David Lowe (00:00):
What are you
thankful for?
Hi, I'm David Lowe, theAutomotive Sales Coach, and
welcome to today's podcast.
Prepare to Win.
Today's episode is all abouthow our thinking drives our
(00:24):
actions and our actions driveour results, and so we're
talking about the attitude ofgratitude.
I began this episode by askingyou what are you thankful for?
Can I tell you something?
As I study people of excellence, people that pursued being
better today than they wereyesterday, people that have
(00:45):
accomplished great things, Iwant to know how did they do it
right?
What do they have in common?
And we find that thoughts arethings, and the people that
achieve more really think betterthan other people.
Right, they've decided tomaster their mind.
Right, what goes in ourcomputer comes out in our life.
Our brain is our computer, andso thinking positive is one of
(01:08):
the ways to do it.
And this attitude of gratitude, this focus on what I have and
not what I don't have, is a toolor a habit that so many people
I've discovered use right.
I think Michael Strahan was thelast one I read about that said
hey, I start my morning bywriting three things.
I'm thankful, and I can go backhundreds of years.
(01:30):
This habit has going on.
I do it in my life.
I don't know where it came fromProbably my mom, like most of
the good things in my life andI've fed this habit and I've
reinforced this habit through myown personal searching and
study, right.
So here's the habit and I wantto get to a little background on
why it's so important.
So the habit is sitting down inthe morning and maybe making a
(01:53):
list.
I'm thankful for this.
I'm thankful for that.
Now, it's so easy to go to yourspouse or your family and your
health and your job, right, andwe should be thankful for those
things.
We don't want to take thosethings for granted, and there's
so many things in America thatwe're thankful for that.
Other parts of the world, Imean, we take it for granted.
(02:15):
Other parts of the world, don't?
Right?
I was watching a show and itwas in France I think it was
Paris and this person was found.
This great apartment in Paris.
It was a great luxury apartmentand the kicker was it also had
good water pressure.
(02:36):
Right, they were making a bigdeal that this luxury apartment
also has great water pressure.
Now, I've really never thoughtabout it at my house.
Don't we take for granted thatour water pressure should be
good.
A lot of the world doesn't havesome of the basic niceties that
we take for granted.
Would it hurt you to bethankful for it?
(02:57):
No, it doesn't hurt me.
I know focusing on gratitudeempowers me, so let's talk about
that.
So focusing on gratitude ispart of Think Positive, right,
and here's a book that I, likeyou know I always say you put
positive things in, positivethings come out right, and so
this episode what Are youThankful For is really about the
(03:19):
power of positive thinking, andthe attitude of gratitude is
positive thinking.
You're intentionally feedingyour mind with something that
strengthens you.
So many people stranglethemselves with poor thoughts.
They think about what's wrongand not what's right.
(03:39):
Every day, maybe every hour, they reinforce who they're not
and what they don't have, instead of reinforcing the
opportunities and who they are, what they do have right.
So I like to constantly feed mymind.
You guys know that I've read.
If you've done any of ourtraining on the dealership
(04:00):
playbook, if you've been to ourmost sales coaches live, some of
you know that a lot of what wetalk about is not just selling
with excellence, but it's likeliving with excellence, and you
can't do either really withouthaving an excellent mindset or
an excellent attitude.
You're thinking right.
That's what we call yourthinking, your mindset, and we
know that our mindset, ourthinking, is always being
(04:22):
programmed right.
It's being programmed by well, our experience right.
What happens to us isprogramming it.
Our environment, people aroundus are programming, of course,
our education, and so we knowwe're being programmed.
I like to say let's go aheadand program ourself with the
thinking we want.
Why not control what's going inour computer, right?
(04:43):
Our brain is a super complexcomputer and garbage in, garbage
out that means great stuff in,great stuff out.
So I pick up stuff like this.
This is I don't know when thiswas published.
I don't know, maybe 20 yearsago, maybe not that long.
15 years ago it was a seriesChicken Soup for the Soul.
This happens to be the ThinkPositive, I guess, version of it
(05:07):
.
I don't know.
I think that my mom pickedthese up at a garage sale or
something to start out with howI got reading them.
That's how that stuff happens.
There's 101 inspirationalstories.
These are really good.
If you read one of these a day,you will really be grateful.
It's so easy to take all theblessings in your life for
(05:29):
granted, and these stories willreally remind you of the good
things in your life.
But anyway, I want to read thisforeword by Deborah Norville.
