Amy (05:39):
Yep, there you go.

Garry (05:40):
All right.
So whoo Time to drop thesynopsis for season one.
Let's drop the synopsis Episodesix.

Amy (05:47):
All right, I'll do it.
Yes, yes.

Garry (05:49):
Do it.

Amy (05:50):
Gabby's family traditions are thwarted by Katie, her
former high school bully, andher brother's current girlfriend
.

Garry (05:57):
Yes, yes, ooh, and you know we'll probably give away
some spoilers, so if you haven'twatched it yet, guess what what
?
Pause it.

Amy (06:06):
Pause it, go watch it.

Garry (06:08):
And then come back and listen to our review.

Amy (06:10):
Our recap and review.

Garry (06:12):
Yes.

Amy (06:12):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
So the last time we saw theCamerina family, gabby realized
well, she was told or she sawthat Katie was the the
girlfriend of her brother.

Garry (06:26):
Yeah.

Amy (06:27):
And you know, we find out that Katie was actually really
mean to Gabby when they were inschool together and Gabby's kind
of carried that with her RightInto adulthood Right, and she
still has that moment when shesees her like, like it makes her
feel badly and like.
So that's kind of where we were.
And in the first episode we hadthe karaoke night where the

(06:50):
Camarena family goes and Katieand Gabby sing a song and then
Katie accidentally knocks Gabbyoff the stage.
And Gabby thinks it's on purpose, and so that's sort of where we
are, I think.

Garry (07:04):
Well, it's sad because her family really loves Katie.
And to Gabby it seems like theydon't even understand what's
going on, how deeply she washurt.
She was hurt that whole time.

Amy (07:17):
Middle school or high school or whatever it was, yeah,
yeah.
So it opens up with Gabbyhaving a dream that her brother,
kevin and Katie are gettingmarried, and she's all the way
in the back of the receptionhall and she keeps getting hit
by the door where the waitersare.
Way in the back of thereception hall and she keeps
getting hit by the door wherethe waiters are going in and out
.
Yeah, it hits her chair.
It hits her chair and thenkatie's calling everybody up

(07:40):
from the family.
And does she call her up andwell, she calls everybody up and
then.

Garry (07:45):
So, um, gabby stands up to to go to the front and then
gets wine dumped on her.
Oh, that's right, that's right, and then she finally makes her
way up front, and that's whenKatie calls her easy bake again.

Amy (08:00):
Yes, yes.

Garry (08:01):
And then Gabby wakes up.

Amy (08:03):
And then she yeah, so she had a little bit of a nightmare
about a wedding between herbrother and her nemesis from her
younger years.
Right.

Garry (08:10):
Yeah.

Amy (08:11):
So instantly you know that this is going to be an issue and
out of the gate, you're kind ofnot sure.
Has Katie changed?

Garry (08:19):
Right?
Has she not changed?
Like there's?

Amy (08:21):
some.
Is she, you know, is she tryingto make amends, Is she not?
I mean, I kind of felt likethat's where we were.
That's the gist that I got,Like they were trying to.

Garry (08:31):
Maybe she's changed, maybe she's not, maybe, she's,
not, maybe, she's still meanMaybe she did some things on
purpose.

Amy (08:36):
So Gabby's trying to make a cooking video.

Garry (08:39):
Yeah.

Amy (08:39):
And this is kind of in the first episode too we don't see
the cooking video.

Garry (08:42):
Right.

Amy (08:43):
But she's making like breakfast burritos.
And what does she call it?
Gourmet with Gabby, or?

Garry (08:48):
something.

Amy (08:48):
That's what she does her videos, and then Katie
interrupts and Kevin comes intoo.

Garry (08:53):
Yeah.

Amy (08:54):
And then the doorbell rings , and that's where Katie had
ordered Food, food Right.

Garry (09:00):
Knowing that Gabby is a chef, was cooking for her family
.
Yeah, and in that particularscene, because she's doing the
audition for the cooking show.

Amy (09:12):
Oh right, gabby got an audition for a big cooking show,
and so she's trying to makethis video and she gets
interrupted and, yes, thedoorbell rings and it's like
DoorDash, but it's not DoorDash.

Garry (09:22):
They bring the food.
And she was like her mom waslike, or Kevin was like, oh well
, we can save this.
And she's like is it quichethat she was making?

