Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's one last strategy for you to employ.
So, like Anita said, you don'thave time or maybe weren't able
to prepare ahead of time andhave that cabbage or that
broccoli pre-chopped.
There is still hope.
There is still a way to salvageall of this.
Anytime you have a cookedcruciferous, there is a simple
ingredient you can sprinkle overtop of it, and that is.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hey sister, welcome to the Power on Plants podcast.
Are you tired of staring intothe fridge wondering what to eat
so you can just feel better?
Do you want to avoid spendinghours in the kitchen making
complicated meals in the name ofhealth?

energy to do all the things youwant to do?
Hi, we're Jared and AnitaRoussel, christ followers,

(00:42):
health care professionals, parents of four and big fans of
great tasting food.
We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods,
but we still found ourselvesstruggling with what we thought
were changes that come with ageor bad genes, and we weren't
finding answers the traditionalroute.
So we dug into the research andcreated our secret nutritional

(01:03):
weapon sustainable plant-basedliving.
The truth is, you can eat morewhole plant foods and it's not
hard.
You just need the way.
That's realistic and deliciousso you never feel deprived.
If you're ready to enjoy yourmeals, no longer be held back by
your health struggles andactively live your life, then
you're in the right place.

(01:24):
So grab your favoriteplant-based cup of happy pop in
those earbuds and let's getstarted.
Hey, sunshine, this episode isfor you if you're excited about
living for God, but you findyour energy lagging as you
struggle to juggle your dailyroutine the children, the
schedules, the meal prep, thetraffic and building, or even

(01:47):
growing your business.
What if I told you the secretto thriving isn't another latte,
but something easily accessibleat your local grocery store or
your farmer's market?
Today we're diving into God'sgenius design for broccoli and
its veggie cousins, likeBrussels sprouts and kale and
cabbage.
Scientists confirm thatcruciferous vegetables fight

(02:10):
fatigue and boost your brainpower, and even help you to
prevent major disease, especially if you prep them the
right way.
So in this episode, we're goingto show you exactly how to do
just that, so you can furtheroptimize your nutrition to feel
great and actively enjoy eachand every day you've been given.
That's what it's all about,right?

(02:31):
That's why Jared and I are sopassionate about doing what we
do.
So let's dive into.
What are these cruciferousvegetables?
What makes them such energyboosting gifts from God?
What's in there?
Well, truth be told, we're justscratching the surface of
what's actually in there, because we've talked about this
before.
If you've been around here longenough, you've heard us talk
about it, and it's so true, andwe need to never forget the fact

(02:54):
that many I mean tens ofthousands of nutrients in these
beautiful whole plant foods havealready been discovered by
scientists that haven't yet beennamed because there's so many
of them and they're still tryingto wrap their minds around the
fact of what they do know.
And that's not even referringto the hundreds of thousands

(03:14):
maybe more than that healthboosting nutrients that are in
whole plant foods that haven'teven been seen or discovered yet
.
Like we're spending our timeworrying about non little
nutrients and advertising makesus psycho about those things,
and really the fact is we needto not worry so much about that,
but think about what do we knowis in these foods.

(03:35):
Learn more about the fact thatthese are the foods that are the
most nutrient, rich, lowcalorie foods on the planet.
So we don't have to countcalories, we don't have to diet,
we don't have to do all thiscrazy stuff, and these foods
actually do prevent and evenreverse the most common diseases
of our time.
And this is one of the things, just one of the things that we

(03:55):
know is inside these cruciferousveggies, which are again things
like broccoli and Brusselssprouts and cabbages and kale,
these wonderful cruciferous thathelp us to feel better by
supporting detox and protectingour brain health and even
helping to reduce cancer risk.
It's a known fact aboutcruciferous that they do all

(04:18):
these amazing things, and so Iwant you here to share a little
bit about one of the things.
Just one of the things wrapyour mouth around that that's
inside these amazing cruciferousvegetables that you need to be
getting on the daily.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Isn't it amazing, as much as we know, there's so much
that we don't know still yet,so much and that we're still
discovering, and that's why theimportant thing is just eat your
veggies.
Yes, eat your fruits Eat yourfruits, eat your berries, get
them.
And then, as we learn more, then you can say you know what
Mama was right Eat your broccoli, eat your beans, it's all good

