Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're actually fully
and actively engaged in doing
the things you want to do.
It's like Jared always saysyou're not just living a longer
life, you're now living a fulllife, and that is something
worth celebrating and hassomething worth living out in
front of your family members, because it's not just going to
change your life, it's going tochange your children's life,
your grandchildren's life.
It's going to leave a lastinglegacy for years, decades and
(00:21):
centuries to come.
Hey sister, welcome to thePower on Plants podcast.
Are you tired of staring intothe fridge wondering what to eat
so you can just feel better?
Do you want to avoid spendinghours in the kitchen making
complicated meals in the name ofhealth?
Would you love to leave fatiguebehind and finally have the
energy to do all the things youwant to do?
(00:43):
Hi, we're Jared and AnitaRoussel.
Christ followers, health careprofessionals, parents of four
and big fans of great tastingfood.
We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods,
but we still found ourselvesstruggling with what we thought
were changes that come with ageor bad genes, and we weren't
finding answers the traditionalroute.
So we dug into the research andcreated our secret nutritional
(01:06):
weapon sustainable plant-basedliving.
The truth is, you can eat morewhole plant foods, and it's not
hard.
You just need the way that'srealistic and delicious so you
never feel deprived.
If you're ready to enjoy yourmeals, no longer be held back by
your health struggles andactively live your life, then
you're in the right place.
(01:27):
So grab your favoriteplant-based cup of happy pop in
those earbuds and let's getstarted.
Well, hey there, sunshine.
This is going to be such a funpodcast episode because we're
answering one of your specificquestions about whole food,
plant-based eating, and thequestion we have this week is
what are your tips for peoplewho feel like they need a fake
(01:49):
meat substitute with every meal?
Again, I want to repeat it whatare your tips for people who
feel like they need a fake meatsubstitute with every meal?
Now, when I read this, I thinkof two different scenarios.
The person who submitted thisquestion is either wondering how
to get someone they care about, like a friend, a family member,
a spouse, to stop eating fakemeat substitutes with every meal
(02:11):
and to start finding healthymeat substitutes, because they
know how unhealthy fake meatsubstitutes.
That's scenario number one.
Or scenario number two they'rewondering for themselves how do
(02:31):
I get myself off the fake meatsubstitutes that I'm eating with
every meal, and so this weekwe're dealing with the first
case scenario how do I helpthose I care about, including
friends or family members, escape their daily fake meat
substitutes that are keepingthem stuck in their health
struggles?
The first thing you want to doin this situation is to realize
that your suggestions might bemet with some resistance, even
when you have the bestintentions for the one you care
(02:53):
about.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
When we get excited
about things, people don't
always match us with that samelevel of enthusiasm or
excitement.
They may not have gone througha certain amount of research or
a certain amount of learning toknow exactly what you know, and
maybe they don't have that sameconviction.
I see this all the time withpatients I share with them about
lifestyle, medicine and wholefood, plant-based eating, and
sometimes there's just kind ofthat deer in the headlights Look
(03:16):
where am I going to get myprotein?
But wait, jared, are you takingmy cheeseburgers away from me?
To which I tell them always.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
I am not taking your
cheeseburgers away from you.
That has to be your decision.
What we found is the best wayto help those that you care
about is by sharing what you'reenjoying, living it out in front
of them by example.
So you actually do this byletting them see what are you
eating, what is it like, howlong is it taking you, and then
you also let them see theresults that you're getting,
because it's the seeing and thehearing that often leads them to
tasting and sampling.
(03:51):
These are two of my favoritethings, by the way tasting and
sampling.
Think about it.
I mean, you go into Costco.
What do they do?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Oh, they give tons of
free samples so that you can
see it and taste it, but youalso forgot a very important
sense the smelling.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yes, as it's cooking.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
We've heard numerous
people say oh, they said oh,
that looks good, but that smellsamazing.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
What is?
Speaker 2 (04:12):
that I want to try
that too.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
I seriously talked to
a friend today on the phone who
is making our homemade granolaand she said it smells so good
in here.
So you're right, smell.
And yeah, her spouse wassmelling that too.
He's not completely whole foodplant-based, but that's okay,
because you know what he'ssmelling it and guess what's
going to happen next?
He's going to start coming downthe stairs from his office and
wanting to taste and see forhimself.
This is what Jared and I seehappen time and time again.
So we call this step taste andsee, which is the first step to
(04:41):
them becoming a real believerfor themselves.
So when relatives are near, thebest thing you can do is offer
them samples and, for friendswho don't live with you, make
them special tasty treats whenthey visit.
I have a friend who just theother day was having a
get-together with one of herfriends and she said you know
what?
No-transcript without any oil.
(05:07):
And she's going what is this?
This is so good and we'redipping it in salsa.