Amy (09:33):
I can't remember.
She's like it doesn't keep.
Well, it doesn't keep.
Yeah, she's irritated andthat's where you also hear.
You can hear the big truck nextdoor.
This is where the otherfamilies kind of come in from
the cherry picker.

Garry (09:45):
Right, that's next door.
So I like kind of the crossover.
You hear it, you don't?
I don't think we see it in thatscene.
Well, manny comes running inand he's all upset because Chuck
next door, you know, yeah, andEddie Hanahan is having a bucket
lift or a cherry picker.

Amy (10:01):
Yeah, some people call it.

Garry (10:03):
Delivered so he can get his lights hung up on his house
and he's all mad and everythingand it's like seven 30 in the
morning or something.

Amy (10:10):
I know it's really early, yeah, and all you hear is beep,
beep, beep.

Garry (10:14):
You know, that would annoy me too it would?

Amy (10:16):
it would definitely so.
And then you have, you know,Gabby's trying to tell Kevin
that Katie was mean to her inmiddle school.
Like really mean.
And Kevin, kind of you knowknow, brushes it off a little
bit and he's like you're holdingon to it for too long.
He doesn't tell her to get overit, but he's like look, yeah,
it's been a long time.

Garry (10:37):
He kind of dismisses it a little bit, you know, and so I
don't know gabby's kind of huhyeah she's kind of wondering why
you know her family's notbelieving her, believing her
right because they keep sweepingright things under the table,
these little you know momentswhere uh, katie kind of does

(10:58):
something mean to to gabby togabby yeah gabby's like, oh,
she's still the same, katie, buther family's like, oh, it was
just an accident.

Amy (11:08):
So that and that goes that I think you're referencing.
Then we get to the.
They're going to go cut down atree.

Garry (11:14):
Yes, right, they go get their Christmas tree.
Yeah.

Amy (11:17):
And they go to some you don't know what, you don't know
where they're in the forest, they're just like in a forest.

Garry (11:23):
Yeah, all of a sudden they come across this opening
where there are all theseChristmas trees, right, these
pine trees and, of course, katiehas the chainsaw and she asked
Gabby if she would film it,because it's her first time with
Kevin cutting down a Christmastree.
She's like Stan right here, yeah, right.
So this is one of those moments.
Where is she trying to be niceor is she trying to put one over

(11:46):
on Katie At?

Amy (11:47):
first, Katie tries to pick out the tree, I mean Gabby.
Yeah, katie tries to pick outthe actual tree and Gabby's
parents are like, well, that'skind of Gabby's thing.
So at least they gave Gabbythat, yeah, they gave Gabby that
, and I think there's a momentbefore they cut down the tree,
gabby tries to confront Katieand it's like look, you were

(12:08):
really mean to me in school.
And Katie's like is that how?

Garry (12:10):
you remember it Right.

Amy (12:10):
You know, and then you're like is she a mean girl Like?
is she just trying to be a jerk, like I wasn't really sure.
No, in that moment you know, and Katie's like you know, the
past is the past, let's moveforward.
And then you're kind of like, okay, maybe she realizes it and

(12:35):
doesn't really want to admit itand she's trying to make amends.
So you just, you're just notreally like I was never really
sure, I know which I thought wasgood, you know, for the writing
and everything.
And then you see, before thetree cutting down, you see um
gabby's texting nora, right, right, sheriff, nora, so we get,
you know she said I like how weget that crossover from that
yep yep, yep, so we're kind ofgetting the intersection there
and then they cut the tree down.

Garry (12:53):
Right.
So Katie goes to cut the treedown and she asks Gabby to film
it and she places her in frontof the tree and so, as she's
cutting it down and Gabby'sfilming it, the tree falls on
Gabby, falls right on her, righton her, and you know, and Gabby
automatically knows, that thiswas done on purpose on purpose.

Amy (13:15):
Yep, she was right in the line.

Garry (13:16):
Yeah, the family is like oh, it was an accident it's it's
so funny and it's really wellwritten, with these two
characters going back and forthlike this.
But so now they have the treeand so now they're putting it on
the car and gabby's still kindof upset about all this.
And as they're getting in thecar, the family goes, ask gabby

(13:40):
to you know, open the fence.

Amy (13:42):
And close the gate the gate when they drive out so
reluctantly.