(04:54):
for you.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Well, the miracle molecule inside of the
cruciferous is One of themiracle molecules, well, one of
them.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
But the guest star for today's show is sulforaphane
.
Now, this is the active form ofa molecule called glucoraphanin
.
Glucoraphanin is how it starts.
There's an enzyme inside of thecruciferous called myrosinase.
Myrosinase convertsglucoraphanin into sulforaphane.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
So in case you don't know or you weren't a science
major enzymes break things down.
That's what they do.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
They help guide chemical reactions in a specific
way and in this specific case, glucoraphanin gets converted to
sulforaphane by the enzyme bythe enzyme.
Now the enzyme is not heatstable, meaning if it gets
heated it gets cooked, steamed, whatever it breaks down.
It gets heated, it gets cooked, steamed, whatever it breaks

(05:47):
down.
It can't do its job.
So then glucoraphanin stayspoor, sad little glucoraphanin.
It doesn't get converted intosulforaphane.
Now, glucoraphanin andsulforaphane are both heat
stable.
So if the glucoraphanin getsconverted into sulforaphane and
then that food gets cooked, it'sstable.
It will remain there.
So when you eat the food it isavailable.
Now this is important becausewe want you to be able to

(06:12):
optimize the amount ofsulforaphane that you get in
your body.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yes, absolutely.
It's so very important.
So we're going to give you somestrategies to make this super
simple, so that you're going toget the maximum amount of
nutrients from these diseasereversing foods.
We want you to be flooded withthese things when you eat them.
You want to get the maximumamount out of it, right?

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Especially if the strategies are simple and they
are so simple.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
They're so simple and I want to break this down first
because God makes it so verysimple.
Number one we're not eatingenough raw, right?
The foods were made for us towalk up to the tree, pick it and
eat it Eat it raw.
So this is why, when we findthat we cook things, the enzyme
gets wiped out that converts thegood stuff to the great stuff,
and therefore it doesn't getconverted because the enzyme is

(06:58):
denatured, it's warped, it'stwisted in a way that is no
longer able to work.
But when you eat them raw andyou chew well, because you have
to chew your food well if you donot chew plant foods, well,
what happens?
The cell wall remains intact.
And if the cell wall remainsintact, what happens?
All the great nutrients arelocated on the inside of the

(07:20):
cell, beyond the cell wall, andso you're not breaking them out,
busting it open to get all thegreatness that's on the inside.
So it's very important that youchew your food.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
You're not releasing them properly.
Exactly, and that is strategynumber one Chew well, and I
would like to highlight thepoint, there are so many
vegetables that, yes, you caneat them raw.
You do not have to cook them, you do not have to steam them,
you can but broccoli, cauliflower, kale and Brussels
sprouts.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
They can be eaten and enjoyed raw and really it's the
simplest way.
You talk about all the time howyou don't have time for this,
you don't have time to behealthy, you don't have time not
this.
You don't have time to behealthy, you don't have time.
You don't have time not to.
And it doesn't have to takelong when you know how.
And eating raw is one of thesimplest ways.
We're not telling you you haveto eat everything raw, but what
we're telling you is you shouldbe eating more raw Because right

(08:10):
there, you're going to cut outthe need for even some of the
strategies we're going to besharing with you.
When you do want to eat cooked, you won't even have to use
these because you're eating rawand you're chewing your food
well, and right there you cutout the need for the extra
strategies.
It's crazy.
So I'd say strategy number twois eating raw.
You say number one is chewing.
Well, two is eating more raw.
I mean because right thereyou're set.

(08:30):
But if you're not eating as muchraw and say, let's just say I
really want some cooked broccoli, I really want some steamed
broccoli, but I now know thatwhen I cook it, it's going to
break down the enzyme that'sgoing to create or release
sulforaphane right, and I knowfrom research studies that that
is a molecule that's going tohelp me feel better, that is
going to heal my body, that'sgoing to help prevent and even

(08:53):
reverse things, and that'saccording to the research
studies it's just going to makeme feel better, right?
So when you want to cook yourfood, is there something you can
do to cause this conversion tostill happen, even though the
enzyme is?