And she's like how'd you dothis?
I mean, I saw you stick in themicrowave.
What's in it?
And she told her well, it'scorn and lime and some waters
like three ingredients.
There's no oil.
What?
There's no oil in it.
No, there's no oil in it.
And guess what?
Now my joints don't hurt andthis doesn't hurt and I've
reversed my auto arthritis andall these amazing things that
(05:29):
you can share as the byproductsof what's happened to you since
you started eating whole foodplant-based, and that door opens
up for you to share yourresults when they start tasting
and seeing and smelling, asJared says.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Absolutely.
But I think a key element hereis what you just said a few
moments ago offering You're notforcing them, you're not
guilting them, you're justsimply offering, especially
after they see it.
They smell it and they thinkwow, that actually does smell
amazing.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I want you to think
of this in a really fun way,
like the optimal, fun, grown-upshow and tell.
Remember show and tell when wewere kids.
I would just really think aboutwhat I wanted to take and share
.
So if you know you have aget-together coming coming up or
you know your spouse is goingto be home that night when
you're cooking, think ofsomething you can make that they
would enjoy.
Maybe that you've even triedpreviously that you know is
(06:17):
delicious.
It's going to make the housesmell good Before long.
They're going to ask.
I think of a friend who was inthe car with a full blown veggie
sandwich that she had made withsome of our power on plant
sauces, layered with all thesedelicious vegetables, and her
husband's sitting next to herand she's brought this sandwich
on their outing and I think hehad something else to eat.
But he's smelling hers in thecar.
(06:37):
He's looking over it.
She notices he's looking overat her.
Next thing, you know, he'sasking her for what To take a
bite of her sandwich to try it.
And then guess what he says hey, the next time we come out, can
you make me one of those two?
I mean, it really can be justthat simple.
It's more like when you'repushing it on them, they're not
open.
But when you just offer it, orwhen they see it and they see
(06:58):
the results and the changes inyou, they become hungry for it.
So this is show and tell, notshow and sell.
So by that I mean you realizethat they will only do and stick
with what they actually see thevalue in and they actually want
to do.
So.
If you're trying to sell themon it and they actually do buy,
(07:18):
it most likely won't stickbecause they may just be making
changes in their meat choices toplease you and that's just not
going to work for them long term.
Now, if they're starting tostep into vegan eating from the
standard American diet andthey're eating those fake meats
as a result, celebrate this.
Even if they're currentlyeating the vegan meat subs that
(07:40):
are not the healthiest choices, celebrate it as a win, because
this can be a good transitionfood.
They are actually taking thestep to start to transition by
eating these things when beforethey were eating animal products
.
So I want you to see this as abenefit and a step in the right
direction, knowing that, as youwalk things out before them,
it's probably not going to betheir end point.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Because what we see
time and time again, how people
are just so inundated withmessages of you need animal
based foods for protein that ifthey're willing to do this, then
they're obviously making thatcommitment to say I'm going to
stop eating animal-based foodsaltogether.
But, getting the fake meatsubstitutes.
They still want to enjoy thoseflavors, those textures, that
(08:24):
experience, and they feel likethis may be the only way that
they can do it, because theydon't yet know a better way.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
So you're actually
seeing them live out their
desire to be healthier.
They just may not know.
The step is what you're saying, and I think that's brilliant.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Or this is a baby
step and they're just not all
the way there yet because theydon't know what that all the way
there yet is yet.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Right, but you're
working with us and you're here
on the podcast and you have yourpower on plants cookbooks that
are showing you the way to makethis quick and easy and
delicious, and your mind's blownand you didn't know before it
could be this simple and you'refinding your new favorites and
now they're seeing you do it andthey're smelling and they're
tasting and before long they go.
I can do this too.
I mean, if you can do that, Ican do that.
If you can make a five minutesoup or a five minute alfredo
(09:07):
sauce or five minute dressing, well, I can do that too.
And this tastes amazing what inthe world?
And that's how they'll get real, lasting change.
Also, I want to add take sometime to pray for them that
they're being led by God to bewise and make healthy choices
for their lives.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Being good stewards
of their bodies.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Because we don't
think of it in those terms.
We think stewardship as beinghome, resources, finances,
things of that nature, but ourbodies, this is the temple that
we live in, and we must also begood stewards of that, and that
includes the fuel that we giveour bodies, because we don't
want to just live, we want tolive a long, vibrant, full life
(09:46):
led by Holy Spirit.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Well, our body is
actually a tool that we live
through.
The real us lives inside and welive through.
So we have to take care of thetool, which really is one of the
number one assets God's givenus.
If we don't take care of thattool, then how are we going to
fully live our calling and ourpurpose?
And then, as a general rule, ask for permission before you
share with them.