Garry (13:47):
Gabby does that and how she doing it.
She looks over and she sees asign, so she goes to brush the
branches away from the sign andlo and behold, it's like an area
where they're replanting trees.

Amy (14:05):
Right, and they're not supposed to be on there.
Cutting down trees isprohibited or something.

Garry (14:10):
And you're like, oh Well, even Gabby's like, hmm, you
know she took to be on there.
It's like cutting down trees isprohibited, or something, and
you're like, oh Well evenGabby's like hmm.

Amy (14:13):
You know, she took us here on purpose.

Garry (14:15):
It's logging and cutting, strictly prohibited, Yep.
So that's when you start to go.
Oh, maybe Katie is.
She's still that little meangirl.

Amy (14:26):
Now does she have like sap in her hair and stuff.

Garry (14:28):
Yes, she's got like sap in her hair and stuff.

Amy (14:30):
Yes, she's got like stuff in her hair.
So Katie's a hairdresser, hairstylist, so she offers to do
her hair and of course theparents are like oh it's a great
idea.

Garry (14:44):
And Gabby's like I don't know.
That's right.

Amy (14:45):
So they go to Katie's what to salon.

Garry (14:49):
Yeah, her salon.

Amy (14:50):
And then that's where you see like a side of Katie where
she's basically like Mean girlyeah, she's mean girl, she's,
she's like she.
She tells her what she's goingto fight for, what she wants.
She tells her to get on theKatie Kevin train or she'll be
all alone.
She tells Gabby that, yeah, butthen you know she basically is
like you know we're going to betogether and you need to get on

(15:11):
board, or you know.

Garry (15:12):
You're going to be the outcast.

Amy (15:13):
You know you're going to be the outcast of your own family,
but what was interesting, youknow, and Gabby's kind of like
okay.

Garry (15:20):
I know.

Amy (15:21):
So when Gabby walks away, though, Katie actually looks
upset.

Garry (15:25):
Yeah.

Amy (15:25):
It's like she felt like she had to do that Right.

Garry (15:27):
It's like she felt like she had to do that Right,
because she wanted to know whyshe feels like Gabby is
sabotaging Kevin's or Kevin andhers relationship.

Amy (15:35):
Relationship yeah, so yeah.

Garry (15:37):
And you know, she knows she has a side of her and in
that moment she doesn't feellike, oh God, what did I just do
?

Amy (15:45):
Yeah, she's trying to put up this front.

Garry (15:46):
I mean Katie.
Yeah, she's trying to put upthis front.

Amy (15:49):
You mean Katie.
Yeah, she's trying to put upthis front and to be this, like
you know, badass or whatever.

Garry (15:52):
Right.

Amy (15:52):
Like you're not going to get in the way of us, and really
she's.
She just wants to be acceptedbecause she's having her own
issues Right With her family, with her family, right.

Garry (16:00):
So Speaking of her family , her family, yeah.
That's where.
We get to see Kevin walk overto Chuck in his garage.

Amy (16:11):
Chuck Minetti, hanahan.
Yes.

Garry (16:14):
And he's asking Chuck for Katie's hand in marriage.
Right yeah, and Chuck goes intothis long.
I was a veteran, I did sometours in Iraq and all this other
stuff, so he's a war veteranand he ends up going no.

Amy (16:33):
No, yeah, he says no, you can't.
So I thought that was slight, you can't have a hand in
marriage.
I know it's like, well, what doyou do?
You know?

Garry (16:40):
Well, you do what Kevin did.
You kind of shrug and turnaround and walk back home.

Amy (16:45):
Okay, bye Over to your side .
Bye-bye, see you later now.
It was so sad because it's likeWell, and for Chuck, it's all
about the family rivalry.

Garry (16:54):
Right, right, because he can't stand Kevin's parents.

Amy (16:57):
Yeah, because they're always mad that he's putting up
lights, putting up all thelights and everything he does go
overboard.

Garry (17:02):
He does the Griswold thing, but Right, they're
actually really nice lights.

Amy (17:08):
Well, there's probably more to it.
We just don't know yet kind ofwhat's happened, Because don't
they allude to something fromthe previous year?

Garry (17:16):
I don't know so yeah, we'll get to that.
Yeah, and so it cuts back toGabby, who calls Nora again,
nora, yep.