She worked in the news for along time and she says this
change your thoughts and youchange your world.
(05:49):
Now Norman Vincent Peale saidthat in one of his books and
here she's talking about.
I can't remember how long it'sbeen since I first heard these
words change your thoughts andyou change your world.
And she says it's so positive,it's packed with power and it's
kind of been her lifelong mantrathat she uses and she goes to
(06:10):
whenever things aren't goingwell.
She will immediately train hermind to think about what is
right, the opportunity right.
This power of the subconsciousmind at work.
It's constantly beingprogrammed and when our natural
instinct to go negative, she'ssaying remind yourself this if I
(06:30):
change my thoughts right now, Ican change my world.
In other words, I can impactthe people and the opportunities
around me based on my mindset.
If my mindset is wrong or weakor negative, will that not
affect the people around me?
We talked about that heartcoherence, the new science
(06:54):
that's showing that our heartputs off something that can be
felt three meters away sometimes.
In other words.
People know how you feel inside.
Now your words sometimes aremeaningless.
They feel the attitude you saythem with.
Our attitudes are contagious, and if we're negative we'll have
a negative attitude, and thatwill be contagious too.
(07:16):
Right, but she went on to talkabout some of the power of this.
There's the scientific researchof people who can recall
positive events have been provento be more resilient, even in
the most difficult situations.
People who keep track of thegood things in their lives are
healthier, more active, moreproductive and held in higher
(07:36):
regard by those around them.
What's more, people who areaware to accentuate the positive
are smarter, better able tomake cognitive associations and
connect.
They solve problems faster andmore correctly.
Kids who summon up positivememories do better on tests.
(07:57):
Well, I don't have to take youthrough.
If you're interested in theproof of what I have to say,
there's plenty written about it.
Spend a little time on Googleand it'll prove it to you.
Scientific fact that whateveryou put in your computer, the
programming determines whatcomes out right.
Scientific fact whatever youput in your computer, the
programming determines whatcomes out right.
Scientific fact whatever youput in your brain is going to
(08:20):
come out in your life right.
What consumes your mindcontrols your life.
Creed said that in one of theirsongs, and it's so true.
Solomon says as a man thinkethin his heart, so they are right,
and thoughts are things.
Think and grow rich thoughts.
Just go back and do theresearch for yourself.
(08:43):
If you're as convinced that Iam, that what I'm thankful for
my mindset will really impactthe quality of my life, then
you'll do something about it.
I do Every single day.
I want this habit of focusing onwhat's right and when things
turn hey, listen, things happen.
(09:03):
None of us are perfect.
We make mistakes and thingshappen to us even when we don't
mistake.
Good things happen to badpeople.
How do we do it?
I really believe we have toremember the power of positive
thinking, and I think today'sepisode I want to sum up for you
was all about how do youharness the power of positive
(09:24):
thinking.
I think we all know it'simportant and I think reading
positive material, hanging outwith positive people these are
all good things, and I think oneof the most impactful things
you can do not I think I knowbecause I've been doing it
writing down the act of writingdown the things you're thankful
for and meditating or prayingover those daily, will greatly
(09:48):
impact your attitude.
Okay, so here's the questionfor you.
We know attitudes arecontagious.
True, is the attitude you'recarrying today, right now, the
attitude you want yourco-workers to have, your kids or
your spouse to have right, andthat's really the gauge, isn't?
It?
Is my attitude, the attitude Iwant, rubbing off on those
(10:12):
around me?
If it's not, take the hemp.
Start writing three thingsyou're thankful for.
I'm going to tell you, if you dothis 21 days in a row, it will
become a habit.
They say doing something 21days in a row it doesn't make it
automatic.
It just means you're morelikely to continue doing it.
There's more research that saysif you take that habit for 21
(10:36):
days, you start it.
I want to do this, I want to dothis, I think about it every
day.
It comes easier, but I just doit for 21 days.
If I want to make it alifestyle, I need to continue 90
days more.
So I take the 21 and I add the90, that's 111 days.
They say whatever you do overand over and over will become a
(10:58):
habit and a lifestyle.
That doesn't make it automatic, but it makes it something that
you count on every day.
And since this is a good thing, why not start working on that
habit today?
All right, thank you so muchfor joining us for today's
episode.
What are you thankful for?
Right, the power of positivethinking.
(11:18):
What your mind can conceive andbelieve, you can achieve.
And so if you want this habit, you can have it.
Good selling.