(10:08):
You could say things like wouldyou like to hear about the
incredible new meat substitute Ifound?
Instead of hey, you need toquit eating that fake meat.
It's really bad for you.
See which one would you rathersomebody approach you with?
Increase their curiosity withstatements like I tried the best
plant-based taco meat the otherday.
I think you'd really like it.
And, of course, in the sharing, always be honest.
When you know the power onplants way to eat whole food
(10:30):
plant-based, I promise you youwill not feel the need to
elevate how great your wholefood plant-based journey is.
You're just going to love it.

diabetes, their high cholesterol, their high blood pressure,
their autoimmune disease likerheumatoid arthritis and IBS,

and like all these things thatkeep happening, things that
(11:53):
people are told on a regularbasis they cannot reverse.

process, this step and that stepand this step, and they start
seeing you healing and theystart seeing you having more
energy and being more involvedin the activities you want to be
, in starting your business, growing your business to the
next level when you couldn'tbefore, because you were so
tired, you weren't productivelike you wanted to be, the ideas
wouldn't flow because you hadbrain fog.
You were spending so much timein the doctor's office and
(13:19):
trying to figure out, byGoogling, what your actual
diagnosis was, when the doctorscouldn't figure it out.
I mean, it's all this crazystuff that you're going through
and spending your time on that.
All those time wasters go awayand now you're actually living
the life you're called to live.
You're actually fully andactively engaged in doing the
things you want to do.
It's like Jared always saysyou're not just living a longer
(13:40):
life, you're now living a fulllife, and that is something
worth celebrating and it'ssomething worth living out in
front of your family members, because it's not just going to
change your life, it's going tochange your children's life,
your grandchildren's life.
It's going to leave a lastinglegacy for years, decades and
centuries to come.
And finally, don't expect themto be exactly where you are if
(14:01):
they do start picking up anddoing the things you do.
If they start listening to thepodcast, it might be just a
little bit before they get theirfirst cookbook and it might be
just a little bit longer beforethey decide hey, I need to come
into the free group podcastinsiders experience which, by
the way, if you haven't joinedus there, you need to be there.
That's your next step, becausethings are about to get going in
there like crazy.
It's going to be amazing.
(14:22):
We have some great thingscoming.
So, right now, get inside atpoweronplantscom, forward slash
p-i-e, poweronplantscom, forwardslash pie.
And then the next step isthey'll get the cookbooks.
And then the next step is they'll be saying to you hey, what's
that course that you wentthrough?
That changed your whole life, that you had the coaches guide
you step by step through whatyou needed to do in just a few
(14:42):
weeks, and it changed your lifeforever.
And you're going to them.
So don't expect them to bewhere you are right now, because
odds are that's not how ithappened for you.
Is it Right?
Encourage them where they are, celebrate each step, that they
take, one replacement at a time, and before long, they're
naturally going to be eatingless and less of the
(15:03):
health-sabotaging foods,including the pre-packaged meats
that are not healthy for thembecause they have a full long
ingredients list of things youcan't pronounce and aren't even
food.
This was such a great question.
If you have a question that youwant us to answer, email that
to us at podcast atpoweronplantscom.
That's podcast atpoweronplantscom because you may
(15:24):
hear your question highlightedon one of our podcast episodes.
So, to recap, if you have afriend or a family member that
you're wondering, what tips doyou give the people in your life
who feel like they need fakemeat substitutes with every
single meal?
First, you're going to realizethat your suggestions might be
met with some resistance, evenwhen you have the best of
(15:47):
intentions for the one you careabout.
Next, you'll remember the bestway to share is through show and
tell, not show and sell.
The next thing you want toemphasize is helping them have
opportunities to taste and seeand then celebrate their wins.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Even if they're
stepping into this vegan whole
food, plant-based way of eatingfrom the standard American diet,
at least they're making acommitment that they're leaving
behind that way of eating thatthey used to love, what they've
been taught that they couldn'tdo without.
That was necessary.
So really they're making amonumental step in the right
direction to improve theirhealth.
So celebrate that, encouragethem.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Also remember to pray
for them to be led by God to be
wise and healthy in the choicesthey make and, as a general
rule, ask for their permissionbefore you share with them,
perhaps even leading with aquestion like would you like to
hear about this incredible newmeat substitute I found?
Or a curiosity-driven statementlike I tried the best taco meat
the other day, alwaysremembering to be honest in what
(16:48):
you share and remember onereplacement at a time and before
long, they'll naturally beeating less of the
health-sabotaging foods and moreof the ones that bring optimal
health, lasting change and along, full life.
Friend, we have loved havingyou hang out with us again today
on Power on Plants.
Remember you're loved, you'reprayed for and we'll see you
(17:10):
again very soon.
Thank you.