Amy (17:24):
This is where we get the crossover About Katie again, yep
, yep.

Garry (17:27):
Sheriff Nora, played by Aaron Cato and Gabby, receives a
notification of a picture thatKatie posted of the tree falling
on her when they cut down theChristmas tree.

Amy (17:37):
Oh yes, that was on like social media or something.

Garry (17:39):
Social media, yes, and she had put a green face on
Gabby and just kind of made somemean memes.
Mean memes.

Amy (17:47):
Mean memes.
Yes, that's right, that's right, that's right that really upset
, uh, gabby and then I I thinkkatie tried to justify it.
She's like I'm just trying tohelp you and gabby's like I went
to cordon bleu.
You know I don't need your help, right?

Garry (18:01):
you know, in cordon bleu is like the with her famous like
cooking right yeah like in isthat in france, or is that?

Amy (18:07):
I think, so I don't know yeah and then um and Gabby
intentionally they're in thekitchen with Katie.
There's the scene where they'retrying to make something.

Garry (18:16):
Yeah.

Amy (18:16):
And Gabby intentionally starts the blender with the lid
not on Right and it goes allover, katie.

Garry (18:25):
Well Katie had.
Did she throw something at herfirst or hit her in the face
with something I can't remember?
I don't remember, but yes inthe face with something I can't
remember.
I don't remember, but yes, soyeah, because katie's putting
stuff in a blender and you seegabby go to plug in the blender
and all of a sudden, it justgoes all over, katie, and she's
like hmm yeah, I thought thatwas funny.

(18:46):
I mean, that's, they are going, they are going at it with their
little yeah, yeah.

Amy (18:52):
And then you know, then you see Gabby's making dinner, yeah
, and she starts to sabotage thedinner.

Garry (19:03):
Yeah, she sees a little.
I guess it's a jalapeno, a hotPepper, hot, a hot pepper.
No, it's a red pepper.
It's a red pepper, All right.
And yeah, you find out that, yeah, the tricks are still going
on.
So during dinner, Kevin wantsto propose to.

Amy (19:22):
Katie.

Garry (19:25):
And then Gabby realizes oh crap, you know I'm going to
ruin this because I put this hotpepper in her, whatever tamale
or whatever she's eating, right?
And so as Kevin gets up andgoes, get on one knee to to
propose.
You could see the sweat startto pour.

Amy (19:44):
That was pretty funny.

Garry (19:45):
On Katie yeah, she, she's taken a bite of the tamale or
whatever, and she's just sittingthere sweating and her eyes are
getting red and you can seeGabby she's.
Oh my God, I can't believe Idid this right.
I'm ruining their.

Amy (20:01):
She's feeling.

Garry (20:02):
Remorse for her Again she's feeling remorse.

Amy (20:04):
Yeah, about sabotaging Katie's dinner.

Garry (20:08):
And then so he proposes to her and then she and then
Katie goes yes, and then shegrabs this pitcher of water and
just chugs it down.
Yeah, it was a good scene, andeverybody looks at Manny, I
think he moves the tamale andsees the red pepper there, yes,
and he looks at Gabby, and nowthey're all mad at.

Amy (20:25):
Gabby.
Now they all know that sheprobably did that on purpose,
yes, and then I think that'swhen you know Gabby's trying to
convince her parents just howmuch Katie affected her in their
teenage years.
And her parents really don't.

Garry (20:40):
They don't get it.
They don't get it yet.

Amy (20:42):
Right.
So then we see the flashback tothe science fair.

Garry (20:46):
Yeah, yep, yep.
And then I think Gabby showsNora the video of her presenting
her science project in school.

Amy (20:56):
Right, right, it's called.

Garry (20:58):
Easy Bake and Nora tells Gabby you know, you either
forgive her or you know let itgo.
Forgive her, and but she justcan't.

Amy (21:09):
But she, yeah, and you.
You see that Katie was the onewho started it.

Garry (21:14):
Right.

Amy (21:14):
Like in that, in that flat in that video.
Yes, you see that Katie was theone who started it Right.
Like in that video.
Yes, you see that I forget whatKatie just called her easy bake
.
Right and then the whole crowdstarted chanting it.

Garry (21:25):
Right, right, like over and over and over again.

