Well, this episode is for youbecause your tea might be

missing a secret sidekick, andtoday we're going to fix that.
Here's the thing Green tea andmatcha are great for you, and
one reason is because they'repacked with catechins like EGCG,
which are very powerfulantioxidants that fight
inflammation, fight cancer,boost brain health and even help

you burn fat naturally.
Who doesn't love that?
But studies show that theseantioxidants often get destroyed
in your gut before they can getused by your body, unless you
pair them with their ultimatewingman, which studies have
identified, and I want Jared totell you what is the ultimate

The supreme sidekick is vitamin C, but not just any
vitamin C, vitamin C from wholeplant foods.
Imagine that.
Imagine that.
Who would have thunk it right?
But vitamin C from places likecitrus fruits could be lemon,
could be lime, could be greenleafies, could be bell pepper.
Any natural source of vitamin Cis going to be better.

And what does it do?
It helps to protect thecatechins, which are things like
EGCG.
There are a few others that arein that category, but it helps
to protect them when they're inthat digestive environment in
our GI tract, so that way theystay around longer, they get
absorbed and then they can havetheir health benefits.

So the catechins, like EGCG, are located inside
the green tea or matcha, right?
So you're saying when we pairthese two things green tea or
matcha which, by the way, youshould be drinking these every
single day and, don't worry,we're going to show you ways to

But these amazing antioxidantsare in green tea and matcha and
you can actually boost theamount of them by just pairing

your green tea and matcha withvitamin C and, as Jared says,
the studies show when thatvitamin C comes from whole plant
foods, it greatly boosts theamount of these antioxidants
that are available to beabsorbed from the green tea and
the matcha.
It's so exciting and how simplethese things are to do.

And it may be tempting to say well, what if I
just take a vitamin C supplementwhen I have my cup of green tea
?
Well, that's been studied andit helped, but did not do nearly
as well as the whole plantfoods.

No, we don't.

help you, so we want you to eatthe foods, when you can, that
are available, that have a highpotency of these nutrients that,
when you get them together, aregoing to literally fuel your
body well, and in this case it'sgreen tea mixed with vitamin C.

So how do you make this work inreal life situations when
you're a busy woman or busy manon the go and you're trying to
feel your absolute best?
Here are two real lifestrategies you can use to get
more nutrients out of your greentea every single time that you
actually enjoy.
First, you can add lemon ororange juice to your green tea.

(05:19):
Of course, that's what we thinkof when we think of vitamin C.
Right, lemon juice juice, maybelime juice?
Okay, lemon and orange could bereally good when paired with
green tea.
So squeezing only a half cup oflemon, which is about a
tablespoon of lemon juice, intoyour green tea provides enough
vitamin C to stabilize thecatechins that are in the green
tea.
So do not fear adding in justthe right amount, because

(05:44):
studies show that any amount ofextra vitamin C is going to help
you increase your catechinabsorption with green tea.
But here's a pro tip you cancold brew your tea to reduce the
bitterness and preserve evenmore antioxidants.
And that tip makes me think ofone of my favorite drinks, which
is going to be your step numbertwo my daily green smoothie.

(06:05):
It is so cold and refreshingand it's great for the warmer
months, especially Now.
I know I know you've heard it'sbest to chew your food, don't
drink your nutrients, but thetruth is that green smoothies
are incredible for healthIncredible.
So what does this have to dowith matcha?
Well, I'm glad you asked,because strategy number two is,

(06:28):
if you add just one teaspoon ofmatcha powder to your green
smoothie, along with the leafygreens like kale or spinach that
you've packed into thatsmoothie, you'll be providing
your body with a load of theseinflammation, fighting brain
health, boosting fat, fightingpowerhouses, catechins by simply

(06:50):
adding matcha powder to yourgreen smoothies.
Why does this work?
Because, and this may surpriseyou kale and mustard greens have
more vitamin C in them thanoranges and lemons.
So if you add your matcha toyour leafy greens in your
smoothie, you're bumping up theability of that vitamin C to
increase the catechins in yourgreen tea.

(07:12):
So you would hear this tip andthink I want to add citrus.
Vitamin C equals citrus in ourminds, but I want you to wrap
your mind around again the factthat we don't understand what
all nutrients are in our food.
You're eating all these leafygreens.
Hopefully you're eating moreand more the more you listen to
our podcast and understand howhealing they are, and you're
getting those on a regular basis, but do you understand that

(07:32):
when you do that, you're greatlyincreasing your vitamin C load?
That's incredible.
So eat four leafy greens anddon't just think for one
nutrient of one food, becauseGod has placed these incredible
life-giving, disease-reversingnutrients into so many whole
plant foods.
So get a wide variety and eatlots of them.

And this is why we say don't worry about each
individual nutrient, yes,concentrate on just getting a
good, wide variety, because youwill get what you need.
We think oranges are the onlysource of vitamin C, but then it
turns out that the leafy greensfirst have vitamin C Probably
didn't know that and it has morethan the orange that we thought

(08:15):
was the only source of vitaminC.
But if you use your mentalenergy on being sure to get a
wide variety but get it in theabsolute best, most delicious,
fastest way possible, wellthat's enjoyable than worrying
about zinc and vitamin C andthis nutrient and that nutrient.
On and on it goes.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
And you think I don't have time to figure all this
stuff out.
I don't have time to figure outthat Kayla has more vitamin C
than this, and how to eat thisand what I should be eating, and
am I eating it and am I not?
Then you need to be insideaccelerator because it is going
to change your life.
Take it from someone who,several years ago, could not
even walk up one flight ofstairs to tuck my children into
bed at night, would have tearsregularly streaming down my face

in the shower because I couldnot wash my hair.
And I would be in there washingmy hair, crying, thinking

all our time running fromappointment to appointment
trying to figure out what'swrong, with us crying in the
shower, googling our latestsymptoms, like it's no way to

live.
And we get it.
I've been there.
I am so sorry.
I'm giving you a virtual hug ifyou're there, but I want you to
understand you do not have tostay there.
You have someone whounderstands and I want you to go

morning and just squeeze it intoyour green tea.
And if you're a smoothie person, toss a teaspoon of matcha into
your blender with all thoseother amazing green smoothie
ingredients, like a handful ofkale.
Or into your blender with allthose other amazing green
smoothie ingredients, like ahandful of kale or spinach, that
