on dealing with them in a way that leaves us hopeful and ready to keep living past the hard times.

Pat McLaughlin was born in Binghamton, New York in 1967. Being an “IBM kid”, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1978 and later graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School in 1985. Having played quarterback at Charlotte Catholic, he went to Mars Hill College to play there as well. After realizing quickly that he was never going to play on Sundays, he decided to pursue the field of chiropractic. After attending three years at Mars Hill College, he attended and then graduated in 1991 with a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. After a brief associateship in Mount Prospect, Illinois, he returned to the Charlotte area in 1992 and worked in Mint Hill, NC at then Mint Hill Chiropractic. After 4 years there, he opened his own chiropractic practice at the coast of North Carolina in Morehead City in the beginning of 1996. During his time there, he opened four other satellite practices (Gastonia, Havelock, Cedar Point and Beaufort) that he has since sold. In 2009, he partnered to open up a Great Clips Hair Salon in Morehead City. In 2012, his partnership purchased 12 additional salons in the greater Wilmington area. In 2017, he joined another partnership group that purchased an additional 26 salons in the Nashville area. At one juncture, he was involved in 49 Great Clips salons in North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. He sold his shares in the Tennessee and Kentucky area in 2020 and now is involved with 21 salons in Eastern North Carolina. In 2021, with a high school friend, he partnered to open up a StayDry Center in Cary, NC with the second location opening in Wake Forest in October of 2022. Dr. McLaughlin is involved with real estate holdings as well in Morehead City. He is currently working in setting up a “Life Alignment” curriculum at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Entrepreneurship Program and has been a guest lecturer in this program.