Speaker 1 (09:08):
going to be denatured .

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yes, Isn't that exciting?
There is still something youcan do.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yes.
So our third strategy is thechop and wait method.
So if you cut the food but doit in advance, you give time for
that chemical reaction to takeplace within the food.
So, like with cabbage, ifyou're going to saute it, which
we have done in the past, butyou want to cut into thin strips
, cut it, let it sit for upwardsof 40 minutes, and then you're

(09:33):
going to give time for thatchemical process to take place,
and I really think it's becausethese foods were created to be
chewed and chewed well.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
So we're basically chewing it with the knife or
cutting through it, and thatcutting, or that chewing which
would normally be chewing rightif you're eating it raw that
cutting is going to activate theenzyme to convert the
glucoraphanin to sulforaphane.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Isn't that amazing.
And then, once the sulforaphaneis created, then it's stable.
You can cook it and it won'tdegrade.
It won't go anywhere except foryour mouth and into your belly.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
So this strategy is simply cutting your cruciferous
vegetables, chopping them 40minutes before you cook them.
That gives the enzyme time tobe activated and create the
sulforaphane that is going tohelp your body to heal and make
you feel better, so that you cando all the things that you want
to do.

(10:24):
And this is just one simplestrategy.
Imagine adding another strategy, and another strategy, and
another strategy.
These are things that are sosimple and you're so busy and I
get it and you want to know whatdo I do now?
This is going to make a bigdifference for me.
Well, this is one thing that'sgoing to make a huge difference
Are you eating these things?
That's question number one.
If you're not eating cruciferouson the daily, you need to be

(10:47):
eating cruciferous every singleday.
You don't have to eat broccolievery day.
You don't have to eatcauliflower every day.
You don't have to eat Brusselssprouts every day or cabbage
every day, but you need to beeating one of those every day.
Look up cruciferous.
There are more than what we'rementioning here.
Pull in those veggies.
Think about do I eat them everyday?
If not, this is one reason whyI'm not feeling my best.

(11:08):
It is going to make all thedifference for you.
That's step number one eat morecruciferous.
Step number two eat more raw.
Step number three chew them.
Well, step number four chewthem with a knife.
That simply means cut them up40 minutes before you want to
eat them, to activate thatenzyme that's going to create
the sulforaphane that is goingto heal your body.
Isn't this exciting?
There's so many things that youcan do.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
It is exciting because they're easy.
They don't really changeanything, they're not any extra
work, but they optimize what isalready there on your plate.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Now can I blow your mind even farther.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Oh, please do.
I think I know where you'regoing.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
What if you're a busy woman?
We are, we are right.
Maybe you've just started yourbusiness, maybe you're wanting
to grow your business to thenext level, but you can't
because you're exhausted all thetime and you think you don't
have time to make healthy mealsand do all these things for
yourself.
Well, the truth is you don'thave time to make healthy meals
and do all these things foryourself.
Well, the truth is you don'thave time not to, because you're
your number one asset.
You, you are your number oneasset, so you need to take care

(12:06):
of you.
But I want to show you howsimple this can be.
So if you think I don't need itraw, even though that's the
quickest and easiest way to eatit, and you think I really want
some steamed broccoli,cauliflower, cruciferous,
whatever it is, I don't havetime to chop it up and wait 40
minutes.
Okay, well, you could chop itthe night before.
You could have a child chop itor a spouse chop it for you, or
you could simply buy it prechopped from the store or from a

(12:29):
local salad bar.
There is always a way.
Don't convince yourself, or letthe enemy convince you.
Hey, this is too hard for you,it's not going to work for you,
because the truth is, this isgoing to be one of the biggest
mindset shifts for some of youthat are listening to this
episode right now.
I promise you it is because theenemy has been holding you back

(12:50):
just by stinking thinking bythe things and the thoughts that
he's put in your mind like thisis too hard for you and it's
not going to work for you.
You don't have time to gethealthy because you've got all
these things that you've learnedabout your business and setting
your business up and raising afamily the way you want to and
homeschooling them, and allthese different things that
you're involved in that you wantto get to the next level, that
you want to prove yourselffaithful into the father.