Amy (21:28):
Yeah, and Nora gives her some good advice.
It was kind of cool.

Garry (21:31):
Yeah, I'm glad to see.
Yeah, I like how they'rebringing in the characters from
the other episodes.
Yeah, it's really good.
And then you.
The next scene is gabby goes toapologize to katie for ruining
the proposal well, she tellskevin, I'm gonna make it right
yeah like I'm so sorry.

Amy (21:49):
Yeah, you know, I know I've been, you know, out of sorts
and I'm gonna try to make itright.
So, gabby's, you know she'sfluctuating between how she felt
in the past and how thosefeelings are still kind of there
, but she's trying to moveforward.
So, then she's going to go andtalk to Gabby.

Garry (22:05):
Right.
And so Gabby tells Katie aboutwhen they were kids, how she
hurt her yeah, how Katie hurther when she was doing her
science project and called hereasy bait.
And then Katie is like, uh,really, that's how you saw this.
She goes.
Well, I was hurt too, yeah.

(22:26):
And then, uh, gabby was like, well, what do you mean?
You were hurt, she goes.
We used to be best friends.
We used to be together all thetime You'd come over my house.
Used to be best friends, weused to be together all the time
you'd come over my house.
We'd go to school.
And then, when the the smartkids, when you joined their
group, you left me behind, yeah.
So now you know the reasonbehind katie's, you know not?

Amy (22:48):
I don't want to say hatred, but jealousy of how gabby
dropped her right and went withthe geeks, dropped her like a
hot pancake right and just movedon to so, so they both felt
some sort of way right you know, and they're still and katie's
still kind of holding on to thattoo a little bit right, like
you dumped me so I got you backyes, that was.

Garry (23:10):
That was why what it was the easy bake thing happened,
and so they.

Amy (23:15):
but what's great is they kind of you know, they talk
about it, they make amends,right.

Garry (23:21):
Right.

Amy (23:22):
And then they kind of get excited because Katie's put like
wedding things on the wall.

Garry (23:28):
On the wall right and doesn't she ask Gabby?
To cook for her.
Yeah, she wants her to makecake for her.
Wants to make a cake.

Amy (23:34):
So they're really getting along Right.
So now you're like, ok, they've, they've mended their
relationship, it's going to begreat.
And then they go downstairs.

Garry (23:44):
And the family is watching the video.

Amy (23:46):
Kevin and his parents are watching the video and they had
no idea that Katie was the onewho started it, right?

Garry (23:51):
They did not know that.

Amy (23:51):
Katie was the one who started it Right.
They did not know that she wasthe instigator Right.

Garry (23:58):
Of all of it, right, yeah , and Katie tries, or Gabby
tries, to say no, it's OK.
You know, it's all right, we'vemade up.
You know I forgive her, but thefamily doesn't.
And so Katie goes, runs out thehouse and right.
And Katie tries to say I'm notthat person anymore.

Amy (24:18):
I'm, you know I've changed and I mean I thought it was kind
of.
I mean I know the family knowshow much that affected gabby,
but at the same time they don'tknow for kevin to say right, you
know, we're done, we're done,we're done, without hearing her
side of the story.

Garry (24:38):
Even when Gabby was saying, no, it's okay.

Amy (24:41):
We've talked, we've made up .
We're both at fault here.

Garry (24:45):
You know we hashed it out , but yeah.
So she goes running out of thehouse upset and Kevin, you know
he's's upset, the family's upsetright, and now they have to get
ready for the holiday strollwhich is this is the first time
I heard it called that yeah, theholiday.
Did they call it that earlier?
They did, I just didn't pick upon that until this episode.

Amy (25:07):
I've been calling it like the christmas festival or
whatever and I'm like oh duh,it's called the holiday stroll
so they're all getting ready.

Garry (25:12):
They say it in each episode.

Amy (25:13):
Huh, I think they say it in each episode.
They do, they probably do, andI just duh Anyway.

Garry (25:17):
So yeah, so Kevin is playing Santa, so.

Amy (25:19):
Kevin plays Santa and he's very depressed Right.
So they all they go to theHoliday Stroll.

Garry (25:38):
So now we're at the festival where everybody ends up
at some right and then, um,kevin is.