(13:11):
The problem is you don't feellike it because you're
constantly dealing with anever-growing list of health
struggles.
I is the fact that it's nothard.
There's always a way.
There's always a way and we'rehere to show you how I mean.
We love doing that.

(13:32):
That's our thing.
That's why we have Accelerator.
If you think I've got to havesomebody, take me by the hand to
the next step.
What do I do?
Step by step by step, so I'mnot wasting my time at the
doctor's office standing inpharmaceutical lines trying to
figure out the next diagnosisand googling what's wrong with
me.
Wasting all these days.
I don't feel good and I can'tfully be productive.

(13:53):
Right, when you value yourselfand you understand and stop
listening to the lies of theenemy but finally understand God
has put everything in the rightfoods to heal my body.
If someone could just comealong and show me what are those
foods, how do I easily combinethose foods and not only make it
simple and the fastest I'veever cooked, but that I actually

(14:13):
love so much?
I never feel deprived and I'malways, always loving the way
that I eat.
That's what Accelerator is allabout.
It's our five-step signaturesystem that we walk you through
step by step by step.
We even take you into thekitchen and show you in the
kitchen videos of this is how weprepare this, and I do a
grocery store walkthrough withyou and show you okay, this is

(14:34):
what we buy at the grocery storeand here's how you read the
labels.
And then I walk you through ourpantry.
These are the things we buy.
This is where we buy them.
It just makes it such a nobrainer and so easy for you and
we're showing you things likeokay, here's how you optimize
the nutrients from thisvegetable, like we're showing
you today.
It's not hard.
You just need someone to showyou how, who truly has found the

(14:57):
joy in this way of living andhas freed up their lives because
they've gained all their energyback.
They've gained their clearthinking back and now we don't
spend all our time trying tofigure out how do I get healthy.
We're just walking in thethings that we know and it's
making all the difference.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
And the value of the community aspect of accelerator
cannot be expressed enoughBecause, like today, we've said,
maybe you don't know how to dothis, but it doesn't mean
somebody else hasn't figured outa way to make these vegetables
faster but still retaining allthe nutrients in there.
So there is a way, even thoughyou may not know it.
But what if you're in acommunity and you could quickly

(15:36):
ask hey, does somebody know howI can maybe make the broccoli
more healthy?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yes, somebody is going to chime up, and if it's
not somebody else, then us, andwe are there every step of the
way and I promise you thathappens more when you take two
seconds that you don't think youhave to just pop a picture on
there of what you did to sharewith somebody else.
It is going to make thistreasure trove of a place where
you can go everything searchableinside our communities.

(16:00):
It's incredible how we'vecreated this for you so that it
doesn't just disappear down thefeed like inside Facebook, in
Accelerator and Inside Alumni, which is our graduation program.
For those who have gottenthrough Accelerator, it's the
only way you can really workwith us, either inside
Accelerator or graduating fromit and coming into our deeper
dive inside Alumni, and that'swhere you get all our recipes

(16:23):
hot off the presses and we gointo the deeper things.
Once you've established thatsolid foundation inside
Accelerator and you're alreadythriving and feeling amazing and
walking these things out stepby step.
But you come in there and youhave this community.
Like Jared said, it's not justus sharing what we know.
You're sharing with each otherand everybody that's ever been
in there.
Everything they've ever postedis also searchable for you.

(16:46):
So it's not just yourcontemporaries that are in there
with you right now, it'severyone who's ever gone through
our programs.
All these things are saved.
They don't disappear down thefeed.
They're all searchable for you.
It is amazing, and this is thekind of thing that is going to
change everything for you.
This is why, when we work withclients, we consistently see

(17:07):
high blood pressure coming backto normal, people coming off
their medications, working withtheir doctor and working with us
.
People coming off of theircholesterol medications because
they no longer have highcholesterol.
People no longer having IBS,crohn's disease, people no
longer having rheumatoidarthritis, no longer having
prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

(17:28):
Gone I'm talking gone likethings you were told you to have
for life.
Gone, just with these simplechanges.
So, yes, you're learning a lotof steps of how to get the most
out of cruciferous today, butthese are the types of things
that you're going to learn onthe regular inside of
accelerator in a way that's notgoing to bog you down.
It's not going to be a theregular inside of accelerator in
a way that's not going to bogyou down.

(17:49):
It's not going to be a lot offluff and stuff that doesn't
matter.
We don't believe in fluff.
I don't have time for that.
You don't have time for that.
This is how do I do it.
What do I do?
Show me the way to make it thesimplest for me, because maybe
you prefer to go and buy yourbroccoli pre chopped at the
store.
Someone else drives by thisrestaurant that consistently has
pre-chopped cruciferous andit's much easier for them to

(18:11):
just go in there and get atakeout container and take it
home to make their stir fry.
Right, and some people are likeI just like to chop it 40
minutes before I'm going toprepare dinner, right after I
come in the door, and I just letit sit while I'm doing my other
stuff and then I'm going to gostir fry it or have my kids do
it or my husband.
There's so many ways.
We're just scratching thesurface here on this one thing.

(18:33):
Wrap your mind around howaccelerator is going to change
your life.
Go right now and get yourselfon the wait list, because the
doors are opening soon.
This is one decision you arenot going to regret.
So go to poweronplantscomforward, slash accelerator and
join the wait list.
Or if it's open and you'reblessed that it's open, because
it only opens a couple of timesa year get in, because if you

(18:56):
start today, think where you'regoing to be by the time the next
door's open.
You're going to be so far downthe road you're going to think
why has someone not told me thisstuff before?

Speaker 1 (19:04):
I know exactly where you're going to be.
You're going to be an alumni.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
It makes all the difference because you get your
questions answered and wherethey're coaching you weekly live
coaching calls.
We're in there every dayanswering questions.
It is a serious no brainer andit is going to change things for
you.
Do this for yourself.
But we got to get back to thebroccoli because I want to wrap
this up for you.
I mean, there's so manydifferent ways.

(19:29):
Can you just see the multitudeof ways that you can do this and
increase the nutritionalcontent of just one of the
things that's on the inside inthe simplest, quickest and most
effective way possible for you?
For you, because this is abouttailoring it for you.
We give you the frameworks, wegive you the reasoning so that

(19:50):
you can say, boom, that's it.
I know how.
Now I'm going to take this one, because it works better for me
to stop here versus going there, and it changes everything for
you.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
And there's one last strategy for you to employ.
So, like Anita said, you don'thave time or maybe weren't able
to prepare ahead of time andhave that cabbage or that
broccoli pre-chopped, there isstill hope.
There is still a way to salvageall of this.
Anytime you have a cookedcruciferous, there is a simple
ingredient you can sprinkle overtop of it, and that is mustard

(20:19):
powder.
A quarter teaspoon of mustardpowder, because mustards are a
cruciferous, so it hasmyrosinase in it.
That's the enzyme, right?
That's the enzyme.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
So if you add it after the fact.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Now you would want to let the food cool.
You're not going to put it inthere while it's boiling,
because that would thendeactivate the myrosinase.
But if you add it after thefact, it can add a little flavor
, but it also adds themyrosinase, and then you salvage
the sulforaphane and that canactually bump up the level of
sulforaphane by four times.
Four times that's huge.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
So what's one thing you can do with this tip?
You can make sure you alwayshave mustard powder in your
pantry, in your spice rack, organic mustard powder.
Pick some up.
It's super inexpensive for thehealth benefit that you're going
to get from it when yousprinkle it on there.
So what Jared's saying is youdon't even have to worry about
the cutting of it.
If you like the flavor ofmustard powder and you want to

(21:11):
sprinkle some of that on yourcooled cooked food, it has the
enzyme in it because it is acruciferous.
It already naturally has theenzyme in it that will create
the sulforaphane.
So there you go, sprinkle onthe mustard powder.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
A perfect example might be if you had the idea for
making sauteed cabbage but yougot home late.
You didn't have that 40 minutesto be able to chop it up ahead
of time.
So then you chop it, saute it,let it cool, then sprinkle the
mustard powder on it.
Problem solved.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Friend, we pray that you may enjoy good health.
Fueling your body well honorsGod and it equips you to serve
optimally At mealtime.
You're not just eatingbreakfast, lunch or dinner.
You're either missing out onthe nutrients you need or you're
fueling your body optimally soit empowers you to actively live
your God given purpose.

(22:02):