Amy (25:40):
He's a really depressed santa and katie shows up yes,
because she was supposed to bemrs claus up on the stage with
him.
Yes, and she gives back thering to him.
And then chuck tries to goafter kevin in the santa suit
right, and don't they kind oftussle a?

Garry (25:52):
little bit.
They tussle and knock thesnowman down, yeah, down.
And so they're laying on theground.

Amy (25:59):
And they're.

Garry (26:01):
I mean, what a scene, right, it's always something
with them two, oh my gosh andthen.

Amy (26:05):
so then you cut to, we're back at the house at the
Camarena house and it's rainingand Gabby's starting to make.
She starts to make her auditionvideo and you know she's upset
and she's almost crying and thenshe's like cutting up whatever
she's cooking and she cutsherself Right, right and then um

(26:28):
what were you gonna say?

Garry (26:30):
Well, when, when they got back to the house, gabby had
asked where all the presentswere for Katie, because Katie
had brought a whole bunch ofpresents over.

Amy (26:37):
Oh, that's right, that's right.

Garry (26:38):
And there was a lot of presents for her.
And then Manny and Clarice werelike, oh, you know we just we
got rid of them.

Amy (26:45):
Because they're mad at her Right.
They're mad at.

Garry (26:47):
Katie Right For what they did to her daughter.

Amy (26:49):
To Gabby yeah.
And then, yes, that's whenGabby tries to do her audition
tape again, right, oh right, because she's like let's play
games, let's, yeah.
She tries to make it lively, yeah Right.

Garry (27:04):
And they all go.
No, we're not in the moodanymore.

Amy (27:07):
Right.
So that's right, that's right.
That's sad when she starts tomake her video and she's upset.

Garry (27:14):
She's upset.

Amy (27:14):
She's like we all make mistakes, right, because we're
all human, yeah, and then shetakes a shot and the power goes
out, and so now we're at thesame spot as everyone.
She says, worst Christmas ever.

Garry (27:32):
So what was?
Your tinsel top moment in thisone.

Amy (27:35):
Oh gosh, you know my tinsel top moment, I think, would have
to be when Gabby and Katie makeamends.

Garry (27:47):
Mine's usually about the communication Once you talk
about it, and you realize theother person was hurt just as
much as they were.

Amy (27:53):
Yeah, you know.
I mean you realize quickly thatcommunication is key.
I mean everybody always saysthat and it's really true.
They went all this time If theyhad just talked about it they
would have realized each one ofthem was hurt, although I would
argue that Gabby probably livedwith it.
You know it was worse for Gabby.

(28:13):
Yeah, honestly.

Garry (28:19):
Well, I mean, I would think it was worse for both of
them, because when you have afriend like that and they all
all of a sudden don't hang outwith you anymore, because
they're with the smart kids, because Gabby was smart, she or
whoever you're with another, another group of yeah, and you
just feel like oh OK, I guessI'm not good enough.

Amy (28:32):
No, I'm not saying that she wasn't hurt, I'm just saying
that.
But the public humiliation forGabby, I think, is a greater
obstacle.
And then they called her easybake for the rest of her life.

Garry (28:45):
Well, her school, her school.

Amy (28:47):
Years.

Garry (28:47):
Even into her adult.
Yes, but yeah, that was mytinsel top moment too it would
be yeah, because it was such agood scene and I love how they
did afterwards they hugged itout and then they were like well
, let's look at your pictures.
You did a really good job.

Amy (29:03):
Oh yeah, when she had the pictures on the wall.

Garry (29:05):
Color coordination and all that stuff.
So out of five ornaments, howmany would you hang on this tree
?
I would hang five.

Amy (29:12):
Yes, how many would you hang on this tree?
I would hang five.

Garry (29:14):
Yes.

Amy (29:15):
I just love the series.
I know it's really good.

Garry (29:16):
I love the way it's going .

Amy (29:17):
I love the way that we see tidbits of the other families.
Yes, I love the crossover alittle bit.
I just I love the weaving ofthe stories Right, all of them
and they're kind of hittingdifferent.
You know themes in each familyand now we have one more family,
yes, and then we have the finalepisode, which I presume we're
going to see everybody again.

Garry (29:39):
Yes, like the first episode.

Amy (29:40):
So I'm kind of excited to see where it all goes and where
it lands.
So we'll see.
Yeah, is that a wrap?
That's a wrap.
